Update on the certifier that was involved with this job: www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/trades-and-businesses/business-essentials/building-certifiers/certifier-disciplinary-register
Brother is doing more at exposing the building industry in 10 mins than the whole government and a building ombudsman has done in 20 years . Love it ❤❤❤❤❤
Exposing who? Exposing what? He is only Exposing criminal workmanship, but the crimnal companies go unnamed, leaving home buyers exposed because they don't know who they are dealing with. He Exposing Shit! Name and Shame or just go away. Your just as bad as these criminals. If I knew there was a murderer or a pedophile in my neighbourhood and I didn't expose them, then I am as bad as them, and that what ypu are. You are only in it for the money and Clickbait!
What's even more scary is the owners might not even catch these mistakes and think it's normal then 15 20yrs later when these issues finally rear their ugly heads will the owners find out how shit of a job the builders did which means they lose their entire investment and spend 10s or even 100s of thousands of dollars trying to fix the issues that shouldn't have been prevalent since day dot
Random video pops up and look whos in the comment section. Now I will await "how to build a house in blender to make it comply with Australian Standards" :D
Being ripped off by a bad builder is terrible. People's life savings can literally be wiped out and there is very little anybody can do apart from expensive lengthy litigation that might not work. It's basically criminal theft. Thanks for your videos. You are doing important work.
I have worked in the Construction industry for over 50 years and still encounter rubbish builds as you are reviewing. My compliments to you, you are thorough, professional and clearly know the applicable Standards. If only more “builders” had the commitment to do the job properly…..
I want a new organization beyond corruption to register the good builders and give us poor folk Who could never know this stuff Who to go to to find. Bullder. As stated I hope the shit builders go bust but my fear is they won't the good ones who do the right thing will because the sitty ones undercut them.
I used to do work for builders in the 90s and most of the good ones got out then because they couldn't compete with cheap large volume builders, it's really funny when you service their vehicles because all really bad ones carried weapons in their cars.
Just because you have worked in the Construction industry for over 50 years, of course you will "still" encounter rubbish builds such as these, because your 50 years doesn't contribute to these phony, scammers and impostors builders!
@@MrCav74 dude, i had dik head builder damage my car in the carpark of our office because they thought i was the guy in charge with the most expensive in the carpark and in fact the construction had nothing to do with me at all
Thanks for this shocking news. The Building surveyor needs to be taken to task for passing this absolute mess. I truly feel the buyers of this disaster. No excuses for anyone involved in this, from builders to council.
perhaps the building surveyor should have too pay half along with the builder to fix any faults found, surveyors are working for the builder , his employer, they need to be independent, its a system like Dracula looking after the blood bank
@@mixalis6168 we dont have council inspectors in victoria any more, its self regulated , contact building surveyor is all council say do, its all bullshite
I was absolutely horrified watching this. I can’t believe the private certifier has passed this. I’m completely shocked that the builders would even do this workmanship. They should be prosecuted. That work they did on that home is embarrassing.
Not just minor things too. Like everything everywhere. Concrete was laughable, tile work was horrid, walls were SIMPLY NOT PLUMB! Who builds like that? A Blind man?
This makes me appreciate my 4000sq ft home built in 2007, with multiple inspections and almost near perfect ratings from each! I was complaining about my home being 16 years old but now I’m glad I didn’t get a new build
I did windows for over 10 years. I would lost my job if I left one window like that. It’s so sad to see that people need to deal with this. It’s not hard to do the job right.
Good that these folks have someone like yourself to advocate for them in the face of this dumpster fire. I'm not a builder by trade (non-construction-related engineering), but I've spent the last couple of years re-doing a heap of shoddy renovation work on my place and even I could find, read and observe the relevant standards. It's not that hard!
An honest hard working Aussie protecting peoples investments. Just came accross your channel. Shocked at what I am seeing. You earned yourself a subscriber.
The inspector should be sued. When I had my house built, I had inspections at the foundation pour, framing, fitting and pre handover. It cost but I saved a ton of money , time and grief. Plus the builder took more care with mine than he did with the other builds. Thank God for my buddy who's a builder.
