- West Chicago Railfanning
Recorded on 9/18/20 from 6:30am-2:45pm
Another chilly morning out trackside as we set up our cameras for another busy day in West Chicago, Illinois at JB Tower where the Union Pacific Geneva Subdivision crosses the Canadian National Leighton Subdivision. The fall weather was completely unexpected as we’re still used to warmer weather conditions. The temperature did gradually get warmer but not as we expected to be due to the wind. Meanwhile, the rail traffic was a bit busy in the morning but slowed down just before lunch time. However, it became busy after lunch and we perfectly found our Highlight shortly afterwards. Overall, it was a really fun and great day along the tracks. Coming up next is a return trip to the Illinois Railway Museum for The Showcase Weekend! Enjoy the full video from West Chicago at JB Tower!

Nice catches Andrew. Hope to see you one day!
Thank you!
Where do you stand/sit? I thought JB Tower was closely monitored.
JB tower my experience you can get kinda close you have to stand at least 10 to 15 ft back if u do ur good
Mxdzz The Railfan thanks for the info!
Junior Whiskers yup
Great vireo Andrew! I think this video has the most action on the Canadian National's Leightin Subdivision that I have seen on any of your West Chicago videos in the last year. Thank you and the gang for braving the early autumn temperatures on 18 September 2020 to take these videos to share with us!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@staintedcards This video was taken in West Chicago, Illinois where the Union Pacific Railroad's Geneva Subdivision crosses the former Elgin Joliet & Eastern Railroad track (now owned by the Canadian National Railroad) that runs from Waukegan, Illinois through Rondout crossing, Leighton crossing, Barrington crossing, I do not recall the names of the crossings with the old Illinois Central Freeport Division or the name of the crossing with the BNSF former Burlington Northern. The EJ&E line then goes through West Chicago and on down to Joliet where it turns to the east south of Interstate 80 and heads through New Lenox, Frankfort, Matteson, Chicago Heights and on through Dyer, Schererville, Griffith and then north to Gary, Indiana. The Addison local on the former Illinois Central Freeport Division probably originates out of the ex-Illinois Central Hawthorne Yard in Cicero, Illinois if that yard still exists. If the Hawthorne Yard does not exist anymore, then the Addison local probably originates at the Markham Yard in Markham/Homewood, Illinois.
Awesome video, Andrew!
Thank you!
Hehe I was there the day before
Nice video! I went there a few times!
Thank you!
How u see it?
Outstanding Catches of Metra, Canadian National & Union Pacific man I also have a question which Union Pacific Line is the most active line with Metra and UP combined ? Union Pacific North, (Kenosha Sub) Union Pacific Northwest (Havard Subdivision) or Union Pacific West (Geneva Subdivision) because I was thinking of photographing Union Pacific the next time I’m back in Chicago but I’m torn between the three UP lines
You’ll see the most freight action on the up-w line, and the most Metra on the up-n line. Someone should very much correct me, but I don’t think there’s much freight and only a decent number of Metra trains on up-nw.
Junior Whiskers I think there’s usually one freight train local that runs on the Union Pacific Northwest Line.
should film BNSF racetrack always good action including amtrak
David Schieler I live on the racetrack.
I’m aware about the BNSF racetrack I’ve photographed Trains there twice and I’ve had an amazing time photographing Amtrak, Metra, & BNSF on the Racetrack but I’m asking about UP because there are Three Union Pacific lines Metra runs their trains and I’m wondering which line has a combination with Both Metra & Union Pacific trains
