- Taken straight from the SAS Survival Handbook, the Temple Fire is a prime example of a method to make fire on any terrain... even on WATER!!!

This makes for a good bushcraft project!
We start by collecting wood for support poles (the length you need will depend on your specific scenario). From there we collect cross pieces to create an elevated platform. In this video I used square lashings to hold the platform up.
Once the platform is erected, we will place wood across the top, then we will place grass or anything to plug the holes as we need to put dirt on top.
Once that is done, we must place 2-3 inches of dirt on top of the platform to prevent our temple from birding down.
It's as easy as that!! once you have the dirt evenly spread out you can start your fire! If you plan on doing some cooking you can add Y branches to create a rotisserie or just for a simple pot holder.
One of the main benefits of this fire (other than being able to make a fire on any terrain) is that if you are doing this in winter, then it will prevent the snow from melting around your camp, thus everything will stay dry instead of creating a big puddle of water.
