@@Garage2Trail 4t? Check wiring connectors, frame grounds, generator, cdi, coil, kill switch, check for air leaks, carb cleaning, valve function etc..you are good, so keep on keeping on. 🤠👍
I got a dr 100 for christmas in 1985 and my brotber got a sp 100 actually it was december 1984 but they were 85 models all these childhood memories came back thank you for that
Thanks for all the content! Learning alot from you. Also just picked up a 98 xr400r. Ive been working on going through it. Dropped one tooth on the front sprocket. Gordan's mods next. 🤘
Great work to get bike started and all else will get moving forward well with the rest of the pending work - tried some Chevron Techron and a bit of Marvel mystery oil to help lube your fuel and carburetor. Thank you for the great video ..!!

Ohhhh I'm excited for the trail video on this one!! There's a VERY clean 84 near me for $300. I'm curious how heavy and brutal it is on the trail haha.
I hope to have this going soon on the woods…ran into a problem with it not starting now. I’ll have that detailed on the next video on it. Stay tuned! I’m anxious to see how it is on the trails too.
My best guess is seeing how it wouldn't start with the exhaust valve clearance being a tiny bit too tight is when it gets hot the clearance gets tighter again. But i would also suggest having a spare spark plug and when it gets hot switch the plug onto spare plug and check for spark. Good looking condition bike for it's year and being a farm bike.
I really need to figure out the hard start when hot…last thing I want to do is take it into the woods and stall it then get stuck until it cools off lol. I remember a kid had a DR100 in our trails in the mid-late 90s. I can’t remember how it was but I’m anxious to see how this one does too!
It's a great find, pity about the knee dent in the tank. Engine sounded too quiet, makes me think the cam chain tension needs to be adjusted. Spark looked v weak even with new plug. I would check plug lead and earth connection on coil may be corroded also check engine on/off switch for corrosion. Just my 2c worth from many time zones away. The old bike still looks modern! Just needs a front brake and barkbusters, yellow ofc.
Thanks Steve! The kid I got it from said the dent happened when he dropped it recently 🤦♂️…I’m thinking on gapping the exhaust valves a tad more to see if that solves the hard start when hot problem. It is a really nice looking bike!
I had a White with small square headlight model DR250 82/83 from memory... it was that slow and gutless I think they forgot to put the engine in it... I was holding up trucks from the lights.
I keep hearing how gutless these are. I hope to get it running a bit more reliably to be able to see for myself back in my trails. Was yours street legal? This one is strictly off-road.
@@Garage2Trail Honestly I wouldn't bother. It was registered and I was on my learners... it was my 5th bike at the time (racing mx). I think the model after searching goog was DR250Z
That’s a possibility…my guess is maybe something made a nest in the original and it was destroyed. The kid I bought it from never had it to begin with.
@@Garage2Trail no problem what was your starting problem mine won’t start and I think it’s the ignition coil and I ltry to look for one online but there really hard to find
@@dylancoffey5859 it ended up being the CDI. I used one that came from Slovakia! I would check all the ignition components though first with a multimeter before jumping to that. The part that kept throwing me off was it was sparking, but not at the right time. The 2nd video I did on this bikes shows all that.
Score, look's like a winner. Full floater, disc break, 80s rm paint job, great find.
She’s fighting me right now…I can’t get it to start again 😆

@@Garage2Trail yes sir the best one i ever had
Awesome! I'm building a 1986 SP200 at the moment
Awesome! I ran into a problem with it. I think it’s the CDI but I’ll find out for sure soon! Still working on the next video for this one.
Nice find. There can't be many left in this condition.
Thanks! I hope to get it sorted soon…as of now I can’t get it to start again 😆

Thank you, that’s kinda what I’m leaning towards. Good idea about checking the spark when hot!
Looking forward to seeing how this works out on your trails. As a kid I had an 83 DR100, very disappointing bike at the time.

@@Garage2Trail no..... no you dont... lolol
Looks like it’s done very little work, I wouldn’t mind betting you can still see crosshatching in the bore still
Yeah it was very lightly ridden. My guess just on fields and dirt roads.
Maybe they took off air box to adjust back shock n lost it?
That’s a possibility…my guess is maybe something made a nest in the original and it was destroyed. The kid I bought it from never had it to begin with.
I got one same year and color in good condition for parts if your interested
Thank you for the offer Dylan but I got this one all fixed and cleaned up and sold last month.

Interesting…I can’t wait to give it a try!
