  • In this video, Jake gets a first look at Canon's brand new XF-405 and XF-400. Now with 1" 4K UHD sensors, a 15x zoom, dual-pixel auto-focus, touch-screen AF, and a smaller, redesigned body, the XF-405 and XF-400 represent huge upgrades for their professional XF camcorder lineup. Also, we take a peek at Canon's latest Vixia model, the GX-10, which carries the same 4K UHD image quality of its XF brethren, minus the handle and XLR connections.

    Finally! A Canon 4k camera worth buying that's not over $5k

    Any chance it the XF-AVC firmware update will enable a H265 codec option at half the bitrate for same quality and UA-cam compatible and with HDR HLG even at 4K60p? and can we change the camera settings to 4K60 NTSC even if bought in a European PAL 4K50 country?
    What's the bitrate currently for 4K60 vs 4K30? Is it 150mbit/s and 100mbit/s in Mp4 H264 for now?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  6 років тому +1

      These camcorder record 4K60 and 4K30 at 150Mbps. We are not aware of any future firmware updates for H.265. Also the models we sell are NTSC only, they do not offer 4K50.
      Thanks!

    Thanks for the video! I appreciate an overview that doesn't assume I know everything about camera specs and what they mean (that can just make me feel stupid), while also not dumbing things down so much that I don't learn anything. Perfect for most of us who probably know more than the average Joe about cameras but aren't videography gurus with 30 years experience.
    PS: Thanks for also having a little fun with it, life is too short to always take things so seriously

    What are the differences between XF400 and XF405? XF405 is better? For amateur videos and sometimes professional ones GX10 worths it or is it better to buy the others two?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  5 років тому +2

      The GX10, XF400 and XF405 all have the same sensor, zoom lens, recording modes, Dual Pixal CMOS Af and more in common. The difference is in the connections. The GX10 has just the 1/8" Mic Input. The Professional Models of the XF400 and XF405 add XLR inputs for more professional level microphones to be used with them. Then from there the XF400 has just an HDMI output for video. The XF405 has HDMI and 3G-SDI, with SDI being a more professional connection used for production switchers.
      Thanks!

    Good Review. All of the cameras I have right now have interchangeable lenses, and it can be a pain sometimes. It would be nice to ditch one of them and get one of these for event shooting. Only problem is the price for me. Out of my budget for now. I understand the price though. They packed it with features. I want to try this thing out so bad.

    A huge downside IMHO is that the GX10 does not have 24p as the xf400/405 have :( And a switch between PAL/NTSC is also missing therefore 5x slow motion is only available in the NTSC version with 24p. May canon will add this in the future?

    So, I wish Canon would go the Sony route and sell an XLR adapter for consumer-level cameras so people can upgrade them later. If you buy a GX10, there is no way to get XLR inputs down the road as you become more professional. This seems like a big missed opportunity!
    Sony's AX700 and other FDR consumer cameras (as well as their current Alpha still cameras) are compatible with the XLR-A2M and A3M adapters.

      The XF405, XF400 and GX-10 are ENG Style Camcorders with a built-in zoom lens. They are designed to get you great run & gun footage. Hey B&H, I'm looking to buy either a Canon Vixia Gx10 or the G60. Both seem pretty similar but from what I've seen there are rumors of overheating in the gx10. I recommend going with the Canon VIXIA GX10 UHD 4K Camcorder with 1" CMOS Sensor & Dual-Pixel CMOS AF
      BH #CAGX1. This camcorder does not have any time restrictions for video recording. It will record for as long as the camcorder has power and space on the memory card. It would require an extraordinary situation for this camcorder to overheat and shut down. >Mark
