Personally i feel like they are commentary on how elitist the tattoo community has become, as well as a rebel against the idea that tattoos must be deeply and personally meaningful, they are all about not taking yourself too seriously, they are humourus and thays what makes them wonderful
yeah to each their own, but for me a tattoo is really at it's best when it's aesthetic pleasing and enhancing to your overal look, which the "ignorant" tattoo style really isn't for me.

I don't see joining a trend as real rebellion. It is still informed by the thing supposedly rebelled against. True rebellion is doing what one wishes, regardless of whether it is mainstream or not.

They just are, it just is, it has nothing to do with your personal perspective on the matter, let alone your opinion on it being "mainstream", also, anyone judging anything, solely on that thing being popularized, is easy to fall into the same category as the person following the trend(the new trend being that you don't participate in said trtend). 📓 I actually REALLY LOVE ignorant style tattoos but the ones I’ve always been drawn to are the ones with straight clean lines or the ones where the “wonky” lines are more clearly purposefully done and you can tell they’re intentional and not just a scratcher tattoo. I feel like they can be really avant garde and as someone who loves questioning “what makes something art and something not art” it’s really an interesting philosophical conversation of what makes a good tattoo and I love that. Imo, get whatever you want. If you choose to get a racist or offensive tattoo, that only reflects badly on yourself. It's a nice way to tell apart the psychos.

i think that's the point. there's no difference between the ones that are bad on purpose or the ones that are bad on accident or the ones that are good, as long as they make the canvas happy they are good tattoos
ignorant style tattoos are by far my favorite and i think there is a major difference between "bad" and "ignorant". for me, i think it heavily relies on style and lineweight!
Just a heads up, that painting you showed with the happy face and crown that looks like a Basquiat painting was actually painted by an artist called Ryca. He did a couple of those paintings back in 2019 I believe. I actually have that painting tattooed on my ankle lol
The Basquiat an amazing painter and friend of Andy Warhol died in 1988. Someone doing remakes of his style goes against everything he stood for as a painter.

This was the first tattoo style I was drawn to getting done! Love learning its origins and that it even has a name, for me I always enjoyed the freedom and creativity that came across in so many artists designs, not a fan of intentionally "bad" or "shock art" ones, but so many other artist bring an element of surrealism to the tattoo world
I have a tattoo that would probably be considered an “ignorant” tattoo. It is a smiley face my son drew when he was a toddler, my sister tattooed it on me at her kitchen table (she’s slightly trained 🤣). We were going to have my son (now 14) tattoo some of it but he had other obligations that night. I hope to have him sign it next time we are visiting my sister. ❤️
While I appreciate the attempt to legitimize these styles I feel this sort of intellectualizing them as rebellion isn’t really the case. Most of the time people just genuinely like these aesthetics. Particularly artists in my queer (especially the trans) community where tattooing is often a communal act with each other instead of just a transactional art form. This video feels more like art critics in the 80s not understanding “outsider art” and instead of accepting that people like different things and things can be beautiful outside of structural aesthetics they just make these round about reasons for why someone would do something in that way.

In the Bay Area , especially in the communities you are speaking of , this style has been popular for a looong time. I’ve seen it for decades & myself have tattoos in this style I guess for over 10 years . I never thought they were “ignorant” .. a lot of artists just like tattoos like this 🧡 📓
@@baby.nay. yeah, many of the pieces they’re showing are just influenced by early modernism. Which I guess would technically be “ignorant” works. 2003 is a wildly random place to start. And then the last artists shown are just comedic minimalism and aren’t even connected to the rest of the video. I think people just don’t realize the breadth of tattoo art that exists and the types of marks you can make so anything beyond what’s expected feels edgy because traditionalist tattoo world is just 200 years behind the rest of art history. I really hope that when researching these videos this person starts to look towards the broader art history and out of the backwards thinking traditionalism of popular tattoo culture.
Every artistic trend is a reaction to what went before. It is inaccurate to frame ignorant art as anything revolutionary in this, especially in the context of tattooing. As soon as a movement gains in popularity, it loses its impetus as a counterpoint and simply becomes another style.
There are some articles about "malfeitona", she is Brazilian and has some pretty fun examples, although I wouldn't say she actually go for the specific style, she definitely naturally went for it. And I find it very interesting that after the ultra realistic and neo traditional saturation we go back to the opposing way. That happens in a lot of media and I love it! *Notes emote here*

