Im a 58 year old rail worker who was recently diagnosed with athritis in my right hip . I started watching your videos about 2 months ago and i began to incorporate your stretching exercises into my daily routine and i have had a huge reduction in pain . Honestly my hip hasnt felt this good in years . Thank you very much for posting these informative videos .
That's so great! Same...arthritis in my right hip. My pain has gone from a level 8-10 to a 3-4 just by incorporatiing his videos into my daily routine. Amazing! Ever so thankful!
I was diagnosed with hip OA and all the orthopedic surgeons I consulted earlier this year told me to have a hip replacement. I didn't want surgery but was afraid if my hip would get worse and my other joints would get affected negatively without it. I began looking for alternative opinions on how to treat hip OA without surgery from many sources including the videos on this channel. I tried to change my diet and follow the exercises and within less than two months I could feel improvement in mobility, strength and pain -- since the beginning I tried to stay away from any pain killer. Glad I didn't have the surgery and hope my hip will continue to heal. Thanks so much for the priceless information Doc. This video has convinced once again that surgery is not the only way to deal with hip OA.
I don't know if I sent a comment to you before. I've been all over UA-cam... I'm a 72 year old woman and in excellent health. I bike (8 miles/30 minutes)around my community, 25 miles on country bike trails in an hour and a half, hike forest preserves 3 miles in an hour, swim 60 - 25 meter lengths in under an hour. Lift weights 3-4 times a week. Cook from scratch, organic locally grown. I was thrown from a horse when I was 13 and landed on my right hip. Decades of pain issues, physical therapy, chiropractic, you name it. I was physically active as a kid as well. I just stopped in line skating a couple of years ago. I fell when I hit a grass filled crack in the pavement.... Windmilled my arms and broke my fall with my hands ( yes I wear complete pads and helmet). Scared me since I'm elderly 😊 and I've never broken any bones in all my years of exercising. I had pt and dry needling 4 times last month but my hip still "unhinges" and it feels like what I imagine a cattle prod feels like. I'm supposed to be scheduled for hip replacement surgery in 3 months BUT I found you. Now I'm reconsidering. I stopped riding my bike and hiking for a month and I use the pull buoy (foam peanut) between my legs while swimming. The pain has become an occasional ache, my range of motion is back ( knee to chest) I still get a warning twinge after exercise. Phew! Sorry! I know this is lengthy. So. Now I don't know if I "should" have surgery. Oh: diagnosed with torn labrum, osteoarthritis, bone spurs on the ball. I just started your exercise routine: fidget, glute squeezing, bent knee etc.
I literally have all these! Got diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis back in the fall of 2020. Started with conservative approach. Did a PRP injection to see if that would help. It didn't. Was provided with an amazing off-loader brace and that helped with my pain. Eventually tried Cortisone. Did 2 of those. Provided temporary relief, but it just wasn't enough. I'm only 39 so my doc didn't want to go straight to surgery. But it's progressed DRAMATICALLY over the last 18 months. It's insane. I have a 3° internal rotation. So basically nothing. It's constant pain. I'm over it. I want my life back. I'm a fitness professional and love being active. I can't do it anymore. I dread even getting up to walk to the trash can these days. I get less than 5,000 steps/day cuz I just can't do it. I've gained weight and I'm just done! I am scheduled for THR (anterior). I'm absolutely terrified and am dreading that recovery process but I'm so ready!
Hi did you get it done ? I cancelled 2 years ago but now having a big flare up and feel I might need to do it. I'm so scared though. I was an orthopaedic nurse so I know what it's all about.
@cinders I'm getting mine done 3 weeks from today. Even though I'm absolutely terrified I'm so excited! The last month things have gotten so much worse and I am struggling getting around the house at this point. I can't live my life like this. I turn 40 in September... this is my 40th birthday present to myself
@cinders If you were an orthopedic nurse then I'm sure you've seen people recover very well from this surgery. It's got like the highest satisfaction and recovery rate from all the joint replacements
@@QMW11 Do let me know how you get on. Are you having a spinal block and staying awake, are you having the anterior incision ? I'm sorry you are so young I'm 68 but like 40 in my head :) I have no trouble getting around but this flare up is painful when I do certain moves. I practice Qigong which is great and I changed my diet which also helped, no gluten, no lactose, no Sugar plus I take quite a few supplements. I think as I have been present during this procedure as a nurse I visualise every move ! Wishing you a fast recovery and you better start shining your dancing shoes :)
@cinders I believe I'm having spinal with sedation. Seems to be the preferred method with this so that you can get up and moving quickly post-op. Totally freaks me out thinking I won't be totally under. But I believe it's twilight medication, so I shouldn't remember anything. I'm having anterior approach. I'm pretty freaked out but at this point I can barely walk, so what's my alternative? I can't live like this anymore
I mentioned this here before, I had severe pain in my groin from oa in my right hip, and a bad limp. I was diagnosed with oa in 2000. A rheumatologist asked me if I wanted a referral to a surgeon for a hip replacement. I said that I had just started to take glucosamine and wanted to wait to see if it would help me. Within a week, my groin pain and limp were gone and I was fine for 15 years. At that time, I started to feel a little discomfort and realized that the glucosamine was not working as well. By 2018, I was back to severe groin pain and a bad limp. I could hardly walk. But, I didn't get a hip replacement. I got a hip resurfacing, a surgical procedure which saves the hip and immediately restores it to full mobility and strength. A year later, I was back to playing basketball and have had no problem with my hip since the surgery. An NBA player had oa in his hip and had the same surgery with my surgeon. He is back to playing professional basketball again. So, hip resurfacing is a great alternative to hip replacement. It's much to be preferred. I would try glucosamine for oa of the knee too. The longer you can avoid a knee replacement the better the chance that there will be a breakthrough in cartilage regeneration.