The last big house I built I had the engineer signing off all the way through the build and then at the end the private certifier ( selected by the owner ) spent nearly 8 hrs going through every nut and bolt. He got me for the finish on the hand built polished timber stairs was too smooth, I take my hat off to you for what you are doing, the industry is being destroyed by volume builders who have no souls
I laboured on building sites 3 days a week from 2014-2020 all over Sydney. Worked on every site imaginable from massive commercial sites with 90 minute inductions to garden maintenance jobs conducted in a pensioners backyard and everything in between. Over that time i didn't encounter a single company nor tradesman that id have do work for me.
You know what's funny? I never really watch building and construction videos, but I came across your video the other day and I was hooked! The production value was just too good to resist, with the music, overlays, and pacing all on point. I ended up watching the entire thing and I have to say, well done mate!
I'm so so confused that, how is it, that the inspectors who sign these things off have absolutely no onus to answer for their (literal crimes) in approving unsafe, incomplete and not-to-code work? Why is there no law to hold them to account?
That’s what happens when you let an industry self regulate. No one independent to hold them accountable means that they just do what they want. It doesn’t help that the building groups lobby politicians so that no changes are made. Our leaders sold us out and continue to because they work for their donors and agendas
@@b0zz1380y Why bother having regulation at all though? Why even have an inspection and inspection report if, when it doesn't meet its regulations, nothing happens. The builders themselves could literally just write their own reports. The whole thing is just theatre. Such a broken system.
@@dons1932 because that’s the law. So they have to figure out a way to fudge a piece of paper to say what the law needs it to say to satisfy it. Now to us common sense folks we know it’s bullshit, but to the building industry and the state government it’s just the hurdle to get over
@BB-xx3dv its what they do with the banks, more banks = more competition and better outcomes lol. I remember the building services corporation in the 90s in NSW, then it was knee capped with this stupid self regulation idea.
Not only is this the bodgiest of builds, they also seem like the sort of faults that are so easy to do properly the first time, and an absolute nightmare to fix retroactively.
have you ever actucally been into the guts of these buildings? you are looking at something thats been upgraded and maintained since construction.. The civic buildings have a bit more to them, but anything residential was built as fast and as cheap as possible.
@@frankryan2505 There’s maintenance along the course of a building’s life but I’m illustrating that notwithstanding the absence of regulations and inspectors in the era, builders were STILL compelled ethically to construct well for the standard of the day. This is untrue now. Not only are buildings unattractive and without ornamentation, builders and inspectors can not be trusted. Something changed societally.
It's called survivor bias. The 100 year old buildings we see today are the ones that lasted 100 years (obviously). They also built a lot of crap (like we do today) but they didn't last. The ones that lasted were the ones that got lucky and got maintenance.
@@robertbyrne7241 I’m not sure that I completely agree. Yes there are always rogue builders but take a look at the mouldings, the stonemasonry, the ornate cast iron, natural bluestone, hardwood finishes. We use a lot of engineered products today, which should realistically economise on the build. It seems to have had the reverse affect on quality. Low building quality is escalating.
@@Samsgarden I served my apprenticeship in the UK,carried out an awful lot of heritage and ecclesiastical work so I have a bit of experience. Obviously we don't have the industry and poorly paid workforce to work on that scale and detail these days. But mainly you are comparing apple's to oranges, a row of victorian era terraces compared to modern townhouses are worlds apart. I agree that modern standards are terrible, but so much more goes into a modern building these days. I'm sure a builder could knock you up something cheap if your plumbing was a Belfast sink and outdoor shitter.
There needs to be criminal penalties to the builders, the stubbies and surveyors involved. Pierce the veil of the corporations and make them personally liable and that would clean stuff up!
What's the surveyors got to do with this! They likely just put the boundary pegs in and gave the builder 4 corners for the building location inside the lot and a finished floor level datum mark.
Perhaps you should keep quiet until you know the difference between a Subbie and a pair of Stubbies. I have not watched the video yet. However, what I see an Australian Western Oriental Gentleman walking around in a tactical vest on a building site.... Well...as a now retired third generation construction worker this should be entertaining.