I have an entire leg of ignorant-style/shock art tattoos that iv done myself. I honestly love it but I wouldn't want it everywhere personally but I'm glad to see the style getting more attention

I saw a good number of works in this style that have really timeless themes and symbols. Some of them remind me of medieval miniatures or graphic works of Matisse or Picasso. Or kids’ drawings which are the most timeless form of art in my opinion)
I’m a ignorant tattoo artist and a lot of my clients or freinds come to me because they like the randomness and not so much intricate details also the style stems from prison culture ! And I believe there are tattoo styles for everyone I wouldn’t go to a realism tattoo artist for just line work because they think to deep into it and try to add onto it or they actually tattoo too deep and it heals thicker then desired . Just like I would never ever do a tattoo that I know I cannot do ! But a lot of ppl just got into tattoos during quarantine and are oversaturating the hashtag 😑
Makes me think of Lil peep, a lot of people who don't know him will think his tattoos are strange or "ignorant" but when you know him you really appreciate the story and the art
i disagree on the part of "shock art". ignorant tattoos to me questions what is beauty and even attempts to question the perennity of our bodies and how we deal with "everlasting" things, and finally our relationship with death.

I really like this style. I'm really tired of "tattoo snobs" making fun of other people's tattoos for being "bad." If the wearer likes it, that should be all that matters. I remember when I was a teenager, there was this boy who had a bunch of really poorly executed, home made tattoos covering his chest, and I thought it looked so cool. Much cooler than if he had had it done at a shop, and they were perfectly placed and executed. I have a lot of friends that been to prison, and I love a lot of their prison tats, even though they aren't high quality. Sometimes the meaning behind a tattoo is more than just how it turned out, but also where you were when you got it, and who you were with. I do think it's kind of pretentious to go to a tattoo shop, and intentionally get a tattoo that looks home made, though.
there is also a lot of back last against ignorant style in the tattoo community. I believe that this style emerged from the punk era when it was popular to get stick and poked in basements..buy tattoo machines online etc. It was originally a very under ground scene. the issue with it now, is that well established artists are specializing in this style and are charging astronomical prices. compared to artists doing full sleeves, heavy black work, portraits, full color etc...this is a slap in the face.

As someone who's been thinking about getting tattoed for the last 10 years, but couldn't find anything meaningful or that i liked enough, at this point i could get one of those meme tattoos and not regret it honestly. I think it comes mainly to the personality, but then if you've exhausted your long search for a tattoo and can't find or think of anything i think you'd be more inclined to get one of these ignorant style tattoos.
A long time ago I got my hands in a tattoo gun now I have lots of ignorant tattoos all over me! At first I did regret them but it was a time in my life and I'm glad to see them as a style.
I have a handful of tattoos, only some of which hold any 'special' significance. I do get fed up with the common question "what's the meaning behind it though?" when for me really it's just aesthetically and artistically pleasing to have somebody else's artwork on my body. I like how the ignorant style (not exclusively...) often rejects this need/expectation for symbolic or personal meaning in favour of championing the art for art's sake. Art is ultimately subjective, so whatever people enjoy varies enormously from person to person, group to group, etc. I can't quite say any of mine fit within the ignorant style per se, but I've definitely got some odd looking flash pieces just because I liked em! Nice and informative video!
Personally, I think it's trendy and gives many "artists" a platform to show their work. I've been following it for a while, and still think most people will get their ignorant tattoos covered. I don't think tattoos have to have meaning, but traditional, Japanese, realism, etc will never go out of style and will most likely not be regretted as an ignorant tattoo would. To whoever is covered in ignorant style tattoos, more power to you. I hope you enjoy it. I'll stick to traditional American/Japanese. If it matters my torso is done and I have a leg sleeve and foot, with an arm sleeve coming soon.

