+None yeah have them run up slides with those heavy uniforms, plus imo the unfiforms fit the theme for me very well. they're almost definately returning to them this year tho.
I've admired the 'coats contra sound for over a decade, and this tops em all. Love the contra chords, wonderful!!! Kudos to videographer for the contra love. :)
TBoneD2000 Nah, they're definitely not contrabass tubas. Contrabass tubas are lower pitched and are much bigger instruments. We still call them contras because that's what was used before the conversion to Bb horns.
A certain "make anyone go deaf": Them playing the "THX" theme. You know, the super loud thing that always came on before movies from the 1990's and early 2000's and woke everyone up by accident when you watched movies at night? Yeah, that.
SUCH POWER!! OMG!! Bloo is catching up with BD with the quickness!! Watch out, Blue Devils, they are coming for ya!! I love BD, but Bluecoats, you are my strongest 2nd favorite!!
+Mom2twoboys22 The blue devils have absolutely horrible balance, they are loud, sure, but that's about it. Bluecoats have surpassed them in my opinion years back, at least brass wise. This year, Bluecoats were only behind Devils by .1 in brass
Jordan Shaw Fair enough, here goes: Not sure how I reevaluate the fact that they really did score .1 lower than BD on brass. I mean take it up with the DCI judges on that one if you don't believe me. In my personal opinion, the BD hornline puts way too much of an emphasis on high brass. Almost every sustain chord has a high G punch in it *cough felliniesque cough*. Bluecoats understand the beauty that is interchangeable voicing, especially with bari/ euphs. Look at the last chord they hold in Hymn of Acxiom. Not a single trumpet is on the top part of the chord, mellos and low brass are alone and it sounds absolutely wonderful. There's a reason why one of the big Bluecoats things is "signature sound". Literally no one sounds like them. They work musically as a cohesive ensemble rather than a brass line led, dictated, and pushed by trumpet screaming. I play trumpet, and I understand the nuisances of 'taking it up an octave', I really do. It's just that there's a time and a place for it, and the Bluecoats achieve a much more pleasing balance. I fully agree that BD deserves to be a top 3 corps, no doubt in my mind. It's just that they have aspects that are overlooked by the uneducated crowd of fans. They are loud, energetic, and score high. To many, that means they are the best. There's a reason why us as humans have the right to an opinion. I've voiced mine with a relatively strong claim to stand on, whether or not you agree is your discretion. Thanks
+MainCut Media what you say is totally true and I have to agree with you. But I have to tell you something that was explained to me by a humble B.D. fan. The Blue Devils have a very strong low brass section, and they can be loud if need be. But the Blue Devils like playing jazzy shows, and therefore go for a jazz kind of blend in their sound. Which means a lot more high brass contribution than low brass contribution. Meanwhile corps like the Bluecoats and Carolina Crown, go for the symphonic blend. Which is a more even contribution of sound from all sections of the hornline. Which is why their synth-like beauty of a sound is more pleasant to the ear.
01:09 With earphones on, you can hear the lead trumps climb up a step, or octave. High C, then the G above that... He's like, "Im octave this..." then when he gets there, he's like, "I can go higher, let's try that G...". If it would've been any longer, Im sure he's squeaked a C. I know I would. lol
Robert Smith was our caption head brass in Suncoast. He never conducted like I see these horn guys. In fact, he taught the hornline to watch him conduct with the slightest nod. There is no need to flail the arms like you’re drowning. Nice uniforms.
Omega_Ronan you can hear it right at the end of the chord. The "double G" is a little late on the cut off. Thats the only way could hear it because it blended so well!
Call me a tradionalist (yes I am) but I loved the old unees.... much better than the chinos and white t-shirts that they wore and yes won with this year in one of my least favorite shows. Still love them though. Great corp....
I don't understand how contra players get past the basically 0 visibility that they have to which ever side of them the tuba is on. I know contras project better and have a more directional sound but at least you can see to either side of you a little bit with a Sousaphone. Even so, I prefer contras. They just look and sound cooler
1:14 - the single weakest whistle ever uttered following the most incredible chords
the mellos made up for it
Rip old uniforms
+None yeah have them run up slides with those heavy uniforms, plus imo the unfiforms fit the theme for me very well. they're almost definately returning to them this year tho.
We wouldn't have been able to do what we did without them.
Eston Hensley Those were the reason I wanted to join Bluecoats back in the day.
"lol" -Bluecoats
Pfft why should we wear blue - bluecoats 2018
I WILL be a part of this contra line. Just wait
Dedication and attitude like that, and you will.
You can do it.
Same!
Same
*Joins Crown*
the bluecoats play with such laser focus and consistency its astounding
ryantothemaxey true and their pitch quality is outstanding. This is a good
This is a good way to start your day to.
Wake up
Listen to this
Do watever
1:14 I think I just heard a failed attempt at whistling haha
Anybody else notice how the trumpet hits line up with the tubas around 3:25. Sounds sick.
TILT was written so well even the warmups are world class composition
I've admired the 'coats contra sound for over a decade, and this tops em all. Love the contra chords, wonderful!!! Kudos to videographer for the contra love. :)
*tuba
@@keemezthey’re called contras, they can be called tubas too but contra is the more correct term
nope. contras are bugles. these are tubas. T U B A s
wrongola.
That clean bass split at 3:06 in the background lol
Those tubas...
*Contras
Dominick Flores No, they're tubas. They look like contrabass bugles, but they're marching tubas.
ApolloCCR They're contrabass tubas. They can be called contras.
TBoneD2000 Nah, they're definitely not contrabass tubas. Contrabass tubas are lower pitched and are much bigger instruments. We still call them contras because that's what was used before the conversion to Bb horns.
They're technically called Contrabass Bugles if you look them up.
One day I will be in a Bluecoats uniform.....BLOO!!!!!
Unfortunately not this uniform though
or this year's one
This year they don't even have one
Ok rip I forgot I even commented this lol 😅😂
@@ashleewoods9205 Did you make it tho?
A certain "make anyone go deaf": Them playing the "THX" theme.

