"Fire Woman" next ?? ..and yes, Ian has got a great voice ..always gives me some kind of Native American vibes.. He went on tour with The Doors, so that says a lot !!
This is a great song from 1985, check out the official band video for this song. Rain is another great song from this same album. Their post punk, gothic/rock sound attracted more of an underground crowd and are worth checking out. Thanks for reacting to this song, peace and love from Toronto. ✌️❤️🇨🇦
“Hey Larry name a Cult song” um …. “Got any Springsteen?” Been begging you to check this group out. Ian Astburys’s voice is iconic and IMO this is nothing in comparison to their next two albums. “Electric” and “Sonic Temple” are full of bangers. The radio song that everyone knows is “Fire Woman”
Father is referring to Gong. You reacted to Joy Division on your own. On a live stream, I said my favorite band is Joy Division. Others brought them up, and you eventually reacted to Love Will Tear Us apart. I never suggested it. I stiil think Gong is awesome.
The Cult are really good and Ian Astbury has a great, powerful voice. Fire Woman and Edie (Ciao Baby) are other great tracks from their Sonic Temple album that you should check out.
I looked up he Cult's discography. I can't recognize any of their songs. I must have heard some of them ut none ring a bell. It is still Thursday, even for Dave.
Haha! Actually I'm in Sweden at the moment (I started watching The Girl In The Spider's Web - not as good as the original Millennium trilogy), and it's just gone midnight there.
This album is one my favorites by the Cult, but my favorite is Beyond Good and Evil, every track is great. The rhythm section on it is Matt Sorum of GnR and Craig Adams of the Mission / Sisters of Mercy.
Great tune for the 80s dance floor! Between 1980-83 several bands were sporting this driving guitar sound and beat starting w early U2. Cult, Joy Division, Gene Loves Jezebel and Echo and the Bunnymen to name a few. Nice reaction gents!
This is definitely a well-known song for anyone over maybe 45. It's been in quite a few movies, a Nissan commercial about 10 years ago, and was bumper music played during the Super Bowl broadcast a few weeks ago. It ruled the alternative rock charts in the spring and summer of 1985 and The Cult performed it on Saturday Night Live in December that year. After this album, The Cult transitioned to a more classic rock sound with the guidance of producer Rick Rubin. You may have heard the song Love Removal Machine from their Platinum Electric album released in 1987. Their biggest hit that you will absolutely know is Fire Woman from 1989's multi-platinum Sonic Temple, produced by Bob Rock, who went on to do Metallica's Black Album. Bob has produced quite a few Cult albums since then, including the grunge-era Black Sheep album, Nu Metal Beyond Good and Evil, and more recent Choice of Weapon and Hidden City albums. Their most recent record, Under the Midnight Sun, is more of a return to their goth roots and it's phenomenal. Check out Give Me Mercy and A Cut Inside.
Check out Love Removal Machine, Fire Woman, Rain, Lil Devil etc. They have a lot of great songs. I saw them open for Metallica in Seattle 1989, the Metallica show was filmed. The Cult lead singer jumped off the stage and got into a fight.. Great night. 😈😆
That is their most well-known song. They started out as Southern Death Cult, then they became Death Cult and finally, The Cult. For the first few years they were more indie rock with a goth slant, before evolving into this more rock based sound. Couple you should check out would be Spirit Walker and Love Removal Machine - which would give you a view of both their early sound vs their later sound.
I feel for you Ethan when your dad goes off every Thursday. The angst in your face is obvious. This is a less punk sounding song than I'm accustom to from them. It sounded good. Be sure to do UFO - Doctor Doctor, it lost by a slim margin.
This has a nice guitar sound I like, I think they played with some effects on it, but the band is not one I really got into, so the only song of theirs I could even name would be this one and I couldn't even remember how it went until you got going with it. They formed in Bradford, West Yorkshire in 1983, and I thought they sounded a bit like U2. Apparently they moved to LA by 1989 - like Michael Caine said "you can't tax people who can afford the air fare!" I don't have any of their other songs to suggest, but if you like this you might like a couple of my favourite tunes - Only Tender Love (1993) by Deacon Blue or Alive and Kicking (1985) by Simple Minds - both Scottish bands. Goods tunes!
Has a “The Cure” tonal quality. The album Love was more of an alternative theme but this group got more mainstream rocking into the next albums and for the better
@@generoberts9151 - I should have thought of The Cure, but the old brain takes too long to warm up these days and doesn't get up to speed unless it happens to be going downhill with the wind behind it. Thanks for giving it a nudge!
I suspect the song you'd be most likely to know, Larry, would be "Fire Woman" -- that one topped the "US Mainstream" charts at #4 in 1989, and hit #2 on the "US Alternative", though it only made it to #46 on the Billboard 100. (Which still made it their biggest hit in the US, at least.) How many other songs of theirs you would have heard of, probably depends on what radio stations you were listening to at the time. They were always more of an "alternative" band with a cult following (no pun intended) in the US, though they did have many more hits on the UK charts. Their next-biggest ones on the US mainstream and alternative charts were "Love Removal Machine", "Edie (Ciao Baby)", "Sun King", "Sweet Soul Sister", "Wild-Hearted Son", "Rise", "Dirty Little Rockstar", and "Heart of Soul." This song, "She Sells Sanctuary", made it to #15 on the UK charts, and #11 in Canada, but failed to chart in the US.
I have GTA: Vice City to thank for introducing me to this song. What an absolute banger. And a super driving tune, too. Just watch your speed when its on!
Just discovered your channel. The Cult is a underrated band. I believe the guitarist was with Guns and Roses. Duffy ? You should have done the video. You'll know where Captain Jack Sparrow got his look....😅. Fire woman is a good song from them. They still tour. The singer was with the Doors for a while.
Speaking of Yorkshire bands, you might enjoy this very short clip (so no spoilers) of the Kaiser Chiefs in this UK TV advert for Yorkshire Tea - "where everything's done proper!" - ua-cam.com/video/Gb3mFGkKzn4/v-deo.html
Ian Astbury (the lead singer) could sound so much like Jim Morrison at times that he wound up fronting The Doors when they re-united and toured with them. The BIG songs they had were "Love Removal Machine" & "Fire Woman". Their sound eventually leaned more towards AC/DC than the sound they had on "She Sells Sanctuary".
Please - check out Li'l Devil from the Electric Album. In fact the whole Electric Album is fantastic. 'Love Removal Machine' from that album is a follow on to this song, which is all about a prostitute - who sells sanctuary!
Goth rock had besides "The Cult" also "The Mission" and "Fields of Nephilim" but the cult was best known. A bit earlier were Medium Medium with their song "So hungry So Angry" which had the first slap-bass on a non-Funk record. ua-cam.com/video/LnoGts-zT0A/v-deo.html
This song is so frickin awesome.
Sounds as fresh today as it did in the 80s.
There is such a long list of awesome songs from this band, they are so under-rated.
FIRE WOMAN 🔥🔥👍
I love seeing a dad and son having such a good relationship. I hope Ethan realizes how lucky he is. Lots of kids don’t have that.
Hi Guys! Glad you could make it!

