The cafe & coffee scene in Japan is incredible, I am OBSESSED ✨ Any other coffee/cafe lovers out there?? 😍 If you don't believe me... Tokyo actually JUST ranked as the world's 2nd best city for coffeee!! (with Sydney my hometown right behind in 3rd place) ☕
When an Aussie girl gives comments on coffee shops, she automatically deserves trust😉 Australia was definitely one of the greatest coffee countries out there. We indulged ourselves with four coffees per day at a minimum when we travelled to Australia earlier this year. Now I'm so ready for our upcoming trip to Kyoto/Osaka next month!
I stayed in the APA across from Kurasu when I was in Kyoto, some of the best espresso I had in Japan. I met a lovely gentleman there named Kokoro who was a tour guide having a break. He was learning German in the cafe, while speaking to me in English, as well as Japanese I don't doubt he knew some other languages too. An impressive chap, and one of my favorite conversations while visiting.
Oat milk may enhance the coffee flavour because unlike cow's milk which may have a high fat concentration, it is carbohydrate/sugar based and thus contrasts the coffee nicely. In Italy drinking coffee with a little bit of sugar is recommended
We welcome you in Kyoto where I'm living. This video is so fun even for us living in the city. Next time, you are invited to stop by Cafe Soiree near Shijo-Kiyamachi. The cafe has a very long history and a unique fantastic classical atmosphere probably you can't find it any other else. I believe you would love it!
I’m going to Tokyo, Nara and Kyoto this December, and your videos have been helping me expand my itinerary ☺️. I’m plant based, and I thank you for including vegan options! 🌱
I'm not a cafe person but there was one in Uji called Uji-Biyori that I'd never forget Went for the matcha coffee and ice cream, stayed for the service the elderly couple were so welcoming and the elderly man even played me a song on his harmonica, he didn't know any NZ songs so he just played me an Australian song lol, one of my favorite visits in Japan I might start visiting some more and the ones in your video, next time I visit again... Cool video as always
At the beginning of my Uni years, I found a coffee place about 15 mins from campus and it was this cute French bakery/coffee place and it was the best. I went there several times and would enjoy a cup and study! I’m pinning all of these places in Kyoto and will visit them!
I used to LOVE studying at cafes during my uni days in Kyoto, which is how I fell in love with cafe culture in the first place! That French bakery/coffee store sounds lovely ☺
Thank you for this information, I will be travelling to Kyoto in the end May and stay there for four days , I will definitely to visit the cafes you recommend in this video. I am from Sydney and I am coffee addicted that I need good coffee for my time in Kyoto 😄
My wife and I are spending our honeymoon in Japan starting next week, we're in Kyoto for 7 of our 18 days, we can't wait to dive into some of these spots. Thank you for the recommendations. We're obsessed with love your videos.
Benefits of having a flexible job…dining at down times. I love cafes/restos that have limited hours; means they can control quality of product/experience. My favorite baguette: Saza Coffee Love the various items Japan sells to place on toast.
As an American, I'm shocked at the school bus cafe. I didn't know something so smelly and awful as a school bus would be so loved. Made me wonder how much American inspiration there is in Japan. I hear it's a lot. But I love the spots you showed us! Perfect to have with my own coffee and breakfast this morning. I'm jealous of how thick that toasted bread is. I love good bread so I follow you for those recs. I'm glad you don't try to hide that about yourself. Japanese bread does seem wonderful. I love Columbian coffee, so I wish I knew what that one you tried was. Like the exact profile. Fruity sounds nice. I don't like bitter coffee either. That map at Blue Bottle seems helpful for tourists. Loved the hand drawn and English translations in Sarasa cafe.
The equipment is Hario which is a Japanese company actually. A glass company in 1921. It's the rest-of-the-world switching from trad English cafes or Italian to Japanese-style modern coffee bars. It just needs more Japanese jazz.