Holy socks Batman, that complete build is beyond belief. How that could be considered legal is way beyond my understanding. Keep up the good work Sir, Australia needs people like you willing to highlight almost criminal construction.
Honestly becomes scary when you watch this man walk around multiple properties and the common denominator between them all is the phrase ‘non compliant’. I expect some sites to be like this, but each video sends me deeper down the shit builder rabbit hole. Keep this up mate, make these people accountable for their absolute shamozzles!
Awesome work. I am an electrician and I usually see some bad things....but this is beyond a joke. The certifier needs to be charged. The builders need to be charged. Just unbelievable. I am not a builder but even I know most of this stuff.
No, I was suggesting illegal DIY, as the system is broken anyway, and often you builder will sub contract to unlicensed to save money anyway. There is no accountability. If you know tradie mates that can show you how to diy. Save a fortune.
@bjtaudio that's unfortunately not a realistic option to most. An alternative is hiring a third party building certifier to do inspections at each stage, in particular the foundation build
@@bjtaudio It's not like I couldn't do the work. I'm an aircraft engineer, I'd build everything to within a thousandth of an inch! It's more the fact that I'd expect the council to come along and say.... "no building license? This all need to be torn down!"
I grew up in Australia and I have to say, when self regulating came into effect in Australia primarily with the sub trades in the 90’s that’s when it all went down hill. I am now a building contractor in Michigan USA and the process of inspections during the building process here works well to keep things to code and in check. After pulling a building permit, there is the footing inspection, rough electrical inspection , rough plumbing inspection , rough framing inspection , roofing inspection, insulation inspection, drywall inspection then the final inspections for all trades. And some of the inspectors over here are tough😉
I love your attention to detail and knowledge of the applicable standards. Based on what you’ve shown, I feel like this house would be a complete liability to own. I hope your excellent inspection leads to the homeowner getting these issues fixed. The industry needs more people like you!
My father, who’s a science teacher, has helped build homes with builders, etc and lots of work on my parents home…and it’s light years ahead of this. This is everyone’s nightmare…we also have the added burden of having extremely expensive realestate and building costs. Hope this family get their money back
I love your level of commitment to providing detailed inspections to a very high level, but could you please do follow up videos of these poorly built home upon handover after repairs, if they actually get done? Keep up your great work and videos, but you really should name the builders too, it would maybe make a difference to future build quality once they start loosing customers!

This man is single handedly fixing raising awareness of the bodgy crap going on in the residential building industry. Needs to start naming and shaming like Mr Chandler.
Keep it up bro. Im in the bathroom repair business and in sydney and i see it daily. Sydney has a massive problem with bad building and builders and certifiers and councils seem to walk away fine and the home owner is screwed. Call them all out councils included. Your a legend
The best advice I got from a nursing colleague was to get a site inspector before we accepted the keys. We had a few problems because we couldn’t get out because of lockdowns, but at least it could be sorted out.
no cause builders just declare bankruptcy and then start a new business. they need to stop hiding behinds companies and corporations and should be on their name... the owners will get nothing if he goes bust but the builder will keep everything
Our governments are sleepy gravy train slurpers and includes the most senior over paid bureaucrats to boot- time to hold these absolute blood sucking incompetents to account. Federal and state govt- what an ongoing joke - wasting our tax payer money, making sure they’re looked after and to bugger all to legislate and control important compliance matters - err like cowboy builders and dodgy surveyors
Truly these builders should be named and shamed, this is pathetic. The other thing is:- the Government should be held responsible, for allowing the sectors to help and assist each other, through each stage of building to account, and the worst thing is… even the certifiers are just as bad! They'll take the here-say of a builder instead of getting off their backsides to see what they approve.
If you understood the world, you would know there are secret societies that run this place. They look after each other, its why the world is so corrupt. It's also what critters like Jeffrey Epstein (Mossad) was up to, any politician, bureaucrat, or anyone with clout, got either bribed, blackmailed, threatened, or murdered, if they didn't tow the line. Look up - PRESIDENT KENNEDY'S SPECIAL MESSAGE TO THE CONGRESS ON URGENT NATIONAL NEEDS, MAY 25, 1961, he is speaking on this very subject, and I suspect the CIA=(Mossad) took him out because of it. By the way, RFK has been saying, just recently, the CIA did it. I would put a link, but I often get shadow banned, and a link would guarantee it. The nearest large town to us, has a Masonic Lodge right next door to the cop shop and Courthouse, what does that tell you?
