I was diagnosed with hip arthritis for years. I was given cortisone shots, physical therapy, massage, etc. My hips did not show improvement. I had X-rays done, early on, but none done for follow up. It finally got to the point that I needed a cane. I just could not find relief. My PT said I lacked the motivation to get better. I moved back to my hometown and returned to my old doctor. First thing he do was order new X-rays. It showed that my hips were bone-on-bone, all the cartilage was gone. My hips were never going to get better. He immediately sent me to an orthopedic surgeon and I had both hips replaced within one year. It was a life changer. It’s been 2 years and I am pain free. I’m back to walking and jogging and I have lost 20 lbs. PT was absolutely necessary after my surgery and success depends on how hard you were willing to work. But please see a doctor if your pain keeps getting worse, despite how hard you try to improve.
My hip pain was also due to bone on bone issues. I was born without cartilage in most of my joints but getting doctors to believe that isn’t easy. When they finally take X-rays and MRIs they get it. My replacement was a miracle also, wish I hadn’t waited so long.
I didn't realize how bead my hip was and I tried exercise but no amount of exercise would help in my condition. I don't know why it was such a mystery to the PT and surgeon that I needed a hip replacement based on my x ray. I switched doctors and had a successful hip replacement. Don't suffer like I did. I have a high pain tolerance, I thought I was sitting in the wrong chair, walking on pavement too much, had a leg length discrepency, an impingement, etc. Initially, I thought it was my back, so I went into the back surgeon (he did a successful discectoomy and laminectomy on me 1 year earlier) and I said "I feel like my leg is broken!" He said it's your hip so I did the PT For 6 weeks, then an MRI They put me on crutches after the MRI. They thought my bones were fractured. This was not the case. After my hip replacement my surgeon said I have great bones. What a saga. Listen to your gut!
I understand the frustration. A neurologist told us my mom was not motivated and prescribed an antidepressant. We then saw her internist and she was having surgery for a bilateral subdural hematoma a few days later. I relayed the information to the neurologist's office-they wanted to know if she was still taking the antidepressant!
I have been complaining about hip pain for months. Doc gave me an exercise sheet. We do a lot of them in my yoga and strength stretch and balance classes. But I am so excited to try pillow placement between knees or under legs. In one night the pain completely resolved while in bed. A miracle! I am a nurse. I always used pillow placement to help people get comfortable. Now practicing what I preached. Thank you!
Thanks so much guys. I was just diagnosed with hip osteoarthritis 2 weeks ago (77 yrs). The 2 tips (raising arm when walking and the tip toe technique) were like magic !! My hip feels so much better but I had my wife in stitches as I walked around our condo . Love the channel.

I have severe hip pain in both hips. I was told that I have arthritis in the back and hips. I have been able to get the pain in my back to go away but my hips kill me every morning when I get up the pain is there all day long. I have been doing exercises and walking but it doesn’t seem to be helping long-term at all. Is it possible that it is not arthritis causing pain as it is in both hips equally. Further to this, I am also undergoing. tests for serious long-term extreme constipation. I thought it had gotten better when I discontinued pre-Gabalin but not so is there other conditions that could be causing the pain in both hips please respond I am beyond desperate and have been to see Physio and medical doctors.

Once I seriously decided to remove gluten from my diet, my severe pain / inflammation finally subsided. Oatmeal was a big culprit for me, so I now eat gluten free oatmeal. Between exercise and a gluten free diet, I'm confident that my arthritis, isn't going to progress. Give it a try for 3 months to see if it helps.

Oatmeal doesn’t have gluten. It’s not wheat. Many people find they can eat whole grain, preferably freshly milled flour. Regular white flour is basically gluten and starch. No nutrients.
@@sr.marycatharineperry547 Oats without a gluten-free label are not considered safe for those who have celiac disease or gluten intolerance. I know my body and if I eat regular oats, within two days, the inflammation, in my hips returns.
I cannot express how much I appreciate what you are saying and recommending! 🙏 The doctors are always happy to do hip joint replacements and it is probably a low risk surgery - but we may not need it!! We need to strengthen the muscles to support the joints and try to avoid unnecessary strain. A different diet can help enormously with arthritis.