I think art is art, and style is subjective to the artist. Like other people said, there are probably a lot of not-so-good tattoos done by non-artists that maybe just started or never learned how to properly tattoo, and unfortunately get labeled as “ignorant tattoos,” but that is up to the person viewing the tattoo to understand the difference.
Love it. Seeing Steve-o back in the day get tattoos just because they were funny gave me a deep appreciation for any tattoo that is "shitty" on purpose
I got a tattoo by one of the artists you showed, and honestly I felt way more at ease with that person and it’s one of my favourite tattoos because of how silly it is. I’m glad ignorant tattoo styles are being appreciated.
I unironically love ignorant tattoo style, it looks so simple and creative to me. It often speaks to me more than other tattoo styles. Especially the corner of it that is very charming and minimal and sweet.
As a retired tattoo artist I absolutely despise “ignorant style” tattoos. Tattooing is not “just another medium” we are dealing with a lot more than just paint or pigment and canvas or paper, there are real consequences to not being apprenticed (trained) and the fact that someone thinks otherwise just proves the name of this style, “ignorant” and in this case that ignorance should not be glorified
All throughout the first part when she showed different ignorant style tattoos from insta I was like "how is she not showing autochrist?" And the later I saw he gets his own section in the video hahaha. I actually got tatted by him, it was quite a unique experience lol
some of the ignorant tattoos you showed look intentional at least and so they might be a bit silly or cartoony but they at least look like the are intentional. i don't like the ones that look like complete chicken scratch though because if i wanted trash on my body, why would i pay for someone to do it? at the end of the day everyone has a right to get whatever they want on themselves and pay for it even if i think its dumb, it doesn't affect me in the least.

I work with someone that comes in every few weeks with around 5 new tattoos. They are all super small and consist of a few simple lines to makeup a tiny image. They look like stamps or doodles, but supposedly have some deep philosophical meaning. Art is a pretty broad topic.

I have 2 ‘medium’ sized tattoos and am going to be getting another in a few days all of whom are by artists that I really love, I think I would only get an ignorant style tattoo when I start to fill my body a bit more! I really hate this stereotype that these tattoos have, we are here for a good time not a long time, if we aren’t personally attacking anyone it doesn’t matter ☺️

i love ignorant tattoos, as a tattooer. theres so much freedom in it. but i've always been more attracted to experiments, abstraction and textures. theres so much elitism in tattoos, but art is more than we can even dream. my favorite ignorant tattoo artist is Dirtyl00ks or frog_magick. both of them have distinct styles, and while they mostly do "bad" tattoos, if you go through their page you will find things that take great skill. maybe it's because i grew up on picasso, but i love an artist who could paint a hyperrealistic oil portrait but chooses to draw something "bad". it's emotional and in their small drawing you can see it point towards a bigger world.
In all art, regardless of the media or style, there are always people who go against the grain. People who reject the typical aesthetics of beauty and form in favor of a message or a kind of rebellion against the more popular and "normal" ways of doing things. I personally really dislike this style, but I think it's awesome that there are people who do this and follow the artistic path they they feel is right for them. Not a fan, but fully support it.
I'm kind of surprised to hear there is no design in this kind of tatoo, with shaky lines. I was drawing like this in art school, still drawing and nobody let me feel I was irevellant to draw like that. I found inspiration in Picasso, Basquiat, Schiele and many artists' drawings who doesn't have pure, straight line. I can draw in a very hyper realistic, but it bothers me, it's not creative or fun enough for me. Picasso said he spent his life to draw and paint well, and to unlearn everything he knew to draw like a child. I'm sure most of the ignorant style tattoo artists draw very well, but they choose an other way to express themselves. I don't come from the tattoo world, I'm not from Us, but I feel there is a good way or bad way, very black and white, the good and the evil there. In France, in the art world, I learnt freedom of expression is very important, and every form of expression count because we're all unique. Gonna get a ignorant tattoo soon, it's a pigeon sitting on a Molotov cocktail It's from an artist that similar to the last two. He does clean tattoos and the lines are good but the designs are ironic and kinda funny and dumb and I love that
I kinda get it. But that doesn’t change the fact these tattoos look like they were done in a kitchen because your buddy bought a machine online. That might be the point. But it does give off the impression that those with those tattoos aren’t thinking long term. Like, I’m not gonna trust someone who looks like they don’t care about sanitation (because it looks like it was done without care)
Very interesting! I think there are very cool ignorant tattoos but I personally don't like the really wacky lines. I once saw a tattoo with a rainbow and the word c*nt and I thought it was hilarious but I would never get smth like this. My next tattoo was on a ignorant flash sheet but idk if I'd consider it ignorant after this video because it has normal good lines it's just not shaded. It's a cartoony turtle with a snail on top! I think it's like what you talked about like ignorant style but with attention to line work etc. I like that many ignorant style tattoos are funny
I think the ignorant tattoo Style is often confused with anti-Style where they are purposely Made with ugly lines where with ignorant tattoos they Mostly still have clean lines
I have some ignorant tattoos too :P Its´ like the "antistyle" of graffiti where you dont paint proportional letters anymore , cause everyone does it...and it gets boring . Or Rock n roll in the 1950-1960...against the general conservative mindset . Or Abstract paintings to shock the art game. It was also very conservative. Breaking the rules means freedom and in my opinion it is a logical way of evolution in all kind of arts. Whenever a general accepted social consensus exists , there will be people who will try to break out of it. Its a way to show the world "fuck your perceptions and norms , i do what I want" 😁 It´s historical successfull overall 😁

