I’m glad you can show the real back street/back alley vibes that represents the various neighborhoods of Tokyo. There are gems waiting to be discovered everywhere! Cool video👍👍
Japanese people take their coffee seriously probably more so than many US people since the origin and how it’s brewed is just as important as simply drinking black liquid.
I LOVED this livestream, John! This is my ideal Tokyo Saturday morning - top notch, low hype coffee and bakery items in a quiet, local neighbourhood with no tourists 😂 hope Leo is feeling better and if you go back with PvG, please wait until I return to go with you guys 🤖☕now we're living!
Enjoyable and great stream , you found great coffee from several places like Tiny Paradise 5:09 how about that sandwich what you ate 41:02🥪it sude did looked delicious 😋That other coffee shop ARISE at 47:15 looked great too 😎Thank you John🙂👍!!!
Small Cafe's or kisaten like that in the neighborhood are one of the best places to go and meet the locals there i like it with the showa era vibes, very nice video John thank you so much
I always make sure to save some of your videos to my playlist so that way I can save these for some places that I may visit later. Can't wait to see some more hidden gems from here. Thanks for showing this video; I rewatched it a few times.
Wow! Coffee, Coffee, Coffee!!! Wish I could enjoy a cup with you. Thanks for sharing this and if I could visit Japan I would definitely visit that area of Tokyo. 🙂
Were staying at Mystays Kiyosumi, thanks to theses videos. Nice and close to Monzennakacho. The hotel rooms are very large for Tokyo and has a little kitchenette. Thank you for introducing the area!
I love coffee and we unintentionally picked this location for our accommodation. Planning to explore in the morning before diving into our itinerary but the shops open at 10am/11am. Might need to check all the coffee shops to see early birds.
Oh John what a lovely video! Watched it while sitting on an overlook on the Pacific Ocean sipping my latte from our amazing coffeee shop in Jenner, CA.
Wow! What an awesome awesome neighborhood! I want to go visit it just to try her coffee and the cookies! John, it’s so wonderful how you’re supporting the local small businesses ❤️😊🤟 This is a delightful video… Every city needs places like this, and a John to cover it 😊 Thank you ! Will be revisiting this video many times! Sharing it with all my friends 😊
LOL, Tiny Paradise is the type of place I love to find. Next time you are there, suggest that they put out a tiny table and chairs to sit and take in the atmosphere.
I'm just now watching this a year later. I gotta eat that sandwich and walk around down there, hopefully without getting lost! Your reaction about wanting to run around and shout how good it was ,was like my mom would say, " It's so good , your tongue will slap your brains out"😂 Thanks for this exploring videos, it inspires me to be brave and explore more!
Aloha John, Following your suggestion, roamed around Kiyosumi Shirakawa in October and loved the relaxed vibe of the place. Unfortunately Arise Coffee was closed early that day, so we’ll try again this coming October, hopefully earlier in the day. We also gravitated to less “touristy” areas like Katsuhika City, Nagoya and Hyogo Prefecture. As you warned, Kyoto was way too crowded, but since it was our first time in the Kansai area, we had to go there. In fact, you did a livestream from Kyoto Station while we were there, but unfortunately, we didn’t “find you”. Oooh, so close. Looking forward to continuing our off the beaten path trip this October to more local areas of Tokyo, Nagoya, Hida-Furukawa and Okayama. We’ve followed you for several years and your videos are informative and entertaining. The one directing us to Tokyo Station for the Toica card was a godsend. Needed to get a permanent IC card with the unavailability of Suica & Passmo and navigating to the right counter was easy. Our regards to Kanae & Leo. Mahalo!!!
I’m so happy you enjoyed your walk around here. I do that once a season. Esp on the weekends when there is a buzz but definitely not crowded. I’ll also be around :) hope to catch you then. Mahalo!
I love the casual converations with the native Japanese. Especially, the one with the long conversation with one that was brewing for 10 years. Id want to be profficient enough in japanese to throw in light hearted jokes and understand them also
It really helps to open up the world when you speak enough of the language to get to know people, ask questions, learn. Just the way the language flows also helped me understand how Japan flows.
