    this is awesome. the adults in my life when i was younger weren't very ok with the fact that i wanted dreads, so to see this lucky boy getting dreads, it makes me happy. also, that boy's hair is a tad shorter than mine, so it gives me hope on re-dreading mine. mine is a bit shorter than the last time i had them so..

    Your video is one of the few to not promote using products. My daughter's hair is 2 1/2 ft long we are going to use your method to do both of our hair. Mine is the whole 6-7 inches. Doing mine more as support than anything. We're looking forward to the journey. Thank you.

    All natural freeform is the way to go, also the easiest care free way to go. I'm nearly 4 years in and I would highly recommend freeforming, it takes patience but it sooo easy.

    well done... a short, clear video which shows a good way to make dreads... nice! (ok, it's a bit dark sometimes, so one can't see the loose hair good... )

    doesn't the rip and twist method lead to those little bows or elbows of straight hair emerging from the dred as it locks over time?>

    Maintaining Dreads?
    Mine have come loose, shall I just crochet hook them to tighten them up again?
    Much love xx

  • @wingsonmyback1
    @wingsonmyback1 10 років тому +1

    I have always had a problem with crocheting, the hair I pull into the dread comes back out after 5 mins. I have tried and tried to master this art but no matter what ,size hook or whether I pull the hair clear to the other side it comes back out.

    • @DreadsUKdotcom

  • @ElijahMCbeats

    you can. but if you do, you will have to go through that stage again. Loosening is part of the natural process. The locks will slowly relax and find their own way back together to naturally tighten.

    Hi there just found you channel! Live it. Quick question..I'm about to start dreads on a Caucasian client with fine hair. Is it best to start on clean hair or would it lock better with couple of days old hair? I think clean (because the scalp should be clean) but wanted to ask your opinion. Thanks!!

    So I'm really into reggae and rastafarianism. I want dreadlocks really badly but I don't know how it will look on me personally. So my question is, if I do this twist and rip method could I just untangle it or do I need to get a Buzz cut?

    • @aliciatodd2382
      @aliciatodd2382 8 років тому

      A reputable stylist can brush out dreadlocks, its very time consuming, and you will also loose a fair bit of hair depending on the age and condition of the locs (dry brittle locs will break during brushing, even with conditioning during the process) Also some hair that was straight before dreadlocks can take on a frizzy afro appearance for a short time after brushing out :)

    ok whats tge process after you do these steps and your hair grows how to you dread the base of the hair if its already twisted serious question cause i been waitin to do this for years

    • @DreadsUKdotcom
      @DreadsUKdotcom  9 років тому

      +Donald Hernandez the hair at the roots will be messy but naturally dread on its own. Some people as a preference will book it for a root tidy. Takes between 1-2hrs and typically will do this once every 2-4 months.
      Other than that, its just a case of keeping your hair clean with a good quality dreadlock shampoo :)

    • @DreadsUKdotcom

      Stephanie Calandres its a good start. as your dreadlocks mature, you will loose length, so bear that in mind x

    I want to do this but what happens when your hair grows? How do you dread the new hair?

    • @DreadsUKdotcom
      @DreadsUKdotcom  5 років тому

      The hair should dread up again on its own. Although you will have messy roots if just left.
      IF you want tidy smart roots. You can visit your local dreadlock/loc salon for a root tidy.

    does the hair shrink size when you make a dread

    • @DreadsUKdotcom
      @DreadsUKdotcom  8 років тому +1

      its all down to technique. In most cases, yes. I would expect your hair to shrink. Unless your stylist has the experience and spacifically says otherwise.

      I guess that could be true for some people, I just know when I've done them without a hook they just matted and didn't turn out to be dreads, just extremely difficult, large knots as oppose when I did my dreads the first time with a hook and they were great :) everyone's hair is different, I guess!

      @@Thairish13 do you knoe where the term "dreadlocks" originated? It was the term used to define the FEAR struck into the hearts of the European colonisers when they were going to african countries capturing slaves who followed THEIR culture and heritage. Our hair locks by washing it and not doing anything with it. The hairs mat naturally because they interlock as they grow. You cant grow freeform unless yours lock up from greasey/oiliness. If you do wash it itll come right apart. Even if not you can still take yours down by combing it but with REAL dreadlocks the only way to get rid of them is cutting at the root.

    THAT'S NOT LOCKED HAIR
    simply BRAIDED hair
    I think people need to understand WHAT CAUSES hair to loc and WHY hair locs-deeply rooted in the nature of the hair!
    DEEPLY KINKED HAIR LOCS EFFORTLESSLY conversely WAVY/STRAIGHT HAIR IS FREE FLOWING
    I have seen several pictures at attempts to loc Caucasian hair,for all the effort put in it does not turn out quite right
