We’re back at West Chicago, Illinois on the Union Pacific Geneva Subdivision and the Canadian National Leighton Subdivision where the two lines cross each other at JB Tower. While we didn’t get the summer temperatures, the show went on even though we had sweatshirts on for most of the day due to light winds throughout the day but thankfully, we didn’t have to bring the heavy winter coats out. Meanwhile, the morning kept us busy with a combination of Union Pacific Freight Trains, Canadian National Freight Trains, and Metra Commuter Trains! By lunch time, things slowed down due to planned track work near the JB Tower Diamond. Once the track work was completed, we saw trains every 20-40 minutes passing by including a Canadian National Freight Train that picked up train orders at the JB Tower old school style! Overall, it was quite a productive day even though Metra F59PHI 90 or 79 didn’t show up like we hoped for. Enjoy the video from West Chicago!

This is a great video with the wonderful sound of the diamonds. I liked the flanges through the frogs at 13:15. It looks like two of the diamonds have settled but it looks like they have attracted maintenance attention. Nice job Andrew!

Sounds like Union Pacific will no longer operate commuter trains for METRA thanks to a lawsuit back in October 2021.