A lot of people wouldn’t associate Japan with coffee but they absolutely smash the coffee game here. This video was cute n all but I go hardcore, UCC instant coffee for 400 yen a pop mate. As the instant coffee granular blends in harmony with the boiled water I get the perfect aroma of ‘nice coffee and would rather do literally anything than go to work today.’ Nice video! Subscribed 👍
You should definitely make more Japanese videos. I am still N3 and found your last video super helpful! I learned two grammar points in that vid lol. せっかく and うちに :D
Thank you for showing us all these places. I need coffee to live. The majority of school buses are also the same colour in Canada. Yes I had one of those yummy Blue drinks at a Maid Cafe' ( my Boss in Japan insisted that all the staff go with him)
You should check out MoguMogu cafe, it's a little out the way but it's super cute family run cafe. The owner is Australian, and her husband is from Nagasaki, used to be a pro chef in Aus and his Superhero plate is amazing!!!
Holy...! The HiFi stuff in that Cafe Bibliotic Hello!, is worth a fortune. That's serious High End. Accuphase, McIntosh, Revox. Wow! If I ever going to visit Japan, that's on my list.
Omg thank you for sharing these, this is exactly what I look for when travelling 😍 Nice coffee and a chill spot to sit and people watch. I went to Blue Bottle in Ginza last year, and the coffee is sooo good so I had to keep going back 😂 So, will definitely keep the rest of these in mind for the next trip!!
Interesting, you read in my mind. I'm planning a 1 month trip to Tokyo in October 2024 and I was searching what are the best coffee shops in Japan not later than a few days ago! When I travel, I usually like to identify a few coffee shops that look nice. I can then check if there's any interesting monument/museum/touristic attraction near it. If not, the best coffee shops are usually hidden in areas that are not very touristic so it's still a good way to discover a neighborhood outside of the usual touristic path. I'm also filming some of my trips and I'll have more than enough time in one month to spend a few days discovering new coffee shops, chilling there and editing some of my videos. I'm open to all suggestions in Tokyo and beyond (I'll use the high speed train to do some round way trips in other cities in Japan as long as it is feasible in one day).
Love these kinds of videos! Reminds me of the cafe's I used to goto regularly at uni in Toronto. Haven't found any as unique as that, or these in years.
Those all have nice vibes cafes! I used to live in Kyoto but I didn't know them. I'll try them. Actually, there are heaps of amazing cafes in Kyoto. The more you explore in Kyoto, the more amazing cafes you bump into!
I love this! I’d also love to see a tour of the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Tokyo. The one in Washington was so beautiful. I had cold brew from gin casks and it was such a cool experience! I do agree that the smaller cafes are wonderful too. I worked for Starbucks for a long time and the Roastery locations are more cafe culture than their standalone locations. Thank you for sharing this video ❤
Awesome recs. While in Osaka, visited Kyoto over two days. Enjoyed Astrea, School Bus, Iolite (friendliest owners), and Blue Bottle. BB has a very cool vibe on a Mon morning before lunch.
I LOVE that cafe too! Only been once during autumn leaf season and it was soooo stunning! I wanna see it in the summer when it’s all green too sometime 😻
If you're taking recommendations: The Otherside Cafe in Osaka, it's a "music cafe" on the second floor, with big windows and a loft area, great coffee and tasty sandos served uniquely. They have excellent music on, me and the staff chatted about music for a bit. As an Aussie you might appreciate, he asked me for some good Australian bands and I totally blanked on indie bands, so if you hear "Silverchair" playing when you visit that's my fault :D
I love your cafe hopping hobby. It's better than bar hopping. I did cafe hopping for 5 weeks in Japan. Hitting like 2-4 cafes a day. 90% packed full of women and they will sit there for hours like half a day or whole day...late at night too. How do they have so much luxury?
It’s too bad that every time I visited Kyoto, I would only stay for at most a night, so I didn’t put much schedule in exploring the area. Hopefully I’d go to at least one of the coffee shops the next time I go there.
