The twisted knee, physical therapy now 🙏
@@williamkayaian7268 Verbs now.
@@williamkayaian7268 Same!! I tore a ligament doing a 'squat with a twist'.
Brilliant. Dont accept that stiffness is becaus youre getting older. Exactly. Everyone gets older, but we can slow down ageing. Love this channel. A treasure trove of information ❤
I just found you “accidentally’ yesterday. I’m 68 and learning so much! By God’s grace I’m very fit and healthy, but you’re teaching me things I never heard before. My husband continually “chides” me for taking the stairs too often. lol. Now I have good reason to keep doing it. Thanks again.
What is a “niggle”?😆 I ignored a knee injury after bodyboarding for two years. I kept hiking and mountain biking, but did no rehab. After hiking one day, my knee “blew up”. That sent me down a path that really drug me down mentally. I’m an active energetics 68-year-old woman and never focused on aging. Going to the doctor and finding out I not only have meniscus tears amongst other injuries but also osteoarthritis. Thank you for addressing this in a positive light. Truthfully, I didn’t go to the doctor because I did not want to hear “it’s something to expect as you age“.🤦♀️ I am working with a sports doctor and sports PT. I’ve made great progress! My goal is to get back to hiking and mountain biking not so sure about bodyboarding..🥴 thanks again for your upbeat, positive outlook on aging well!💜
Niggle= persistent annoyance
Slightly unrelated, but perhaps not, do you have thoughts that you would be willing to post about on "barefoot shoes" or just shoes in general and how they relate to all sorts of bodily issues? (I am getting so much benefit from your videos!)
Hi will do you have a Clinic in London please
Hi I have acute meniscus injury. After several weeks I went barefoot (actually thick slipper socks with slip pads on the sole and I have to say it stopped a lot of clicking as I could walk naturally around the house. I googled and could find nothing on line about it. Another good easy thing was using a cushion under or between legs to sleep.
Thank you for such good advice.
@@trace-markmy husband had a torn meniscus some years ago and was told by GP that he would have to have an operation. He saw the surgeon who also said an.operation with general anaesthetic would be necessary. The idea of the general anaesthetic put him off so he asked a physiotherapist that he has a lot of respect for for a second opinion but the physio agreed with the surgeon's advice. My husband decided to strengthen the muscles around the meniscus with the result that he was able to cancel the surgery altogether! 😊 All the best.
Have learned the hard way that high arches need suppprt or you can break your foot just by walking ! Now wearing fresh foam 1080s for like a year to prevent rebreak of the fifth metatarsal diasphyeal - fun, fun - always thought high arches were cool:)
Good tips. About twisting, I got a meniscus tear (degenerative) and didn't have to be told that I had to change my posture when exiting the car since that's a very common twist we make and can sometimes over-twist when we're in a hurry. And if my knee is bothering me, I'll turn and put both feet on the ground (I don't have an SUV here in USA). I subscribe to another excellent PT channel, El Paso Manual Physical Therapy who gave some great advice about gluts. He suggested clenching your gluts as you walk and in time it will not be awkward and can become second nature. I followed that advice and have observed their growth and hope it's taking stress off my meniscus. I'm a new subscriber and look forward to viewing many of your informative videos.
Thank you Will - you are a wonderful breath of fresh air and give us instruction to a better body (regardless of age!) ❤

Greetings from Singapore! Good information. Thank you, Will.
Brilliant video thank you! I am 54 and ten weeks into physio for a possible meniscus tear. Finding your info and exercises to strengthen knees and stretch muscles so helpful.
This info makes lot of sense thank you
Hi! Just recently subscribed to your channel. I have a physical therapist and what you discussed in this episode. is very useful to me. It reinforces and reaffirms what she tells me to do for my lower back pain and how it affects as well the pain in my left knee. I saw another episode before this and I immediately subscribed. I am a retired university professor and during my teaching days, I used to climb stairs (3-4 flights of stairs) a lot, going from one building to another to get to my classes. I am 66 y/o and fortunately for me, I live in a 2-story house. And I am able to maintain a good BMI as well.
Thanks so much!
Thankyou for such great info, your channel is the best!❤
You constantly are a blessing...
Thank you Mr Harlow for this so very helpful advice!!!😊
Great video. Thanks 😊
This video is a god send. Over a week ago, pulled an upper calves. Since then, my knees and hips have been unhappy. I over did it. I do take stairs all the time - my apartment complex.. I love to walk and had to walk way less. It is gradually getting better. Starting to do my PT therapy exercises (hip) again. Your book should arrive today. Thank you so much for writing a book for us geezers.
Thank you Hats off to you. God bless you with more knowledge. Love you.
