As the homeowner, words can't truly capture the depth of gratitude I'm feeling in response to the incredible outpouring of support I've received recently. For the past 4 years, I believed I was facing these challenges in isolation. It's almost miraculous how Site Inspections entered my life at precisely the right moment - they have been my true saviors. Their unparalleled expertise and profound understanding of the field are truly awe-inspiring.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who have reached out, and especially to the team at Site Inspections for being an unwavering pillar of support. I only wish I could personally express my appreciation to each and every person who has shown kindness during this journey.
Wishing you all the very best,
    Damian

@@pittchaser from other videos it may have to go to court, but even a ruling will see the contractor dissolve their business only to reform as another business entity. Things have to change, this contractor should lose all his assets and be in jail. He has clearly lied and bullied the homeowner, the state of the house is astounding. To the homeowner I can only wish you the best and hopefully work out why the inspection was passed, that feels dodgy to me.

Young trades every decade have to do even more hundred of hours free of charge to obtain a certificate of skill.

Now it's in other industries like nursing, design so on.... That said, there is a way to get pay, but usually it won't be allowed to count toward any certifications. I think if your getting help from an employee and they are doing their best and learning, payment is the fate trade.

Simpler solution......STOP allowing the builders to engage their own building surveyors and have the lender and/or home owner appoint one instead. It should be law or at least contingent on a building permit and or home loan approval. Unfortunately the current model means the home owner either pays once and suffers the shodiness of the builder's surveyor (read mate) or they have to pay twice to engage their own independent inspector as well. Builders do factor in the cost of their surveyor when they sell a house build contract. We had to pay for an independent inspection company for our build and surprise surprise !....each and every stage of the inspection that the builder's surveyor had signed off on, our inpsector found many defects. After days each time back and forth with the builder throwing up arguments, the builder each time had to pause the build, reassess and then agree with us and rectify. This added 6 months to the build equating to 6 months of extra rent payments @ $600 per week of which the builder just shrugged and went "oh sorry about that", no refunds and no offer of a discount This essentially equated to us living without items we'd planned to do after the build due to a lack of funds which were re-directed to extra rental payments due to their stuff ups having to be reworked after initially being passed by their own inspector. Onlyone time did their surveyors rescind their approval after we challenged their 'expert knowledge' when confronting them with our inspector's findings. Can't argue standards I'm afraid!
At the end of the day the government has allowed this to happen by A. allowing builder appointed inpsections, B. not being heavy handed enough when builders breach the rules and C. creating this mess in the first place by pushing a building boom that builders can't keep pace with in the first place.

When I built my house, as an unlicensed owner builder my work was inpected at every stage by a dpt.of works inspector. Every failed inspection (not many) had to be rebooked and paid for. The spec builder doing the house on each side of me simultaneously was subjected to only half as many inspects. His footings were pored with mud covering the steel. My build took 2 yrs mostly on my own after work and w-ends. 34 yrs since my final I've had to do no remedial work. Not so the houses either side of me. I have friends in the industry who say any house built this century should be considered sus. Wouldn't want to be a buyer these days. Quality relies on proper inspections.

We were threatened once because we wouldn't release the payment for the roof ,but we stooour ground telling them when you get it put on then you get paid and not before, sitting in the yard doesn't count, finish the work you get paid. The "it's good enough" attitude. Sadly today the workmanship is not what it used to be and a big reason for that is the inability for a tradesman to make a decent living and a GC having to bid the absolute lowest to get jobs so they take shortcuts. Thank goodness you're doing this! As someone who's barely survived my (fully signed off) house build (Building Warranty Insurance wouldn't pay out) and corrupt VCAT only awarded $80000 for remediating the necessary civil/structural engineering beneath my home on a steep site with a minimum $250000 repair bill for a $150000 build house.. (Deserved a complete rebuild. In 2006). Reported to the then Planning Minister, Matthew Guy, with several other victims of bad and passed building and inadequate compensation, requesting help (especially for Pensioners). Our stories were buried. Thought Labor would help, but no, have just made accessing compensation harder. Supported the starting of a group, Victorian Building Action Group, to tell all the horror stories, back then, 300000 victims of bad building through VCAT in Victoria alone annually. The financial, personal, relational and health losses to the purchasers is horrendous. A loss to the Victorian economy of billions!

I'm not an engineer, I was a metal tradesman and have even worked on a few building sites. Without even touching the minutiae is that the tradies who did this job have no understanding of the mechanics involved in this construction. If you are putting patch after patch after patch on a structure, then it isn't right and needs to be taken down and started again. Shocking build.

You get 70 Uber drivers working under 1 builder with a ticket building 20 houses and this is what you end up with. Back 40 years ago it was 1 builder with 2 apprentices working on 2 houses. Reason for 2 houses was while other trades were working on 1 house the builders could jump next door to the other house and keep working. But they were always close by for the other trades to talk to if needed. No mobile phones and coffee shops in those days. The builders even laid the driveways but not these days. Passed off to sub-contractors and you wonder why houses cost so much.

And it’s insane how overpriced construction is, frames were made on-site in those days - surely labour costs nowadays should be minimal in comparison (adjusted for inflation, of course).

As have been in the aus steel frame industry for over 15 years, i learnt many new players trying to promise anything but inexpeienced to make it happen.
we deliver what we promised, and we have all coils tested to as1397 coils and you have to know what it is about and not to rely on labs or mills.
As for the steel frame, the issues all can be found at the shopdrawings stage, use the experienced ones will cost you more in the begining but peace of mind during the journey. Knowing Peter for many years he definitely know what he is doing.

As a Carpenter that did the first nail together steel frame for BHP. That frame is not made by them. The frame company should not be in business. The carpenters that put the frame up should not have a licence. The council inspector should be sacked. The builder should be made to rebuild this home.with the owners personal workers. B types should be nail screwed to top and bottom plates with stud straps at the first stud after top and bottom. It's sad that the owners of project home's and bad builder's can do this. And get away with it...
