I was diagnosed with hip arthritis for years. I was given cortisone shots, physical therapy, massage, etc. My hips did not show improvement. I had X-rays done, early on, but none done for follow up. It finally got to the point that I needed a cane. I just could not find relief. My PT said I lacked the motivation to get better.
I moved back to my hometown and returned to my old doctor. First thing he do was order new X-rays. It showed that my hips were bone-on-bone, all the cartilage was gone. My hips were never going to get better. He immediately sent me to an orthopedic surgeon and I had both hips replaced within one year. It was a life changer. It’s been 2 years and I am pain free. I’m back to walking and jogging and I have lost 20 lbs. PT was absolutely necessary after my surgery and success depends on how hard you were willing to work. But please see a doctor if your pain keeps getting worse, despite how hard you try to improve.

So glad you saw another doctor, and shame on that PT who said you weren’t improving because you weren’t “motivated.” 🙄 Glad you’re doing better!

My hip pain was also due to bone on bone issues. I was born without cartilage in most of my joints but getting doctors to believe that isn’t easy. When they finally take X-rays and MRIs they get it. My replacement was a miracle also, wish I hadn’t waited so long.

I didn't realize how bead my hip was and I tried exercise but no amount of exercise would help in my condition. I don't know why it was such a mystery to the PT and surgeon that I needed a hip replacement based on my x ray. I switched doctors and had a successful hip replacement. Don't suffer like I did. I have a high pain tolerance, I thought I was sitting in the wrong chair, walking on pavement too much, had a leg length discrepency, an impingement, etc. Initially, I thought it was my back, so I went into the back surgeon (he did a successful discectoomy and laminectomy on me 1 year earlier) and I said "I feel like my leg is broken!" He said it's your hip so I did the PT For 6 weeks, then an MRI They put me on crutches after the MRI. They thought my bones were fractured. This was not the case. After my hip replacement my surgeon said I have great bones. What a saga. Listen to your gut!

I understand the frustration. A neurologist told us my mom was not motivated and prescribed an antidepressant. We then saw her internist and she was having surgery for a bilateral subdural hematoma a few days later. I relayed the information to the neurologist's office-they wanted to know if she was still taking the antidepressant!

I have been complaining about hip pain for months. Doc gave me an exercise sheet. We do a lot of them in my yoga and strength stretch and balance classes. But I am so excited to try pillow placement between knees or under legs. In one night the pain completely resolved while in bed. A miracle! I am a nurse. I always used pillow placement to help people get comfortable. Now practicing what I preached. Thank you!

I have severe hip pain in both hips. I was told that I have arthritis in the back and hips. I have been able to get the pain in my back to go away but my hips kill me every morning when I get up the pain is there all day long. I have been doing exercises and walking but it doesn’t seem to be helping long-term at all. Is it possible that it is not arthritis causing pain as it is in both hips equally. Further to this, I am also undergoing. tests for serious long-term extreme constipation. I thought it had gotten better when I discontinued pre-Gabalin but not so is there other conditions that could be causing the pain in both hips please respond I am beyond desperate and have been to see Physio and medical doctors.

I'm 74 and have had arthritis for 4 years (though I'll have to admit, the pain from my broken femur and hip from two years ago makes it difficult for me to distinguish which hurts the most 😊). I've always been health conscious but the "8 glasses of water a day" thing always made me think: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know." I can tell you, IT IS IMPORTANT--especially because the pollution in the air contains powerful desiccants. If you're home is dry, the air is dry, or your skin seems unnaturally dry or your eyesight is wonky, it could very well be the disiccants absorbing moisture from the air. I was having trouble focusing on distant objects--it started 6 months ago. I finally started drkinking eight glasses of water a day: my eye issues cleared up, my skin is smoother and more firm, and I just feel better all around. If you live in a naturally dry area (I live in SW Utah) drink lots of water (but check with your doctor if you have kidney issues), and use a humidifier. I can't emphasize the power of water enough (I drink purified water only; fortunately, my town doesn't fluoridate our water.)

I’m in my 30’s and I have had hip pains for years due to a fall when I landed on my hip when I was younger. It’s been almost 2 decades and every couple of years it gets worse. If I exercise too much or walk too long my hips will be sore for at least 3 days. I do yoga and stretch everyday. They pop every time I move because I sit all day for work. This is really helpful reminder to stretch the different hip muscles for prevention . Great advice! Thank you.

My first hint of hip arthritis was knee pain. After months of having to stop during a short walk and bend over in pain, I saw a doctor who shot X-rays of knee and hip. No hip joint cartilage left - I was going to need surgery. I went to physical Rx and some other stuff. I had both hips replaced the second six months after the first. I was playing tennis six weeks after the second one.
Physical therapy didn’t replace the cartilage or change the painful stimulation caused by bone grating on bone.

