But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*
Even though I wasn’t diagnosed with diabetus until 1990,when I was about 55, my doctor thought I had it at least 10 years before that based on my sugar level- I hadn’t been to a doctor prior since the 1970’s and just started having slow healing wounds and nerve damage in my feet in the late 1980’s. The moral here is you can go a long time having diabetus without having symptoms. So it’s good to get checkups. I wish I did

I was very tired all the time, but never thought to attribute it to diabetes. I was very overweight and had sleep apnea, and thought to myself, "Oh, I'm just really tired because I have sleep apnea." This was happening since 2012 and I was not officially diagnosed with Type 2 until 2019.
I suffer from thrush & when I have too much sweets the sugar somehow starts leeking into my mouth several hours after I've had them & I'll taste sugar for a long time & my mouth will just always taste sweet. Must be some sort of evelutionary failsafe. I don't think I have diabetes though lol
We'd highly recommend speaking to your GP about your symptoms so that you can get a diagnosis and appropriate treatment. If you need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 0345 123 2399 Mon- Fri 9am-6pm, or email us at helpline@diabetes.org.uk 💙
I’m having tingly feelings in my hands and arms, I’m feeling very tired, I’m very thirsty, and I’m ver inactive. Should I be concerned? I think the tiredness part is because I stayed up until 1 AM last night and got up at 6 but I’m still worried

Hi, I am curious to know how we can protect our body from getting this disease / malfunctioning of pancrease and insulin? What steps should I follow? Should I test my glucose level on daily basis? P.S Currently , I'm not facing any symptoms but I want to be precautious. Your help will be appreciated .
Tests are pretty expensive at least here in my country (Slovakia) and If you don't really have any symptoms or it doesn't run in your family then that would be a waste and If you have symptoms, go visit a doctor
You could get a glucose meter from a pharmacy or online. I would recommend checking glucose levels in the morning and fasting and 2 hours after meals to see how well your pancreas is working.
One question! How do we prevent ourself from getting diabetics when our parents got them.. But i dont often drink or eat sweets, i did once.. checked my sugar level, anx its only 2.. soo is it below normal sugar level??? I am afraid of eating sweets often, but once in awhile.. maybe few times a week, k would eat snacks or drinks with very very high sugars.. maybe its called sweet tooth.. my taste for sweets are higher than my husband and i know its not healthy
Rasna, there's information about how to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes (and how to find out your own risk) on our website here: www.diabetes.org.uk/diabetes-the-basics/types-of-diabetes/type-2/preventing And our helpline is there for further advice and support. Tel: 0345 123 2399, Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm.
Fun fact I have type 1 an I'm 12 and even I know we go off ratios because when we are first diagnosed our pancreas isn't fully dead but slowly dying so it still sends insulin but we have to inject to make sure we dont go too high since our pancreas isn't sending enough
Hi im jessica and i got diabeties *type one* when i was seven so three years ago, and just for awarness, NO WE DID NOT GET DIABETIES BY EATING SWEETS AND NO WE ARE NOT LUCKY.
How is it that doctors know for sure that you are indeed diabetic and not, for example, just eating too much sugar your body does not need (so it stays in the blood, instead of going into cells that are already supplied with enough sugar)????
Hi @TanjaVK1968 - The main blood test used for diagnosing diabetes is called the HbA1c test. HbA1c is what’s known as glycated haemoglobin. This is something that’s made when the glucose (sugar) in your body sticks to your red blood cells. Your body can’t use the sugar properly, so more of it sticks to your blood cells and builds up in your blood. Red blood cells are active for around 2-3 months, which is why the reading is taken quarterly (very different from finger-pricking). 💙
@@diabetesuk thanks..but i still dont get it. So this test shows that your body cannot process sugar normally. But does it shows WHY (because body is stuffed already with EXCESSIVEsugar OR body cannot process ANY sugar)?? Because if it is too much sugar - the answer is proper diet and not medications.
@@TanjaVK1968 Making dietary changes such as reducing the consumption of added sugars (not naturally occuring sugars) and processed carbs can make a difference, but some people require the extra help from medication if the natural insulin in the body is not doing its job or even when the pancreas itself is not functioning correctly. It really depends on the individual, and for many people with type 2 diabetes, medication is not a permanent treatment (unlike type 1 diabetes where you are on insulin indefinitely).
This is supposed to be the updated version of ua-cam.com/video/Oq5J9CAI2hY/v-deo.html however, the previous video is in BSL with subtitles but video is clearly only for hearing people. This isn't fair!
