Wow, the origin story of eyeball tattoos is wild! I personally would never get one. I think they’re too much.

I think eyeball/eyelid tattoos are unnecessary and dangerous. I wouldn't want needles so close to my eyes. Colored contact lenses are a much better (safer) option. You can change the color of your eyes anytime you want, and mix them up if you want. I have several pairs of colored lenses, and it's fun to wear them (or not) to clubs, parties, and even work. Once the eyeball is tattooed, the color can't be changed, and you're stuck with that color for the rest of your life, and may have vision problems down the road. I'll play it safe with the contacts. (Jan Griffiths).

This is what happens when boring assed normies like me even have tattoos. 25 years ago these types of folks would just get a face tattoo to stand out. Now to go above and beyond to stand out in the crowd they have to do extreme body modifications that have long term ramifications to stand out.

👁 really like the concept of coloured eyeballs on some people (like Grace for instance), but the practicallity behind it, the risks associated with them, it’s definitely not for me. And I am convinced the world (general population) is definitely not ready for this. Tattoos and piercings are becoming more mainstream every day, but having a different color in your eyes is just something that feels far more unnatural and is way harder to grasps.
But hey, perhaps in another twenty years it might just be te most normal thing around 😅

And sclera lenses are available to change the color of the eye whites, if that's what you want. They're a little bit more difficult to place than regular contacts, but still a safer option. (Jan Griffiths).

imho eyeball tattoos look beautiful and give the wearer a very unique look no matter the color. it's definitely a procedure i'd get if it wasn't so risky and visible. you can laser or hide tattoos, but eyeballs? that's totally different. to each their own, but i think i'll stick to contacts for a while

Speaking of eyelid tattoos, when I first watched Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark as a kid, I thought that student wrote on her eyelids with a ballpoint pen and I was like “that must have hurt”. I recently watched the movie again and realized it must have been written on with makeup. But if the child version of myself thought a pen to the eyelid sounded painful, I don’t even know what I would have thought of eyelid or eyeball tattoos.

While I love the visuals of eyeball tattoos, I could never get one even if it matched my personal vibe. I am super scared of losing my vision since I rely heavily on my sight as an artist. I have literal nightmares about going blind, so I can't imagine even taking the smallest risk voluntarily, let alone have a needle come into contact with my eyes. I probably wouldn't even get tattoos around the eye area, so no eyelid tattoos or permanent eyeliner for me lol

I’m a big supporter of “you do you” and absolutely love tattoos, but I think this topic would raise a lot of tricky questions for me if I were a tattoo artist (which sadly I’m not!). With relatively limited information and experience with these risks, is it ethical at all to offer this as a service? If we think it is- what questions do I ask a client to feel confident that they fully understand the risks as I understand them? How can I tell whether or not my client has carefully weighed these risks up against how important getting this tattoo is to them? In what circumstances (and how) might I decide that the benefits do outweigh the risks? If a client has made a considered decision and values getting this tattoo more than losing their eye or sight- do I have the right to not provide this service that I’m offering? Should I ever involve anyone else in the decision-making for my client? Are these all stupid questions??? TLDR: ❤️👁🤔🤷🏻‍♀️

If you're going to be a tattoo artist it is within your rights to say: here's a list of things I will do for you and here's a list of things I don't do. For example, I'd say if you're wise, you refuse to tattoo hate symbols and a lot of people won't tattoo genitalia. You can refuse to do white tattoos (they're often problematic) and you can definitely refuse to do eyeball tattoos. There may also be local ordnances or state laws that prohibit you from doing eyeball tattoos.

👁 I totally agree with you. Grace Neutral’s eyes are beautiful, but I actually found them a bit freaky at first. I won’t judge anyone who has their eyeballs tattooed but I wouldn’t ever even consider something like that, it’s too dangerous and I like having a job. Also the idea of needles near my eye makes me shudder. To each their own though, people should do what makes them happy as long as it’s with caution

A polish girl lost her vision not only because the guy doing it had no idea what he was doing, but he was also using a kind of ink that is not supposed to be used in eyeball tattoos.
The question is; how dangerous is eyeball tattooing if the procedure is done right?

as much as i love tats i think needles shouldn’t go anywhere near the eye in general both scleras and eyelids. they are far too dangerous and usually not worth it since you can achieve the same exact look with contacts and makeup and then take them right off. also eyelid tats aren’t as safe as it’s thought because there’s a serious risk of scratching and damaging the eyeball with the needle anyway since the skin there is so thin, and all it takes is an artist that’s a bit too heavy handed to end up with serious eye damage. just don’t tatto your eyes kids 🤷🏻‍♂️

I personally really like eyeball tattoo, although I don't like many colors or too much saturated just because the risk it's involved. And as you said, it's a extreme body modification, I don't think this is for anyone, even for this channel public.

When I was 17 I fell COMPLETELY in love with Grace and honestly still am. But at that time I thought her eyes were so beautiful that I wanted mine done so bad. Now at 25, I really don’t want tatted eyes because it’s just too risky. But if I could somewhere in an alternate universe have eyes like Grace, I would do it.

I feel like dark grey or black scleral tats fall into the uncanny valley. It's very unsettling. I do really respect the OG artist for telling people that before agreeing to do it. As humans, we rely so much on eye expression, and you lose that if tatting a dark color. Still "your body, your choice" on the matter, I just don't think it's a good idea personally; not worth the risk imo. Also I've had a serious eye injury and it was literally the worst pain in my life, would not do that again lol 😅 👁

my eyes are the one part of my body i’ve never disliked even for a moment. i’m blessed to have been born with rare eye colors (i have heterochromia). i can’t even imagine wanting to permanently change my eye colors in any way, let alone with a procedure that’s so risky! besides there are multiple fun colored eye contacts, including sclera contacts, so idk why people don’t just invest in those instead.

oh jeesh, the colored eyeball tats remind me so much of at least two fictional alien species i made up. and the black sclera has SUCH demon vibes. love that haha
so like, i can see why people would get it! if someone is into extreme bodymodding like that and doesn't mind the risk of going blind as well as the permanence of it, why not. whatever. go wild. but make sure you won't regret it first. go through that trial period, wear those contact lenses. see if you like it in your daily life. this is a rather extreme decision, after all.
and is it for me personally? nah, actually. absolutely not. no thanks.
i can imagine at least one of my friends would, but personally i am perfectly fine with the look of my natural eyes.
