At 66 & retired I FINALLY made an appointment for being a dreadhead, i’ve been doing lots of research and still have my cosmetology license never did dreads though, this video is super helpful my dear thank you so very much! I am posting this August 6,2024 just know you are helping so many individuals like myself to understand this technique, with so many amazing ideas on social media now too! ✨ hugs from eastern Oregon 💖🌎💖
I commented on one of your videos about a month and a half ago as I was trying to decide if locs were the direction I wanted to go. I commented on several other sites, but to date you were the only one who responded and you were very encouraging. It's been difficult as I live in and area that there are no licensed locticians. However, a local beauty school has one student learning the art of dreads and I finally have an appointment next week. Your encouragement and my determination have kept me moving forward. Just wanted to say thank you. I know this video was posted some years back, so I hope you'll get to see this little thank you!
@@WiredAndStoned I'm amazed you're responding to a six year old video just now being commented on. Thank you! And I'm going to talk to her instructor before going to make sure they will either twist and rip or back comb and then crochet so I'll have what I'm looking for. I've been making my own extensions and if I could hold my arms over my head, I'd just do my own as my extensions are turning out pretty decent for a beginner. I just need help getting this done and in NW Montana there hasn't been much demand for them. 🤭
I just wanted to let you know that I am a licensed cosmetologist, and you literally just taught me everything I know about dreads!! 😂😁😁 I'm actually about to do my first set! Wish me luck 😘
This is the least informative video on this subject.... definitely do more research. Personally I think these sections look awful and unnatural in the long run.

Thank you for showing this! I've wanted dreads for like two years so now I'm just gonna do it no questions asked. I'm excited! This video helped a lot.
depends on the clients shape for me, weather i go brick pattern random, rectangle. a lot of loctitions dont even think about this type of thing, the dreads can end up complimenting the persons facial structure or do the complete opposite.
I made my partial dreads using twist & rip and a crochet hook last year & just added another row last week using the same methods. All of my dreads are on the back of my head & they're coming along nicely. I recommend you just go for it! They're not that difficult to make because it's done mostly by feeling rather than by seeing :)
I think this is one of the best videos I've seen about sectioning. Thanks so much for posting this! Watching this gave me information I needed to express what I wanted when getting my own dreads. Thank you! :)
Thank you so much! I was struggling to find good information on how to go about the dreading of the top hair and part ! I'm doing this from home on my own and I can't thank you enough for your tutorials
I started mine about a week ago, I did them myself, but had my husband section them. I'm in love with them and can't wait to see how they're going to change and grow. I love your videos, I always want to learn more and more about them.
Thank you so much. I'm a hairdresser and you have taught me so much. I myself are about to join the dread journey.. the bottom of my hair is shaved and the top is longer.. I'm going to start dreads on my hair then add extensions also. I will be using your content to do mine. So again thank you
I just took my dread down, it took me about 3 days, (I have 2 kids that were with me non stop sooo...) cause I'm kind of perfectionist, like you, and knowing that my dreads are where ever, what ever size made me crazy. I'll try making my own dreads using your advice (these dreads that I had was made by a 'professional'... It didn't feel like it). Thank you for your videos, they help a lot
this was a very helpful video. been scared to start them myself, just doing a few here and there left me scared about the part, hairline, those ones by the ears. buying rubber bands and starting tomorrow 😆👌
U should definitely do a tutorial on how too section, the back of your head yourself.....because I have my whole head dreaded and have this like 6x7 inch are right in the middle of the back of my head I can't do...anyway this can be done without the help of another person
Just starting my dread journey! I’m starting off with double ended dreads, and getting a feel for how to put them in and sectioning my hair! I’m still learning about them, and testing them out! I take them out once a week so I can wash my hair! I’m also decorating them! So far I’ve gotten great responses from friends, customers, and family! Everyone is telling me I should just dread it all! I’m wanting my grow out my hair healthy and long before I take the real dread journey! I’ve damaged it a lot from bleaching and dying my hair for 2 years straight! I want to grow my hair out down to my waist so that I can cut all the split ends of when it’s at a comfortable length, before I dread my hair for real! But until then, I’m loving my double ended dreads!
How do you section your dreads after you have them.. Like I have been working so much I haven't had time to do my hair in abwhile and at my roots they are all starting to grow into each other.. How do you get them sectioned back where you can see the parts and how do get all the loose hair around the dreads into them?
Keely Lyons You should separate them regularly especially after washing and drying them. A rat tail comb works great for getting those fine lines in. And I just learned this, but palm rolling them after a wash can also help guide the frizzy parts to the right dread. You can also use a *tiny* like .75 crochet hook or latch hook to carefully, very gently, pull some in. Just don't overdo it
Your videos are SO WONDERFUL and informative! I cannot wait for you to share a detailed video about crochet hooking dreads because I cannot seem to grasp the concept for the life of me!!
That's so helpful, thanks babe. I'm starting my dreadlock journey tomorrow when they arrive. Purple and blue. Oh I'm going to rock the school run on Monday haha, I already stand out as an "alternative" Mummy. Let's see their reactions to the only one in the village with dreadlocks haha 😂

Thank you so much, you cleared up so much! I have long fine healthy hair but didn’t want them too thick or heavy when the dreads grow out so I think I will do 3-4 on the back row. Just what I needed to hear!

