One of my favorite tips for those trying to complete a zone. When you are looking at your map (M by default), and you are looking at the zone you are in, you can hover your mouse over the Vista, POI, TP, or Skill point icons, and it will highlight any of those in your zone that is not hidden by the fog of war. I personally whip my house over all of them super quickly to have them shine bright for my boomer eyes.
Only one thing you missed for inventory management @Muk, levelup reward gear can't be traded, salvaged, or sold to a vendor. Might want to add a note that it's good to just destroy that gear once you out-level it.
@@Nienna_Asyare in the past most of it couldn't even be used there. Anet did just update in the past few months start updating the levelup rewards so that some (still not all) of them can be salvaged or sold to vendors. I haven't tried mystic forging them, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of them can be now.
07:01 I'm not gonna lie, you got me. I looked up all the classes, watched videos on all the classes, researched builds on all elite specializations on all the classes. And then I chose Ranger.
Back at launch. We would see lines of people, several hundreds of them, all running from event-to-event and node-to-node pewpewing everything. Yep. The Ranger was and still is the pick of choice for the bot :)
incredebly good structure, as a veteran there was nothing new, but everything I wished to know as a new player! Thank you muk for making such great guides
Also: If you get bored or frustrated leveling in between story bits or you've finished an area of the map and need just a quick boost-crafting levels your character pretty easily, I just recommend to start with cooking or your class's armor set or weapon set. So if you're a Ranger and you like your bows, you can start with Cooking, Leatherworking, or Hunstman. Or if you're a Necro and you like using staff, you can start with Cooking, Tailor or Artificer. (And of course, check out Muk's crafting vid ;P )
Actually, a quick correction- Ranger (for PvE AND WvW/PvP) uses Weaponsmith more than Huntsman. For PvE, Druid uses axes, horns, and staves, soulbeast uses (for power damage) greatsword, dagger, and axe, and (for condi damage), axe, 2 daggers, and a torch. Not saying that huntsman is a bad option, but weaponsmith is a better option imo. I'm glad I did weaponsmithing before huntsman. But definetly do leatherworking. It's more expensive to kit out 2nd best gear (exotic, orange colored, useful in most pve modes and wvw) via buying rather than crafting, with some exceptions.
seriously, I had a warrior created at release that only got to the high 30s or low 40s. I got armor crafting to 500 which made him level 64, then huntsman from 0 to 400 and it brought him to 79. and crafting is one of the easier or straightforward ways to get ascended gear, it's also a good way to make gold. I made an easy 100g from selling the items from a few crafting professions from 450-500.
Great video! Couple of minor things missed: * On the map you can mouse over Tasks, Waypoints, POI, Vistas to highlight them in the zone (if they are visible.) Might have to pan/zoom out. * On the map there is an eye icon used to show/hide icons on the map. e.g. Handy to turn everything off except the bank to make locating it easier the first time you are in a new location. * An orange circle is a dynamic group event. One of THE best features in GW2! * Equipped Gear in each slot can be double clicked on to set the first **Unused Upgrade Slot** to add stats to gear. Or right click on the item and select Customize in inventory or equipped. * You can mouse over the attributes for a tooltip description of what they do.
A quick additional note: the community in this game is incredibly supportive. If you're stuck or lost, there's a good chance someone on the map will be willing to help. If you have a question about an item, there's a wiki command in game "/wiki item name" that will pull up your browser and take you to the gw2 wiki, with that item automatically set as the search. If you control click the item, it will put the item name into chat for you.
I have a note to add about the starter zones. New players only get access to other races starter zones if they have paid for the game. Free to play accounts do not get access to those areas automatically. Aside from that, excellent guide. I didn't know auto-loot was there from the start. I thought it was only unlocked through a Central Tyria mastery.
Thank you for making the best GW2 content on youtube and twitch! I as a new player find it hard to get into mmos after years away. I feel like the content is so un approachable with catch up. But you my friend have helped me find new found love for GW2, it will be my MMO for 2022!