Hey Alan! Sorry to hear about your knee oa and hip pain :-( Yes hip resurfacing is less invasive than a replacement and might be a better option for some people. We're glad that you had a great outcome! It's still important to address the root muscle imbalance that set up the first hip and knee problem so that there isn't a next surgery.
@Jane Johnson I don't know the full details but it has something to do with the angle of the femur (leg bone) into or from the hip socket. Women's hips are wider whereas men's are narrow so much so that the femur (leg bone) runs straight down from hip, to knees, to ankles and then to feet. The more angled femur in women is the problem. The hip clinic didn't go into it.
I fell in 2022 and really damaged my right hip. It seems I already had hip arthritis and didn't know it. This year I decided to go to the gym and build the muscles around my hip and my right hip has been feeling better. Now on top of that I have been doing the exercises for hip arthritis for two days now and I get up without hip pain. The pain at night has almost gone away! I feel so much better! Thank you Dr. David very much for introducing these exercises and your knowledge on UA-cam. I don't want a hip replacement and they say I need one.
@@epmanualphysicaltherapy I realize now that it started with a fused spine then IT band syndrome (because my knee was hurting and I had a spot just off to the side of the front pocket and was hurting quite often), hip tendonitis (the hip flexor right in the front) and now hip arthritis. The frustrating and sad part about all of this is years ago no one knew anything about musculoskeletal issues. I think it would have been viewed as eastern medicine. It is too late now for me to prevent any of the wear and tear to my body however with the exercises for hip arthritis I may be able to avoid a hip replacement surgery or at least postpone it yet for years to come. I've already had a major surgery on my spine (twice) so I don't want another major surgery of any kind at all. Thanks for your help and as I've stated, my hip is feeling better already.
I think I'm going to need my 2nd hip replacement, but after years of sedentary lifestyle I'm working hard on resoring function and strength first. It's helping.
I have pain every night for the past 2 years. I'm very fit, and can run, but the pain every night keeps me from sleeping well AT ALL. Also have reduced ROM in the hip. Weakness is getting worse. PT has had no effect. Tylenol and Advil don't even make a dent on the pain. Limping every step. Beginning to effect the knee on the same side. I'm only 60 but I think I need this procedure before it's too late.
Have you made any decisions about surgery? My pain is always coming out of the sitting position. Right above my left knee. All the best for you. We definitely need our sleep and mobility. Take care.
Jeepers I have all three symptoms of hip replacement but I have only mild bone spurs on the femur head and lateral impingement. (This has come on pretty quickly so hoping it is inflamed mainly). Has happened when getting second leg into car and seized. I am now doing butt contractions and wiggling legs whilst sitting. I'm hoping all this will heal first and have ordered some chondroitin. Keeping fingers crossed.
You recommend getting off my feet as much as possible to bring down a flare up- but I get more stiffness & pain from sitting or lounging than I do from standing or walking.
Same with myself. Fortunately resting in my recliner or bed works. My trouble is coming out of the sitting position in a regular chair or my car. All the best
@@dennistyler9852 Me too. After a week of this pain, I tried to sit down to do a few trades, I felt absolutely no pain sitting down and got carried away for an hour. When I tried to stand, BAM!! I almost peed my pants because of the pain.
@@nilobeebee I hope you’re doing better. Trying to balance the muscles as this gentleman suggests. I really like listening to his videos. It’s now up to me to pursue the necessary work to improve myself. Trying not to have surgery. Wish you the very best.
@@dennistyler9852 Thank you, I hope you get better too. I can't imagine people living with this pain for years. Last time I got this was 2020 at the start of the pandemic. I endured 3 months of this without painkillers. I don't know how long this episode is gonna last.
I was told I had mild to moderate arthritis yet I’ve been in pain 24/7 for months.. most exercises for the groin are excruciating.. Celebrex generic is doing nothing
I’ve doubled my cycling distance to try and relieve the osteoarthritis pain in my right hip. The surgeon who looked at my X-rays is an avid cyclist and he said to keep cycling. I really don’t want surgery. I was supposed to get knee surgery years ago but by the time the follow up consultation came I was pain-free because I’d been strengthening the muscles, and I was now hiking up mountains in the Yukon. I’m hoping exercises and cycling will do the same for my hip. My younger brother has both knees replaced, my mom has them replaced twice plus two hip replacements and a shoulder replacement, and my sister (11 yrs younger) is being crippled by arthritis (bone graft to a knee, fused ankle, backbone issues, hands and wrists hurting). I’m now the oldest family member that hasn’t had major surgery (or any surgery for that matter) and I really hope I can keep it that way for another two decades (then statistically I’ll be dead so … yay?). :)
Jan, 76 years old from Ohio. This is my first flare up with hip pain. Just found out I had OA and am terrified of having a hip replacement. I want to do anything to put it off. Watching your videos with the hope you can help me with all your good suggestions. How critical is losing weight to improve upon this condition?