I love your video but I was wondering if you would maybe do a video of how to section hair with smaller sectioning like you explained in your video to make a total of 50 or 60 dreads like you have the sectioning is where I’m having the most difficulty
I started my dreads about a month ago I sectioned myself with a mirror and I’m super over thinking my placement and wanting to brush them out and redo them.

Unfortunately, I crocheted it pretty tightly and do not want to take the dreads out as I feel like it will cause too much damage. Is it OK if I make the second row smaller, or would that make my dreads look fucked up
Sunny nothing wrong with a bit of variety, you can always soak the ones you wish to take out with conditioner for about an hour and then comb them out and restart, that’s what I did
I'm a 44 year old guy...and have decided to embark on my dread journey! Question: how do I find a GOOD person to do my dreads?? What would I...or SHOULD I pay for them?
Will the really big, fat, flat and lumpy parts on the bottom of my dreads, from where I back comes them to start, like grow completely out as the get longer or will it have to be cut off... Also can I trim my dreads???
Keely Lyons If they're still loose enough to be "moving" and dreading, just look all fluffy, they should taper out. You can guide them by palm or pinch rolling. If they're already locked into hard club-ends, you can always pick and brush out the ends to form them how you want. And yeah, you can trim them if they get too long or whatever. The ends will probably unravel just a little, it's normal.
I am loving you videos. Been going through them cause I am planning on doing dreads for my hair. I am a little worried cause I have thinner hair and starting to get a widows peak so idk how that’s going to play out lol
Hiya! I've been watching your videos 🙌 I heard you say something about Reno, is that where your located? I've been wanting dreads but don't trust just anyone to do them!
Hello, lovely miss Fleur. You're a wonderful little creature.! My name is Kandice. I'm just curious as to whether or not you still travel or host people to do their dreads. Do you.? Please let me know.! Take care and stay beautifully you.!
I have a big question... The Interference of the number of extensions hair depends on the size of the head or in thickness of the dreads? Im going to pay to a girl to put dread on me and I will have to use extensions. The girl who's going to make said me the price and then I said a few days later that I want them not so thick, I want fine dreads, and now she's saying to me that I have to pay more. Why?! If the size of my head is the same?! Why does she want more money if the amount of hair is the same? Or isn't? I'm very confuse and I don't want to be cheated... Please someone can explain..
teresa gama more dreads =more work. Doesn't matter the size of your head. Each dread will takes the same amount of time do more dreads will take more time/effort
did you take out rubber bands before or after the twist and rip? if after, how long after? It's been about 2 weeks with mine, I twist and ripped but pretty much all of them came undone, I still have the rubber bands on but some fall or break and I replace them i'm reluctant to start over because my hair is still sectioned underneath my rubber bands and some of my hair has started forming little loops even though my twists came undone any advice?

i was wondering that too.
It's all in preference really. If you have squares, either larger or smaller, you'll have more or less dreads depending. By doing rectangles, you still get a good number of dreads without the sections being too massive or little. It also makes the "brickwork" easier to build up the scalp.

I'm a 44 year old guy...and have decided to embark on my dread journey! Question: how do I find a GOOD person to do my dreads?? What would I...or SHOULD I pay for them?
mydejavooo1
Diy its better that way. Save money too.
Can't people see the squares if you section it like that?
I really want to dread my hair but I'm scared I'm gonna miss having my normal hair or if I end up not liking them on me! what should I do??
Get synthetic dreadlocks :) You braid them into your hair and you can always take them out
synthetic dreads aren't available in the us tho
+saint jay can't you order them?
+Morgan Evans yeah my sister ordered hers from england
Why not get partial dreadlocks? Say a toe or two underneath? The that way they can be covered by your loose hair.
I want your pink dreads!!!!!
is it easier to do dreads on yourself or have someone else do them for you?
Kyndall Stocker always easier with help~
Can u come to sac to do my dreads
It's been about 2 weeks with mine, I twist and ripped but pretty much all of them came undone, I still have the rubber bands on
but some fall or break and I replace them
i'm reluctant to start over because my hair is still sectioned underneath my rubber bands and some of my hair has started forming little loops even though my twists came undone
any advice?
HEY pls help. my bottom one is not as losose as i thought it would b. how do i get it not SO TIGHT !?!?!? ;I
Jocelyn Priest i know this was a year ago, but having it tight is good. If you still have your dreads the pain is probably gone at this point.