Okay buddy listen here! Im a new player and watched your previous video where you told Doug to go to bed, laughed and thought about how funny it would be if it was my name. Another great video from Mukluk! One thing I think should be added is the importance of keybinds and getting an optimal setup going early, because it takes time to relearn bad habits later, when you need better keybinds to have optimal playstyle. Such as replacing the keybinds for the "A" and "D" keys to strafe right and left, instead of turning your character, which I think should be done with your mouse. Remapping the "F-key" skills to something easier to reach on your keyboard is also helpful. It would be interesting and helpful if optimal keybinds were discussed by many top players, and a suggested setup were created, that new players could try out and adjust to their own personal tastes, but having keybinds better than the default would greatly help new players from going through the pain of relearning better keybinds later on when they need to for harder content.
I remapped dodge and weapon swap to mouse 4/5, heal to q and elite to e. 7,8,9 are on z,x,c instead. That keeps all the main things needed within reach.
And if your a hardcore keyboard pianist it might be a good idea to look into usb plug in reprogramable left handed short keypad or even a plug in usb foot pedal or joystick with lots of rebinds. I can't even tell you how many times i was saved by stomping my foot to dodge while i smoke a bowl, drink, or eat, able to get a few extra seconds so i can just mount up and go out of aggro.
I'm not very into lategame (just got the gryphon lol) but i like to be around low level zones looking for new players to help them, sometimes i recommend this video because is just a perfect beginning guide, keep up the nice work mate
Thanks for the video. I decided to buy all the expansions at once and boosted my characters to 80. I was completely lost. So now im going to start over and take it slow. Hopefully by the time i level this new character i will understand the game more to use my three other level 80s.
Checked out a number of guides, this is the first one that mentioned the deposit crafting material button, ty! Won't get me the time I wasted back but at least I can stop deleting items when my inventory gets full without me knowing now.
Very important for new players: character size. The hitbox and movement speed is the same for all races, but Norn and Charr will feel sluggish for a new player. Human, Sylvari or specially Asura feel much faster and nimble to run and jump around, saving a lot of frustration for a new player.
@@Wisznuification I understand your comment about using an Asura for jumping puzzles, although a human or sylvari (specially ones that are created at minimum height) will work just as well, but the part where you added the suggestion that this Asura be a Thief, leveled to 80, and use the Daredevil elite specialization makes no sense to me??? What does being a Thief/Daredevil and at level 80 have to do with Jumping Puzzles? If you are going to suggest a specific class that helps on Jumping Puzzles, it has to be a Mesmer with the Portal skill.
@@MrAlexDeidara no it just a taste thing. If you like a big charakter you can play charr and norn but if you like small charakters then you can play sylvari and asura.
No class is bad, just find one that vibes with your play style ( ovo)b Don’t be afraid to not commit and play around with other class types; sometimes you’ll find that the concept of one doesn’t actually work with you, or that one class might actually be more fun than you thought the longer you play (or the higher level you are, starting is always slow). I.e I was never a warrior/heavy armor type of person (speed/thief all the way), but I actually recently started making a warrior my main :D
2 notes from fellow Vet: AOE Auto-loot is tied to a Mastery, you can check mark it, but it won't work until you have said Mastery. I have an alt account I'm playing from scratch and wow is it annoying not to Auto-loot yet! And just because new players might like this feature Featured a bit more: Starter Zone Waypoints are enabled not just to play an alternate place for fun, but so you can play with your friends who chose a different race And so you can do Dailies in multiple regions from the start, like say "View and Ascalon Vista" without a half hour or more of walking. Great vid, love the Elite descriptions! :)
No, not that auto loot. Autoloot mastery: loots anything in area when you do killing blow Autoloot checkbox: Automatically loots an item after you press "f" on the corpse WITHOUT the confirmation window appearing (which would then have you click each item individually) (Glad you liked the elites :D )
Thanks Muk, enjoy your style, you always entertain greatly, and efficiently, and mostly correctly :) Possible confusion point: Transmutation charge: 'saving them' doesn't mean leave them in your inventory to take up space - you can consume it without actually using it up, it becomes an unused transmutation charge in the transmute window that you are yet to actually use. I saw you consume one but (to me at least), you didn't spell out that you were 'saving it' by 'consuming it'. I've watched quite a few new player vids lately and I see people often leave transmutation charges unconsumed, as well as dyes, thinking they have to save them til they want to use them. Consume all transmutation charges, (when you do, it will still be there waiting for you), and consume all dyes (unless its a valuable one you want to sell). Once you consume a dye, the colour is available to all your stuff, forever. If you ever played BDO or probably most every other MMO, you'll know those games are much stingier with dyes than GW2, which is super-generous. (I couldn't believe that BDO actually made me 'rent' dyes non-permanently, bastards :)) I personally don't mind leaving 'double-tap to evade on'. I know its not a popular opinion, but it works for me. It has made me less likely to click when I didn't want to :) Its easy to evade in the direction I want, since I'm left-handed and I run out of easy to reach keys for things otherwise. I do like having a dedicated key for it as well though, because sometimes the double-tap isn't fast enough. Most of the time it is though, and its a reflex I learned in other games. Have done a ton of jp's and if I made a mistake, it only made me better at intentional clicking :) I make fewer and fewer such mistakes because of it. I know just saying it makes some people cry, if so, sorry for your discomfort. Lastly, something I didn't know for way too long when I started playing is that every crafting station has a bank you can use, even if you haven't unlocked the craft.