Okay so what I planned is pretty much that style tattoo, I want a dainty forget me not wreath with Pingu inside, with full noot extended breaking the wreath.. and then above in a cute lettering style it'll say 'forget me' and if you know you know 😅
I feel like ignorant tattoos have actually gotten pretty popular, which seems to conflict with the original meaning behind the style. I like them when they're funny or really creative and when they have good composition and linework. I'm not a fan of the ones that look like they were done by a kid; I like my art to look like it was done by an artist, but to each their own.
I guess my favourite thing about ignorant style is that it LOOKS LIKE it was made by an amateur, when in fact it wasn't. So if you're into the style, by going to a reputable artist you can get the good part of it (this humorous ironic look) without any of the bad consequences (infections, blowouts etc) of a "real" amateur tattoo.
I always called this "clipart tattoo's" because it reminds me of old school clipart 📓 That headstone tattoo lmaoo. It was cool to see the background on this style and the variety within it. I'm all for ppl doing what they want with themselves but man... theres a few i just really can't understand lol

And then the last artists shown are just comedic minimalism and aren’t even connected to the rest of the video.
I think people just don’t realize the breadth of tattoo art that exists and the types of marks you can make so anything beyond what’s expected feels edgy because traditionalist tattoo world is just 200 years behind the rest of art history. I really hope that when researching these videos this person starts to look towards the broader art history and out of the backwards thinking traditionalism of popular tattoo culture.

Every artistic trend is a reaction to what went before. It is inaccurate to frame ignorant art as anything revolutionary in this, especially in the context of tattooing. As soon as a movement gains in popularity, it loses its impetus as a counterpoint and simply becomes another style.
There are some articles about "malfeitona", she is Brazilian and has some pretty fun examples, although I wouldn't say she actually go for the specific style, she definitely naturally went for it.
And I find it very interesting that after the ultra realistic and neo traditional saturation we go back to the opposing way. That happens in a lot of media and I love it!

📓 I like some ignorant style artists, but I probably wouldn't get a tattoo in that style. I just don't think I'd enjoy having that on me for life. I want shading and and images that are timeless to me. Ignorant tattoos often seem like they're memes

I saw a good number of works in this style that have really timeless themes and symbols. Some of them remind me of medieval miniatures or graphic works of Matisse or Picasso. Or kids’ drawings which are the most timeless form of art in my opinion)
I’m a ignorant tattoo artist and a lot of my clients or freinds come to me because they like the randomness and not so much intricate details also the style stems from prison culture ! And I believe there are tattoo styles for everyone I wouldn’t go to a realism tattoo artist for just line work because they think to deep into it and try to add onto it or they actually tattoo too deep and it heals thicker then desired . Just like I would never ever do a tattoo that I know I cannot do ! But a lot of ppl just got into tattoos during quarantine and are oversaturating the hashtag 😑
Makes me think of Lil peep, a lot of people who don't know him will think his tattoos are strange or "ignorant" but when you know him you really appreciate the story and the art

i disagree on the part of "shock art". ignorant tattoos to me questions what is beauty and even attempts to question the perennity of our bodies and how we deal with "everlasting" things, and finally our relationship with death.
I think the ignorant style is soooo cool. It reminds me of outsider art which I also am a huge fan of. Im definitely getting some ignorant style tattoos
I really like this style. I'm really tired of "tattoo snobs" making fun of other people's tattoos for being "bad." If the wearer likes it, that should be all that matters. I remember when I was a teenager, there was this boy who had a bunch of really poorly executed, home made tattoos covering his chest, and I thought it looked so cool. Much cooler than if he had had it done at a shop, and they were perfectly placed and executed. I have a lot of friends that been to prison, and I love a lot of their prison tats, even though they aren't high quality. Sometimes the meaning behind a tattoo is more than just how it turned out, but also where you were when you got it, and who you were with. I do think it's kind of pretentious to go to a tattoo shop, and intentionally get a tattoo that looks home made, though.
there is also a lot of back last against ignorant style in the tattoo community. I believe that this style emerged from the punk era when it was popular to get stick and poked in basements..buy tattoo machines online etc. It was originally a very under ground scene. the issue with it now, is that well established artists are specializing in this style and are charging astronomical prices. compared to artists doing full sleeves, heavy black work, portraits, full color etc...this is a slap in the face.