I’m absolutely loving your videos…thank you for sharing, can’t wait to try Cafe Bibliotic…would love to shout you a coffee when my girls and I visit Tokyo in November 2024? Hugs from Melbourne 🦘❤
Thanks so much ❤ Have saved these to my coffee list for an upcoming trip . You obviously really love a good coffee- the Kyoto atmosphere is stunning! I’m also coffee obsessed- I’m in Adelaide and have tried around 200 cafes here in the last 18 months. Had a hard time finding any good ones in Sydney though - any recommendations?
Fantastic video! I am very surprised that coffee is so popular in Japan!! These coffee bars look really cozy and relaxing which is so different from the pace of life in Japanese cities.
I love the cafes in Japan including the local chain shops. I make it a point to visit a Tully's, Cafe Veloce, Excelsior and Doutur coffee shop every vacation as well as any smaller local shops I find. Maybe you can do a video showing that there is more than Starbucks to coffee lovers.
I've been using oat milk when I eat cereal lately, or mix with chocolat syrup if I crave a chocolate milk. I've been trying to cut down on dairy. But nothing tastes right in my coffee except half & half. I've tried other variants like 2%, whole milk, cream, and also almond, soy and oat, but always came back to half & half, so I'm sticking with it now. I hope I get a chance to visit some cafe's pretty much anywhere in Japan again. It's always been a nice experience no matter which city. What is a flat white? I'm not familiar. It's so nice to see so many vegan options in Japan lately. I'm not vegan myself, but I was vegetarian for a while (now gone back to omnivore). The struggle for even vegetarian options was very real in Japan in the early 2k's. I gave up on vegetarianism while I was there and haven't gone back. I will say that most Japanese food is vegetable rich and very healthy. They just didn't seem to get the concept of removing the meat from their dishes that traditionally include it while I was there. Also, Japanese cuisine in general is probably of the highest quality of anywhere I've been, so when I switched back to consuming meat, it was worth it for me.

Yes here is another coffee/cafe lover, almost addict😅
I don t drink coffee to wake up, I wake up to drink coffee😜😅
This is such a chill video and I’m here for it.
wayy cool. where’s no 1?
Kitaoji Roastery Lab Kyoto Japan, The Best or One of them
As someone from Melbourne I would say BULL-SHIT MR HAN MAN!
Love japanese cafes. Quiet and chill and not a competiton to have the loudest conversation in the place like it can be here
The loudness is painful
When an Aussie girl gives comments on coffee shops, she automatically deserves trust😉 Australia was definitely one of the greatest coffee countries out there. We indulged ourselves with four coffees per day at a minimum when we travelled to Australia earlier this year. Now I'm so ready for our upcoming trip to Kyoto/Osaka next month!
This was very helpful, especially since the two that looked the most appealing to me were less than a 15 minute walk from our ryokan. Thanks!
I stayed in the APA across from Kurasu when I was in Kyoto, some of the best espresso I had in Japan. I met a lovely gentleman there named Kokoro who was a tour guide having a break. A perfect day for me would be chilling at a few cafes whilst spending most of the day slooowly exploring a shotengai.
Thank you for this video. Kyoto is a destination and now I have all these coffee spots to visit as well.
Love this video! do you have it, also, in Tokyo? I´ll visit Japan in a month, this videos help me a lot!
We welcome you in Kyoto where I'm living. This video is so fun even for us living in the city. Next time, you are invited to stop by Cafe Soiree near Shijo-Kiyamachi. Really enjoying your channel , thanks again.
Thank YOU! 😊
Polar Bear Cafe is one of the BEST animes to learn Japanese.
I’m going to Tokyo, Nara and Kyoto this December, and your videos have been helping me expand my itinerary ☺️. I’m plant based, and I thank you for including vegan options! 🌱
Now I just want to do a cafe tour of Japan! These places in Kyoto look delightful!!
These places feel SOOOO cozy! I love how everything is smaller in Japan.
