The Attitude Indicator, or Artificial Horizon, is how you know which way your airplane is oriented in roll and pitch. It's the first gyroscopic instrument in my instrument mastery series. The other two instruments will follow next. The mechanical attitude indicator is driven by a jet of air from the engine's vacuum pump. It spins around a vertical axis and as the aircraft rotates around it, it displays your pitch and roll angles relative to the horizon. This video explains how the attitude indicator works, how to interpret it, and how to use it masterfully.
