    KILLER white dawn rep. Proud to be a part of it, and thankful for the great recording!

      Wow. You guys were just incredible. Really wish every musician had the chance to hear something like this in person. Between Pants and "Pup 'N Suds", the 2013 hornline really put Bluecoats on my radar. This 2014 warmup was my first impression of this year's hornline, and served as instant confirmation that this hornline is not to be missed. Speaking of which, I do have an epic 2014 Pants vid in the works... Thanks for performing, and for your comment!

      ToweringTimeTable i LOVE this group. because of the bluecoats , i am going to try out for 2 open class corps for 2016. my goal is to be a bluecoat eventually . If you are a trumpet player, can you tell me how you warm up?

    • @BenGunnarson
      @BenGunnarson 9 років тому +2

      There are hundreds of methods! Your drum corps will have a specific set of exercises for you to play during a warm up.

      casey huddleston Many methods indeed. For me, the main rule is to do what is comfortable. As with the gym, I try to work toward a good burn in the muscles without hurting myself.
      I usually do loads of long/low/soft tones. I make sure I'm warming up the entire instrument (playing in keys that make extensive use of all 3 valves). I also take frequent breaks to break up the monotony (and maybe go play some piano or bass guitar for 15 minutes).
      I write/improvise quite a bit of my warmups, but my faster runs are based on what I learned from H. L. Clarke's *Technical Studies for Cornet*. Gotta thank that book for anything technical I can play.

      After hearing their 2013 hornline (link in description), I knew I had to catch them again this year. It’s hard to describe how this sounded in person, other than amazing and unreal…like sorcery.

    I love how they play the opener with low dynamics and then play it beautifully loud afterwards

    Hi! Thank you so much for recording this! By any chance, could you tell me what you used to record the hornline? I am trying to record my own mello playing and im having a hard time finding a recording device where the mic doesn't get overblown. Thanks again!

    • @HornlineFanatic
      @HornlineFanatic  10 років тому

      Barisax3113 Thanks for watching! I believe it is a common misconception that the microphone itself is the limiting factor in recording loud sounds. In my experience, clipping/ distortion/ saturation (whatever you want to call it) is usually the result of the audio input level being set way too high. What devices/apps have you tried recording with, and do they permit you adjust the audio input level?

    • @Barisax3113
      @Barisax3113 10 років тому

      HornlineFanatic I use a spare camcorder that I have around the house. I also don't have an I phone. I use an android hahaha. There are specific apps for high quality recording?

    • @HornlineFanatic
      @HornlineFanatic  10 років тому +2

      Barisax3113 Try RecForge Lite. It's the free version of the app with recording time limits, but the limits supposedly don't apply if you record in WAV format, which is the highest quality anyway. Just make sure to disable AGC (Automatic Gain Control). Manually set the gain as low as possible. Then start playing your horn loudly, less than a foot from it...and slowly dial up the gain until you find the sweet spot where it's loud, but not clipping (often shown by red peaks on a meter). Then dial the gain back a tad to give yourself some leeway--and you should be good to record!

    • @Newlolz989

      Go to a dci show in your area and walk around the stadium before the show starts. There will be hornlines warming up and the top hornlines will be warming up later in the night. So you either have 2 choices in a dci show, watch the lot or the shows.