One other minor thing about the heart completion icons that appear in the bottom right side of the screen and above the mini map when completed. As well as a few other occasions. If you left click on the icon it opens up a window that congrats you on completing the heart, however if you right click on the icon you will dismiss the icon right away, you will still get what you earned, it just stops you from clicking twice. Once to open it and a second time to close it. Trust me the novelty wears off after 20+ heart completions. (For me anyway.) That being said welcome to all the new players.
This is just a awesome editing by Noxxi and that female Norn guardian going "Mmmh!".... wait a Norn female Guardian? did Mukluk open his notepad mid filming and his reflection got so strong that Mukluk blinded himself by the reflection and started playing other races than Asura? Nice! So ask all the Chronomancers ingame to send this video back to 2019 when i started playing to give me better start! Great Video as always, lets go strong into 2022 with all the current and new players!
Only thing I might add is that you can access your bank from a crafting station because there’s one in every starting zone - saves a new player heading to a city when they don’t need to (bag space being at a premium when you start)
1 thing i would add, what many forget to mention is toggle action camera options in control setup, some people find that playstyle more suitable what is very hidden but chances everyting on gameplaywise
a couple missed information for new accounts: the trading post or the market where you buy things from another player will be unavailable until a certain time period has passed. it's 48 hours to 72hours from the time of purchase of the game. and the free to play version doesn't get access to trading post except for buying very few specific player-sold-items.
I’m mad at myself for not giving this game the opportunity it truly deserved. After many attempts of trying to get into gw2 while FFXIV was my main mmo.. it finally clicked this last month. This game is absolutely amazing. The community is definitely much more outgoing and friendly. I’m loving it. Just need some friends 😭😂
Love the guide and your energy the class really sold it for me , necromancer is always my top favourite and to be able to use guns in other class is also very fun.
Awesome video! thanks, like every mmorpg guild wars 2 can be overwhelming at the beginning, especially for me, who never played an mmorpg before. Starting now, hope i can utilize your tips :-)
I mentioned this in the previous version of this video but I might as well here too lol New players in settings: auto loot won’t be available until you reach max level (80) on your first character and progress a few mastery tracks
I have 2200 hours played. Why did I watch this? Would definitely give this video to my friends that wanted to try Guild Wars 2. If they didn't all go to Final Fantasy!!
PVE dailies. Are available at very low levels (10 or lower?), there are always at least 3 PVE achievements doable at your highest level toon and give 2 gold, nice sum for a new player for 30 minutes of gameplay. To access list check daily category in achievement tab in hero panel (H by default). Exotic gear. Some popular exotic stat lines got cheaper "named" variant with exactly same stats for fraction of trading post price. For example berserkers heavy armor has Devona's variant. Full Devona's set will be cheaper at trading post than just chest piece of berserker.
Thanks for this vid, I've played GW1 since the beginning, but only played GW2 right after it came out, and only for a couple hours max due to my comp being garbage, then again a few years later when I got a better system, also only for a couple weeks max, well the new xpac dropped apparently a month ago, and I have 2x lv80 boosts waiting for me, not including a 3rd from new xpac (I assume it gives u another boost). Also have 7 birthday gifts, some other rando stuff from before X xpac released, and a plain lv63 woorior, so I'm hella hyped to be able to actually start playing the game legitimately! Also idk what most of the stuff I got from gifts and such are sooooo I'ma just save em I guess
OMG ALT LEFT CLICK; i resigned myself to the fact there was no personal waypoints in this game until this video :D. if nothing else thanks for that realisation...