All the cafes look lovely. Bonus for Shirokuma Cafe. One of my fave manga and anime
I'm not a cafe person but there was one in Uji called Uji-Biyori that I'd never forget
Went for the matcha coffee and ice cream, stayed for the service
the elderly couple were so welcoming and the elderly man even played me a song on his harmonica, he didn't know any NZ songs so he just played me an Australian song lol, one of my favorite visits in Japan
I might start visiting some more and the ones in your video, next time I visit again...
Cool video as always

My wife and I are spending our honeymoon in Japan starting next week, we're in Kyoto for 7 of our 18 days, we can't wait to dive into some of these spots. Thank you for the recommendations. We're obsessed with love your videos.
Happy to help! Hope you both have a lovely honeymoon in Japan 💞
2 mins in and I had to pause so I could make a stovetop coffee to accompany my viewing. Comfiest vid on youtube right now. Weekender is my kinda spot.
Awww you met new friends!!! They're so sweet!!❤
They actually took me to check out the hair salon he worked at nearby, after we finished our coffees! (it was a super fancy place 😆)
I find the content is underrated. Usually vlogs like this hits around 100k views.
As much as I love seeing the different Japanese food, a latte and toasted is so familiar - glad it’s available for Aussies.
Benefits of having a flexible job…dining at down times.
I love cafes/restos that have limited hours; means they can control quality of product/experience.
My favorite baguette: Saza Coffee

I think its cute how Japan is obsessed with America and vice versa because there are so many Japanese inspired cafe and tea places popping up!
The equipment is Hario which is a Japanese company actually. A glass company in 1921. It's the rest-of-the-world switching from trad English cafes or Italian to Japanese-style modern coffee bars. It just needs more Japanese jazz.
I love Iolite ! The owners were so nice and friendly and the latte was the best one I had in Kyoto ❤
Crazy Bibliotic has a McIntosh 275 amp! That's some serious audiophile setup
A lot of people wouldn’t associate Japan with coffee but they absolutely smash the coffee game here. This video was cute n all but I go hardcore, UCC instant coffee for 400 yen a pop mate. They smash pretty much anything they really get interested in... Which makes traveling abroad a bit disappointing :-)
I'm curious about the espresso latte matcha... will try it tomorrow
Love your videos, so relaxing to watch. Your commentary is also great. 5/5!
Just went on a study break and was blessed with this video just releasing as I opened youtube!
Time for a little coffee break 💞☕
You should definitely make more Japanese videos. I am still N3 and found your last video super helpful! I learned two grammar points in that vid lol. せっかく and うちに :D
I love these videos of you going around to different places.❤
Sarah your videos are getting better and better. Really loving everything you make. Keeps it up ❤
easy for her when she is beautiful smart with kind personality.
Thank you for showing us all these places. I need coffee to live.
The majority of school buses are also the same colour in Canada.
Yes I had one of those yummy Blue drinks at a Maid Cafe' ( my Boss in Japan insisted that all the staff go with him)
I love how many cafes there are to visit! and so reasonable - I'm on the GC Australia and coffee average is $7 and a croissant is $8 :(
Going to save these for my next trip!
The school bus place with the savory breads looked delicious.
I just visited "The Terminal Kyoto" and it was amazing. The cafe beautiful and serene and I had the best cheesecake in my life there.
You should check out MoguMogu cafe, it's a little out the way but it's super cute family run cafe. The owner is Australian, and her husband is from Nagasaki, used to be a pro chef in Aus and his Superhero plate is amazing!!!
Yet another fantastic video on such an everyday yet integral element of Japan, Sarah. Thank you!
Holy...! The HiFi stuff in that Cafe Bibliotic Hello!, is worth a fortune. That's serious High End. Accuphase, McIntosh, Revox. Wow! If I ever going to visit Japan, that's on my list.

So do you get desensitised to how even the most simplist of snacks look absolutely adorable?