Double hip surgery was my saviour. I was on crutches before the second operation. Was even considering a wheel chair. Now i can walk my dogs comfortably. The first one is not perfect as a little out of alignment but a thousand times better than it was.

I'm 74 and have had arthritis for 4 years (though I'll have to admit, the pain from my broken femur and hip from two years ago makes it difficult for me to distinguish which hurts the most 😊). I've always been health conscious but the "8 glasses of water a day" thing always made me think: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know." I can tell you, IT IS IMPORTANT--especially because the pollution in the air contains powerful desiccants. If you're home is dry, the air is dry, or your skin seems unnaturally dry or your eyesight is wonky, it could very well be the disiccants absorbing moisture from the air. I was having trouble focusing on distant objects--it started 6 months ago. I finally started drkinking eight glasses of water a day: my eye issues cleared up, my skin is smoother and more firm, and I just feel better all around. If you live in a naturally dry area (I live in SW Utah) drink lots of water (but check with your doctor if you have kidney issues), and use a humidifier. I can't emphasize the power of water enough (I drink purified water only; fortunately, my town doesn't fluoridate our water.)
I’m in my 30’s and I have had hip pains for years due to a fall when I landed on my hip when I was younger. It’s been almost 2 decades and every couple of years it gets worse. I had xray don of may hips. It showed no arthritis but my ligaments are inflamed. I take imune suppressant drugs for my kidney transplant. Some of your hip exercises truly help me a lot. Thank you so much and God bless.
My first hint of hip arthritis was knee pain. After months of having to stop during a short walk and bend over in pain, I saw a doctor who shot X-rays of knee and hip. No hip joint cartilage left - I was going to need surgery. I went to physical Rx and some other stuff. I had both hips replaced the second six months after the first. 5) Walk sideways 6) Reach arm up on painful side while walking 7) Use cane opposite to painful side 8) Massage the muscles around the hip 9) Anterior femoral glide syndrome - put belt, anchored on stable object, high on thigh and lunge forward 10) Walk with bent knee and flat foot rather than heel strike 11) All fours, on elbows, raise bent leg through mid-range The last three are most important
Thanks. I really needed this video. I have a lot of pain in my right hip and more focused than ever to see if I can resolve it without a replacement. Lost 22 pounds so far with keto so a huge reduction in sugar. This has helped the pain as I am not taking NSAIDS. Looking to lose more weight... at least another 35 lbs. These exercises are the next step.
Curvy women (big hip and narrow waist) have the added issue when laying on their side. Using a pillow under the waist will help prevent back pain from the spine bending.
I'm curvy. My method to reduce pressure on my hips while sleeping is the cut the middle section out of a mattress topper. The upper section still supports head to waist then the lower section supports thigh to feet. It has helped tremendously.
My concern in these situation is, if we avoid surgery with good pt at age 70, but later end up having to get that surgery at 80, that surgery and the anesthesia will be significantly more difficult to recover from. It seems to me that past age 65, if we see surgery coming at us in our future, getting it done sooner rather than later might be a good idea. Of course we need to keep in mind longevity of surgical interventions and how many years before a revision might be needed.
I am 73 and have been doing advanced YOGA for 24 years now. This is the very best PT for ALL your joints. Solve rotator cuff & sciatic pain issues and increase CORE strength. ❤❤. Start Restorative Yoga or Pilates ASAP. Women in tights LOL ❤❤
Yoga, yes! So many of these stretches and exercises for this or that joint problem are beginner versions of yoga positions. Though I suspect that many people are not fit enough, too overweight, or don't have sufficient balance or mobility to do even the very easiest yoga routine 😢
I had a long time yoga instructor come into my shop recently and she said, “I had to stop. A secret yoga instructor’s refuse to acknowledge? They’re having significant joint and hip issues due to so much movement and they are having to stop.” I forget her wording exactly, but I was 😮. So, moderation in everything is key.
Hip replacement surgery is considered necessary when the hip joint is so damaged or worn that mobility is severely reduced or there is pain even while the patient is resting. Hip replacement surgery is only offered when other less intensive treatments are not beneficial for improving mobility or reducing pain. I am a double replacement recipient and it’s like a miracle cure. Too bad you lose years of your life in pain waiting for the diagnosis, referral, and specialist consultation before surgery.
