First, not true. I had a chance to see propaganda on both sides. Indian propaganda is crazy extreme. Its like a constant war drum in everything you watch.... I'm not saying that there isn't pakistani propaganda... Regardless, Its not helping either side. We could easily build bridges by just changing the tone of media dialogue.

The long and short of it is that Kashmir was deliberately left ambiguous by the English.

    • @desidark1243
      @desidark1243 5 років тому +78

Absolutely not, Kashmir was an independent kingdom with it's own Maharaja who had the option to choose to join India, Pakistan, or remain independent. After Pakistan started sending over armed insurgents into Kashmir to topple the Maharaja so that he didn't end up choosing India (He was a Hindu, so they were very concerned that he would out of religious allegiance), the Maharaja retaliated by requesting the Indian military for help in pushing back terrorists from infiltrating his kingdom. He chose to join India. Ironically, he might have chosen to stay independent, and there was indication that he would, had Pakistan not jumped the gun and decided that terrorism was the appropriate response to democratic process. The Indian army pushed back against Pakistan and regained 2/3 of the territory, and that became the modern day division of Kashmir - 2/3 remains with India, 1/3 with Pakistan.
The second war was literally started for the same reason. I'm not making this up you can verify these facts incredibly easily. India had just lost a war to China in 1962, so Pakistan was convinced that they were weak and could not fight back. In 1965 Pakistan launched 40 000 armed (non-military aka terrorist) insurgents into Kashmir for round 2. They codenamed this plan "Operation Gibraltar" to refer to the Muslim invasion of Spain that was launched from the port of Gibraltar.
There are more conflicts that follow the same pattern - Pakistan launches an invasion of Kashmir, pretends that it's just rebels and not Pakistani military, get's called out when internal documents and organizational plans leak, the UN has to intervene and negotiate a ceasefire because the Pakistanis are on the brink of losing a war they started.
So you tell me what is ambiguous about the situation in Kashmir? The Independent Maharaja of Kashmir chose to join India, Pakistan decided that territory mattered more than democracy, tried to annex Kashmir, India interfered and pushed them back.

+Rohit singh.....we can clearly see the difference in the mindset of young generation. the previous 2 generations purely hated each other but many in the current generation wants a reunion because they can see a bright future if the reunion happens. mostly because the current generation are educated and are aware of the history we had together.
but the problem is, many are not openly admitting this out of ego. like if we take the example of you tube, if someone commented positive, the replies following will be positive but in middle a negative comment appears and all the following comments turns negative. so the main problem is the ego. but a reunion is possible in the future maybe 50-100 years because the only possible way for us to remain strong in the competitive future is a reunion.

Ohios Finest ... I've read some of the history ... definitely divide and conquer but also much more complicated ...doing readings, I encountered this statement (paraphrased): the greatest accomplishment of colonial rule was the edifice of institutionalized intellectual discourse used to convince the colonized that they had no history and were intrinsically barbaric, uncontrollably religious and inferior to the colonizer. --- Talking to my father who lived in colonial india, his stories of education in british indian schools was very very enlightening.... the real nuance is in how the British institutionalized this colonial education system that eventually led to the Hindu Muslim split.

Correction: Radcliffe didn't draw a line for all princely states (including Kashmir) because the princely states were sort of autonomous. India and Pakistan also gained Independence in the midnight between the 14th of August and the 15th of August. India did not gain independence a whole day later. "Indian empire" ??? India wasn't an empire at the time; itself was a colony of the British.
In fact the British created both Pakistan & India. Prior WW2 there was no country named "India"; the name "india" was the creation of the British. Before thr British ruled "india" the northern half of it(pakistan included) was rulled by the Persians and it was called "Hindustan". The souther part of the subcontinent was a different country called Dravidia. Thr British joined Dravidia & Hindustan and creayed a new country called "India" which was later further divided to Pakistan & Bangladesh (or as it used be known Eastern Pakistan, & todays Pakistan was known as "Western Pakistan").

India provided shelter to the refugees and in the last 1 month of a 9 months long liberation war, they came in with their military, by when it was already clear that Bangladesh is going to win the war. Stop lying Aljazeera. Know the facts and don't alter history. If you say it in Bangladesh that liberation was a result of Indo-Pak war, you would be beaten to death by people. AFRIDI 1 true kashmir is Muslim majority. Unfortunately Kashmir was not under direct British control and decision was left to maharaja.
The rule was Muslim majority provinces under DIRECT British control were to go to Pakistan. Princely states had their freedom to choose. It's not like Pakistan has claim over all Muslim majority provinces in the entire world is it?
However Pakistan wanted to force the maharaja and sent lashkars from kpk region . This forced maharaja to take Indian protection.
That is why UN said Pakistan and India should withdraw its forces for plebiscite to be held. Pakistan did not withdraw forces at that time despite being the one to start the fight. So plebiscite could not be held
Hence Indian government negotiated with representatives of the kashmiri people in India at the time, Sheik Abdullah who agreed to become part of India with increased autonomy. That's why kashmir is integral part of India. Because we did it the legal fair and transparent manner . We did not send savage tribesmen to get what we want
That's why in 1965 operation Gibraltar of Pak army failed. They tried to make kashmiri people revolt by sending commandos. Kashmiris responded by handing over the commandos to Indian army.

Then go and read about Independence of India act. Go to the provisions regarding princely states. Once you have done that then type comments about me reading up my history. Deal?
PS : Oh since your an afridi I'm assuming your a pathan. So you must be knowing about Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan. The giant among Pashtuns. Go read what he has to say about partition. You might find it interesting.

Watcher Node There were several other independent states in India under the British Raj such as Mysore Travancore, Rajputana, Tripura and notably, Hyderabad. The Nizam of Hyderabad wanted to remain independent but India annexed it. Pakistan tried to do the same with Kashmir but only could take a third of it.

Murmad Man ask the old people if they wanted partition. They say no. Its the younger generation which has been filled with hate even though they never saw partition

Pakistanis continue to support the talibans, lashkar-e-Taiba, Al Qaeda etc. They continue to infiltrate Indian side of Kashmir and instigate youths into millitancy.. Yes, Imran khan wants peace but he is not all powerful in Pakistan.. Pakistan military won't allow peace.. Don't tag it on Modi.. He's just defending our country.. Enough innocent Indians have already died..
