Certified propane service tech here and I can say almost everything you did here I can agree with EXCEPT air compressor because it can lock up applience regualter . I suggest canned air . Great video
I have glow ashes that are on the bottom of my fireplace. My fireplace was a burning fireplace and is real dirty. Could I get the rocks instead?
Yeah you should be able to switch over with no issues
This is Nov 18, called Fireplace store and said next available appointment is Jan. 20 and the cost is $189.00. Thanks for the video, I will be cleaning and checking everything myself!
Let me know if it works out for you! The compressed air will do the trick
Awesome video! Thank you for taking the time to do this. We were quoted nearly $300 to clean 2 fireplaces and now with this video we are confident enough to clean them ourselves. You have saved our family time and money and we truly appreciate it!
I appreciate that James. Happy holidays to you and the family
UA-cam has saved me so much money on repairs over the years.
You guys are making me blush 😁 Merry Christmas
Moved into a house this year and I do not believe in the 9 years it has been built that a single person EVER cleaned the fireplace. The lava rocks were so gross I opted to buy new ones but thank you so much for this much needed tutorial.
Your on a roll bud. My wife asked me the other day to see if I could tidy up the fireplace. 🔥🔥
Thanks man! 🤘
Great video!!! Thank you for the easy to follow instructions!! We like the look of the rocks and the cleaning tip. Keep up the fabulous work-we'll be watching!!! You've made a husband and wife team feel productive today!!!
Wow! This is an amazing video. I cleaned my gas fireplace today following your steps and not only is it sparkling clean, but you saved me $300! Thanks for the confidence you gave me to do this myself. My husband is duly impressed 😄
I appreciate that! Glad it helped you all out
Great detail kept my manual for over 20 years now to show log placement
This is the way all information should be. Simple and able to be understood by all. Well done.
Thanks so much!
Thank you. Great video and good advice about taking pics of the logs before you take them out.
Very satisfied with Gas Fireplace. Nice design works well easy to install. Great value for the price.
I particularly like your helper.Thank you , great vid.
Haha Luna enjoys helping and makes appearances regularly on the channel. Thanks so much!
solid video. right to the point. superb communication. you have skills. i'm thankful for video
Thank you
Thx for helping me son, I am at the part of warming them up, will use my gas oven to do so, my pilot lite keeps my oven warm, will put a few at a time in there for 10 minutes before I start cleaning them,
@@debbiescott6498 you are welcome!
What an awesome video. Unfortunately it's way too cold to do that now, but next summer... 😊
Very happy with this video! Working on mine in my new house today and it was grody!
Thanks so much! Glad it helped!
@@BtwilliasGarage I accidentally vacuumed up the embers because I thought they were spider eggs.......
Whoops! It happens to the best of us. There are not too expensive to replace. Here's an example amzn.to/36xhFc5
This is super well-done. Thank you!
I really appreciate that!
Thanks for the video!! Side note: It’s so funny how young people call all storage containers Tupperware, Lol!!!
Thanks! Haha I never thought about the Tupperware being the "Chapstick" of food storage lol.
You did a great job. I learned a lotttttt in this video. Thank you man.
Hubby can clean it now
Thank you! Enjoy the clean fireplace when you all get done!
How to troubleshoot the flame should it be all blue how much yellow is ok and should that yellow be limited to the outer zone of the flame?
Is there anything that needs to be looked at on the exhaust vent outside behind the fireplace?..tks for the great video.
Great video thanks for being so thorough!
😊 Thank you 😊
Thank you. It worked 😊
Heck yeah 😎
Great stuff. This’ll save me 200 a yr
Great video!!!
I would clean the rocks in a collander!!
I have a problem with my fireplace turning off after burning for about 3 minutes. Pilot and flame turned off. Where I think I did something wrong is I washed my fake logs and didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to do that. Could wet logs cause it to turn off like that?
My fireplace looks exactly like yours however it appears as tho you have a glass enclosure. I only have the mesh curtains. Is the glass necessary?
No it's not needed. Those are just glass doors that close
great video
but how did you clean the chain curtain?
I do not have a specific process for that since mine was still attached. Just a basic vacuum, spray and wipe as good as possible. You could do it better, but that will get you by with no smells or visible dirtiness
Do you have to put the rocks on the bottom, or can you leave it bare?
