That album with Love Removal Machine on it is named "Electric" and was produced by Rick Rubin. He really had them strip down their sound, which resulted in a fantastic album. Every song on that album rocks.
A genuine evolutionary rock band....Started off an alternative /student outfit.....evolved into an alternative rock band and eventually became a serious, heavy riff band. Imho they ended up fucking awesome. The Electric album is an absolute banger and off the next album ....eadie(ciao baby) is an unadulterated classic. English rock n roll at its best.....with a great american accent😅😅😅.. so glad these are getting an airing.....people NEED to hear these gem's 🎸...you were spot on hearing similarities during "sancturary" the Love album was at the height of their alternative time.
Funny you mentioned The Doors. He sang on tour with the Doors in 2000 something. Saw them in Seattle on the Pier as the sun was setting and he was masterful. The sky was purple, red, orange etc...and Riders on the Storm starts...I almost started bawling right there. Religious experience.
"Channelling The Doors" well yes Ian Astbury did front The Doors for a tour and I was lucky enough to see them in London in 2002. Ok so he's no Jim Morrison but I wouldn't have seen the other three Doors reform without him.
If they had been placed in a cryonic state for 5 years and came out about the same time as Guns and Roses they would have been huge. There would have been endless arguments about who kicked ass more. I think of big 80's bands and they were so different for that time.
FUN FACT: At one point G'n'R opened for The Cult (in '87, IIRC). Also, the drummer Matt Sorum is in the Edie (Ciao Baby) video - altho he wasn't with the band during recording the album/track, he joined shortly thereafter, and did the Sonic Temple tour drumming for them. Later, Sorum became the drummer for Guns n' Roses, then later still was the Cult's drummer for the album "Beyond Good & Evil"
Yeah, great band got a few albums, great on long drives down the coast, sun shining, surfboards on roof, spliff on the go,sunglasses on,head bopping, this is what the Cult mean for me.Anyone else get the same vibe?Good choice Mike, too cool man.
Great pick up Lee, Ian Astbury of the Cult performed on at least the last 2 Doors tours as the lead singer. The Cult is a fantastic band. Billy Duffy rocks!!!
Funny you should mention The Doors. I believe it was in the year 2000 that the remaining members of The Doors toured and had Ian Astbury as the singer.
I bought Ekectric when it came out. One of my favorite albums of a very good year. GnR's Appetite was the same year, as was Kick by INXS and U2's The Joshua Tree.
The Ciao Baby riff is a bit similar to house of the rising sun by the Animals, out of the A minor, but Animals stick to straight arpeggio while Duffy adds the hammer ons and pull offs. Also Tangerine by Zeppelin, starts with the A minor, and on 12 string like Ciao Baby.
One of the most overlooked/underrated rock bands. Anyway: They started off Goth, and have an interesting sound evolution. Always great, IMO! The vast majority of fans will point to 3 albums being their peak/trifecta, in order: Love, Electric, Sonic Temple. But there's bangers on every album of theirs, honestly. Wanna do another 3 pack? Try this on: from Love: "Phoenix" from Electric: "Peace Dog" from Sonic Temple: "Fire Woman" bonus points for checking out "Rise" from "Beyond Good & Evil" (Sorum's drumming return) or "Go West" from their first full LP, the Goth Rock sounding Dreamtime.
Funny you mentioned The Doors! When they were big in the 80s/90s Ian Astbury (singer) was always compared to Jim Morrison. You have to watch them perform in their official videos, like for Fire Woman. You'll understand then. Ian ended up being the singer for the remaining Doors and did a series of performances with them. The Doors loved working with him & he did an amazing job with the Doors songs. He's the only one I can imagine singing for Jim.
The album with "Love Removal Machine" on it, "Electric", is FIRE. Their other albums are OK, but I think "Electric" is special. In my mind, "Electric" stands with "Highway to Hell" and "Back in Black" as one of the greatest high energy rock-n-roll albums of all time. I would recommend - well, anything from this album - but I especially like "Peace Dog".
HUGE musical change with the album "Electric" -- they went full on AC/DC, if you will. I'm pretty sure Rick Rubin had AC/DC piped into the studio to try to emulate the guitar tone. Regardless, Electric is a killer album. I couldn't get into the more "arena'" rock vibe they fully embraced after Electric. There was a 12" version of Love Removal Machine that was a top 10 Billboard Dance chart hit. I actually remember dancing to it! Billy the guitarist went FULL guitar hero mode on this record.
Take some Doors, and U2, and more edge (no pun intended), throw it in a bag, and shake it up, and you get The Cult. Duffy is great. It's a sad story if you look into it. Fire Woman is a must, as well as almost all of the first album.
Lee just remember for us that were born in the 60’s, schooled in the 70’s, turned 18 in the 80’s this was just our music. It’s funny when people say “looks like the 80’s” 😊 just sayin
She Sells Sanctuary - total anthem ❤
.

These are great songs, but the fact that they didn't request "Fire Woman" is borderline criminal.
Yes Fire Woman is the obvious choice from Sonic Temple but, I've always been partial to Edie.

