What an icon. I met him at Monster Mania in Cherry Hill, NJ about 15 years ago and he was incredibly kind and generous. He talked to me and listened to everything teen me had to say. I’ll remember that encounter forever.
I’ve always looked at Candyman as an art piece. The way it was shot, the poetry and Tony’s Todd’s voice just elevated it beyond your typical horror movie.
He's amazing.i just want to hug him . His talent is endless he brilliantly created this character . No one else can touch him . He's so underated. He deserves so much more praise. This movie deserves so much more appreciation. It's not just a horror movie. It's so much deeper.! I love hearing how close him and Virgina Madson were and all they did to strengthen their bond for their characters.. I hope they really are close in real life too. It's just so sad we were robbed of 2 mins of their scene of them in the lair.
I couldn't imagine anyone playing the role of Candyman. His deep voice & his facial expression was such a treat to see him play a villain to such great heights & with especially racism was widely known & yet he was able to break them barriers of him being a victim in a sense for redemption of what he lost years ago
Tony Todd has been one of my favourite actors of all time ever since I saw Night of the Living Dead (1990) about 25 years ago on cable TV late one night. So I have seen just about everything he has starred in, including the original Candyman (1992) that has definitely stood the test of time as a unique horror classic, which I reckon it wouldn't have been without Tony Todd in the title role. Great insightful interview, thanks for posting it.
Im 48 and I will always love candyman..it's not just a movie..it's something that will be part of my soul forever..that's when you know it's a masterpiece.
Candyman: "Be my victim, I am the writing on the wall, the whisper in the classroom, Without these things I am nothing, so now I must shed innocent blood ".

@@abhishekmukherjee1680 yeah I agree... but but people need to stop having these high expectations of Tony being a key part of this film, with a 20 mil budget there is only so much they can do to please fans and the studio trying to make a profit..

I saw CandyMan in the theater and Tony Todd's performance amazed me, I knew instantly after leaving he was going to be a household name. You are the 🐐 Tony Todd!
I, too, was fortunate enough to first view this during its theatrical run and Tony Todd's voice completely swallowed the room. Lol to this day, I still don't have the guts to say, "Candyman" 5 times in the mirror.

I ran into tony down on frenchman in nola one night years ago. All I could hear in my head was "be my victim" in his candy man voice. I didn't sleep for a week after that.
There’s just something I like about Tony Todd whenever he acts in certain roles, he just has this soothing deep voice, whether darkness or warmth in it he’s able to project when playing a character. And whenever I hear Tony as Candyman his voice just sound dark but smooth and sweet as if it was honey. Tony Todd was a great choice of Candyman. Honestly can’t wait to see what this new Candyman will bring, I’m hoping at least a cameo.
I love horror movies, but not many of them actually manage to spook me. It was only within the last few years that I finally watched the first Candyman movie, and it left me both spooked *and* swooning, the latter due to Tony Todd's incredible performance. The Candyman, as performed by Todd, is one of a rare category of horror movie monsters that I call "highly dateable," ranking with Bela Lugosi's portrayal of Count Dracula and (in my opinion, y.m.m.v.) above even Luke Goss's portrayal of Frankenstein's Creature (whom I also adore). 🥰