My concern in these situation is, if we avoid surgery with good pt at age 70, but later end up having to get that surgery at 80, that surgery and the anesthesia will be significantly more difficult to recover from. It seems to me that past age 65, if we see surgery coming at us in our future, getting it done sooner rather than later might be a good idea. Of course we need to keep in mind longevity of surgical interventions and how many years before a revision might be needed.

Hip replacement surgery is considered necessary when the hip joint is so damaged or worn that mobility is severely reduced or there is pain even while the patient is resting.
Hip replacement surgery is only offered when other less intensive treatments are not beneficial for improving mobility or reducing pain. I am a double replacement recipient and it’s like a miracle cure. Too bad you lose years of your life in pain waiting for the diagnosis, referral, and specialist consultation before surgery.

BUILDING UP THE MUSCLES AROUND THE HIP JOINT DOESN’T REGROW THE CARTILAGE that keeps bone from grating on bone and firing the pain fibers intended to prevent further wear/tear. It actually serves to pull the leg bone into the hip socket more securely. Get the surgery if you have insurance. Get Medicaid if you don’t.

Musculature supports the joints so the joint doesn't take all the loading. Of course, once you're far enough gone surgery is appropriate, but after it you are going to get PT and need to build the muscle back up. The more muscle you have before surgery the easier it will be to recover.

X-rays showed "bone on bone". You can't exercise that back, or improve by walking differently. Time for joint replacement. It works. Pain free since 2006, and subsequent hip Left side 2017. Your advice with exception- cushion at knees when side sleeping is helpful, but not a permanent solution.

If you have bone on bone hip arthritis get it replaced pt will not work in the long run.I had bone on bone and I put it off to long to the point my ball and socket was on the verge of collapsing.Had both of mine replaced two years ago and I should have done it sooner

Remarkedly at 79 after a fall my hip pain healed itself. The hip joint constructed hardened nodules which rebuild the joint. I saw an x ray of it taken by the surgeon so she decided to try and break these nodules so I would have an extensive operation with rods in the pelvis and hip replacement. The power had gone off at night and I lost my balance in the dark. But the osteo surgeon yanked my leg so hard I now have constant hip pain which I never had before but has slowly gotten better. I advise people to stay away from all health care providers. A keto diet did not help me either and lost only 3 kg. My hip now is regenerating to a point where very soon I will not feel any pain on waking and can walk without pain. People whose ancestors lived in the Alps or the Panjshir Valley tend to have this miracle cure to a greater degree.

Get an X-Ray to see your joint. If you're getting spurs and lost your cartilage, you may very likely need surgery.

Do NOT use a massage gun on the bone part of your hips, even if it feels good. It causes a lot of friction between the ball and socket, which are already screwed up.

Hi guys thanks for this. I was lifting some heavy boxes and really messed up my back. It was much more than Spasms. I'm going to get a regular X-Ray soon. I don't know what's wrong and understand that back problems seem to get misdiagnosed often. Are these general exercises that are good for just about anyone with problems? ALSO Im in my rocker Lounge chair often with my legs up. Is there a correct position in this chair to reduce pain? Unfortunately it doesn't recline backwards very well.

Thanks guys! I recently had PT for this and learned some of the same exercises and stretches you show here. They have helped a lot. I also have a set of warm-up exercises for karate that I learned long ago and they help to move my left hip socket back into its best place. My hip flexor gets so stiff sometimes that the pain is worst in the knee insertion. I have learned to massage that a bit before doing the hang stretch. Great info! Thanks again.👍

Just get rid of sugar and anything that breaks down into sugar. I had terrible arthritis in my feet. Quit eating any sugar and grains and I was out walking again. You’ll probably lose weight too.

    • @paddlepower888
      @paddlepower888 Місяць тому

MAYBE. I had knee pain initially and hip pain that didn’t respond to pillows, elevation, PT or medication. I was in pain for eight months while putting off the first replacement. If the doctor had asked if I wanted both done at once, I would’ve screamed yes. The second was done six months after the first. I was back on the tennis court three weeks after that. Three years on, I’m pain free.

    1) Sleep with a pillow between your knees
    2) Move your hips more frequently
    3) Drink more water to keep your cartilage healthy
    4) Stretch your thighs, one at a time

Guys, I took some graveyard shift, I sleep 6.5 hrs a day and sleep in a van, 35 years old and I´m having back problems, are there any like mods that I can do to my body, maybe replace my spine with some titanium robotic one or something? I hate having a body

    • @marynadononeill

Get a better mattress.Though 35 is young, you can't keep being rough on your body. Get an indoor living situation.
Your back can improve. Your body can heal itself but you have to take better care of yourself. Don't hate your body.
God gave it to you to experience this life and to love Him!

My arthritis didn't happen naturally. I was struck by a car doing 35. My hip arthritis is a result of damage. My doctor thinks I should be able to dance. I keep moving my legs and hips, and working on losing weight. The pain is nonstop and I'm allergic to pain killer meds. I had my accident at 27 - I'm 56 now. I've been dealing with pain all these years now. Not looking for even more pain. I'll use some of these techniques, but I don't see myself running any races soon... LOL