Having followed Dr D's advice and exercises for knees, shoulders and hips I can confirm he knows what he's talking about ! Listen, learn and implement his teachings. I've had great results and massive pain reduction. I still have a ways to go but what a relief. Thank u Dr D.
I returned to teaching part time after being retired for a year & my hip pain returned. I was doing great especially after starting HRT. I had been doing glute strengthening exercises after watching your videos & then I stopped prioritizing them. I am going to get back to it starting today! This just reminded me of my open bite issue. The dentist wanted me to have surgery, but I learned that many people relapse because they don’t fix the tongue thrust issue which is an underlying cause. I am so grateful for your videos. I have an appointment in a month with an orthopedic doctor, but I am going to strengthen my glutes & hopefully I improve. By the way, I improved my bite with myofacial therapy & never had jaw surgery. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰Thank you Dr. David soooooo much for sharing your knowledge free of charge!! May you be blessed for this!! I as a 52 year old right hip arthritic having been officially diagnosed I think about a year and a half ago was successfully discharged from PT a few months ago with the goal of no hip replacement. You have added to my knowledge base regarding the butt muscles which I never heard PT or my orthopedic doc mention!! So, that's my focus, butt strengthening, to help keep me from a future replacement. I found you a month or so ago and am glad to be a new subscriber!!!
Thank you Dr. David for your videos. I have bone on bone in both hips. I go to PT but I know they don’t have as much time to explain everything to me. And that is where your expertise in these videos come in, So very helpful! Does riding a stationary bike aggravate the hips?
I’m 41 and been with chronic hip pain now for 6/7 years. Had bilateral hip arthroscopy in 2020 to repair laberal tears etc without much success. I can do everything in terms of range of motion but so many things flare up my hips. I gym, play Padel, kitesurf, golf etc
1st I’d like to say, I really enjoy listening and learning from the good Doctor/Therapist. I have 3 out of 5. I can stand on my feet all day. My trouble is when I’m coming out of the sitting position. My left quad can tighten up and I can hobble off but I wait for it to unlock and I can walk without pain. I’m trying the exercises, had PT and hoping not to have surgery. Fortunately I can rest in my recliner or lay in bed without any discomfort. All the best to everyone.
I've been experiencing right hip pain & occasional acute giving way ( buckling) sensation & weakness for several years which has got more acutely painful the last 6 months. My pelvis is mostly tilted ( high on right) & rotated & I have this corrected by a chiropractor. I've been couched ( on & off for years) in Egoscue exercises to create symmetry & strength; but the pain has increased, my right knee is becoming painfu,l & a hip x-ray has just shower severe osteoarthritis 😢 I'm feeling very despondent & confused after all the expense & work which has failed to prevent deterioration of my hip. I still have reasonable movement but am limping a lot & finding gardening very painful now. I'm wondering if some of the exercises to stabilise my pelvis, such as standing thigh stretches, have made the pressure in my hip joint worse ? I dread needing a hip replacement!
Thank you from Huntington Beach California. I have not been able to surf for over a year my front leg /hip has been on and offf for years, trying to avoid surgery but in line for it as well. I am trying your excersizes...thank you
Love what I’m learning from you Doc. I have sever spinal stenosis and found u here on u-tube, teaching myself to walk correctly!!! And it is beginning to pay off! Thank u so much. Thank u! I will be a constant believer. I found u now👏👏👍
In 2005 I was scheduled for knee replacement surgery and 2 days before a friend advised me to think twice as I would probably need to redo the replacement in 10yrs so I decided to delay the surgery. Its 15 yrs since and i am still coping with controlled diet and limited activity but cant stand or sit for long. Thanks to your valuable advice I am now focusing on the exercises you recommend to strengthen my thigh and hip muscles and butt. 🙏 🙌
I have bone spurs. I didn't hear that mentioned. I have been told moderate to severe arthritis with bone spurs in my left hip. Eight days ago after trying to rest it after really pushing it from September 7-13 very hard for days as my husband had overall perfusion test on Aug 30th then on September 6 had preoperative for heart cath then they had us stay at a hotel for heart catherization the next morning. It showed unexpected results. Within the hour he was transferred to MISSION Memorial to their Heart Tower with possible surgery that day. I walked futher and faster than I had in years for 9 days. I was also having to push it at home to take care of my hubby when on the 27th of September I was sitting and my Rottweiler caught the inside of my left leg and spread the leg outward fast as my chair went around some too. The pain now grabs me and jerks me forward if I sit in a seat with no cushion much as I stand it stops me as I try to straighten up jerking me back down about 6 plus inches and pain goes from my left groin straight through and out near SI joint in buttock. Feels sharp like a knife and have to wiggle to get that to release and afraid to move and don't want my back jerked either. What do you do for this?
I had my first hip replacement 8:10 years ago I'm getting ready to have my other hip done the 4th of October 2023 I've been a carpenter since 1978 my body is pretty worn out
My hip pain stared in my groing, then my sciatica, then I was using a cane. I have loss of movement, and it's been 5 months. I can't exercise because I stretch my left keg and my right groin hurts really bad. I have all the 5 things you mention pluss more Now I can't walk so I need a surgery. It's schedule for january

