    Yes, the auto focus is amazing! Looking forward to receiving our 400 😃
    Curious? What cameras did you use shoot this video series?

      If it helps, there are some short bits, like at 3:00, which are flagged on screen as 405 footage. And they look pretty fabulous.

    Hi Jem, can you please make a training series for the XF705, it's much needed, I know there's a problem with the H265 code, my work around is the Atomos Ninja V at the moment, this is until the issues are sorted out with Adobe. Thanks, great training series as always, but need training support for the XF705.

    Pixel AF is why I want to rent this camera (before buying), but I am worried about how the tracking works, can I click on a face and have it be tracked and then pan down to an object and click on that object to track focus on that and then pan up to the face and click on that again to track focus on the face, but not need to click on that tracking reset button at the bottom of the display each time? When I tried XF400 at IBC (and I filmed my video) it seemed that I had to reset tracking every time before being able to track another face or object. Can I disable that need for it to have a click to reset AF?

    • @charbax
      @charbax 6 років тому

      Or if I understand correctly if I disable face/object tracking then it can AF onto a small or automatic sized area instantly for each tap on the screen, but then if the object or face moves in the frame then I would need to click on it again to be sure the AF stays correct. Seems a bit counter productive though, I really wish the AF tracking was instant on each tap, without any need to tap at the bottom of the screen to reset AF tracking before being able to tap on another face/object to track.

      Charbax, what Jem Schofield excellently demonstrated at 3:11 was regular continuous AF.

    • @miklosnemeth8566
      @miklosnemeth8566 6 років тому

      Now I understand your point and question, which is relevant to the section at 7:41 I think I've understood how it works. You don't have to touch the screen until you are happy the face the camera algorithm picked for tracking. With the touch actually you force the camera to track only that face, that's why all other grey rectangle disappears. You use the Tracking Cancellation touch-icon to cancel tracking, and then the camera jumps back to the fully automated face tracking algorithm, where the camera decides which face to track. Thank you so much, Charbax, for this question, because it helped me better understand what happened in section 7:40

    Nice features but do make a video for how to set White Balance presets and kelvin. can we change kelvin preset when recording is ON ?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  6 років тому +1

      Hi Sarosh! Jem briefly goes over setting the White Balance in our "The Canon XF400 and XF 405: Setting Up for Shooting Part 1" video at ua-cam.com/video/41Smv-2jntc/v-deo.html The White Balance cannot be changed in the middle of recording though. To shift it in the middle of a clip, it is best to make the adjustment in post production. We hope this answers your questions!

  • @miklosnemeth8566
    @miklosnemeth8566 6 років тому

    Can you use the joystick to pick the priority face (see section 7:40)? On the C300 you simply use the joystick to pick the priority face to track, you don't have to cancel tracking, you simply pick another face rectangle.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  6 років тому

      Hello again! Simply touch a face on the screen with a gray frame. The frame will change to a double frame to indicate it is the face being tracked. We hope this answers your question.

    • @miklosnemeth8566
      @miklosnemeth8566 6 років тому

      That part is ok, thank you. When the camera is tracking a face with the double frame, how can I change over to another face? On the video at 8:15 first, you tapped the Tracking Cancellation icon, and then you can touch the other face.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  6 років тому +1

      That part of the video is correct. Simply press the Tracking Off icon to remove the frame and reset the tracking, then select the other face. We hope this helps clarify.

    What autofocus settings would you recommend for shooting high speed car/motorcycle races? Track is too fast to be playing around with manual focus

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  4 роки тому +2

      Hello:
      If you are recording motorcycles, you may want to use [Continuous AF]. The camera will automatically focus on the subject at the center of the screen. You also have the option to select from a Large or Small focus area to further control the area of focus. The camera also allows you to select from one of 3- different speed levels for the [AF speed]. Information on these settings are on pages 53-54 of the XF400/XF405 manual. Here is a link: Canon.us/8fbd3.
      If you have other questions or Pro Video support agents are happy to assist you. For support, please register your product to under your Canon Account at the link: Canon.us/mcahy. Once you log into your account, click the [Service & Support] link and select the support method
      We hope this helps.

    How accurate is the MANUAL focus during a zoom? Can the lens stay focussed through the entire zoom range from BCU to wide angle when in MANUAL mode?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  5 років тому +1

      Hi there. Manual focus is considerably accurate. However, the lens will not remain focused as you zoom. You will need to adjust the focus as you zoom or when you have completed the zoom operation to ensure the subject is again in sharp focus. We hope this helps.

      @@CanonUSA Thank you. You are the first person who has admitted this as many others I have asked -including retailers - have said the lens and focus should be maintained throughout the range of the zoom action. That's why I wondered if it was just my friend who had a faulty unit and why I was so reluctant to buy.Are there any Canon camcorders that can maintain the focus? A friend has a Sony AX700 and that does maintain focus throughout in MANUAL mode - however I don't like their menu system, their colours and profiles. Any other suggestions please?

    Is it possible to customize the menu so you can switch from Face Detection to Touch to Focus quickly or do you always have to go through the menu lists to switch?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  6 років тому

      Hi there! This camcorder offers 5 assignable buttons on the body and an onscreen button for touch operation, allowing you to assign various functions to them for quick operation. One of those functions is [Face Only AF], which switches between standard autofocus and autofocus only when a face is detected. We hope this helps!

      Hi there Canon USA. Given I shoot broadcast programs (previously with Canon XA20's and XA30's), event, corporate, and some small cinema projects, your recommendations of this Camera (Canon XF400) versus the Canon XC15 ?

    • @AANasseh
      @AANasseh 6 років тому

      If you do more cinematic stuff get the XC15. But if you need 4K 60P you'll have to get the XF400. I just got an XF405. Very easy camera to use. So, you'll have to see what's more important to you. The XF is more run and gun than XC series in my opinion.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  6 років тому

      Hi there! If you're leaning more into broadcast work, events and such, we agree that the XF405 is the better choice, and a welcomed upgrade from your XA20s and XA30s. We hope this helps!
