Small warning for people regarding ascended WvW (and I think PvP) armor.
They are indeed stat selectable and there is also a recipe to change the stats.
However, changing the stats through the recipe means changing the item itself.
Since ascended armor in wvw (and I think PvP as well, please someone confirm) are already also a precursor for Legendary armor, changing the item will break it's precursor status permanently.
So, choose wisely and remember that you need to stick with those stats if you want to maintain the item's potential to upgrade to Legendary.
(I am talking about stat CHANGE. Say you picked Assassin's, but decide you actually want Berserker. Using the recipe makes it Zojja's in that case and no longer Mist Forged - as in my wvw example. This does NOT apply to transmuting, changing the looks.)

I was about to start farming Winterberries again for a stat-selectable ascended back item but I really had enough of doing that after getting all three types of waterbreathers. This video made me realize I had more than enough stuff to Mystic Forge the ascended quiver back item much to my relief :)

A big exception to the berserker/viper/harrier rule is wvw where you usually want more survivability. This means the default stats in wvw builds are usually marauders for power, minstrels for healing, and trailblazers/dire for condi.
I personally use Marauder (Svaard's) over Berserker a lot outside of WvW as well -- Running fractals, bounties & metas with the extra survivability on a Mesmer means your glass cannon doesn't instantly shatter if you miss a dodge roll. It does mean you won't be on top of the DPS, but outside of strikes/raids you rarely have a dedicated HFB/Druid to count on, so I like to bring the survival insurance myself.
@@odw32 marauder works on some decent dps builds as well or characters where you aren’t on top of dps list anyway (looking at you, bannerslave)

Awesome informative video, Muk! I had a lot of gold saved up even after getting the griffon, so I crafted all of my gear (even bought time-gated mats because YOLO) then stat-swapped to Viper’s for my condi Mirage (sorry to disappoint ya, Muk, but I main a Mesmer now). This was super expensive, but at least I was able to easily farm trinkets from the LWS3 maps.
trying to craft Ascended gear is a time-consuming process, so be prepared to have patience when doing this.

I luv this advice about the mystic forge.
If your looking for ascended weapons that are not time gated, every class has a specialization collection achievement which awards you with a ascended weapon. It may be a grind but it's achievable in one play session. I would also recommend new players complete daily fractals, its the simplest way to get rings amulet and trinket while getting random ascended drops in the process. Once you familiarize with that system look into crafting grandmaster marks and trade them and fractal relics (resources youve farmed in fractals) for stat selectable armor or weps
Thank you for the video. I stopped playing after Living World Season 1, right around when they implemented tons of anti farming mechanics. The game just felt like it was punishing me for playing. Jumping back in now YEARS later and my characters gear is hot garbage and I don't know how anything works anymore. The guide you recommended will be very helpful. Thank you again!

i like to buy all my accessories from WvW; it's got lower cost of laurels compared to the laurel merchant in LA, but you have to pay with some WvW currency, but not too difficult to get.

bloodstone fen has trinkets which you can reset many times
Tequatle is my favorite for ascended weapons. From max 10 runs i got 3 ascended weapons.
muk, what do you think is the more efficient way when it comes to Armor and Weapons?
access/trinkets are easiest in LWS maps/currencies imo.
Strikes IMO, there is no luck involved, just do a bunch of strikes, get shards, buy the thing you need.
There are significant exceptions to the glass cannon berserker/viper/harrier section, to the point that I don't think it can really be a rule or recommendation without their mention. WvW doesn't really use those, and for any serious open world stuff, particularly if you're doing open world stuff that isn't super populated - catching up on something, having to do somewhat more challenging stuff alone - you're much more likely to want way more sustain and tank. At the very least Marauder's for power, and likely Trailblazer for condi. Celestial gear is also really good for a lot of open world builds. If you're looking to focus on group content, then sure, get the glass cannon stuff. But particularly in open world, you have to provide your own buffs and healing if you aren't doing a popular meta, and often even if you are. Don't fall into the trap of going full glass cannon if you don't need to just because guides and content creators of GW2 for some reason still absolutely insist on it.
How can you join strike teams or raids? Is there a queued up system like WvW or PvP?
THERE IT IS! THERE IT IS! OH MY GOD! Such perfect timing! I just made a lvl 80 ranger last night and wanted to gear it for soulbeast and druid. Muk seems to always have a video guide ready when I need it most.

@@renno2679 not really, just find a train for hot or pof (usually the comm doing hot does pof right after) and you can get them done in a few hours

1:23 'Ascended gear is roughly a 10% or so increase in stats from Exotic gear.' Isn't it more correct to say it's *just 5%* ?
or Marauders gear if you wanna power build without dying all the time.

got 4 ascended rings But only 1 of them is useful (3 have condi dmg on them which i dont need)
whats the best thing to do with those? ascended salvage kit?
my main direction is to focus on this one toon cos i dont think i have time for multiple mains,
saving up for later/ other builds is okay but not first priority.
it seems most effective for me to get my rings/amu with laurel+ badge of honor route,
what about weapons? all i could find were the ones that still require Grandmaster marks
(i dont have 500 craftings) is 500 crafting necessary? (other than drop loots)

You could go for the collection weapons, that's how I got my first ascended staff. And yes I usually salvage ascended stuff I don't need.