I just did a few reps of each exercise as you did them and my hip pain has decreased by 60% in a matter of minutes 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 The last 3 for the glute work, 3 reps and fatigue/burning was felt which tells me I need A LOT of work in that area. Thank you for the awesome videos that help thousands. Have a great holiday season with your loved ones. 😊
BUILDING UP THE MUSCLES AROUND THE HIP JOINT DOESN’T REGROW THE CARTILAGE that keeps bone from grating on bone and firing the pain fibers intended to prevent further wear/tear. It actually serves to pull the leg bone into the hip socket more securely. Get the surgery if you have insurance. Get Medicaid if you don’t.
Musculature supports the joints so the joint doesn't take all the loading. Of course, once you're far enough gone surgery is appropriate, but after it you are going to get PT and need to build the muscle back up. The more muscle you have before surgery the easier it will be to recover.
I have it hip Arthritis but don't really feel it. What I feel is my left muscles/tendons and Lt QL muscle. I have fibromyalgia and I'm assuming why it's always acting up. I stretch it, massage it and it won't let up. I love your videos.
@@Mustachio63 I can''t other than it's a potent anti inflammatory that specifically works for my hip pain. When I skip a dose or two, I have significant pain.
Merry Christmas, thank you! Make a magnesium oil 50-50 magnesium flakes and boiling water, stir to dissolve. Once cooled, Gently massage into the muscles of your bum, hip leg. This helps my muscles heal and calm down . Thank you!
glute exercises? Is this helpful for someone having hip joint pain? Eventually both my hip's became painful from wearing away the cartilage cushion around the hip ball socket. X-rays showed "bone on bone". You can't exercise that back, or improve by walking differently. Time for joint replacement. It works. Pain free since 2006, and subsequent hip Left side 2017. Your advice with exception- cushion at knees when side sleeping is helpful, but not a permanent solution.
If you have bone on bone hip arthritis get it replaced pt will not work in the long run.I had bone on bone and I put it off to long to the point my ball and socket was on the verge of collapsing.Had both of mine replaced two years ago and I should have done it sooner
Remarkedly at 79 after a fall my hip pain healed itself. The hip joint constructed hardened nodules which rebuild the joint. I saw an x ray of it taken by the surgeon so she decided to try and break these nodules so I would have an extensive operation with rods in the pelvis and hip replacement. The power had gone off at night and I lost my balance in the dark. But the osteo surgeon yanked my leg so hard I now have constant hip pain which I never had before but has slowly gotten better. I advise people to stay away from all health care providers. A keto diet did not help me either and lost only 3 kg. My hip now is regenerating to a point where very soon I will not feel any pain on waking and can walk without pain. People whose ancestors lived in the Alps or the Panjshir Valley tend to have this miracle cure to a greater degree.
Tell me about the shoes you two are wearing. I wear HOKA Bondis all the time for support. Your shoes look like they don’t have much support but look comfortable
I really need an exoskeleton device I'm just falling apart and that's just the way it is I watch your channel you have great information and I apply it whenever I can😊 part of the catch is you have to keep your psyche in good shape you definitely have to have an upbeat attitude it helps a lot more than a lot of people may think
Do NOT use a massage gun on the bone part of your hips, even if it feels good. It causes a lot of friction between the ball and socket, which are already screwed up.
Hi guys thanks for this. I was lifting some heavy boxes and really messed up my back. It was much more than Spasms. I'm going to get a regular X-Ray soon. I don't know what's wrong and understand that back problems seem to get misdiagnosed often. Are these general exercises that are good for just about anyone with problems? ALSO Im in my rocker Lounge chair often with my legs up. Is there a correct position in this chair to reduce pain? Unfortunately it doesn't recline backwards very well.
Thanks guys! I recently had PT for this and learned some of the same exercises and stretches you show here. They have helped a lot. I also have a set of warm-up exercises for karate that I learned long ago and they help to move my left hip socket back into its best place. My hip flexor gets so stiff sometimes that the pain is worst in the knee insertion. I have learned to massage that a bit before doing the hang stretch. Great info! Thanks again.👍
Just get rid of sugar and anything that breaks down into sugar. I had terrible arthritis in my feet. Quit eating any sugar and grains and I was out walking again. You’ll probably lose weight too.
