Loved the way you investigated the lore and the meanings after you finished the game. Not everybody does that and was my favourite part. I can add my theory that after you kill Eddie, there are 2 pyramid heads, while before there was only one, because you only felt the guilt of killing one human being. Which explains the otherwise very weird appearance of two.
i appreciate that! i knew that this game had to be loved so much for a reason, and i can totally understand why now OOOOOOOO i love that theory SO MUCH! you can see the guilt on james’ face after k*lling eddie, so this actually makes perfect sense to me. mind blown LOL
How about SH1? SH1 is radically different. It does not relate to SH2 in any way. Characters have absolutely nothing in common. No trauma, no personal demons. Different in tone, different in feel. SH1 is just horror mystery. A great horror mystery
A short detail at 2:07:25 After James watched the tape, he won't look at the player anymore, because he basically looks at himself while saving but he's ashamed of himself so he looks away
This game really is an amazing mind trip. When I played it 22 years ago it changed my life, and how I saw what video games and storytelling could be. Nothing else like it had come before it. As someone who saw his wife crumble away from mental illness over 2 years, I can relate to what both James and May went through. Both people are victims of the disease, and no one can understand what affect that has on a caretaker / spouse unless they go through it. It can break one down in ways we never thought possible. The disease killed the "person" that Mary was 3 years ago when she first got the disease (in James eyes). (she was most likely killed very recently based on other indicators) You also are shown this when Maria was found dead the 2nd time in the hospital bed, when you see her with the start of the same disease that Mary had. There are so many visual cues throughout the game to see. You see the home James and Mary lived in (and the bedroom Mary was killed in) being shown over and over in the Apartment buildings (where you found her hanky where PH mimicked similar acts in the apartment), the Labyrinth, etc. You can also hear Mary's "gasp" from the videotape at different important parts of the game. The monsters are visual representations of Mary and her sickness (lying figures throwing up, all monsters having feminine / sexual tones). The locations changing to represent memories of both James and Mary's own otherworld hell (the hospital covered in dirty sheets, the rot, etc). There is a freshly dug (and open) grave in the graveyard on the first play in Silent Hill at the start. All the bodies in Silent Hill are James, alluding to the possibility that he is stuck in some sort of loop and he kept failing until you clear the game. The "memories" from the first game add a nice emphasis to this idea while also being nice easter eggs for players of the original. It also explains why the game and puzzles are somewhat jumbled and different than the original (while allowing the game to be fresh and new for all players). Angela's Abstract Daddy sequence was absolutely nightmarish in the remake compared to the original. If you watch the burning stairs scene with her (makes me bawl every time), you will see "Daddy" is now on the wall in a frame similar to the Abstract Daddy monster... only now he's been slit down the middle (including his "stuff" now being gone). You aren't meant to like / agree with James actions, but its ok to have empathy for the horrible situation he and Mary were both put in, as the disease made them each a "monster" in their own way... and its a tragic story all round. It's meant to make you think in ways you never did before... and its a special experience you'll never forget.
it is EXTREMELY tragic. thanks so much for sharing your perspective and i’m sorry you can relate in a way. i definitely sympathize with james regardless of everything and i can’t imagine being in a situation like their’s. i feel like i’ve learned so much yet still have so much to unpack. it’s kinda crazy how on the surface, if you choose not to delve into the meaning of everything, you can just think of this as a simple spooky story game at a glance. i didn’t realize how incredibly detailed and intentional everything was at first
@@sapharic Yah, that's a big reason why it's such a classic and very much beloved. It's not just a simple scary game. Its very mature and layered as you say. It's ok to not understand everything, and some things are open to interpretation. 23 years, we are still talking about it :) That's what makes it a great game, as you pickup so much more on additional plays with all the visual details, the audio details, the notes you read, the locations you see appear over and over again (like James / Mary's home where she was killed, etc). Not many games provide that kind of experience.

i’d love to play the OG! i’ve only heard good things about all 3 games, i’m happy i gave the remake a go
@@sapharic SH4 is a great game too

Every Slient Hill game is different. But Silent Hill 2 is the most proplur one!
2 and 3 are best 3 should get a remake asap
I would love to see you doing a let's play of the 1st one from 1999 but also the OG silent hill 2 from 2001 ;)
i would love to play the original games!
@@sapharic For Silent hill 2 you should try to get the fanmade "enhanced version" which is the definitive edition and the best way to play it :)
There's quite a bit to unpack with this game haha
Also, clearly James is a leg man lol
THERE IS SO MUCH TO UNPACK my mind is still spiraling
You should react to the ending in the original silent hill 2. The voice actor did a really good job reading the letter.
oooooo yes! multiple people have told me that they think the voice acting in the original game is significantly better
@@sapharic only for some parts of the letter though. most voice actors sound like some random they picked off the street lol, especially james
FINALLY YOU FINISHED IT! PLEASE REACT OTHER ENDING!!
oooo i'd be down!
Can't get worse than the prison she says 😳💀
LOL
You wouldn't get it
Silent Hill 2 proves why the Last of Us 2 should have been about a cast of different characters entirely.
i played the first last of us but never the 2nd since it got so many mixed reviews :/
i had the same ending! the one that mary wanted 🥲
what a game!!
yay! yeah after looking at all the other endings, i’m happy with this one! :)