Sorry, wrong speech. JOHN F. KENNEDY, “ADDRESS: THE PRESIDENT AND THE PRESS” (27 APRIL 1961) Snippets from the speech. [18] The very word “secrecy” is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. [21] Today no war has been declared-and however fierce the struggle may be, it may never be declared in the traditional fashion. Our way of life is under attack. Those who make themselves our enemy are advancing around the globe. The survival of our friends is in danger. And yet no war has been declared, no borders have been crossed by marching troops, no missiles have been fired. [22] If the press is awaiting a declaration of war before it imposes the self-discipline of combat conditions, then I can only say that no war ever posed a greater threat to our security. If you are awaiting a finding of “clear and present danger,” then I can only say that the danger has never been more clear and its presence has never been more imminent. [23] It requires a change in outlook, a change in tactics, a change in missions-by the government, by the people, by every businessman or labor leader-and by every newspaper. For we are opposed around the world by a MONOLITHIC AND RUTHLESS CONSPIRACY that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence-on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly-knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations. [24] Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed. It conducts the Cold War, in short, with a war-time discipline no democracy would ever hope or wish to match.

As a building apprentice in New Zealand, given a good idea of what bad workmanship and unfollow codes look like. Really speechless. Thank you for the video. Really worry about the homeowners.
You should be appointed minister for building. Great work exposing the building industry I’ve got roofing problems 11 leaks in a brand new house never use sk roofing in Newcastle they are a a disaster

As a tradie myself, id be so embarrassed to have this a a representation of my quality of work. shameful. Nice work keeping people up to scratch.
ESL teacher here, part of the problem (I think) is that the industry is dependent of foreign labour. Foreign labour itself is not the issue; it's the fact these people working are political campaign managers, doctors, accountants - whatever. They can't legally work FT jobs that require citizenship or a comprehensive VISA, so they can only get work in construction and service jobs mostly
My parents lived in a 100 year old weatherboard cottage. The neighbours built a house like this next door, and the builder hung an arm over the fence and told my Dad 'Your old house will be here a lot longer than this new one'.
Seems Chinas Dreg projects have had all these house builders knowing that you can cheat and skip alot of steps atleast we got these inspectors in the west.
I did not know that some builders in Australia were very sloppy and had very poor workmanship. It may be because those builders got cheap and unskilled laborers when they should've hired union and skilled labor in their respective trades. Dr. Horton, which is a very good builder here in the USA, has gotten sloppy lately, and its customers are already complaining. Thanks for sharing your expertise. It's very helpful, and if your advice is followed, it will save homeowners a lot of money, time, and headaches.
Do you ever find out how successful the owners are at getting the rectification work done? Curious how hard it is practically getting some of this fixed
@@5punkybob I recently heard that in nsw when a someone with a building licence goes bankrupt their building licence gets revoked. Might be true, might not.
Brings back memories of my first home I was worried when the guy doing the council inspection didn’t bring a ladder and stated no need to go in the roof space ! I ran to the neighbors and got a ladder so he could inspect and it got signed off as all good. A few months after we moved in massive horizontal cracks opened up all along the side walls of the home. I hired an inspector and turned out that among other things the main supporting I been for the roof was not there! So roof was unsupported and pushing the walls out as it collapsed!!!
Hey mate. Wondering what happens to all these homes? Especially the hectic bad ones. One of your videos came to an obvious knock down. Did they have to knock them down? I think you could add to your UA-cam by doing a podcast once a month and recall what happened to the Houses you inspected. That would be great. You do a great job mate. Might need to call you in the near future. Support. 🙏🙏🙏🙂
Generally his report is passed on to the owners solicitor and over the next few years the builder will let the owner bleed out with legal costs trying to get a fix. Fair Trading is a toothless tiger.