MAYBE. I had knee pain initially and hip pain that didn’t respond to pillows, elevation, PT or medication. I was in pain for eight months while putting off the first replacement. If the doctor had asked if I wanted both done at once, I would’ve screamed yes. The second was done six months after the first. I was back on the tennis court three weeks after that. Three years on, I’m pain free.
Ask your doctor to check your TS (iron saturation). It is very common for anybody with your ancestry to have an iron overload issue that causes numb and tingling in the toes
1) Sleep with a pillow between your knees 2) Move your hips more frequently 3) Drink more water to keep your cartilage healthy 4) Stretch your thighs, one at a time
Guys, I took some graveyard shift, I sleep 6.5 hrs a day and sleep in a van, 35 years old and I´m having back problems, are there any like mods that I can do to my body, maybe replace my spine with some titanium robotic one or something? I hate having a body
Get a better mattress.Though 35 is young, you can't keep being rough on your body. Get an indoor living situation. Your back can improve. Your body can heal itself but you have to take better care of yourself. Don't hate your body. God gave it to you to experience this life and to love Him!
My arthritis didn't happen naturally. I was struck by a car doing 35. My hip arthritis is a result of damage. My doctor thinks I should be able to dance. I keep moving my legs and hips, and working on losing weight. The pain is nonstop and I'm allergic to pain killer meds. I had my accident at 27 - I'm 56 now. I've been dealing with pain all these years now. Not looking for even more pain. I'll use some of these techniques, but I don't see myself running any races soon... LOL
sleeping on my lazy boy actually feels better than on a bed..and with massage mode w heat i seldom need melatonin and i will use my cane for self defense..i just wish it was a cattle prod.

6) Reach arm up on painful side while walking
7) Use cane opposite to painful side
8) Massage the muscles around the hip
9) Anterior femoral glide syndrome - put belt, anchored on stable object, high on thigh and lunge forward
10) Walk with bent knee and flat foot rather than heel strike
11) All fours, on elbows, raise bent leg through mid-range
The last three are most important
Thanks
I recommend looking for videos specific to hip opening stretches. These make my body feel "looser".
I appreciate you guys doing a modified version for us people who can't kneel anymore!
Curvy women (big hip and narrow waist) have the added issue when laying on their side. Using a pillow under the waist will help prevent back pain from the spine bending.
I love a 4" memory foam topper for my hips/butt to sink into the bed. It keeps my spine straighter.
I'm curvy. My method to reduce pressure on my hips while sleeping is the cut the middle section out of a mattress topper. The upper section still supports head to waist then the lower section supports thigh to feet. It has helped tremendously.
That's clever!@@Linda-zf8vs
Your videos are the best on UA-cam. Thank you!
Excellent exercises and tips. Thank you so much!!!
In our opinion too! Thanks. I could use this sort of information for my arthritic old horses too!
Glad it was helpful!
@ Yep. Use It or Lose It. I miss the big inversions.
@@olk3There is always a yoga level for all i.e. chair yoga, etc…. Anyone can do yoga and benefit.
Yay! So good to see yall again! Merry Christmas
adding the cain was a great idea.
Great information. Thanks!
Awesome suggestions…..thank you so much
Hip replacement surgery is considered necessary when the hip joint is so damaged or worn that mobility is severely reduced or there is pain even while the patient is resting.
Thank you! Happy Holidays!
Another Awesome video.!!💯💯💯💯🥰
Thank you for these great solutions! 😊❤😊
Thank you
Mike is awesome.
GLAD program works great for knee and hip arthritis. Developed in Denmark and usually 90% doesn't need surgery.
Lookin good. Thank you. And I appreciate the humor.
Thank you for your continued support!! We couldn't do it without you!
I just did a few reps of each exercise as you did them and my hip pain has decreased by 60% in a matter of minutes 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
The last 3 for the glute work, 3 reps and fatigue/burning was felt which tells me I need A LOT of work in that area.
