I did a quick ride after the install. First off, I immediately felt the geometry difference due to the extra 1/2 inch in the ZX10R shock. It brought my riding position higher and made me lean into turns quicker. In terms of suspension, the ZX10R rear shock makes riding smoother. I feel I need to get it professionally tuned because I guessed the settings based on the ZX10R manual for a 150 lb rider. The difference in weight between the SV and the ZX should also be taken into account.
Hi there great video I'm thinking of doing this bro my sv and am just wondering when you take that thing off the battery box does it expose the battery or any thing else at all
great video! Think I might go and try to swap out my shock today.. Question: When you mention lowering the swing arm to make it fit correctly, you mean to just move the swingarm until the dogbone links line up properly with the shock mount, correct?
Thank you for documenting this procedure. Going to be doing the rear shock swap on my 1st gen sv650 and was able to get a few good tips from your video.
Hi, great video of the zx10r shock swap. Since the length of the shock is a bit longer than stock, how did it affect the head angle, ride height and handling?
Nope or else I definitely would not remove it. I can't quite figure out why Suzuki decided to add this extra piece of plastic to the battery box. I have ridden without the piece for about 2 months now with no problems and this included a couple of long rides (~3+ hours) with partial rain.
Done all that with mine not happy with results so went with yss replacement sprung to my weight many a good track day at silverstone gp as a result 1999 carby welded tubes to axle stands to prevent foot pegs falling off so impossible to fall off , !
@@TheDeceptikron : I have a 2018 sv650,, I used a GSXR 750 rear shock.. perfect fit.... but it was a little tricky to get in. you need to loosen the battery box from the top. then lift the box a little to get the gsxr shock in.
Stock front sprocket, Vortex 44T rear, stock chain. I believe it is best practice to replace the entire drive at the same time but I only replaced my rear because my stock rear sprocket (which was still in good condition) got a ton of black paint on it which i couldnt remove and it bothered me =P
7 years later - still helping people replace their shocks :D thanks a ton. By far the clearest video on this process.

This is the best video I've seen for this swap, great technique to actually lifting your bike and have a stable platform, thank you for posting.

Was this on an ABS model of gen2 sv650?

SO did putting it up on the swingarm stand negate having it on the jacks?
Hi, great video of the zx10r shock swap. Since the length of the shock is a bit longer than stock, how did it affect the head angle, ride height and handling?
Hey, it raises the rear a little and makes turn in much easier/responsive

got an 09 sv650, and i picked up a 09 gsxr 600 rear shock cheap as chips, hoping it will fit?
Very helpful video. Best one I've seen so far. Thanks for posting buddy!

Thanks for posting this I used your technique of reversing the pegs and using my car jacks. Very stable. Cheers.
is that zx shock is harder spring than sv?
Could I get the length of this shock?
What year or generation is you SV650? and would this apply to an SV650S
Any pointy model (03 onwards) and irrelevant on whether it's an S or an N, they're the same
so a 2017 model too?

Spent, How did you lower the Swingarm to compensate the shock?
why did you NOT go with a GSXR 750 shock? 07 will fit the SV650.
To low
Hi there! Thanks for video! Did you use bottom bolt for zx10r shock or used sv's one?
You must use the zx10r bolts for the bottom, and sv for the top
+Munsor Mcclatchey What for? Sv stock bottom bolt fits perfectly with a nut.
Helpful and clear guide. Thanks.
Nice step by step explanation . V useful. Thanks