I have been having a SORE right hip for some months and recently it has interfered with sleep even though I started sleeping on the left. I used this channel to do the glute exercises 2 days ago and I was miraculously cured. With computers we don't try 2 cures at once, as if we are successful, we don't know what the problem was. Unfortunately, I started ibuprofen 2 days ago, so was it the exercises or was it the ibu ? I have full movement with knees up to my chest and I can walk in the woods now with no pain and I am sleeping fine for 2 nights. Have I perhaps got rid of an 'adhesion' through the exercises ? I am 75, not overweight, and at the computer 8 hours every day.. An Englander who has washed up in Wiscaaaarnsin. PS THANK YOU !
Hello from Australia, I have been told that I need a hip replacement, I have had x ray which shows significant oa. Had ultrasound which showed fluid in front of groin and bursitis in hip, had prednisone tabs then prednisone injected by ultrasound which did nothing to relieve the pain, Have seen surgeon and I have taken out private health insurance and will have to wait one year for operation. My problem is that I can’t weight bare and have been walking with the aid of one crutch. My knee on the opposite leg is now causing significant pain and discomfort obviously from the silly walking. I have tried most of your hip exercises but all have caused discomfort. I can’t take anti inflammatory drugs as I had an anaphylactic reaction to them 10 years ago, can you recommend any knee exercise that will protect it from damage.
you are helpful this is the second vid I watched, today after a pain flare up I ran across your vid on how to walk with yur glutes. It was awkward but let me finish my day. A good day being a sign of being able to heal is so much better news than what they told me. And I like the spanish speaking too
Thank you for your very good to follow explanations, your encouragement and your basic but helpful step by step exercises! I have a hip replacement scheduled for summer (and in Germany, there are no expenses to it) but I hope, with the help of your advice, I can be able to cancel it. Thank you very much!
You're welcome Lothar!!! We hope you improve tremendously over the next weeks so you can successfully avoid this hip replacement! At the very least, you'll be in better condition going into the surgery should you still decide to go through with it.
I had a hip replacement in October 2020 osteoarthritis last year my other hip is bothering me sometimes I here a bone pop I know eventually I will have another hip replacement I was out for 8 weeks thanks for the video going back wards on the elliptical machine helps a lot
Yes, I think I'm at the point of replacement. I have 4/5 problems. I tried the exercises in your video, but it hurts my hip to do them. So I suppose then that I have all 5. Thank you
thank you for this video. it's the lost nights of sleep that you mentioned that i teared up over. yes. PTSD for me. i've had an anterior THR and it was the very best thing. been waiting for the other "hip to drop" so to speak and i think it has, almost 7 years later. the loss of sleep has plagued for me several weeks now, and hearing you talk about it made me cry. been treating the inflammation as you have suggested but i'd also like to add that you should get off inflammatory foods too!! Corn is a trigger for me, wheat, sugar, soy and processed foods will add to inflammation and increased pain. you bet i'm off of those (even alcohol) during this flare up
Hi Sherilyn, It is our pleasure to be able to help out! Our hearts break seeing that you have been suffering and losing sleep due to the pain you have been experiencing in your hip.💔 It does take a huge mental, emotional, and physical toll on us when pain levels are so high, and then not being able to sleep exacerbates the issue. We hope that the information we provided serves you well and you can get the relief you have been seeking. Thank you for mentioning limiting inflammatory foods. It can be very helpful to avoid foods that cause inflammation. In case you are interested we do have additional information and exercises in a playlist we have compiled for hip pain help. Thank you for these simple first exercises. In February 2021 was told by physiatrist X-rays I have arthritis on upper socket. He suggest seeing surgeon. I’ve been using a cane ..walked 200-300 ‘ .in August 2021 .surgeon said surgery ! I asked to try pt and got a shot ..did nothing ..After PT 4 x’s felt better after 10 sessions , they worked me too hard and hurt worse .. I’m still taking 4 Aleves daily ..2 yrs and intermittently a Tylenol. Did some of your easy ones , but as a clue for you I can only pull knee to chest at 30 degrees. Should I just do surgery and Stat Living my Life again at 65 . I appreciate your input . ❤️❤️❤️
I was so interested to read your comments. I think try the nutrition route as I did and Qigong. A Qigong master came to the region where I live and said we shouldn't get hip replacements ! I'll try to find the link to the video for you.
Darla in arkansas If I sit when i stand it doesnt feel like i can get my leg under me to put weight on it. I get it straight then i can limp away.I have bursitis and back stenosis as well.
Hello Dear Dr David.....I'm so extremely grateful for your time and valuable advice...Thanks a million ! I listen intently as I really do not ,if I can possibly avoid it...want to undergo surgery again..( I've had a partial knee replacement about 7 yrs ago...have never been happy with it...)....I am 73 yrs old ..have always been self sufficient .strong .capable .and an avid gardner .etc etc .but now I am practically a cripple....I've got severe curvature of the spine.... ( Have had as far back as I remember ).. Now..also sciatica with pain extending in groin area.. and in and around the replacement..knee ..It takes No weight bearing at all...I have got austio arthritis in my knees.. ( Have had for years!)....Other knee (left ) showing signs of weakness and pain lately too. So...I guess this all begins with my deformed spine ..now HIP and KNEE .? Am I a lost cause? PS..Lately 3 outside fingers of my left hand are numb too...which I understand is to do with pinched nerves on my back/neck area..? 🤔 🥴 🇦🇺
Oh..David...meant to also mention...that x rays revealed extra bone growth in my right troublesome knee ....... I understand to counter the off balanced weight distribution ...... ?? Think it's on the INSIDE of knee.......🤔
My sincere apologies..Doctor..I addressed you as Dr. David.! ?? What can I say ? I'm no longer young ☹️ ..I get confused at times.....🤭.I'm so sorry Doctor.. ! Please forgive me. You ARE my favourite ❤ I..think you are amazing...and MANY THANKS..for all your help and marvellous presentation. 👍 😝 🇦🇺
I just had full knee replacement August and did the other knee in October and now dr is telling me my left hip is bone on bone and need hip replacement. I am only 53 years old so hopefully I can ride it out for a little while give my body a break from another surgery. Hopefully your videos are going to help me