As someone who's been thinking about getting tattoed for the last 10 years, but couldn't find anything meaningful or that i liked enough, at this point i could get one of those meme tattoos and not regret it honestly. I think it comes mainly to the personality, but then if you've exhausted your long search for a tattoo and can't find or think of anything i think you'd be more inclined to get one of these ignorant style tattoos.
A long time ago I got my hands in a tattoo gun now I have lots of ignorant tattoos all over me! At first I did regret them but it was a time in my life and I'm glad to see them as a style.
Im not a fan of the aesthetics, i don´t really get why anyone would get a bad tatoo on purpose but i guess there is a person for everything.
I have a handful of tattoos, only some of which hold any 'special' significance. I do get fed up with the common question "what's the meaning behind it though?" when for me really it's just aesthetically and artistically pleasing to have somebody else's artwork on my body. I like how the ignorant style (not exclusively...) often rejects this need/expectation for symbolic or personal meaning in favour of championing the art for art's sake. Art is ultimately subjective, so whatever people enjoy varies enormously from person to person, group to group, etc. I can't quite say any of mine fit within the ignorant style per se, but I've definitely got some odd looking flash pieces just because I liked em! Nice and informative video!

Personally, I think it's trendy and gives many "artists" a platform to show their work. I've been following it for a while, and still think most people will get their ignorant tattoos covered. I don't think tattoos have to have meaning, but traditional, Japanese, realism, etc will never go out of style and will most likely not be regretted as an ignorant tattoo would.
To whoever is covered in ignorant style tattoos, more power to you. I hope you enjoy it. I'll stick to traditional American/Japanese. If it matters my torso is done and I have a leg sleeve and foot, with an arm sleeve coming soon.

I think art is art, and style is subjective to the artist.
Like other people said, there are probably a lot of not-so-good tattoos done by non-artists that maybe just started or never learned how to properly tattoo, and unfortunately get labeled as “ignorant tattoos,” but that is up to the person viewing the tattoo to understand the difference.
I like the diy and stuck and poke anesthetics that have kind of merged with the ignorant tattoo style.
Love it. Seeing Steve-o back in the day get tattoos just because they were funny gave me a deep appreciation for any tattoo that is "shitty" on purpose
I got a tattoo by one of the artists you showed, and honestly I felt way more at ease with that person and it’s one of my favourite tattoos because of how silly it is. I’m glad ignorant tattoo styles are being appreciated.

I unironically love ignorant tattoo style, it looks so simple and creative to me. It often speaks to me more than other tattoo styles. Especially the corner of it that is very charming and minimal and sweet.

As a retired tattoo artist I absolutely despise “ignorant style” tattoos.
Tattooing is not “just another medium” we are dealing with a lot more than just paint or pigment and canvas or paper, there are real consequences to not being apprenticed (trained) and the fact that someone thinks otherwise just proves the name of this style, “ignorant” and in this case that ignorance should not be glorified

some of the ignorant tattoos you showed look intentional at least and so they might be a bit silly or cartoony but they at least look like the are intentional. i don't like the ones that look like complete chicken scratch though because if i wanted trash on my body, why would i pay for someone to do it? at the end of the day everyone has a right to get whatever they want on themselves and pay for it even if i think its dumb, it doesn't affect me in the least.
i don’t think they are ugly, i like weird tattoos way better than a lot of the others anyways.

funny, these “ignorant style” tattoos have been in the underground punk/hardcore/metal and skate scenes forever. long before that fuzi dude. gg alin’s grave tattoo is a more well known example.

I work with someone that comes in every few weeks with around 5 new tattoos. They are all super small and consist of a few simple lines to makeup a tiny image. They look like stamps or doodles, but supposedly have some deep philosophical meaning. Art is a pretty broad topic.

