How to Clean a Gas Fireplace Glass

- Knowing how to clean a gas fireplace glass front panel is key to keeping a clean and beautiful home! The key is knowing how to remove the glass, and knowing the specific cleaner to use!
The glass panel is purposely built to be removable. Sometimes it requires removing some screws, but usually it's a matter of unclipping some spring-loaded clips and the glass panel comes right off.
Then, with the panel laid flat on a towel or work surface, you go to work with "conditioning glass cleaner." I use Meeco's.

So I just cleaned it and realized mine is actually a black soot problem so I just used a damp cloth, but if I had the white haze, I’d need the cleaner. (Now I need to figure out why it’s producing soot)
@@aliciamarana I’m thinking you need a burner tune-up by a professional heating tech. A gas fireplace should not be producing any soot.

I find that Speedy White Fireplace cleaner is way faster and easier than the paste you recommend here. I've used this stuff on stone, fireplace glass and even carpet stains. The stuff is amazing. I've also use the product you suggest. It works well, but is slower and more work. I do not, however, know if the Speedy WHite product does any "conditioning" to the glass, as you mention that your product does.
I ordered some of this glass conditioner but it says Do Not Use On Tempered Glass. Aren’t most fireplace glasses tempered. Is this safe to use?

I bought the glass cleaner recommended in this video. However, it says "Not for use on tempered glass fireplace doors" I have a Lennox gas fireplace. I am not sure if it is tempered or not. How can you tel?
Ron, it’s a fair question and it’s over my head. In my experience tempered glass has an etched insignia in one of the corners. That would be the first thing I would check for, but calling any local fireplace supplier would probably be the best approach. I don’t know why the cleaner would be good or bad for tempered versus non-tempered. I definitely did not check the type of glass before I made the video so I may or may not have followed the actual directions.

Windwex type cleaners are ammonia based. DO NOT use windex. The same cleaner you used on the inside of the glass will be fine. Don't clean windows that are hot.
It’s ok to leave the gas on?
Yes. You don’t necessarily have to turn off the pilot light either. Obviously you want to practice safety and all, but these types of fireplaces didn’t even start including glass in the design til the last couple decades.
Have heard not to use paper towel

Newspaper is lint free and works well instead of paper towels.
Since so many insert fireplaces are manufactured differently it would be great if you mentioned the brand of fireplace your instructing on!
Hi Glen. As a former home inspector, the vast majority of gas fireplace glass units could be identified for their removal process with a minute of close looking. Interestingly, however, many of the units’ manufacture wasn’t as easily find-able.
DO NOT USE WINDEX ON FIREPLACE GLASS . NOTHING WITH AMONIA IN IT