My hip pain 1 Effect my sleep if i dont do exercise. If i dont exercises for the hip the night tightness will be worse. Pain is 2-3/10 but tightness of the muscles. Even if I do exercise (recomended by physio) the hip pain is also there but less. Applying heat oil is also good. 2 Not much range of motion problem if i warm up or do daily exercises. 3 Cannot play golf or badminton or run much. Pain of hip if i do. Mainly sleep problem. Level of pain is as describe above. 4 I brisk walk 3 times a week. But not too much the hip dont like it, so I do your hip joint exercises. So I walk only about 3km instead of 5km. Do I need a hip replacement?
My R hip hurts as well as my R buttocks, and the doctor says I have arthritis in my hip and I need a hip replacement. I had a fusion on my back L4 and L5 in 2020, and I don't feel that helped at all. I stopped seeing any doctor about my issues, and I'm trying to just fix things myself. Can you recommend anything specifically I can do? I totally trust you Joanne
So sorry I missed your live have been watching vids on hip replacement exercises, sleeping positions etc. I definitely have a limitation of motion in my hip. I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the hip I’m a healthy 62 yrs old. I’m in pain some days more than others and have lots of stiffness, I’m considering the cortisone shots in the meantime. I do my stationary bike daily but at times it can be difficult. Very helpful vids. Thank you so much. Love from Montreal.
@@njl18369 Thank you for your info. I was so desperate a year ago for anything to help alleviate my pain and discomfort. I never had the cortisone shots ( thank goodness) I eventually had hip replacement surgery and so happy I did it. I have fully recovered and better than before. Thanks again.
I had hip replacement four years ago. I was badly traumatised, drug resistent any preop i dont think i even had. Experiemced everything except straight pain. The grinding thr smell thr hammering. I couldny do physio, i couldmt sit ina chair. I went home and going upstairs i blacked out, couldmhardly make it to bed. I had to use a suspended chambernpot where i could avoid bending my hip atall, it was agony. I have been mostly bedridden every since, i have no balance my legs are weak. Now i think the right hip has gone
Hi all yes i have every one of these signs and it's driving me crazy, Nights are bad, constant pain 24/7 Been on the waiting lists in UK for 72 weeks so far, thought i was getting there then my operation got canceled due to doctor strike action, pain relief is not working anymore, I have felt suicidal quite a few time in the last few months, I am age 71 not sure how much more i can take :(
My heart goes out to you. You have lots of years left. Your turn will come. Ive put mine off for 3 years and also can't take anymore. Fortunately, here in the States I've got booked in for October 5th 2023. I only had a 4 week wait. I hope you're rescheduled by now. Keep in touch. I'd like to know how you're doing. I'm 69 , English living in Tennessee.
I was diagnosed with severe hip OA on the right side and moderate on the left side. Working with a manual therapist in PA and told my problem is tight muscles. I have right side glute pain when driving and was told foam rolling glutes and quads is the solution. Do you agree? Have been foam rolling for about two months and still have the glute pain when driving. I get relief by stopping and walking around. How many months of foam rolling until I can drive pain free? You are an outstanding professional with amazing communication skills. Thank you so much for what you do!
Thank you for the information!! In 21 minutes I learned quite a bit on the five signs I absolutely need a hip replacement!! However, I have good days so I'm thinking that I can possibly avoid having surgery by strengthening my butt muscles and quad muscles. I think I need to work on the femoris muscle . I have to say that I am fused from t11 to S2 and I have left foot drop. It's no wonder that my right hip has severe bone on bone arthritis because of muscle imbalance!! I have been doing physical therapy but it seems like the exercises are causing my hip to flare more so I stopped for a week and I felt better, so I'm going to try some more strengthening of the glutes instead of like leg lifts I'm out in Tucson Arizona . Thank you for the valuable information!
Can you have some of the same symptoms for sciatica and for hip arthritis? An orthopedic doctor took an X-ray of my right hip and said I have hip arthritis with bone spurs. I have pain all over and down the leg. Groin pain, butt pain, side hip pain, walk with a limp. I just saw a video that said, how do you know if you have sciatica or hip arthritis? With hip pain can you have butt pain? Pain down the leg? Help!