Something I think really would have added that cherrie on top to this video is - Your opinion on what to chase right after you hit 80 - like Barrie farm if you have it. If you have the gold, the “vial of salt” is an ez necklace. - dragon fall with a good commander is amazing for the time spent / gold gain / mist mote farm. If you have sky scale and taco, runing the “mistmote” farming path is almost better then winter barrie farm. - In my opinion- getting to doing T4 fractals ( and CM when you learn them ) is one of the best thing you can do for account as a whole.
Like I would offer if your just starting fractals and need to start stacking Agony resistant. I would do winter berries farming / a Vial of salt / petrified wood farm. You can in attune one of the rings of ice and that will allow you to two slot rings of ice ( this will need to be swapped for another ring at higher levers ) - this will allow you to get in to door to fractals and start your way through the Tires.

for Caladbolg.. I need a visioncrystal and after some hours googling and asking questions to randoms... it takes ALOT of efford to get one.. so its basically not that easy.
Blood stone trinkets, rings and the backpack is a must for any new player as you can stat swap them.
I did not know that! Are they much harder to obtain then bitter frost frontiers ascended stuff ?
@@datmanbrooksiehd875 not difficult but more time consuming. If you get the home instance node and the one that gives you mats each day its easier but will still take time to get all the bloodstone needed

I am trying to get a full ascendet gear for my solo world build and all of the trinkets are called "marauder" as the stats they provide, but I can't finde any of those marauder trinkets in any of the methods you mentioned.
Same with the main gear, called Svaadi. I didn't find it anywhere. I am missing something?
Selectable ascended trinkets has marauders. LW3 Berries is the easiest one to get IMO.
Svaadi has marauders stats and only for ascended armors
I like using sinister for condi weapons, but it's only 3 stats so vipers is probably better.
Can you only get the chest from world bosses once per day? As in does it only have a chance to drop on your first completion? Or can you still get it upon multiple completions?
First kill of each boss each day I believe.
Ive Got a quick question: some of the ascended gear available at merchants doesnt have Infusion slots but the other Kind that can increase karma gain etc.
Are those worth getting or should i go for the Infusion slots for the agony res?
Karma gain etc is found on amulet/neck item. That is called an "enrichment". Amulets do not have infusion sockets.

I mean.. heck at that point I would probably work on legendary armor so you can have all remaining sets available.

thing about crafting weapons. Its best to craft odd stat combination of weapons, because its sometimes cheaper, you can then change stats into what you want in mystic toilet. But be aware that any weapons and armor you throw there will destroy em and you will be given new weapon or armor, so remove your infusions etc before doing that
One thing not covered that is a small detail is that the pvp ascended jewelry shares its properties with the ascended jewelry from bloodstone fen, bloodstone fen also has a reset item

Legendary trinkets display that by default. Since recording this they've added the ability to turn that off if you wish.

I can't believe how cheap are the dailies right now!! A bolt of damask used to be 8g now is ~1.7g! Even Buying dailies is cheaper than crafting!
I find a missing info in the article, how much time I will invest in each style of gearing.
You will need about 100 gold or something around this
Plus you will need to craft something that has a daily limit of crafting which you may need around 5 of them so crafting an armur can take you around 4-7 days depending on your patience
@@Yusufsanad you can do the slow way to craft the daily material or just buy the mats
So more time spent = less gold spent
This applies in the fractals/pvp methods
Fractals are usualy a daily 30 min run if you got a good group and the
drops depend on your luck in all cases either world bosses for armor/weapons or fractals (more frequant) for everything
Mystic forge is uhh instant xD
in a normal gear grinder i just have to do the current content to get new gear. and i only really need it if i want to do instances.
this is a lot of work with very little chance of success

Hey muk I think the stats different between ascended and exotic is only 5% not 10%
It's possible my math included ascended food, I'll have to check again. In any case my goal there was to make fresh 80s not feel like they "had no chance" next to more geared folks, hopefully that translated well.
iirc the stat difference is 5% but in practise it results in a 10% dps loss.
Word of warning for anyone doing specialization achievements for weapons these days, don't do heart of thorns ones. HoT specialisation collections require more mystic coins than it's worth unless you REALLY want the skin.
Path of fire however are cheap and only require 1 coin.
If you can't do any path of fire spec collections for a weapon then your best bet is to craft or do the returner achievements, 4 will get you an ascended weapon chest.

@@dymasych6931 There's an event going on currently that is apparently permanent where they're re-giving out all of living world season 3 and 4. Everytime they do they add an achievement tab for the relevant map called "Return To" in side stories. Completing them is super fast and easy esp with PoF mounts, and the easiest way to get Ascended trinkets of any stat type in the game.

