My SFV650 was lowered, so much that it would scrape going into my driveway or over speed bumps. Got some used OEM linkage since I could not find an aftermarket link to OEM spec (it was always slightly longer/shorter) and wanted to make sure it fits. So this video was nice to find, figured I could "figure it out" but now I have more confidence. Just got a front wheel holder for my truck so I can transport motorcycles, so that and my floor jack should make this easy! BTW did you find the torque spec and happen to remember? I might be doing this tonight. I still have OEM kickstand... bike sits almost vertical because of it and fell over once on the driveway from a blast of wind....
@@Mad8vCycles Almost done.... I had to pull the entire exaust to reach one of the bolts, I thought I had it from the other side but it was not the right bolt for the linkage. So had to tear the whole thing apart to get that one bolt, and while I was under there I found I am missing a nut! Luckily I got the OEM linkage and it included the whole thing. Now to find those specs for torque, got stuck in a massive rain storm and worked on it thru the rain. About had it at this point lol.
Just got a 2006 ninja 636. Unfortunately has aftermarket links. Out of 3 settings, it's in the middle hole, but with how big I am I need all the height I can get. Time to buy front wheel chock and stock dog bone.
I guess on the SV1000 K3 it's the same. Need to raise mine as the prev. owner lowered it as well. I'm 6'3 (193cm) and it is borderline OK but I notice that it is a wee bit to low.
@@Mad8vCycles Thanks for the offer but in the end it will be the same. $10 for the goods $20 for the shipping $20 for the import costs and tax The UK gov is takin' the piss to be honest, the EU didn't had a trading agreement with the USA, and neither does the UK since it left the union, however, import prices from good from the US seem to have doubled according 2 people I know.
Great video bud. I hate dealing with links. Nice torque wrench though! Looks way nicer than my harbor freight torque wrench. What brand is the one you have?
My SV looks li9ke they dropped the forks thru the clamps, is there any special way to put those back, or just undo the clamp bolts and drop em back down?
Excellent info. I enjoyed gaining some knowledge on how lowering a Vstrom actually works. It’s backwards from what most riders think.. Thank you..

@@ViciousXUSMC torque specs are in the service manual (you can download it pretty much everywhere)
Sucks they lowered it so much

Technically, you should torque the nuts, not the bolt, to avoid a false setting if the bolt stretches. 👍
good point. but the way the linkage is located, i can't get the torque wrench in behind them.
@@Mad8vCycles Just add 10% to the torque and you'll be fine.

The process is basically the same.
Here is what stock dogbones look like:

Rip :( yeah seems nuts to pay so much in fees
Will this adjustment make the chain looser or tighter?
@@zapatastyle just slightly because of the swingarm angle. But while youre there adjust the chain anyway.

Craftsman. Hf is.. scary
I have a riser link on my sv and a taller shock. It really helps with clearance 😈
Yeah I have sold a couple of those it really helps when you run a GSXR shock which is shorter

Pretty much undo them and raise the bike back up
Thank you
I'm not a particularly tall person but I'd prefer the better handling I bought mine lowered and just put it back
thanks