I had my home inspected by SiteInspections. Quite a few defects and non compliant items found. There was a major issue with a water leak which would have been undetected without them. As for the process. After the inspection you get the report, then it's going to come down to how your contract is structured as to what action you can take. For us we had the builder repair the leak, a lot of the defects were minor and for us not worth the hassle. Home owners who have this level of issues should first look at their legal options but then also provide videos like this to their government representatives and be very persistent in asking 'what actions are being taken to make builders and surveyors accountable for their builds, and what protections are being strengthened' ask for specifics, details, not buzz words and fluff. With enough noise change may come
same I would like to know how the home owners get on with the reports and what if anything the builders do and what if anything can be done to get them to fix all the breaches in the standards. Think "revisit" episodes would be great
@@nath5440 apparently the builders just bleed out the owners through legal costs hoping they will give up over a period of years and go broke. Apparently it takes years this matter. Hope site inspection guy will do the podcast. We would all support and appreciate 🙏
SA is becoming bad, especially the last 5 years. Indian and Afghani in the trade not qualified nor have the fine detail to do a trade are rampant. The only decent Afghani tradies i have seen are tilers, but only 3 of them. As for painters, nah. It's not their fault...the government is allowing this to fester.
I work in the construction industry in WA and there are bad builders and trades here too. Gee I've seen dodgy stuff and I'm not even an inspector knowing what to look for.
If youre thinking of buying in australia, you better do this. Youre a legend, this needs to be brought to light here so bad. When aomething like this come to light, the building surveyor should be scrutinised as to how it slipped past, or if they were just paid off. These are pretty easy spots.
The house next door to my brothers house was rebuilt with only the front facade retained. We tried talking to the builders but not one of them spoke English ! Another neighbour visited the council to see the building plans but none had been submitted ! This is what happens when things get privatised, it opens the gate to corruption. Love your work SITE INSPECTIONS.
Are you nuts? You think leaving things to the government will fix corruption? The only thing that fixes things like this are courts that uphold the law. We dont need more taxes and pencil pushers.
A contractor and myself just had major issues with a bathroom remodel, the tile company sent a worker to tile a shower and the floor. Told us they were done, my contractor called me and said please come look at this job. “ IT SUCKED “,, the job was bad, the Kerdi board was installed wrong, the Schluter sub floor was installed upside down. Everything to do with the tiling system was completely removed and redone. This bathroom is 10’ x 10’ it’s been 10 months since we started the process and the tile company is complaining about payment. My contractor sent them payment of what was left of the money, after all of my back charges and his extra work. Not one person from the tile company would take responsibility, the person sent to do the work, subbed it out to a couple of immigrants from Central America. The homeowner is happy with myself and contractor, they said don’t pay the tile company. Take pride in your work !!!!!! 41 years of being a plumber, I wished to hell I had tiled it !
If I ever save up enough for a home, I'll just build it with my own trades and inspectors, builders are so horrific nowadays, and it's so hard to find the good ones.
@somedude5353 it doesn't matter how shonky the subbies are, the bloody builder is the one who allows these monkeys to work this way. If the builder isn't checking on the trades then what the hell is he doing in the first place?
Totally agree. I'd rather live with my own mistakes than live with someone else's. At least I care about the work I do (and I've built two houses and three big sheds over the years).
Great idea BUT Developers allocate lots to favored builders only. The public is not invited. You might consider buying a 'not so great' shape house-NOT A GROW HOUSE- and fix it yourself. This way, you avoid all the red tape, the meatball subs AND the neighbors will love you for cleaning up the eye sore. Just a thought.
I worked for a Sydney builder for a year. On their Victorian homes. They are one of the many Indians getting registered, how they get their registration is beyond me. I tried to build to my usual standard but they were so hard to work for with no common sense. They imported all tapware and toilets and basins and a lot of electrical fittings . All the plumbing items came with the wells insignia on them but im sure this was never tested. So i would guess these window are the same and have come in from china.
If people actually look into the lies of China, the collapsing roads, collapsing buildings, the collapsing bridges, it is a country that do not follow the code, it's not a country you should trust with their products for your home.