Play through the story and explore. Take things slow and don't rush it.
Yeah I got a tip. If you find you're dying a lot try equipping a shield.
Shields let you use your 5th ability on your skill bar to block all incoming damage for about 5 seconds. Or maybe it was 4 seconds.
Also shields give you more amour value. Armour value works like this. The more you have the less damage you take.
Lastly here is on more tip. Don't worry if you're wearing mostly scale mail, or chain mail amour.
chain mail, scale mail and plate mail are all classed as heavy armor and give the same stats. Each one just looks different.

It is true that you will be a minor disadvantage (otherwise there would be no point to the gear upgrade) in WvW but it is a few percent, like 5-10% of stats maybe. And that is only for WvW, in PvP everyone is equalized.

It's the medium armor legendary gloves from raids, they grow the spikes when you are in combat

Try farming berries or petrifying wood if you got the s3 maps (it rests every 22ish hours for every charecter) so the more charecters yoh farm with the lesser the time

Gear isn’t earnt via gameplay progression in gw2, it’s just grinded for.
Question can i make a ascended and give it to another character in my account ?
Most ascended items are bind to account (as opposed to bind to character) which means you can almost always trade ascended gear through your bank to other characters.

I haven't found a full guide for a F2P like me to get those ascended gears. Kinda getting confused from those other videos saying this and that. I've started this December and just playing SW and PVP for now while trying to earn money for the expansion. I wish to see a real guide to how I can get ascended as a F2P dedicated items, materials and things that a F2P has access.
I'm working towards ascended gear through wvw rn and it's sooo damn slow. The grandmaster mark system just feels so inefficient to me.
You can craft the grandmasters Mark's to speed up the process
I finally got fully ascended geared last year and I'm happy with it. Fractals and Leather working is how I got it.

I stopped playing the game after I hit level 80 with a couple of characters. Never had ascended gear only bought exotic. I focused on the story and exploration because gearing and grinding is too much for me.
Most of the ascended gear you get after farming a shit tons of mats and leveling your crafting and can only be crafted. How do I even know what stats I need when this game has dozens of combinations. It's too overly complicated for no reason.
Hopefully in the future they implemented a normal system to get ascended like other games. As it is currently it pushes people away.

its super easy get the mats to craft ascended gear, it just take some time. you can also do low tier fractals, and gear ur toon up that way. or do raids in exotic gear. or farm the living story maps
but if you dont like farming, then mmo is not for you. i mean. its ment for you to play only that game for years, everyday and never stop. set your own goals, short term and long term, read up what needs to be done to get them. most are super easy
once you get used to fractals and raids and wvw and pvp and crafting, all have guides. you really get too many asc items. i have salvage over 300+ items
you can do the basic collection for weapons, and armor, and if u get an asc gear box, you can just stat swap it to another stat
How do you know what stats you need in any other game? You check what the stats do or check what you need for your build. Being able to balance your stats more than just picking one of 3 options is not a con, it's a pro, you can tailor gear to your needs and playstyle, you can add more survivability and sacrifice some healing for WvW for example. And again, you can just pick Berserker / Viper / Harrier depending on your role if you don't want to think too much about it.
i'm so lost
- Exotic to Ascended difference is 5 %, not 10 % or so.
- The "stats" part isn't exactly correct in the sense that people should aim for meta builds to save them from the hassle of reacquiring or stat-swapping gear.
- Fractals are bad for getting ascended items because it requires you to already have ascended items to get regular drops. Even with regular ring drops, you are very unlikely to get useful stats, since it only really has berserker stats.
- Crafting grandmaster marks to buy ascended items from the fractal vendor is not really worth it.
6%. It's a 10% improvement step, as relative to the white common gear being 100%.
ahah i killed a full legendary once with my thief in 1v1 in wvw..... kept teleporting and i tried to get away.... he probably got tunel vision chasing me and didnt see his healt go down
Really do love this game but what kills it for me is end game gearing. It's stupidly easy to get decent gear and then nothing to do after it :/ I really hope GW3 has a more interesting endgame.
That's GW2 for ya! No powercreep, it stopped at Ascended. Unlike other dead MMOs where your old gear becomes useless once a new update expansion is released.

this isnt the game for you. theres plenty to do when you get decent gear. achivements, mounts masteries etc.

A good amount of people still play it actually from what I can tell. I just started playing it again the other day, and it's one of the more populated MMOs I've ever played. Rarely have I been somewhere and not had often at least a couple other people there with me. Random low level areas, cities, there's always people around. No clue what the actual population of the game is, but from what I've seen it's far from dead.

WHat pisses me off is that the ONE class i have interest in the Death Knight ( or is called the Reaper?) is only unlocked at lvl 80.+...
So i have to drag it out with a class i don't want, to finaly have the class i want for 80 fucking levels...
They could have put that at like lvl 30-40...
For once i would like one of those "Boost" like wow to get insta lvl 80 and be done with it...
If you purchased the expansions (which is required to play reaper) you get one of those boosts along with some other included goodies.

I hit 80 on 4 out of 5 of my character slots and have no clue what most of what you are talking about is. There is no way a person who has only made the journey once is gonna be able to follow your video.....