The “fear” of stairs is not because we are (already) in our 50’s. The fear is if we get to our late 70’s/80’s. As usual, great video!
Sir,
You are a very good teacher/instructor. The only thing I would have liked is for you to show or demonstrate the bad moves for a knee. For example, the first one, you said planting the foot and then twisting the knee--not sure I am remembering or was understanding it correctly--which is why I would have liked you to show us what is the wrong way to do something. “Thank You!”🏈🌲🦌☃️
Oh! Thank You!
Hi Will. Thanks for giving simple, easy to follw instructions, I am adopting your two-pronged approach, and im taking Curcumin . Boron and Omega 3 as advised. Already i notice a significant ease of movement without pain.
Brilliant video, thank you
Brabo sir. Thank you for all the details of instruction I hope to see a difference doing the exercises
Thanks for the info. It makes sense. Going to try all the advice and ordering book off Amazon.
Great advice... Thank you..
You’re following excellent teaching protocols. Thank you for very handy information.
Just found you're channel. Im 68 and go to the gym regularly plus have a good diet with protein. Ive been trained to do weights by a personal trainer and am aware of doing these excercises correctly. I suffer with osteoarthritis but recently noticed a stiffness in certain parts of my body..just thought it was my age. Thanks so much for you're clear and simple advice. Ive started doing the stetches recommended and seen a big improvement.
Excellent advice!
Thanks Will!
Thank You.
Great tips Will. 👍

Even my looks!!I am a crazy gardening lover, and my big garden is also my ....fitness space! Colourful and happy! I also practice swimming! And healthy eating without extremes. Thank you so much dear young friend ,....professional, AND ...author!!!❤❤❤👍😊
I love the way you explain things so clearly, so that I can exercise safely and efficiently at age seventy eight! Thank you. Will get your book!
Thanks Mr will Harlow for the best presentation so knowledgeable God bless you sharing your wealth of knowledge 🙏 professionally,,,Lucy watching from Australia
This is great! Had to move upstairs during a house renovation and it was the best thing for me to have to use the stairs.
Thanks so much Dr. I have been doing all exercises for knee pain and stretches for 8 weeks and knee pain is gone. Thanks so much for your help.
As always, superb
Lucy helping me through this now so useful to learn the 7 no nos for the future
I truly find all your youtube videos very benficial and love the detailed explanations. I use a lot of your expert advice and techniques to teach at my Chair yoga class which has a various range of ages and mobility. We also work out during standing poses. Thank you and Bless you!!
Hi Will love this video. You managed to explain very clearly the problem and why it happened. Thank you for taking the time to explain and show us so many strategies. Ive been using them and I find that I am starting to understand the process and by understanding I can avoid doing things that might damage my joints and my knees. I was beginning to accept the loss of function of my knees and the stiffness but I do not have major knee damage. So I can do something about it. Thank you again.
Thank you❤️ love your videos
Thank God for your wisdom and advice
excellant presentation I am a doctor and have seen lots of knee problem and wish my patients would take note.
Wish I had all your wonderful tips 6 decades ago:) Fantastic!!
❤️ Thanks again.
I have bought your book and watch your videos.Thank you. Jacqueline
I have been having issues with my knee. I found your videos and exercise very helpful. I just started I already feel better. My knee is not quiet as tight and panful. All i wanted to say is thank you
Thank you!! Great information 12:25
Fantastic
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Just ordered your book-sorting a meniscus problem 😃
Lot of good and helpful information here. I have some oa in both knees, one in particular. I can go up stairs easily, but have cut back, because I think it contributes to wearing the cartilage down. For, example, I used to walk up the 6 flights of stairs to my apartment, but stopped a couple of years ago, even though I am still physically capable of it. Wonder if you agree.
Chair yoga saved my life!…and your videos have made my everyday functional activities a breeze to accomplish…65 years young.. I walk younger than most 40 yearolds I see..
Would appreciate a video regarding your recommendations regarding shoe choices for over 50.
Could you please tell how to remove the stiffness from quads and calves? Thanks
Nice video Will. Can you pleasemake a video on correct form for doing squats? 🙏🏼
Thank you for this video. At 71, there are a lot of trails I want to through-hike, not the least of which is the John Muir Trail. With the insights I am gaining from you, I may have an outside chance.
Too late for me, because I did the damage decades ago---kneeling and twisting. I often knelt on carpeting at work installing exhibits. I wore soft knee-pads but that just locked my knee to the floor while I twisted to pick up tools, paint brush, etc. I should have worn hard-shell knee-pads so my knee could have slid a bit and let the lower leg turn in tandem with the upper, or I should have done work-arounds to avoid kneeling. Needless to say I had a torn meniscus long ago and it is prone to tearing again. Still doing PT and trying to learn more.