I got out of new build domestic plumbing after my apprentoceship and have never looked back a few years ago. Too many cowboy builders and trades. The worse tradesmanship ive experienced is concreters, chippy and brickies. The issue with plumbers in my own profession has always been the companies that send out apprentices by themselves forcing them to learn by themselves by making mistakes due to greed.
When you see someone on their belly, crawling in dirt underneath a house saying "I can smell non-compliant works here guys, I can smell it...!" You know you're watching a man who loves what he does for a living! 😄 Another highlight: "Nice view as well...nice view from the non-compliant sliding door!" Ha! Ha! Good stuff Mate! 😆 Keep 'em honest! 👍
I love your background music, nice touch. Just finished working with a home insurance company, and it's mistakes like this that hold up or mess up peoples claims completely due to building defects and standards, not up to date. And it leaves home owners so lost and confused. I like watching these vids 😊
Honestly this is a very interesting channel that I randomly stumbled across. Definitely keep posting updates and the outcomes of each job, people definitely love to know what happens and fingers crossed people continue to be held accountable. All the best with your business
@Site Inspections, you are doing the great job mate. Keep up the great work !! We all are counting on your videos as i found them educational too. My heart goes out to the buyer of these sort of properties. Some builders doesn't seem to care for hard earned money and efforts put by buyers to settle in their dream home. These sort of low quality builders and tradies needs to be ban from construction industry.
Matu I’m watching this on my tv and I had to pull out my phone to compliment the editing of this video. Absolutely superb and I would LOVE to see this continue. It helps learn so much and he’ll give perspective where in the house we are looking at when we were under the floor. GREAT WORK!
Wouldn't this house technically be considered a condemned building in the eyes of the local council even though it's "brand new"? Given how many issues you found with it throughout the video i think it could qualify for that...What really needs to happen though is every single inspector that has looked over this site up until you have needs to have their paperwork combed over that gave each stage of inspection a pass (depending on how many inspections there were of course) and if they don't match what yours says (yours is essentially the "final" one before handover) then every single one prior to yours is probably hand in hand with the builders...
I'd say chances are the builders would have their own preferred private certifier. With a private PCA, will be much easier to get their occupation certificate. I would like to have enough faith that a public certifier through Council would not sign off on this.
Builders in Sydney are popping up quicker than kebab trailers and It completely amazes me that people will seek them out for their builds instead of getting a reputable builder that's been in the game for decades, while mistakes will still happen they will always be fixed.
Well you have #1 builder Porter Davis crashing and #1-contender builder Metricon almost crashing, with Carlisle now the #1. Only time can tell if Carlisle won't crash too. So it's not all about reputation. "Past performance is no guarantee of future results"
As a painter with 30 yrs in the trade those stairwell walls are commonplace since expansion joints were introduced. I did new work on luxury homes for 15 of those years and had to stop because the builds got more complicated and the surface quality of plastering and carpentry got too rough. And on top of that the m2 rates went down from $32m2 to $28m2, although the builders charged the client $68m2, more than double my rate. I wont touch complete new builds anymore. Just Reno’s and repaints
Here in New Zealand I can not get over the fact he would get such a fantastic property for 750k, watch you crawl around under the house brought back memories of my tradie days, she's right mate, the painter will fix the gaps, good on you mate
Is it possible to see the after effects, upon presentation of your reports and recommendations as to what corrective works have been done, and HOW do building surveyors get away with such dodgy work? Thanks for your ongoing investigation, and exposing breakdowns on many levels in the building chain.
I moved to Australia a year ago and was and still am shocked about the finish of most houses. Nails/screws sticking out, uneven floors, openings (for mice and other rodents) where there shouldn’t be etc etc. I was also unpleasantly surprised about the general quality of homes. I thought they would have more solid and thicker walls and definitely more insulation as it can be very cold and windy during winters without it. It’s a pity that insulation and ‘smart windowing’ seem to be ‘not a thing’ overhere. Also the window frames look so high maintenance (+ old fashioned) and of questionable quality and I’m missing window ledges due to the fact that outer walls are so thin and not that sturdy overhere. I come from a country where they use cement and brick so I understand I have to adjust my expectations to how they build houses overhere but I have difficulty understanding why no modern insulation techniques and double glazed window (with double openings) aren’t used. I feel sorry for the family moving into this house. This house is a recipe for the disaster. I hope they’re contractually protected for all of the issues that are non-compliant. This is not how moving into your new home should look like😞.
