    First off let me say your video was such a great help with this project. I found the video when I did a Google search for the noise my dryer was making. Let me say this dryer is over 20 years old and this was the first repair that ever needed to be made on it. The step by step instructions were spot on. The link to the parts on your web site was helpful, however I found the wheels cheaper on Amazon but not a big deal. I know you guys have to make a living. I found 4 wheels for the cost of 2 of yours. But again, I totally get it. So for the cost of the rollers and a set of metric wrenches from Home Depot (Grand total of $63.84) I broke the dryer down, cleaned out the UN GODLY amount of lent and replaced all 4 rollers (Only one roller was bad but why not just replace all 4 while I'm in there) for less then $100. A local repair guy quoted me over $450 to do the same thing. 2 years ago, I used your step by step video to replace two water valves in the LG washer we have. So, my hope is with these two simple repairs I may have extended the washer and dryer another 15 to 20 years. You guys ROCK and thank you for providing the videos.

      Read some reviews on the Amazon rollers. No thanks, I do not want to do this again in a year.

    I have an LG dryer purchased in 2007. Model: DLE9577SM. It was squeaking at start-up and rumbling a little . Not knowing what parts I would actually need, I ordered rollers with/without assemblies, tensioner pulley-only, new belt. After viewing this video a couple of times, I attacked my machine which is located in the comfort of my garage. Lots of room to spread out. Nice. This disassembly went OK however because, I suspect, my machine is 13 years old, the removal of the control panel was different than shown in the video. No locking tabs. My control panel has a screw hidden behind a plastic tab "press here", on the right hand side corner (as you face machine) which you remove, THEN the whole control panel will slide from left to right for removal . You may have to use a mallet on the left hand side with a light tap to unlodge it. With my control panel, it was not necessary to disconnect all, rather just some, of the terminals so I was able to lay the whole thing to the side and proceed. The rest of the disassembly went according to the video. Turned out my belt was frayed and one of my rollers was bad. Replaced both items and will return the unused parts for a full refund.
    Miscellaneous notes:
    Gloves on all the time, sheet metal sharps at every turn. No blood drawn !
    All of the phillips screws are the same size.
    Some of the screws were VERY hard to remove. Fortunately I had a new, correct size, phillips screwdriver which provided a very tight fit, especially after I whacked it with the mallet, so I was able to get all screws out undamaged. But I could see why some people would have trouble and run-out/damage the phillips heads. Good idea to have a hand-held impact driver on site just in case.
    After you lift off the drum and the tension assembly is visible/available, do a dry-fit with the belt just so you are familar with how it fits because when you put the drum back on, putting that belt in place is a little bit of a challenge.
    On my specific model: ontop of the machine, on the top of the control panel, is a separate trim piece, about 2" wide and runs the length of the top of the panel: there is no need to remove it but if you want to, it slides either to the left or the right, can't remember now. If you pry it straight up (like i did), one or more of the clips will break. Fortunately, even though I broke one of the clips, it re-seated just fine.
    The bad roller I replaced: I replaced it with a "roller assembly" and not just a "roller". I may have been able to disassemble the bad roller assembly, retain the axle and put on just a new roller ? I will tear apart the bad assembly and will update this comment with what I discover.
    Re-installing the drum: I did it by myself, but it would have been useful to have another person help with this. It's a little awkward lifting the drum, getting the roller in place, getting the panel into the notches, etc..It's not heavy, just awkward, a kid could help.
    Cleaning out dust/lint: when everything is removed, good time to clean out the vents. I stuck my leaf blower in the vent and blasted away. Not much came out which is good to know also, apparently has been venting properly the last 13 years. Did the same for the outside vent.
    Keep track of your screws: after I put everything back together, 2 screws left over---crap ! However, within 4 minutes I was able to locate the voids and put everything back together.
    Took me 4 hours to do all this, learning along the way. If there is a next time, should be able to do it in less than 2 hours.
    Tools needed: Phillips screw driver with proper head size (whatever that is ??); maybe a hand-held impact driver; if replacing rollers, open-end wrench and sockets as noted in the video.

    We had a dryer almost identical to the one you did your tutorial with. Our dryer was squealing and smelling like smoke. YIKES! We ordered all the parts you show replacing as we followed along on your video. A big thanks! We're back in business now with a 'like' new dryer.

    Excellent instructions, thank you. The kit I bought came with the belt tensioner arm (I don't know if that is the official name) and spring, but the pictures showing the arm in place was all I needed.

    Great video but my model LG is different. The computer board is on the left side panel. There are only two connectors that need disconnected but they made them very hard. First there are two standoffs holding the cables needing disconnected that have built in cable ties. I had to cut the standoffs off to get the cable loose. Also the locking tabs are not the old simple style where you press on the lever to release. You need a tool to spread the two sides of the connector apart while you pull the cable out. To make matters worse on on connector on the circuit board the locking tab was facing down. It took me at least and 1/2 hour just to disconnect those two connectors. I had a thumping sound when the dryer was running so I bought replacement wheels. I got LG OEM newer style with sealed roller bearings and a metal C clip. They seemed to have more slop than all four of the older wheels (wiggling wheel). They do roll much better, if you spin it with your finger it rolls for over 10 seconds where the old ones only roll for one second. I only bought two because of the cost and didn't think all four would be bad. Put the new ones on the back and reused the front wheels. There was no wear on the rubber of the wheels and they didn't wobble. It makes the same thumping noise! Tried leaving the top off and touching the drum when running and didn't notice any movement with the drum. I could try two more wheels but I don't think that is it. What else can make a thump sound every revolution? Fyi the top was much heavier than I thought when removing it!

      @toddac61 3 роки тому

      One more thing the original wheel bolts had locktight on them so I needed to hit the wrench with a mallet to break them loose for the first few turns.

    • @toddac61
      @toddac61 3 роки тому

      My problem turns out to be at the seam of the drum itself. There is a small tear in the metal and every revolution the metal flexes at the crack and makes a noise. It is only 4 or 5 years old also.

      List of tools to repair dryer.
      1. Philips screw driver.
      2. A 14mm wrenches that I did not have, but the 9/16" is about the same size as the 14mm.
      I used a 10mm ratchet wrench for the rollers. The screws and some connectors where hard to remove, so while re-assembling, I used a tooth-pick and a VERY small amount of plumbers grease on the screw holes and in the electrical connectors so it will be easier to work on next time.

      In case anyone is curious, I happened to have rollers from a Whirlpool without a shaft and they do not fit on the shaft of the LG rollers.
      But I was able to remove all the hairs and lint and the roller (only 1 was stuck) spun freely after that so you might not need to replace the rollers anyway.

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  5 років тому

      New parts can sometimes briefly have a hot smell, but if you smell smoke, then you should discontinue use of the appliance until the problem is found.

      Sometimes disassembling the dryer will knock lint and fuzz loose which gets into the burner( if gas heated) or on the electric heating element.
      ALWAYS check the fan and especially the ductwork from the lint filter to the fan for lint and debris that falls down in there when the lint filter is removed to clean .
      Recommend disconnect power and disassemble then inspect from the lint screen to the fan and the heating element/ burner also. Make sure there is free flow of exhaust air to outside!

    • @jonkrahmer3987
      @jonkrahmer3987 3 роки тому

      Maybe you knocked some dust loose and it landed on the burner. I was concerned about the same thing, so I used soap and water to clean every part before putting it back together. Also, if the belt ends up on the motor shaft instead of the pulley, that may cause problems and bad rubber burning smell..