I love your personality and so full of life and energy 🤗
Thank you 😙☀️
Love these kinds of videos! Reminds me of the cafe's I used to goto regularly at uni in Toronto. Haven't found any as unique as that, or these in years.
I lived in Kyoto for 6 years over 10 years ago and at that time it was such a struggle to find a good cafe... Has changed so much now!
また素晴らしい動画です!! ありがとうございました!!! 🫶

FYI - The movie she mentioned in the video is "My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday" (2016), I think. Good flick!
Excellent and informative 👍 well made video. Thanks
I Love when Sarah videos come out!
When I go out to eat I try and get the window too. People watching should be an Olympic sport 😂 and Bread 🥪 lol
Really enjoyed this vlog. I saved these places on Google for the future. Thanks.😊
Really nice latte cafe art! Thank you for Cafe tour! Evening cafe was also really nice!
I'm going to try some of these on my next trip. ❤☕

i will watch this whole vlog ,
cafe hopping a great idea
Ohhh my gosh! That Cheese Tostie with smoooth cofee!..... Lucky girl😅
I visited Vermillion near Fushimi Inari last year after intending to do so for years. Super nice cafe.

15:25 hello, from san francisco!
Dear seerasan, I would love your videos have subtitles in other languages (Spanish), I could share with my mom the magic of your content
Love Kurasu, especially to get japanese brew gear in the States. Their Hojicha powder is so good too.
Yes!! I always buy their hojicha powder 😍 this time I got their matcha powder too!
Great vid. Need to check some of these out the next time i'm out there.
Will check them out when I'm visiting Kyoto for two weeks next month.
I really waiting for this vid. Nice one. Arigatou.
Love this video Seerasan!
Love the Vegan options ✌😎🌱
I will look for those shops when I get there in two weeks... Can't wait! Love your videos!
Enjoy your Kyoto trip 😝
@@seerasan I always do, but now, with your help, I have more things to look for... 😊
英語の勉強も兼ねて、いつも楽しく拝見しています!多分日本人の私よりいいカフェ知ってそう😂
Nice❤️🍀
This looks shot all in one day going off of her awesome looking sweater. I was expecting Sarah to talk and x2 speed towards the end 😂
Thanks so much ❤ Have saved these to my coffee list for an upcoming trip . You obviously really love a good coffee- the Kyoto atmosphere is stunning! Fantastic video! I am very surprised that coffee is so popular in Japan!! These coffee bars look really cozy and relaxing which is so different from the pace of life in Japanese cities.
you were TOTALLY in to the guy with the hat :D
I love the cafes in Japan including the local chain shops. I make it a point to visit a Tully's, Cafe Veloce, Excelsior and Doutur coffee shop every vacation as well as any smaller local shops I find. Maybe you can do a video showing that there is more than Starbucks to coffee lovers.
This video is so beautifully made ✨. Do you mind sharing what camera / editing program you used?
Sony ZVE1 with Final Cut Pro! ✌️
@@seerasan thank you ✨
I love that the theme of so many places is American but the coffee culture is definitely Australian (thank goodness!)
I was actually in one of these cafes and saw you.... What are the chances!!!!
Have you ever been on a coffe brewing workshop? Like how to pull an excellent espresso shot, or a really nerdy one with drip coffee?
グDay mate! I'm Kyoto boy, lives in Sydney. 京都のCafeめっちゃ詳しいやん!すげェ!いつもVideo楽しんでます!
Great video. Sorry I could not help myself at @10:28 when you asked "Tomato bread... curious what's inside?" I'm thinking.... "um... tomato?" It's the Aussie banter coming out... and I could not miss the opportunity. 😁
You speak really fluent Japanese!
Sounds perfect 😊
Wish I had friends like you where I live. We are definitely cut from the same cloth!! Love the video, love the energy :)
Blue Bottle Rokkaku is really nice one, but be caution when you visit them during winter time, their AC is hot af lol Keep that in mind.
Melon soda is pretty addictive