It's the result of a couple decades of degradation of oversight and an increase in the political power of building/construction lobby groups, both through financial contributions and by getting industry plants into official placements. Not that it wasn't an issue before that, of course, but it's definitely reached the point that a problem gets to when the perpetrators have got away with increasingly worse standards over time to a point of complacency.
I thought exactly the same as you. I am still very shocked by what I learn and see everyday. I was told that this has been problem for decades apparently and the building construction quality is quite poor in Victoria where I live.
if it looks good on the outside don't be fooled don't buy townhouses in Sydney lot of hidden defects and non complying materials there must be a overhaul in the construction industry inspection on every part while constructing buyers beware!!
This is why I built my home myself, except for the plumbing and electrical. It took over 2 years, but at least I knew every bit complied with standards.
the way you overlay the schematics and blueprints is awesome! Thanks for putting in the effort, I really enjoyed watching every second because of those pop up images
Presumably it relates to it not being their house, so not their problem... and the pickier they get, the madder the "customers" get, which could impact their job security. Possibly also pressure from above due to the "housing crisis".
Its really sad to see building quality has gone downhills since the past. I used to live in old house both at Rosewater and Cheltenham in Adelaide and it was so good quality and it last over 50 years. It does need maintenance, yes, of course. But the way how they use to build back then was much better quality back in the past.
Houses aren't built to last any more. I'd only expect modern houses to last thirty years before tearing it down. Handing down a house for generations will stop, it is engineered to be that way. We will all own nothing and be happy, apparently.
@@erichnienkeschaal6316Yes that's correct. Most modernised house at West Lakes did not last over 30 years at all. Some have already knocked down and have built new square cardboard style house like Mawson Lakes nowadays with everything in square and rectangle shape.
There's survivorship bias working in our favour. My house is from the late 70's. I'm sure there were crap builds happening back then but the amount of them still standing is pretty low
If I was a builder I would have a guy like this signing off on each stage of every build before even contemplating telling a client a stage was completed. Where is the pride is peoples work gone? How can they hand something like that over to a family in good conscience? What a disgrace. No wonder they’re all going broke.
Wow 😲. Our sons bought new homes in Western Sydney. One of them also bought a new unit in Bexley about 6 years ago. Two more sons are going to buy in the next year or so. I need to introduce them to the Inspector.
You'd be amazed at some of the buildings I've seen that have been certified, being a Fire Technician. The worst I saw was a new 5-storey building of residential units that looked like it was built with leftover supplies from some builders warehouse. The fire rated door frames were too short by 150mm, which means I was looking through the gap and waving at the family having breakfast inside. The building had been certified and serviced by other technicians twice, before I came along and flagged every defect on the building 🤣
I hope you also can provide pathways for the owners to fight the non-compliance issues. It can be hard to get help when these builders have big bad lawyers and cash to run these owners into the ground. Doing amazing work!
Building inspector that passed it ,, passed the house on the way to the pub to meet the builder for a counter meal , getting out of the car must be against company policies
In the mid 70's it was known that SCOs' (safety code officers) would hand out bundles of signed off inspection stickers to the builder. Sad to hear counter meals have replaced country club memberships.
It seems to be such a problem I think banks would send out their own inspectors weekly to monitor the construction since it is the collateral for a mortgage.
Easy answer...Beer ! Perhaps the builders slip the inspectors a couple of slabs of Castlemain XXXX (because the building inspector is too stupid to spell "Beer" !)

Something changed societally.
It's called survivor bias. The 100 year old buildings we see today are the ones that lasted 100 years (obviously). They also built a lot of crap (like we do today) but they didn't last. The ones that lasted were the ones that got lucky and got maintenance.

Remember diversity is a strength and we are all equal. The country is finished
If people actually look into the lies of China, the collapsing roads, collapsing buildings, the collapsing bridges, it is a country that do not follow the code, it's not a country you should trust with their products for your home.
