    Thanks for this very informative video. I ordered the XF400 and look forward to using it right away. I come from the XA20/30 series and miniDV Canon Proline video cameras before that. Can you provide the details on the large video monitor you are using? Is it just a large monitor or small LED TV ? If not, details please?

    Nice video, but why did you discontinue the production of the XF400 and XF405?
    They were nice cameras, only an internal recording function at 4:2:2 10bit was missing.

    With external recording at 4:2:2 hd can post software to create a film look allow for a pretty decent film look of shot in 24p wide dr? I’d like to mix it with a c100 or and 5d mark 4 film look.

      Hi Scott. You can set one of the assignable buttons to [Set WB Priority]. This allows you to press that button to quickly switch between the current white balance and the white balance setting selected for [Set WB Priority]. You'll find [Set WB Priority] under [Camera Setup] in the menu. We hope this answers your question.

    Awesome video!
    How much run time do you get shooting at 4k usually? I know there are a few variables with frame rate and card options. What's the best option for single use card for 8+ hours of recording @4k?
    Thanks! :)

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  2 роки тому

      Hi! As 4K video can eat up a lot of memory in a short amount of time, a bigger memory card is definitely better. Check the specifications at canon.us/3mcRAXT for information on the recording time you can expect from your XF400 and XF405.
      Hope this helps!

      You need to switch off Face detection and relay recording to make it live. You might need to shoot at 1080. You cannot record sound if memory serves. Cannot remember all the things you need to be disabled but I hope that works.

    Thanks for the video, questions please: Is the LCD screen on the XF400 *really* 3.5" in size? From this video, there appears to be a black mask that seems to reduce the usable dimensions of the screen. I am considering buying the XF400 for its larger 3.5" LCD screen versus the XA50 for its smaller 3.0" LCD size. I have a hard time seeing those tiny icons and text on my Canon Vixia G60 camcorder 3.0" LCD screen and hope the XF400 LCD screen is in fact 1/2" larger (3.5") in size. Also, does the XF400 offer built-in WIFI for online streaming? The specs on the B&H website seems to indicate so, I just want to confirm that (or does it require a firmware update)? Thanks!

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  3 роки тому

      Hi, Casey! In addition to being equipped with a 3.5"-wide LCD screen, the Canon XF400 and XF405 feature Wi-Fi connectivity that allows you to stream live video and audio over IP without the need for any upgrades. Hope this helps!

    • @caseyonlocation8257
      @caseyonlocation8257 3 роки тому

      @@CanonUSA Hello and thank you for your reply! Great, I'm looking forward to the larger LCD screen! So IP streaming is a feature already built into the XF400 without any firmware update? If so, that's great! The B&H sales rep I spoke with today says that IP Wifi streaming is possible assuming if the XF400 has the latest firmware update installed, otherwise if not, a manual update is required. Based on what you are saying that IP streaming is already included as a feature, that would indicate the B&H rep is wrong. In any case, I just today ordered a brand new Canon XF400 from B&H Photography in New York. Even better, I had B&H match the kit package pricing that Adorama Cameras is offering which is to include 2 free Canon BP 828 batteries. So B&H is giving me 2 free Canon batteries for my new XF400 purchase to match Adorama's kit pricing deal! I should receive that next week, looking forward to it!!

    Hi just wondering why I can only see frame rate options of 50P and 25P ?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  6 років тому

      Hi Yannick! The system frequency / frame rates available will depend on what region of the world it is purchased. There is a version that has PAL, just like there is a version that has NTSC. 50p and 25p would indicate you have the PAL version. Here in the US, you are not limited to having PAL available to use, as you can send it to a Canon Service Center to have NTSC added later as a pay-for upgrade. We hope this answers your question.

    Saw this pitted against the Sony Z90 and I couldn't believe how much sharper/clearer the Z90 footage is as compared to Canon. I prefer Canon, so I was wondering if there have been any firmware improvements for the XF400/XF405.

    • @idahofallsmagazine3691
      @idahofallsmagazine3691 5 років тому

      I'd love to see the footage you're referring to.
      As an XF400 shooter, I can assure you, it absolutely, unequivocally has ZERO sharpness/clarity issues, or any IQ issues for a camera in this class. I love the look of the C100ii, and honestly, I think the downsampled XF400 4K footage is even better. I just finished a 2-cam shoot and I can tell you firsthand, the intercutting of footage has been pleasantly seamless.
      The Z-90 is a fine little ENG tool, but like so many other Sony cams, its highlight roll-off is not good. The Canon just has a more appealing look (says the guy who has a Canon investment to defend, ha ha).
      I can tell you from my experience shooting and owning an EX1r, FS5, FS7 and Z150, my Canon footage grades better, and it definitely has superior highlight roll-off. Here's a little demo we did to deduce how much color grading could be done with the thin 8 bit color with 4:2:0 subsampling: ua-cam.com/video/gXFXuavAOEk/v-deo.html

    Can you explain the physics behind the IR? Is it detecting levels of heat to create a picture or r u casting an IR light on the subject to illuminate the area? If it is used from inside a helicopter at night and shooting at the ground below, will it detect hot spots on a forest fire burn area from the heat they generate?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  4 роки тому

      Hi, Martin! Canon camera gear uses infrared light to help it focus. This is invisible to the human eye and the light's reflection isn't picked up by the image sensor. It's a pretty simple system and it doesn't detect heat signatures.
      Hope this helps!

    • @CanonUSA

      Hello:
      The time code can be set to different configurations. If the time code mode is set to [PRESET] you can set the initial starting value for the time code. Then if the time code running mode is set to [RECRUN], the time code runs only while recording so clips recorded consecutively on the same SD card will have continuous time codes. Please refer to pages 74-75 of the camcorder manual for details. Here is a shortcut: Canon.us/9tubp . This aids in organizing clips on a timeline.

    Hello, interested in new firmware update for C-Log 3. My XF400 does not display a firmware submenu under the wrench in the menu. Also, does one need to have first completed the previous firmware upgrades? Or can you simply jump up to the most recent firmware? Thank you.

      Hi Alec!
      When you download the firmware file from the Canon website, there is the firmware and a detailed set of PDF instructions for installing the firmware. You will want to read and to follow these instructions very carefully. The firmware can be round here: . You can check your existing firmware by sliding the POWER switch to CAMERA and then pressing the MENU button. You will navigate to [System Setup] => [Firmware] to view existing firmware.
      You do not need to have already installed previous updates. If you have other questions our video support agents are happy to assist. You'll find your personalized support options in your My Canon Account at canon.us/account.

Zoom blacked out...quite a few settings are blacked out. I'm befuddled. I followed the directions closely. I did send an email inquiry to Canon Support.

    Is there any difference between the xf400 and the gx10 other than the accessory pro-handle attachment? If so what else is the main difference? I just received a new gx10, and can't find a single informative video on a $2500 camera.
