    Any chance that the XF-AVC firmware update will add a H265 codec option at half the bitrate for same quality and UA-cam compatible and with HDR HLG even at 4K60p?

    Well done Canon for naming this XF 400/405, as it is a perfect successor to XF 300/305.

      I agree Mihael 100%. This is a great successor. Yes it does not have the independent rings for zoom/focus/iris, but this is not really a big deal. Once I set my iris, i never change it during a concert. Zoom - you can get a Varizoom controller to do nice zooms, and because of the Dual Pixel AF you don't have to worry about focus issues. And UHD 60P is FANTASTIC! Yes, you do give up color sampling, only 4:2:0 8-bit instead of 4:2:2 8-bit in UHD mode, but from what i've seen from reviewers, the 4:2:0 8-bit codec is very well implemented by Canon. It's also on the more expensive C200 camera, and nobody ever complained about banding issues on blue skies. Once you compress to UA-cam you lose more information anyway. You get so much better low light - 1" vs 1/3", and that's huge for me, I film in dark venues all the time. This will make my productions even bettter. I won't have to use noise reduction anymore.

      Completely disagree, these are successors of the XA line. No waveform monitors, no vectorscopes, no configurable profiles, the EVF is quite mediocre vs the Sony huge EVFs. If you've ever had an XF200 in your hands, you can see that these are not in that pro category, unfortunately. I am not sure, if Canon is ever making cameras like the XF200/XF300.

    is this 4k, Bit Depth: 8 bit @ 3840x2160. ...good enough ? how is this compared with other 4k camcorders. Is it , 10 bit @1920x1080 (full HD) better ? I temp to believe that 4k images are better but, is this difference mean Full HD images have better clarity and colour ? or 4k is all about frame size ?

      Actually, the lack of any customizable profile might be a major deal breaker. The XC400 has no profiles at all. The XF400 has only three Looks, as Canon call them: Standard, Wide DR and Monochrome; that's all. The competitor Sony Z90/NX80/AX700 cameras all have extensively configurable S-Log profiles including the top-notch S-Log3. It's really sad that at last Canon made a great SD-card 4K camera with tilting EVF, reversible 3.5" screen, and crippled it with not adding profiles.

    Have you noticed at 2:15 the operator used both of his hands to execute touch operations? This is hilarious, in a working environment I rarely have the luxury to use both hands for touch screen. I am not really sure that these flimsy plastic side protruding touch screens are really the optimal tools to operate a camera like this. Maybe Sony's joystick oriented approach on the Z90 works better in practice?

    As a C100 mark 1 owner I have been wanting 4K and the better auto focus. The C200 seems to be the camera for me - however the price is prohibitive. How would this camera be compared to a c100?

      Dan M Unless you're going to be happy with a 1" sensor and all the attendant side effects, you won't like this camera compared with your C100. Seriously. Canon won't market this at wedding, events or higher end t.v. production, it is for cinema verite, gritty doco work, news gathering.

      i know what you mean about 4k but out of the 60 weddings ive done this year everysingle one has been delivered on bluray and a few on dvd which means 4k really didnt matter, we use c100 mark 2's (for my employees) and i use a c300 i picked up last year and the only time i use 4k is for our music videos and ill use it for short film were doing this winter, camcorders are fine because they have zoom everything is ment to be

      full auto, just turn it and start shooting but if you want a good picture in low light this is not going to do it for it for you, and if your doing anything professional some day then you might want to stear clear, look when u first get it just shoot in 4k at 30p in low light and look at it on your tele. then decide or call b&h and talk to them they have some pretty smart lads over their good luck, I know it can get frustrating your truly nolan

    I'm a novice, why this over a mirrorless. I am really struggling with the advantage of camcorder at this price point?

    • @krisak5645
      @krisak5645 6 років тому +1

      Don't get sucked into the either/or thinking. They're different tools designed with different sets of priorities, and one will never be a completely satisfactory substitute for the other. For instance, having a fixed parfocal power zoom allows you to very quickly frame up a shot, and move on. Unlimited runtime. No overheating. Of course, you also give up access to fast lenses if you really need the shallow focus (or whatever), but that's where the tradeoffs come in. As for price, a mirrorless that's got 4K/60P, outfitted with a comprable zoom & XLR interface, would probably cost about as much.

    • @mondotv4216
      @mondotv4216 6 років тому +2

      Plus all video cameras are mirrorless - hence the electronic viewfinders and LCD screens. It's just a different form factor with proper audio input and pre-amps etc. You get a mirrorless hybrid camera if you need to shoot stills and video, or if you desire a full frame or super 35mm shallow depth of field on a budget. You can also get an SLR for the same purpose but most aren't as video centric.

      Not everybody has the leisure of being able to shoot with DSLRs where you have to frequently swap out lenses and search for focus. This type of set up makes more sense for somebody that works in broadcast/journalism, documentary, sports, action sports, vlogging, etc... Canon has not updated their professional line of camcorders since 2012, so this makes perfect sense. The people that complain the most about Canon are coincidentally the people who own their glass or EF mount lenses. Just stop for a moment and think about somebody other than yourself.

    • @obikenobi1906
      @obikenobi1906 6 років тому +5

      I disagree. I think these type of cameras have there place for people who just neet to point and shoot. I work mostly in TV and shoot a ton of reality and doc - primetime and 'fish and chip'. For fast turnaround action based shows we use a heap of these types of camera's by Sony and Canon. Point and shoot; if the camera falls in a river, gets wasted by dust, dropped of a balcony and damaged just grab another.

    • @asafblasbergvideographer
      @asafblasbergvideographer 6 років тому +6

      I also disagree. I've been doing ENG all my life. The Canon XF300 is a great camera. The Canon colors are beautiful, natural and gorgeous. And a proper zoom lens is required for my work.

    • @mattwilson917

      There was a void but it has been filled by Panasonic and Sony. I sold my XF300 and upgraded to Panasonic 4k cameras. They were way behind everyone else. This camera doesn't offer anything the others don't. This would have been nice 2 years ago. Now it is an afterthought in my mind.

      That's interesting - I haven't seen any reviews yet that claim this is a wide dynamic range sensor? It's a 1" sensor and I'd be very surprised if the DR was good. The fact that it has wide gamut profile doesn't mean the sensor can deliver a wide dynamic range. Like most 1" sensors I expect it's low light performance and DR will be weak points, while the versatility of the lens and DPAF be where it shines.