i really enjoyed this livestream john! was cool to see this area and watch you visit all the coffee shops. i will definitely be visiting when i go back to japan in september! you kept talking about how it's nice and quiet and this is the real tokyo. when i went to japan a few weeks ago i visited daikanyama and yanaka and got the same vibes. very quiet, residential areas with their own allure (local food, stores, etc.). i enjoyed both those areas and it would be cool if you could do a similar video for them. i also went to shimokita but was surprised to see a lot of tourists there! it was quite busy. i guess the vintage shopping draws a lot of crowds
I loved that you lagot lost, that's one way to find hidden treasures. And you don't have to go to South America to practice your spanish, come to Mexico, we have so many lovely small towns were you can inmerse yourself in our culture and language while you eat.
Thanks John for this great livestreams I enjoyed it. Place to go and also it's place to life there as well. Great work as usual. 👍👍 I'm glad Leo is okay. Greeting to Kanae and Leo. Mata Ne 🙏🙏✌✌🍻🍻🍻🍻 Kampai
1:10:06 Hi John you should go back to this souvenir & candy shop, 江戸みやげ屋たかはし (Edo Miyageya Takahashi). There is a delightful old couple, Mr. & Mrs Takahashi who have operated this shop for decades. The wife is an illustrator who draws cartoons and caricatures. The husband like to entertain tourists with tricks involving sticks and such.
I've had Arise as a place to visit for years. I don't know how I first heard about it. Have you been there before in another stream? And to learn about Fukadaso and Rikashitsu down the street is great. Had no idea about the neighborhood, only knew about Arise. Thanks so much for the exposure. This neighborhood will be my first stop, if not the place to stay, on my next visit.
Thanks for the great stream, John! I absolutely love Japanese neighborhoods because of how unique and full of character they are. And because Tokyo is so huge, there are so many hidden alleyways and streets that it seems like everywhere you go is an adventure! One of the best parts are finding these unique mom and pop shops that beat chain businesses any day. Would love to see a main channel video highlighting the uniqueness of Japanese neighborhoods!
If you’re a fan of coffee, Bear Pond in Shimokitazawa has fantastic coffee. It has mixed reviews online as it’s not really a place to go with cameras, hang around for a long time, nor is it a place for long conversations, and I guess some people want a coffee shop to be that so they mark it down. If you just want to sit and enjoy coffee or grab a take out though, I don’t think anywhere matches it for coffee in Tokyo.
@@onlyinjapanGOHe’s a man of culture 😂 It’s such a unique area for Tokyo I think, it reminds me of certain areas of where I’m from in Sheffield UK. If you’re around in late November I’ll buy you a coffee :)
Watching you sip the Dominican coffee looked like a religious experience. The expression on your face said it all. ❤️ John arose at Arise..😜 I love getting lost with you on the walkabouts in Tokyo. 🥰 Love this extended edition of your live. ❤️ I hope Leo recovers soon and feels better 🙏
My family is in Minamisenju, go I chill there when I visit. I'm torn on whether I want to spend more time in Big Tokyo (Shibuya, Akihabara, Shinjuku, etc.) or kick it in the kinbo (the hood) Tokyo like this neighborhood
Blue Bottle gets major credit for helping popularize the third wave coffee movement, and they have great espresso drinks, but they're owned by Nestlé now, and their drip coffee has never been great in comparison to the smaller independent coffee shops that have sprung up in the last 10-15 years or so. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, where blue bottle started, no one really talks about them as a great coffee destination other than tourists and out of owners.
Blue Bottle, def credit where deserved :) but I thought the local guy at Arise has less wait and better coffee ☕️ but the place to sit inside blue bottle is quite nice, old warehouse of glass. Can’t blame the tourists. That bakery though!! Put it all together, it’s an incredible town.
Hi John great neighborhood walk video. Wishing Leo a speedy recovery. Well worth visiting the doctor’s office just to be sure. It’s been a while since you did a night walk. Perhaps this can be the perfect spot for a night time stroll? ✌🏼
Thanks! He’s better today! Yes - better to be safe than sorry, thankfully it seems to have just been a bug. Fever broke, he’s okay now. This neighborhood is THE BEST for a stroll or lazy Saturday, Sunday. That bakery was incredible. Have to go back at night to find out!
I love this Place , definitely will go , I heard that the SUICA card is being canceled do you know anything about it John, if so , could you do a live stream about it ?

Beautiful suburb so clean and peaceful

Wow, outta all 1500 streams?!?

it amazes me how all these coffee shops are able to survive
Japan 🗾 people are hard workers , good manners, simply great country with great people. Sure bits NY ...