I would suggest putting them as they are intended to hold and radiate heat. It makes your fireplace more efficient
Is it necessary to have the mesh or glass if I have a decorative fireplace screen? I dislike look of both the glass and the mesh. Thank you.
What do you recommend on using on the black metal to restore the color? Any particular polish?
Sorry I don't have a good answer for this one. I know the answer for automotive is mother's back to black, but not sure if that's recommended for fireplace stuff. You could always paint it if you can get it out or tape things off. I would use Rust-Oleum black
Thank you so much for this video! My fireplace is a bit different than yours; however, I'm confident I will be able to clean it...it's way overdue. I wanted to ask you, why not soap and hose off the logs...would that ruin them? Thanks again :)
I would keep soap and water off the logs just in case. I'm not sure what would happen, but good dry paint brush dusting does just fine
@@BtwilliasGarage Thank you! :)
So we just bought a house and the fireplace was filthy as was the house . We shop vac The entire fireplace including the pellets which I thought were animal droppings . Can I just go by new rocks and pellets . Everything is in the shopvac if I need to go through and pull things out .
Yeah you can just buy new ones. I'm not sure if you will need one or two bags, but here you go: amzn.to/3ecT6b0
Do I have to have the Little Rock’s underneath?
Those are not required
I don't have the rocks under mine; however, I think I would prefer them as all around gets really dirty and dusty and I think the rocks would be easier to remove and clean, every so often.
Will cleaning it help it stop going out and turning back on by itself?
There is a good chance it will. Blow out that little hole to start and see if it fixes it
A swiffer would work great to dust this as well
Good ideas
What does it mean if you see black smoke? Needs cleaning?
Nah it means no pope has been elected
is this a vented or vent-free fireplace?
Edit: I think this is probably vent-free
Can I run it without rocks logs?
They are not needed for the fireplace to function. They are for looks and efficiency of the heat
@@BtwilliasGarage Sounds good!
Hi- is there a way to remove the sliding mesh that hangs in front to clean it? Ours is covered in black dust that will make a huge mess if I try to clean inside!
Sorry I missed this. Did you get it figured out? I'm not sure how easy they are to remove, but I'm sure you can. If it were me I would be tempted to shop vac it if you have one. Then spray it down with a vinegar and water solution. Say 25% vinegar/75% H2O. Have paper towels or an old t shirt underneath. Then proceed to wipe it down well. Won't be too bad. Good luck
Btwillia's Garage I will try this and if I learn anything I’ll share- thanks so much!!!
@@larcher1221 A lot of them are two rods that are screwed in to the metal. Take the two screws out and you can pull the rod free and take them out.
May be a dumb question but can I wash my logs I. A bucket or with that ruin the ?
I'm sure you can, but I'm not a real expert. I would use a wet cloth on them after you use a paint brush and compressed air to get all the dry nasty off
I washed my logs and read later on that you should never ever wash the logs but it’s too late. Now I noticed that my fireplace turns off after about 3 minutes pilot and flame.
Experts say don't do it. Stick with the brushing
@@BtwilliasGarage. Weeks later after the logs dried, I noticed they got white spots like mold but at least now the flame stays on now. Sometimes you learn the hard way.
@@fonzario that makes sense. I have never washed mine and didnt consider that being an issue, but glad folks are learning from you and others in the comments
What if I forget to take a picture of the logs?
You will get it figured out, just makes it tough if you don't remember. They have flat sides that help
Are lava rocks better than sand? {that's what we have}
I would say that most people think so for holding heat and looks

I don't have rocks in mine, I have sand and chunks of dust and lint balls.
You can buy the rocks off Amazon if you want to upgrade
@@BtwilliasGarage Can you use glass like in the fancy gas fireplaces?
I assume so, I don't see how it could hurt anything
My fireplace starts with pilot it turns on with the switch but after 30 seconds it turns off and then I can't turn it on from switch. What could cause this?
Thanks
I show you exactly what to do in this video to fix that
@@BtwilliasGarage which video
Whoops, here you go
ua-cam.com/video/ukJRgJLUkEw/v-deo.html
@@BtwilliasGarage thanks. Am I able to use sand paper on thermopile and thermocouple?
I would recommend using compressed air, a bike pump or canned air. It works best! (On both)