Another great video.
I see the termite barriers are useless on alot of these new homes too.breached before move in.
Thank you so much for what you are doing for ppl! Restores my faith in humanity
Builder " why is the final payment only one dollar?"
Buyer " it is what it is mate!"
When you see someone on their belly, crawling in dirt underneath a house saying "I can smell non-compliant works here guys, I can smell it...!" You know you're watching a man who loves what he does for a living! 😄
Another highlight: "Nice view as well...nice view from the non-compliant sliding door!"
Ha! Ha! Good stuff Mate! 😆
Keep 'em honest!
Exactly the same story as myself. The day I stopped doing new homes was the best day of my life.
As a carpenter, stairwells are an utter nightmare. Just pure misery to get them good.
You are so right ✅️
What a waste of time, resources and money...
I thought exactly the same as you. I am still very shocked by what I learn and see everyday. I was told that this has been problem for decades apparently and the building construction quality is quite poor in Victoria where I live.
If youre gon a buy a house, buy old. Anything built in the last 20 years is a coin toss as to how its gonna fall apart.
if it looks good on the outside don't be fooled don't buy townhouses in Sydney lot of hidden defects and non complying materials
there must be a overhaul in the construction industry inspection on every part while constructing buyers beware!!
This is why I built my home myself, except for the plumbing and electrical. It took over 2 years, but at least I knew every bit complied with standards.
the way you overlay the schematics and blueprints is awesome! Thanks for putting in the effort, I really enjoyed watching every second because of those pop up images
I'm at a loss to understand how building inspectors can sign off on jobs like this with what appears to be no accountability or repercussions?
You think there are people inspecting buildings ? What delusional world do you live in ?
Presumably it relates to it not being their house, so not their problem... and the pickier they get, the madder the "customers" get, which could impact their job security.
Possibly also pressure from above due to the "housing crisis".
@@tin2001 is it a 'housing crisis' or an overpopulation/mass immigration crisis?

Cubby house i built for the kids is more compliant than this joint, the owners must be livid 😡
Best truest and saddest comment here. ❤😂😢
@@janegarnham i really feel for the home buyers
@@tamaustralia4949 i would rather live in a well built cubby haha as I am only 147cm I would fit nicely.
Great work. An honest bloke
If I was a builder I would have a guy like this signing off on each stage of every build before even contemplating telling a client a stage was completed. Where is the pride is peoples work gone? How can they hand something like that over to a family in good conscience? What a disgrace. No wonder they’re all going broke.
Would be good to see a follow up of these properties and what the owners have been able to salvage
It looks like it's 300mm from the side fences ! How depressing, on top of everything else...😢
Wow 😲. Our sons bought new homes in Western Sydney. One of them also bought a new unit in Bexley about 6 years ago. Two more sons are going to buy in the next year or so. I need to introduce them to the Inspector.
Crawling under the floor " i can smell non-compliance work here" 🤣🤣🤣
My rich cousin knocked his multimillion house down at Pymble and rebuilding a custom designer, may all the construction gods be with him.
Thank you for your videos, I feel so sorry for new home buyers in Australia.
Why ? If you are buying a new home there are loads of grants for it ? If they have the money why do you feel sorry for them ?
I'm an owner builder and I can do a better job! Well done on pointing all the defects out... those bent walls are mind blowing.
We need a Royal Commission into Australian building standards. What a circus! 2nd, perhaps 3rd world in parts. Keep up the great work, man! 🙏
@@nspctor7729 the world's moved on. I'm guessing
It seems to be such a problem I think banks would send out their own inspectors weekly to monitor the construction since it is the collateral for a mortgage.
I just dont understand how a house gets this far without being stopped with failed inspections?
Easy answer...Beer ! Perhaps the builders slip the inspectors a couple of slabs of Castlemain XXXX (because the building inspector is too stupid to spell "Beer" !)
Keep up the great work!! This is criminal how they could sign off on this shoddy work!! It makes me sick to my stomach!!!
Good on you bro ! Good to see there are some honest ones still out there. Please keep on doing what you are doing. Bloody legend'