Watch the official video for The Cult 'Fire Woman'. You'll love it. I've loved them since the 80s and they're still one of my favorite bands.
Rain by The Cult is an absolute banger, thoroughly recommended.
1st 4 albums…..
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Lil’ Devil” (1987) off the Electric album ❤️🔥🎸
I loved the Cult in the 80s, still love them now.
Holy crap!! Didn't see this..Great Freaking Pick She sells Sanctuary!!! 💯🎶🔥❤️
"She Sells Sanctuary" sports a GUEST DRUMMER! As if you couldn't tell right away! And, yes, Lee, you ARE getting good at this! 🤗
The sound that rock parades through the decades!Led Zeppelin B.O.C and The Doors,U2 and the Sisters Of Mercy SO GOOD SO FRESH AND REAL!
The Cult - Love
The Cult - Fire Woman
The Cult - Wild Flower
The Cult - Big Neon Glitter
The Cult - Phoenix
Yes, I will add Nirvana to that list +CFFC+
Fire Woman is my favorite. The performance video is great!
I’ll put that one the list to check out! Thank you 🙏
Great band! You definitely need to do Fire woman next!!
Thank you so much, Michael! So good!

Ahhh....the 80's! I remember! (Kinda 😉)

No regrets! 😉😁@@scottyhotty1003
@clairmeade1103 😁✌️

My understanding was, that tour was with Robbie and Ray. John Densmore did not participate.
@@TheHogsEarReport yeah my bad, my memory of over 20 years ago must have been playing tricks.
Saw these guys Live in 1986, the opening act was Guns n Roses. It was just before GnR really exploded so it made for an amazing concert overall.
Yes I'm lovin' me some She Sells Sanctuary now 'n forever.
The Cult is one of the greatest rock bands ever. Electric and Sonic Temple are both EPIC

They’re new to me…
At first sounded like the Stones…
Good rockers. I enjoyed Edie (Ciao Baby).
Thank you, Lee and Michael!
You definitely hit some bangers. I’d suggest Brother Wolf as a change of pace, also Phoenix if you dig insane guitar.
I never listened to the Cult ... could listen to more .. like it
Amazing band, so many brilliant tunes and still going strong
Edie featured Matt Sorum on drums; he would go on to play drums in Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver...
Thanks Michael K. Three great tunes. Didn’t listen these guys very much so good to see what I missed. 🔥
Three of their absolute best. Good choices man!
Love lp their best, brother wolf sister moon a eerie track, haunting play on full moon and howl 🎑🐺
The Cult! Great Band.
Great reaction, as usual. Their album Love is outstanding.
🤘😎🤘
I appreciate that, head of a monster. I hope to hear more from them soon. This was badass. Straight up 🤯👀
Yeah, great band got a few albums, great on long drives down the coast, sun shining, surfboards on roof, spliff on the go,sunglasses on,head bopping, this is what the Cult mean for me.Anyone else get the same vibe?Good choice Mike, too cool man.
Saw these guys live in 2013. They played for 2 1/2 hours. I remember walking out to my car after the gig at 12:30 am. Excellent band to see live!
Great pick up Lee, Ian Astbury of the Cult performed on at least the last 2 Doors tours as the lead singer. The Cult is a fantastic band. Billy Duffy rocks!!!
Such a brilliant band I still watch them live when I can they still have great energy
Funny you should mention The Doors. I believe it was in the year 2000 that the remaining members of The Doors toured and had Ian Astbury as the singer.
I didn't recognize the third song by the title, but I remember the song. Love the Cult. I'm a big Doors fan so I was all over this when it came out.
Solid rock and roll
I bought Ekectric when it came out. One of my favorite albums of a very good year. GnR's Appetite was the same year, as was Kick by INXS and U2's The Joshua Tree.
Check out Wild flower, Rain and American horse. Same album order just different songs.
Might be my favorite band of the 80s.
great band
You are. Spot on with doors and cure references
Ciao Edie is about Andy Warhols muse , Socialite Edie Sedgwick...who became terribly addicted to drugs and eventually passed away in 1971.
If you like heavy cult you gotta listen to the electric album, every song is awesome
I recommend the double album Live Cult (at the Marquee, London, MCMXCI)

Edie is Edie Sedgwick is the it girl of NYC and Warhol’s The Factory...

metallica stole that lat rift in the 90s

The Cult are awesome dude.
Hardly a bad album.
Killer live.

Watched these guys blow Guns n Roses off the stage in 1993. They opened with She Sells Sanctuary and the place turned into a lunatic asylum.
"Electric" is a great album.
I want to hear more now. This was a great intro to this group. They fuckin rock lol
Lee just remember for us that were born in the 60’s, schooled in the 70’s, turned 18 in the 80’s this was just our music. It’s funny when people say “looks like the 80’s” 😊 just sayin
I am 75, born in 1949, and I love this music, too!
Fire Woman, fer sure!
Funny you should mention the Doors ,Ian was asked to play Jim Morrison in the movie.Have a listen to "Wild hearted son".
Very prescient mentioning The Doors, as you will discover...
I wouldn't consider this band heavy metal, more just rock.
Gotta do FIRE WOMAN by The CULT 👍
You need to do Fire Woman their best and Rain
listen to sisters of mercy - this corrosion....... FAB
Now we're talking
Do WILDFLOWER!
SALT SHAKA!!!
Check out Fire Woman please.
The Cult was a good band, but not a diverse band with far too many of their songs sounding alike.
Miserable git.
Is just rocknroll eh
Wildflower next 🤘🤘🤘👈🇦🇺
