- The wife has been bugging me to take a look at the dryer for at least a month. Well...ive had the parts for at least a month...In this video I show how to take apart a LG DLGX7188WM gas dryer and replace the rollers, belt and idler. We get a few surprises on the way!
Note: This is a step by step "How to" which makes it a pretty long video.

I ordered the repair kit for $28 total off of Amazon, but turns out that I don’t need it……at least for now.
I have the LG DLGX7188WM Steam Dryer. After watching your video, I was able to completely take mine apart, only to discover that the wheels were still in good shape. Since it was taken apart, I vacuumed out the entire inside of it. It’s amazing how dirty and full of lint it was.
It turns out that with my dryer, somehow an ankle sock got sucked into the squirrel cage blower and half of the sock was in and half outside of the blower inside of the dryer. When the squirrel cage blower would rotate, with the sock half in and half out around the edge, the sock was going in between the wheel and the dryer drum making what is almost an identical sound as a bad wheel(s) with the bearings having failed. The sock was creating a “speed bump” that was causing all of the racket like a failed bearing(s). I simply removed the sock, cleaned everything, reassembled it and the problem was resolved.
My dryer is in a VERY small cramped space and I was still able to remove the drum without having to move the dryer out at all. I didn’t even have to remove the two screws behind the door in order to remove that entire front door/fascia panel from the dryer. The only moving I had to do was to slide the dryer out about 6” further from the back wall in order to remove the first three screws which hold the top panel of the dryer on.
From start to finish which included cleaning the dryer was about two hours. Maybe a bit longer, but not much. This, in a cramped confined area as well.
For anyone that is going to attempt this, it is actually a pretty easy job to do. What I did to make reassembling everything easier, was to mark each screw hole with a sharpie so that you immediately see which hole had a screw, because there are multiple holes. In addition, tape each screw to the portion of the section that you removed it from as you disassemble each part. While most of the screws are the same size, this will guarantee that you have the correct screw for the hole that it came out of.
As another gentleman mentioned in the comments here, the plastic steam unit does not need to be removed from the dryer to remove the drum. In addition, there is no need to remove the door from the front fascia. Simply remove the front dryer fascia and everything else is attached to it. It’s all one piece. You “can” disassemble more, if you want a more through cleaning. As far as replacing the wheels, there is no need to remove the entire wheel and the shaft which is bolted onto the panels of the dryer itself. It is a super easy fix. There are triangular shaped plastic retention clips that simply pop off. These hold the wheel on. Pop them off, slide off the wheel and slide the new back on. Put the retention clip(s) back on and you’re good.
This video is invaluable for repairing this dryer. In fact, it shows that once you disassemble it, you now have access to replace anything else that may have gone out. Once the drum is removed, there is a lot of room to work inside of the dryer. There actually are not too many parts. I am glad that I was able to clean the motor, because it was covered in lint.

We did miss how you installed back rollers, etc., but will find out today.
We LUCKED OUT that lint accumulation near ELECTRIC HEATER DID NOT START FIRE, as lint accumulation was so great that it wrapped around & felted around one roller so severely that it broke. (Definitely loose & broke tetaining clip.) All 3 other rollers were ok but were also wrapped with only a litlle lint & clips intact.
We clean lint trap after each use & vents annually & outside vent with animal guard monthy. (Should make vacumn nozzle that can reach down to bottom of dryer trap lint catchment as can see lint down there.)
Dryer is about 14 years old. First time that we've opened it. Shocked by how much lint accumulated. HOW DOES SO MUCH LINT GET INSIDE DRYER. WHERE IS THE LINT LEAK???? Front panel, blower, etc. Heard it could be the drum that leaks lint, especially if vent clogged.
LG Dryers need to be easier to open to inspect & clean lint & be part of periodic maintenance schedule.
Disassembled & cleaned everything thus far but the motor which was just vacumned. (Did remove hair wrapped around motor spindle to blower.)
Great dryer! Hope it is good for another 15 years with periodic internal inspections for lint!
Yours was the only video I found that had the steam tray. That added a lot of complexity that I hadn't anticipated. Thank you for taking your time, explaining well, recalling which screw went where, and showing every step. The only step I needed to refer to another video for was how to get the belt back on the tensioner. Someone did a video where they left the back off to show this particular step. Thank you again! The filter housing should be vacuum cleaned every year to help with the build up of lint.