You are The Will that shows us the way in maintaining our body so safely we play!
👍🏾cute play on words😊but you're right, Will is the way - to strength and good health 🌹
I like your explanation, easy for layman to understand❤
That's great to hear thank you!
Hi Will,
Thanks for another great video. Can you demonstrate what we should do as an alternative, pls.? For example, streches for a tight calf or demonstrate putting your legs through a range of motion? Tysm!!! God bless you.
Do you have a set of exercises to overcome stiffness around knee? I feel as if there’s a lot of fluid accumulated around my knee first thing in morning, gradually it gets better, I do yoga too ,
I would really appreciate a set of exercises, Idid have medial meniscus tear few years ago & perhaps I ignored the problem & did not work on muscles!your videos have been very helpful, thank you 😊
Hi Will. Great video thanks - lots of useful info. I've a question: Does kneeling down (with good knee pads) damage your knees or put undue pressure on the meniscus?
❤Thank you for the information. I'll be sure to continue to use stairs 😅
Could you please do an episode on Baker’s Cyst? Thank you.
Thank you for this video. I would love a video about shoes also.
Being a 59 year old "boy" who still thinks he can do al kinds of craziness I lifted a big tree trunk last year. I felt the pressure building up in my knees and thought that trunk should not have been heavier.
Next morning I tried to get down on my knees for something.., left knee said NO, I'm not going to bent that far. Took me a year to recover... still sore sometimes but still improving.
Excellent Tips dear Will. Though an Athlete, had lost track of some leg excs., being 77 yrs of age. Stairs - I know only it’s spelling - ain’t used them for Ages , coz of the use of Lifts. I ain’t a Lazy Bone , exercise daily , but not all what you showed . Thnx, will pick up those tips .
This information is gold, huge thanks again, but was there a reason you chose to focus on your upper body when the whole thing was about the knee. Visually demonstrating the causes and better use would have reinforced for me your words of wisdom.
Great information. Thank you! A quick question: I have bone on bone arthritis that I manage with physical therapy exercises. Can I still use stairs?
WOW~ you just answered my question about stairs, thanks so much! I have a manual stair stepper at home, & have always taken the stairs when possible out in public. Recently I've developed severe knee pain at night, after relaxing all those muscles in bed by that crazy thing called SLEEPING, errgghh! It's now waking me up 3-5 times every night, & truly beginning to affect my quality of life. I've begun to research various exercises I can incorporate to strengthen quads/glutes/hams, & I already walk 2-3 miles a day & strength train w/weights 3-5 x's a wk.
I was starting to worry that the stairs may be contributing to the knee pain at night, so I'm glad to hear I can keep on w/it. I don't do squats really, so I'm wondering if maybe I should start. Typically use the machines at the gym for glutes/legs/hip exercises, & have recently incorporated Fred Hahn's "slow burn method" to help minimize injury as I get older~58 yr old female btw.
Thanks again for your time & effort in addressing these knee issues, I'm grateful. Knees are about the only part of my body that I've never specifically injured or had any problems with at all until this past year. Super frustrating, to say the least. ~Sam in NV
At last, some very realistic exercise for us "over-fifties". Thank you.
Hu, this video was very informative. I would love to learn some exercises for glutes and calves..
Yoga.
At 65 years old I generally try to use stairs where I can. Please can you tell me, is it beneficial to climb 2 at a time say in the home? I read somewhere it was much better for you but would value your opinion. Thank you so much for taking the time to look after us oldies! X
Interesting that you mentioned planting one's foot and/or twisting it. I'm an avid 10-pin bowler for several years, and am constantly working to improve my physical game, even in my late 60's. The bowling instruction videos all stress the advantage of sliding towards the foul line vs. planting. One of the certified coaches said planting your foot puts 2,000 pounds of pressure on our joints. That was eye-opening! I noticed that when I do slide, sometimes my left foot will turn parallel to the foul line. Working to remedy that.
what can I do to prevent or correct tightness in quads?
What are your thoughts on the different knee braces?
Hi Will what do you think about lipogem procedure? does it help ? Tx
Thank you! I’m getting your book! I’ve not lived in a multi level place since I was a child and have only lived where the land is flat lol! (This is common at least in the U.S.) Ideally people exercise beyond just living like gardening and household chores or minimal physical duties at work. If you don’t use it you lose it.
I have your book and am using it to help with my left sacroiliac pain in conjunction with a PT I’m seeing here in Houston,TX. It’s a great book and I also like your videos. Thank you so much!
Thanks be to God for Will Harlow video! It's not too early or late to avoid these 7 things that has damaged my knees!
My appreciation for those who have appreciation for doing the right things!