I love the fact that the power chord is played on an acoustic guitar, it shouldn't work, but it does!
"Fire Woman" next ?? ..and yes, Ian has got a great voice ..always gives me some kind of Native American vibes.. He went on tour with The Doors, so that says a lot !!
We covered this song in my college band. It was always a big hit.
Loudest concert I ever went to was the cult. Fire Woman was amazing live
Bet you've heard Love Removal Machine. This was great for Poooooooooooooll Thursday!
Great band. Love Removal Machine, Wildflower, Lil' Devil all great songs. Great live act too

Hey Cheryl. I heard from Elvis. She's doing well.

@@cherylreichardtYeah, That was a great group. There is a great group here too.
Sugar Plum 🥰 .. I thought this is She sells sanctuary??
Fire Woman has been in my head since I first heard it in the’80’s
One of my faves back in the day 😊
Loved this song so much I even bought the extended single back then.
Ethan, in protest you could put your fingers in your ears 😜

My favorite is "Edie."
Great song, great band....one of the best live bands I've seen......their "Electric" album is an underrated rock classic.
Not a weak track on it - Might just have to listen to the whole thing right now! Wild Flower.....!
Love Removal Machine was another of their popular songs

This and "highway star" from Deep Purple are fun driving songs. "Flow state" kinda song.
Absolutely love this song. Just realized there is no guitar break for a solo which is unusual, but I don't care.