I hada knee replacement. It hasn't gone well. I have a lot pain. 5 years on, the orthopaedic confirmed that it is loose. Im so afraid. Where do i go from here?
I find walking standing or excersise i tried is absolutely impossible 😢 I have lowered back fusion 1 year ago too but lower back still causes pain in these situations
Hi Dustin, We are so happy to hear you found this information helpful. Just in case you are interested we have a playlist for hip arthritis help. You can access it here: “Hip Arthritis Help” ua-cam.com/play/PLJVIPiFvv1mbICbP6qlXUZwMyAJlKD1dt.html Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not. We hope you found this information helpful to you. We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!
@ thank you. I actually have AVN and am trying to decide whether I want to go through with replacement sooner than later or not. Do you have any videos along those lines?
After ACL surgery i didnt go thru therapy correctly, so my legs started compensation meaning i was putting to much weight on one side since i didnt do the exercises for the surgical leg correctly. So now my leg is weak on the surgical side so its messing with other side. So now its bothering my hips, so where do i start? Get my knee checked out again or get my hip checked out
I’ve been in pain for over a month on my right leg. I did have back surgery over 5 years ago with no problems. I went to the ER and the doctor they did X-rays on my back looked really good so they said it was sciatica and gave me muscle relaxers and sent me to physical therapy but the therapist said I need a X-ray of the hip because when she did the test she does she said she couldn’t do anything for what they wanted. Not sure what to do now