Thank you for the awesome videos that help thousands. Have a great holiday season with your loved ones. 😊
Hi Doctors I hope if you try to make a video about shoulder arthritis.
I've managed to avoid hip surgery for 6 years by doing exercises. I no longer need to use my stick.
Would you do a session for those of us 70+ with hip arthritis. Thank you!!
Thanks
Taking 2 boron in the morning and 2 in the evening completely erased hip pain from inflammation of the hip joints.
Why?
@@davidharris8192 It's an anti inflammatory
Can you say why that worked?
@@Mustachio63 I can''t other than it's a potent anti inflammatory that specifically works for my hip pain. When I skip a dose or two, I have significant pain.
Yes indeed.....YOGA IS FANTASTIC! It might be the tissue and not the bone!
Missing your relaxed humour of the past. Any chance of bringing it back?
We will certainly try but a lot of people want us to get straight to the point with no banter so we are working on a happy medium 😊
Thank you!!
Merry Christmas, thank you! Make a magnesium oil 50-50 magnesium flakes and boiling water, stir to dissolve. Once cooled, Gently massage into the muscles of your bum, hip leg. This helps my muscles heal and calm down . Thank you!
Hey thanks
Hi Bob!! 😊🤗🤗
I have concurrent PN. I need the cane!!
6:27 Why Mike?!
Bob has been teaching him 😂
glute exercises?
You guys are great!!
Tell me about the shoes you two are wearing. I wear HOKA Bondis all the time for support. Your shoes look like they don’t have much support but look comfortable
QUESTION: Can tight hips cause low back pain?
Get an X-Ray to see your joint. If you're getting spurs and lost your cartilage, you may very likely need surgery.
I really need an exoskeleton device I'm just falling apart and that's just the way it is I watch your channel you have great information and I apply it whenever I can😊 part of the catch is you have to keep your psyche in good shape you definitely have to have an upbeat attitude it helps a lot more than a lot of people may think
The white stripe in Brad’s pant leg looks like a leg bone (hip to ankle) when doing the glute exercise.
lol
What about increasing strength in the glutes?
That would be helpful, all strengthening would have it’s benefits for sure
Can this make your leg hurt all the way down the side from your hip to your knee?
I have that issue too!! I think it started with a sciatica problem.
Do NOT use a massage gun on the bone part of your hips, even if it feels good. It causes a lot of friction between the ball and socket, which are already screwed up.
@BobandBrad if you suggest tiptoe walking exercise, then is it better wearing a shoe with medium heels?
Hey guys what are your thoughts on vibration plates/machines?
Bob is looking Great!!!❤
Hi guys thanks for this.
100oz = 2.957,35ml = almost 3 liters! Those are some big glasses if you're using 8.
Movement is life
Thanks guys!
Just put the thera panel in cart. Thanks for 20$ coupon
Where can I buy the 4 node hip massager?
Here is the link: amzn.to/3BCxfFA
Fibular head pain! Can you help? Something actually moves in there (NOT meniscus) and when it does it takes me down
I have been diagnosed with bone on bone hip and told I need hip replacement. - can any of these keep me away from the surgeon for some more time ?
May we use these for Osteoporosis hip aches?
I’d like to know this also.
Can hip issues cause numbness in the small toes?
Ask your doctor to check your TS (iron saturation). It is very common for anybody with your ancestry to have an iron overload issue that causes numb and tingling in the toes
1) Sleep with a pillow between your knees
2) Move your hips more frequently
3) Drink more water to keep your cartilage healthy
4) Stretch your thighs, one at a time
What a bunch of hippies.
Jeff , watch out when Brad has that red stick.
Is there anyone who has actually found a FIRM mattress that they like.
LOL
that leg will have my wife eager for the next video.
Spondy, will not let me use pillows
sleeping on my lazy boy actually feels better than on a bed..and with massage mode w heat i seldom need melatonin and i will use my cane for self defense..i just wish it was a cattle prod.
Forget the overpriced massage device. You can do the same thing with a tennis ball.
Tennis balls are a PT’s best friend !
You lie not lay :)
We try, we try
Mike is so annoying. Passive aggressive humor.
Sorry you feel that way!! It takes time to get to know someone, trust us, he’s great!!