I have 2 ‘medium’ sized tattoos and am going to be getting another in a few days all of whom are by artists that I really love, I think I would only get an ignorant style tattoo when I start to fill my body a bit more! I really hate this stereotype that these tattoos have, we are here for a good time not a long time, if we aren’t personally attacking anyone it doesn’t matter ☺️

i love ignorant tattoos, as a tattooer. theres so much freedom in it. but i've always been more attracted to experiments, abstraction and textures. theres so much elitism in tattoos, but art is more than we can even dream. my favorite ignorant tattoo artist is Dirtyl00ks or frog_magick. both of them have distinct styles, and while they mostly do "bad" tattoos, if you go through their page you will find things that take great skill. maybe it's because i grew up on picasso, but i love an artist who could paint a hyperrealistic oil portrait but chooses to draw something "bad". it's emotional and in their small drawing you can see it point towards a bigger world.
In all art, regardless of the media or style, there are always people who go against the grain. People who reject the typical aesthetics of beauty and form in favor of a message or a kind of rebellion against the more popular and "normal" ways of doing things. I personally really dislike this style, but I think it's awesome that there are people who do this and follow the artistic path they they feel is right for them. Not a fan, but fully support it.
I have always been a fan of simple black work, so they make sense to me. They are a middle finger to the "you won't like that when you get old" crowd.

Most people I know with tatts have some tattoos like this, it’s more often an aesthetic rather than a statement IMO
I'm kind of surprised to hear there is no design in this kind of tatoo, with shaky lines. I was drawing like this in art school, still drawing and nobody let me feel I was irevellant to draw like that. I found inspiration in Picasso, Basquiat, Schiele and many artists' drawings who doesn't have pure, straight line. I can draw in a very hyper realistic, but it bothers me, it's not creative or fun enough for me. Picasso said he spent his life to draw and paint well, and to unlearn everything he knew to draw like a child. I'm sure most of the ignorant style tattoo artists draw very well, but they choose an other way to express themselves. I don't come from the tattoo world, I'm not from Us, but I feel there is a good way or bad way, very black and white, the good and the evil there. In France, in the art world, I learnt freedom of expression is very important, and every form of expression count because we're all unique. So there is a design in this artform of tatoo, a unique one Thanks for your videos, I love them 😘

It's from an artist that similar to the last two. He does clean tattoos and the lines are good but the designs are ironic and kinda funny and dumb and I love that
I kinda get it. But that doesn’t change the fact these tattoos look like they were done in a kitchen because your buddy bought a machine online.
That might be the point. But it does give off the impression that those with those tattoos aren’t thinking long term. Like, I’m not gonna trust someone who looks like they don’t care about sanitation (because it looks like it was done without care)
I would categorize it as more derivative of outsider art rather than neo expressionist art.

Very interesting! I think there are very cool ignorant tattoos but I personally don't like the really wacky lines. I once saw a tattoo with a rainbow and the word c*nt and I thought it was hilarious but I would never get smth like this. My next tattoo was on a ignorant flash sheet but idk if I'd consider it ignorant after this video because it has normal good lines it's just not shaded. It's a cartoony turtle with a snail on top! I think it's like what you talked about like ignorant style but with attention to line work etc. I like that many ignorant style tattoos are funny

I have some ignorant tattoos too :P Its´ like the "antistyle" of graffiti where you dont paint proportional letters anymore , cause everyone does it...and it gets boring . Or Rock n roll in the 1950-1960...against the general conservative mindset . Or Abstract paintings to shock the art game. It was also very conservative. Breaking the rules means freedom and in my opinion it is a logical way of evolution in all kind of arts. Whenever a general accepted social consensus exists , there will be people who will try to break out of it. Its a way to show the world "fuck your perceptions and norms , i do what I want" 😁 It´s historical successfull overall 😁
I have some and I love this style. It's such a screw-you to the elitism seen in some modern-day tattoo artists. Yeah I have tattoos that look like kids drew them forever and I love it!

I feel like ignorant tattoos have actually gotten pretty popular, which seems to conflict with the original meaning behind the style. I like them when they're funny or really creative and when they have good composition and linework. I'm not a fan of the ones that look like they were done by a kid; I like my art to look like it was done by an artist, but to each their own.
I guess my favourite thing about ignorant style is that it LOOKS LIKE it was made by an amateur, when in fact it wasn't. So if you're into the style, by going to a reputable artist you can get the good part of it (this humorous ironic look) without any of the bad consequences (infections, blowouts etc) of a "real" amateur tattoo.