Thank you - that was so helpful! I was told it couldn't be osteoarthritis because it came on too quickly! I will see a specialist shortly. I am a fitness instructor so moving around is my job so I can't really rest.

At least 15 years ago I had a traumatic injury to my hip, which over time resulted in some OA extending over part of the socket and inhibiting my ROM. Have a slight limp but no pain etc. My surgeon says when I start to have pain he will go in and do a replacement. My issue is that all I want is a debridement to get rid of the OA blocking my ROM. Is this the new thinking - replace, replace, replace instead of just going in and nipping the problem in the bud?
Is it okay to ride a recumbent bike with hip OA? I have a torn meniscus and that’s the only cardio I can do now. I hope biking is ok. Thank you Dr. David.
Hey Terri! Using a bike will be helpful if you can get your glutes to work during the exercise. If you feel you are using your quads more than your glutes while using the bike, then you will likely make your hip problem worse :-(
I was having hip pain. My rheumatologist thought it could ne a labral tear. I was sent to an ortho. After Xrays and mri, the dr said I have mild hip OA. No surprise there. His recommendation? Walk and exercise, but no referral to PT for guidance. Back to my pcp. Same thing! Why do I continually need to get guidance from PT’s on UA-cam?

Can you tell me the specific exercises?
Are you having a spinal block and staying awake, are you having the anterior incision
Hey Alan! Sorry to hear about your knee oa and hip pain :-(
Yes hip resurfacing is less invasive than a replacement and might be a better option for some people. We're glad that you had a great outcome!
It's still important to address the root muscle imbalance that set up the first hip and knee problem so that there isn't a next surgery.
Except that they never do a "resurfacing" on women.
Thanks for the hope.
@@Rottimail why dont they do it in women?
@Jane Johnson I don't know the full details but it has something to do with the angle of the femur (leg bone) into or from the hip socket. Women's hips are wider whereas men's are narrow so much so that the femur (leg bone) runs straight down from hip, to knees, to ankles and then to feet. The more angled femur in women is the problem. The hip clinic didn't go into it.
Well explained: "If you have some good days, you may be able to find out why and do more of that to avoid surgery."
Great to hear ROTTI!!
I have grade 3 left knee arthritis and right hip pain, iv had X-rays and waiting on injection. Constant pain every day
My right outer deep hip pain gets worse actually when I sit . Feels better when I stand and squeeze the glutes
And that is where your expertise in these videos come in,
So very helpful!
Does riding a stationary bike aggravate the hips?
I think I need a hip replacement had 2 so far. Years ago. I have all the symptoms. Hurts all the time. Use my wheel chair alot.
Thx for your honarble advice regarding hip replacement surgery. I am in a P. T. program now and trying so hard to avoid the knife.🙏💪
Hey Marti! You're very welcome! We put out the information but it's up to you to put in the good work in recovering without surgery! Keep it up! 😊
I've been couched ( on & off for years) in Egoscue exercises to create symmetry & strength; but the pain has increased, my right knee is becoming painfu,l & a hip x-ray has just shower severe osteoarthritis 😢
I'm feeling very despondent & confused after all the expense & work which has failed to prevent deterioration of my hip.
🙏 🙌
Sorry it was 2008 when I was scheduled for surgery
If you have hip replacement, you will be able to walk, swim and dance as long as you like.
I had my first hip replacement 8:10 years ago I'm getting ready to have my other hip done the 4th of October 2023 I've been a carpenter since 1978 my body is pretty worn out
Hi
Reading one of the testimonials about hip resurfacing can you explain what is that ?

Thank you that helps a lot, exercise gives slow results but helps
Barbara, New York, 78 years old. Can't tell whether it's the hip or sacroiliac issue.
Hi! I can hear you! From the mountains of Idaho
Hello there!
Ciao from Florence, Italy! Excellent videos and advice. I’ve added your glute exercises to my daily routine and they seem to be helping. Grazie!
Hey Patti! You're welcome!! We're so happy you've added glute exercises into your routine!!! And even more happy they're helping you!!! ❤️🇮🇹