I would add; don't sell stuff to the in game merchants if you can also sell it on the TP. I played for like a month before I found out there's way more profit to be had at the TP 🙈😵💫🤯 Oh and maybe a reminder not to forget to select stats when you get stat selectable gear (and maybe a recommendation to select Berserker stats)! I remember running around and being like "Why does this new higher level weapon suck? This game is so weird". Aaaw man haha 😂
Contains the same minor mistake as last year: New players won't be able to turn on autoloot. It's locked behind a mastery. "AoE loot on interact" is the best option they get. Other than that, solid video as always!
I answered this same question 20 times on the last video and 3 times so far on this one lol No, not that auto loot. Autoloot mastery: loots anything in area when you do killing blow Autoloot checkbox: Automatically loots an item after you press "f" on the corpse WITHOUT the confirmation window appearing (which would then have you click each item individually)
@@MuklukUA-cam Sorry, I stand corrected! The mastery actually does give you a checkbox "Autoloot: Quick Interact", which is not the "Autoloot: Autopickup" you recommend in your video. I incorrectly assumed both those checkboxes were locked behind the mastery.
Good guide, there are things that differ depending on if your playing F2P or if you bought the game/expansions. F2P cannot interact with HP's until some arbitrary something is met. F2P players cannot purchase gems, can only buy materials from marketplace, can only have TWO characters max. NO log in rewards. And cannot purchase ascended gear recipe's (but can acquire). Also no map chat. For as discouraging as all that may sound, you'd be surprised at what you do have available.
OMG, I had no idea there is something like a bank for your materials. I was so frustrated when my inventory was constantly full because there is like bilions of mats in this game and I sold many of them because my normal bank was also full, arrrgrhh!
Thanks for this video, just started in the game and this really helped to clarify a few things! I'm playing from Asia at around 200ms - what ya think - Ranger or Necromancer will be an easier play?
Both can have very relaxing playstyles in open world. The Ranger if you get a tanky pet like a bear to hide behind, and the necro if you stay behind your summoned minions. This of course is for open world, not for pvp, wvw, or end-game stuff.
No, not that auto loot. Autoloot mastery: loots anything in area when you do killing blow Autoloot checkbox: Automatically loots an item after you press "f" on the corpse WITHOUT the confirmation window appearing (which would then have you click each item individually)
I recently made it to level 80 and I spent the entire time underequipped and my build was nonsense and I played nearly all of it solo but I guess now is a good time to learn

*returns to game after 8years and remembers nothing... Looks at his lvl 80 character... and remembers nothing.. Starts new* :D
I swear your voice fits your character perfectly. It's like you found the perfect voice over for him. haha Amazing!
muk doing anet's work again. better get a raise
DAMN IT, why am I learning about personal waypoints from a new player guide! I already have a legendary!
a couple missed information for new accounts: the trading post or the market where you buy things from another player will be unavailable until a certain time period has passed. it's 48 hours to 72hours from the time of purchase of the game. and the free to play version doesn't get access to trading post except for buying very few specific player-sold-items.
You're welcome to join our discord which has a gw2 section if you wish! Link in description if you fancy it
Love the guide and your energy the class really sold it for me , necromancer is always my top favourite and to be able to use guns in other class is also very fun.
Yes, even veterans need this video
This video is amazing. 11/10 for new players. Well played Muk
Awesome video! thanks, like every mmorpg guild wars 2 can be overwhelming at the beginning, especially for me, who never played an mmorpg before. Starting now, hope i can utilize your tips :-)
This was very insightful and pretty funny as well, thanks for the video Mukluk
Almost 3 months/400 hrs into the game and I've decided now is a good time to watch this video..
Hay man this video helps a lot, I just got the game and started journey.
I mentioned this in the previous version of this video but I might as well here too lol
New players in settings: auto loot won’t be available until you reach max level (80) on your first character and progress a few mastery tracks
Not my stomach turning over at 0:25 even though I'm watching this at 4pm and not 2am KJGNFJKGD
"Guardian, aka the blue warrior" 🤣🤣🤣 &"Holosmith.... It's .. green lantern he makes stuff out of light and beats you with it" earned you a sub lol
LMAO the Ace Ventura soulbeat clip. Love those movies.
