I don't think you can call it ripping off the honda rune if honda is no longer selling the honda rune... It's a replica, or it's heavily inspired by the rune. Considering there's like 10 runes in Australia, I have no problem with someone producing a replica.
Here we have some cars in GWM and some of them look like copies of old Volkswagen's, the Ora 03 also known as the Funkycat looks a lot like a VW Beetle, they also have a brand called Wey and all their models are named after coffee

The idea of deactivating certain cylinder under certain conditions is becoming a thing in cars, some of the ford vehicles have a cylinder deactivation system where when a vehicle is on the highway at low RPM it shuts off I believe 2-4 cylinders for fuel savings. A motorcycle with this technology would be an amazing cruiser, idk if it would be a great commuter or track bike.
It's a been a thing in cars since the late 70s. I think there is a vtwin by Indian that has rear cylinder deactivation. And vespa scooters use to have stops start tech.
Ripping off an established design to sell what's popular is one thing I'm willing to accept. Ripping off what was basically an artistic passion project that very intentionally had no expected payoff or expense limits is an entirely different kind of soullessness. Absolutely, positively cannot get into it. Honda made the Rune for the love of the game.
I’ve read that in the Chinese culture, even long before they entered this period of industrialization, it’s not considered shameful to “rip off” someone else’s work. That negative connotation doesn’t even exist in their mind. In some cases it’s seen as complimentary to imitate. And they think that it’s a waste of time and resources to create from scratch something that already exists. It’s saying to the original designer “we don’t like what you made. We want to make something better”. They believe that it’s paying respect to someone to use the design that other person or company put so much effort into. I know it’s not how WE think!
Well, while it’s true that the concept of “ripping off” is not culturally relevant, the idea that producing original ideas is insulting or that copying is complimenting is not true. China has had one of the most centralized and standardized economies in the world for most of their history. The concept of intellectual property never really existed. If an idea came up, good or bad, and the authorities wanted things to be done that way, then everybody had to do things that way. If an idea came up, good or bad, and the authorities were against it, then it would not be done. Education is also very mimetic in China, as well as many other parts of East-Asia, as it has been in most societies for most of history. This tends to carry over into industrial endeavors. There are many other reasons why Chinese businesses tend to copy, but their history and education are two main factors.
Copyright and patent protection in themselves are shameful, especially when they are shelved and no one else is allowed to develop the ideas. There needs to be a time limit on these, say 3 years. All for protection of original ideas but within strict guidelines.
From what I understand copying is not seen as bad in China because they think its wasteful to do the exact same work twice. Tbh I don't think that theory is bad though in execution you get a lot of bad nockoffs.
Here, sport bikes are in a higher insurance category and all bikes over 500cc also get a bump in insurance rates. For a young dude, getting a 500cc or smaller sport bike could make the difference between being affordable or not. For example, a new ZX-6R would cost almost $2400/year versus $1700/yr for a Ninja ZX-4R.
"rough bubbles" i have never heard that term but i love it. Thanks for the great content Spite! As a CFMoto fanboy im really excited to see the 675 SS/NK and the 750cc I4 sounds like it could be a game changer for younger or budget conscious riders looking for something to compare with the R6 or Kaw 636. But as you said, gotta come correct!
Regarding the Honda Rune copy, in the UK and EU, there exists design registration specifically to protect your creation, but it has to be renewed every five years up to a maximum of 25 years. Since the Honda was a limited edition from 2004/5, I imagine Honda let the design registration lapse. There were rumours that Honda was going to resurrect and update the Rune for 2020, but nothing has been heard about that since. Perhaps that's why this clone has appeared now.
cfmoto 500 voom is available in most of the east asian and southeast asian countries. It is around 70bhp. if anyone is looking to get cfmoto bikes at a not so ripoff price outside of China, that would be Thailand, it is just about 15% to 20% more than the price in China. others like Indonesia is almost triple in the price.
The Honda CB400 is fairly rare in Australia, haven’t been sold for a while and very overpriced. GVM has become one of the biggest car companies in Australia, they have several brands like Haval
Triumph make the biggest production motorcycle engine - the Rocket 3. There is of course the Tomahawk and the Boss Hoss, but it's important to note that the engines in those were designed for cars, not motorcycles. You won't find a Rocket 3 engine in a production car.
3:58 well Yamaha kind of does this already for noise with their active exhaust. My MT 10 has an active exhaust where the valve is closed at low RPM but at high RPM it opens up all the way and everything changes.
Yeah, that's the butterfly valve in exhausts. But I'm talking more about actually changing the motor's operation versus just choking it up at certain RPMs
I took it off so I could install a new GPU brace. My 4090 was making this weird vibrating sound under load. Turns out it was just sagging. Gravity's a bitch
Oh, I have questions... Does buying a KLR 650 make me a nerd? or the smartest guy? Does having an liter bike still let me be cool even though I'm old? Why are we here other than to ride motorcycles? Will you hold me while I cry because I had to sell a motorcycle? Thanks for the content this year. I guess I can't hate on replica producers... I love my Vulcan900 and it is a total HD rip off... but low key it is actually a massive improvement over HD! So I can't be mad if someone rips off a Goldwing or a Rune or a GS or what have you.
I generally support what CFMoto is doing, but I did get a glimpse of the bike you are talking about, along with a few others. One company has a near perfect ripoff of the Goldwing. Not to mention the number of Grom clones available. Seems they really want to replicate a grab bag collection of Honda bikes.
When I was hearing about that cruiser all the publications were saying it's a goldwing but trying to beat it on the spec sheet and it certainly looks that way from the front. Curious on your thoughts on someone (so old I can't even remember who) was trying to patent thigh belts for cruiser bikes
You didn't get the CB400 VTEC in the US? They're everywhere here in Australia. In fact there's a dealer right near the airport that has 4 of them in stock. I wouldn't fret too much though. I was lined up against one at the lights on my Duke 200 & beat it handily. Admittedly though, the Grom along side trounced the both of us handily. But he did have the advantage of having the engine swapped with a CB250 or CB300. I couldn't get close enough to him to see which one though. And on GWM, if their cars are anything to go by, the bikes they make will rust at the sign of a running tap & break down at the sight of an ignition key. Durability & reliability are not their strong points.
@@ADingoTookMyDasco Unless you changed sprocket for high acceleration and you weight 50kgs and the CB400 rider is fat as f***, there's no way you'd win lol. I have a Svartpilen 200 geared for climbing mountains, I know how this engine accelerates.