Yeah, that.
1:05 That lydian crunch
I'm a Mellophone player, but those contras doe.😍
If only I was strong enough. 😦
SUCH POWER!! OMG!! Bloo is catching up with BD with the quickness!! Watch out, Blue Devils, they are coming for ya!! I love BD, but Bluecoats, you are my strongest 2nd favorite!!
This season is getting more intense with each performance

you were right. they really *bloo* the competition away in 2016
Tilt! was AWSOME last year...can't wait to see what Bloo is up to this year!! :D
2:29 THAT *ECHO*
Nearly 10 years later and that high F in the tuba feature is still impressive.
I miss these uniforms. These were some of the best uniforms this activity has ever seen.
For season 25' I hope they wear these uniforms! So awesome!
2:29 holy shit that echo
what is a world without pants?
It's the name of the chord progression at 0:39.
a pretty good one if you ask me
+DrumCorpsTube thank you!
+who8mahbacon omg😂😂😂😂 but kinda true tbh
what happens at band camp, stays at band camp. XD
Awesome horn line! What Discipline!
2:50 amazing.
The overtone on the very last chord of the video makes me so happy
No words. Just a giant grin on my face. :D
Your videos are phenominal. Thank you for this.
I truly miss the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Bluecoats. This current broadway show act of 2016, '17 and this year are not the Bluecoats I used to know.
Look at them today compared to 4 years ago lmao, slippery slope through and through
the guy at 3:30 is no doubt the contra's spirit animal
What I like about Blue Coats: Tuba Section gets no break! You will have a feature and you will have to climb up and down on props, and like it!
01:09 With earphones on, you can hear the lead trumps climb up a step, or octave. High C, then the G above that...

Way to go BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 93 Euphonium here
Those god damn horns at 2:08!!! OMG!
I Will Be A Part Of This Horn Line! Just Wait And See! It May Not Be Until Four Years From Now... But I Will Get A Trumpet Spot.!😱👍
so... did that happen?
That double G at 1:11
tubas oh my god. love love love.
Idk how but their hornline this year and 2015 sounded like it came straight from a synthesizer
well in 2015 some of them quite literally did come out of a synth
The BEST sound ever
the mellos at 1:03.
goosebumps every. fucking. time.
4:38 good lord the tuba high notes😳😍
0:59 THE END
man.. that tumba circle was CRUNCHY

Hi Eric
ThatWasFriendly
Hi Jonathan
Thank you Forrest Gump for directing such an amazing hot line!
+jaman98 You're right, I see how that would help. That and a whole lot of muscle memory
the horns down position must me such a pain to do, always holding it at a slant
I love blucouta
What double G is everyone talking about ?
At about 1:11, there's a trumpet playing really high at the end of that peice. That's it....
WeaselCraft Totally can't hear it. Unless you"re talking about the person who whistled at 1:15
Omega_Ronan you can hear it right at the end of the chord. The "double G" is a little late on the cut off. Thats the only way could hear it because it blended so well!
Derek Smith I think the late cutoff is intentional. I believe it's called "kissing" the note or something along those lines.
Miles Daviss in Teal Sound i was called the asshole for that lol
Call me a tradionalist (yes I am) but I loved the old unees.... much better than the chinos and white t-shirts that they wore and yes won with this year in one of my least favorite shows. Still love them though. Great corp....
whats the name of the Ballad at 1:19?
I think its Hymn of Acxiom
Does anybody know how many tuba age outs there were this season?
That's some incredible contra playing. And 1:09!!
Im very late.. but one day i will make the French horn line.
Those horn-sounding instruments are mellophones :)
Phil Denzmore, Jr. Ik... I play it. :)
@@deluxedesires3719 well you said it as if you did not know the difference and I was not sure
iiSonica love the enthusiasm just please never call it a french horn line again
Nice
YESS
Them tubas tho
Nothing touches 2:05
Tuba=bae
Tubae

+Brick tator I'm pretty sure the drill writers design around that (more straight line paths and what not)
capability and quality will always trump Sousaphones by a long shot
If you watch closely when they start to get farther from the 50 yard line they actually lean in a bit, which I’m sure makes it easier.
There's some intonation issues in the f hornline
This tuba line was out for blood.
How do I get that tone
Tom hanks?
How did you record the audio?
BLOOOOOOO
I'd do DCI if I wasn't broke and fat
Bring the old uniforms back, those crap ones they have been wearing for 4 years are bad, they look like clowns
What mic did you use?