I wish you and your lovely family a merry christmas and relaxing holidays :)
this vid is great, even if I dont get into gw2 Im glad i watched!
I cannot catblobvibrate here, as much as I want to.
I have 2200 hours played. Why did I watch this?
Would definitely give this video to my friends that wanted to try Guild Wars 2. If they didn't all go to Final Fantasy!!
Same, haha, showing my friends a way better MMO than FF14
i wish i had watched this when i started a week ago, but this vid is so helpful! thank you!
I’ll have you know it’s 4am. You had me spooked
Merry Christmas Muk and you too, Noxxi
Also idk what most of the stuff I got from gifts and such are sooooo I'ma just save em I guess
awesome video! super funny and informative
Great video Muk, and great editing by Noxxi! This is a great guide, and all the jokes hit pretty well! Kudos to you Muk & Noxxi.
[0:20] I may not be a James but it is indeed 2am and the sudden call out sent me xD
Omg!!! Burst out laughing when you said "now that you've chosen ranger".
Great job, beautifully edited
As always, great guide. It makes me want to start a new character right now :)
Thanks. You helped me decide whether to try the game.
I like your sense of humor sir!
This is amazing, wished I had this before I started... 7 years ago
OMG ALT LEFT CLICK; i resigned myself to the fact there was no personal waypoints in this game until this video :D. if nothing else thanks for that realisation...
I would add; don't sell stuff to the in game merchants if you can also sell it on the TP. I played for like a month before I found out there's way more profit to be had at the TP 🙈😵💫🤯
Oh and maybe a reminder not to forget to select stats when you get stat selectable gear (and maybe a recommendation to select Berserker stats)! I remember running around and being like "Why does this new higher level weapon suck? This game is so weird". Aaaw man haha 😂
This is sooooo helpful, thank you!!
Thank you. You gained a new subscriber 😉
It is 1:57 am when you said this at 0:20 and I have work tomorrow … you right
Great video, but I would love to see you cover some milestones, ie when/how to get a mount, a little about dungeons, etc.
This is legitly entertain bruhh what a nice content
“But if you make him mad, he sets you on fire. 20 times.”
On point. 🤣
Contains the same minor mistake as last year: New players won't be able to turn on autoloot. It's locked behind a mastery. "AoE loot on interact" is the best option they get. Other than that, solid video as always!
I answered this same question 20 times on the last video and 3 times so far on this one lol
No, not that auto loot.
Autoloot mastery: loots anything in area when you do killing blow
Autoloot checkbox: Automatically loots an item after you press "f" on the corpse WITHOUT the confirmation window appearing (which would then have you click each item individually)
I’ve been playing since just after beta and I always struggle with “Start from Level 1” or “Pick up from 1 of my 10 level 80’s” lol
You forgot one...
• Become a streemer if you want an endless supply of zucchini.
OMG, I had no idea there is something like a bank for your materials. I was so frustrated when my inventory was constantly full because there is like bilions of mats in this game and I sold many of them because my normal bank was also full, arrrgrhh!
I lost you at "so now that you all chosen Ranger". Where mukanist O.o
@@MuklukUA-cam Thanks for the quick reply! I'll try them both out :D
i have almost 3k hours sunk into this game... of course i watched everything, including the ads lol.
Really informative i might try this game
Autoloot is only available once u unlock the mastery btw. Small detail. (Or the special WvW thingy in WvW)
No, not that auto loot.
Autoloot mastery: loots anything in area when you do killing blow
Autoloot checkbox: Automatically loots an item after you press "f" on the corpse WITHOUT the confirmation window appearing (which would then have you click each item individually)
That's for the refresh, I haven't played gw2 in 2 years and gw in about 3
I recently made it to level 80 and I spent the entire time underequipped and my build was nonsense and I played nearly all of it solo but I guess now is a good time to learn
Ty, great video!
Hey Muk, when viewing a vista how do you skip the cinematic without clicking on the button at the lower right corner? Is there anything else other than Esc?
I use the escape key I believe! Honestly it's muscle memory at this point after so long
Good video! Mate
Nice Armor ,which skins are that ?
thank you for the guide!!
Very funny ! I m at 3;36 yet i dont care if its will be time of waste afterwards xD