The first cortisone shot lasted about 10 months the second about 6 months 3rd shot 1 month
Hi from greece. Your proposed exersices really helped me. Thank you. What about curcumin?
Thank you so much. Its very useful greetings from Africa
you are helpful this is the second vid I watched, today after a pain flare up I ran across your vid on how to walk with yur glutes.
HI I am Ellie: Thanks fir this video. I have severe hip pain. You have answered all my questions.
Thank you, your videos are very helpful. You're a good teacher.
I had a hip replacement in October 2020 osteoarthritis last year my other hip is bothering me sometimes I here a bone pop I know eventually I will have another hip replacement I was out for 8 weeks thanks for the video going back wards on the elliptical machine helps a lot
Hey Dave listening from South Africa Cape Town
2018 left hip replacement
2022 right hip replacement is pending due to waiting list.
Concerned because now my right knee is being affected.
Hi I also have little movement from knee to chest at the moment I have a flare up and I feel like going for the chop sometimes but I'm too scared.
Any decision made? All the best.
I was so interested to read your comments. I think try the nutrition route as I did and Qigong. A Qigong master came to the region where I live and said we shouldn't get hip replacements ! I'll try to find the link to the video for you.
@@dennistyler9852 Hi no surgery for me at this time, I am much better, walking daily, doing Qigong and I changed my diet.
@@cinders1413 Glad to hear you’ve discovered a new approach. Surgery is the last choice for most of us. All the best
Hi! Im from Rhode Island, looking forward to listening to you
Darla in arkansas If I sit when i stand it doesnt feel like i can get my leg under me to put weight on it.
Thanks!
Hey Angela, Wow! Thank you so much for being part of our community! we appreciate you.🧡

I am only 53 years old so hopefully I can ride it out for a little while give my body a break from another surgery. Hopefully your videos are going to help me
Hey Gary! We are so sorry to hear that you've had both knees replaced, we can only imagine how difficult and challenging the recovery process has been and the emotional toll it has taken on you. We are glad that you've come across our UA-cam channel and hopeful that we can help you avoid any unnecessary surgeries, injections, or medications.
Here are some resources that you might find beneficial for both your knee and hip conditions:
The "Failed Knee Replacement Recovery Program" is a comprehensive program designed to help people with treatment strategies that are effective at calming down an irritated knee, then guiding you to treat the root problem that sets up knee arthritis and continues to cause knee pain in a replaced knee joint. This program works even for a revised knee replacement. You can learn more here:

I can do all excercises except range of motion. I am bone on bone. Do I have a chance of avoiding surgery? judy
My hip pain
1
Effect my sleep if i dont do exercise. If i dont exercises for the hip the night tightness will be worse. Pain is 2-3/10 but tightness of the muscles. Even if I do exercise (recomended by physio) the hip pain is also there but less. Applying heat oil is also good.
2
Not much range of motion problem if i warm up or do daily exercises.
3
Cannot play golf or badminton or run much. Pain of hip if i do. Mainly sleep problem. Level of pain is as describe above.
4
I brisk walk 3 times a week. But not too much the hip dont like it, so I do your hip joint exercises. So I walk only about 3km instead of 5km.
Do I need a hip replacement?
having left hip done june 12

hi and thanks from Kentucky
My R hip hurts as well as my R buttocks, and the doctor says I have arthritis in my hip and I need a hip replacement. I had a fusion on my back L4 and L5 in 2020, and I don't feel that helped at all. I stopped seeing any doctor about my issues, and I'm trying to just fix things myself. Can you recommend anything specifically I can do? I totally trust you

Hello from NJ. I have pain in my groin that travels in my leg to my knee. Yes the knee is painful. Yes some arthritis. What do you think about this?
I keep getting buttock pain. I was diagnosed with hip osteoarthritis a year ago but mild now.
Ms. Sharon, research the coritsone shots, they can cause necrosis.
@@ms.sharon.7581 So happy for you!! I have been resisting the surgery. I need both hips replaced. So glad you have had a postive experience.
Carol here from Tampa, Florida.
Hi Carol! Hello from Texas! 🤠🌵
How many times at day you need to do the exercises and for how long
I was diagnosed with severe hip OA on the right side and moderate on the left side.
I have a constant left-hip pain!
Help!
Do you have any exercises for cervical stenosis?
thank you

I find walking standing or excersise i tried is absolutely impossible 😢 I have lowered back fusion 1 year ago too but lower back still causes pain in these situations

Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity.
Not sure what to do now
Hi Debbie, We are so sorry to hear that you have been dealing with hip issues and not getting clarity on what the problem is. We would need more information to provide you with the proper guidance. We offer Virtual Consultations if you are interested. Our Virtual Consultations are conducted similarly to a Zoom call, and we will send you a link that will automatically connect you with one of our doctors. This consultation will allow us to gain a better understanding of your condition, discuss your medical history, and provide personalized guidance tailored to your needs.

This will help us prepare and ensure we can address all your concerns during the session. Please refrain from sending this information before purchasing for security purposes.
After your Virtual Consultation, you will receive a recording of the session, and you will have 30 days from the date of the consultation to ask any follow-up questions regarding your session. You can email us your questions, and our doctors will get back to you at their earliest convenience.

hello from Canada-Thank You for all your help
my hip is painful its keeping me awake at night and walking too is painful from lorraine england
Which foods irritate hip arthritis?
