As a fan of Ektar100, I would love to see a video about why you hate it. Actually I think my favorite part of this channel is when you low-key hate on things.
2006-the last year of 100T- the same year I pushed all the Canon - F1n, Ftb, 24, 35, 50, 85, 70-210 across the table at Adorama and got a 6mp Canon 10d and 17-40L back (I probably had to pay also). But then I went out and photographed at night, similarly, and loved the freedom of being able to change ISO whenever I wanted and not always having the wrong film in the camera. And not having to fight cheap-ass scanners. 10 years after that I got a Flextight X1, and for brief moment nirvana- but then the workload of shooting film, scanning and the fact that no jobs would wait that long meant that it became a 7k desk sculpture. So now that is gone too, but damn if I didn't just buy a few rolls of 400portra for an old minolta X700 and Canon EOS 1n. Appreciate the channel.
Here's a trick to avoid tripod movement when using a lightweight camera: tie your backpack to the tripod column. This is part of the secret. Also, use the longest cable release you can and if possible lock the mirror up.
The feeling you get when every photography video you watch has squarespace ads and when you go to sign up you don't use any of their codes because you're sick of hearing them talk about it. Yeah that's right I'm being that guy rn and you love it
The real reason for 3200K Tungsten films is for portrait use with hot lights. I expect it was discontinued because almost no one was still using tungsten in portrait studios.
@@pilsplease7561 Cheers, very helpful comment there. I do love me some unsubstantiated claims on the internet that don't add any value to a conversation
Great video! Glad to see some great examples of Portra 100T. One thing to note about exposure times, if you look at the data sheet for this film + other low ISO tungsten films (Kodak Portra 100T, Fuji 64T, Kodak Ektachrome 64T etc) they are designed to be shot at slower shutter speeds. This film in particular says it was designed for exposures between 1/1000 and 120 seconds in tungsten light, thus you didn't really need to account for reciprocity. That's what I love about these films, great for long exposure night shots. Obviously since it's expired though there's still some roll of the dice to get a proper exposure.
Oh wow I recognize a lot of the spots you shot at in Burbank, really interesting to see where you were able to find compositions worth shooting in places I’ve walked by hundreds of times. The Borrmann Steel shot especially got me.
@9:26 - You did Projection Mapping with that film shot? Holy cow...You somehow nailed the far back plane with the office. Lots of stamp tooling, I guess... insane!
Yo Jason, I got my first 35mm camera a month ago and I just got my first roll developed and scanned the other day. Shoutout to your addicting content for getting me into another expensive hobby. I've lost so much time and money thanks to you, and for that I say thank you.
@@someonewithsomename my parents think that having a fruit drawer in the fridge is more important than having a film drawer. I tried to explain how ridiculous they sound but they just wouldn't get it. I'll have to buy a mini fridge for my film I guess. Idk where ill get that money tho 😕

@@peskymacaw9033 nope. Shooting film is bad for the environment. Period. Buying a lot of film at once is usually good for your wallet. Shooting a lot is good for your photography. So I really don't see your point.

Love the channel. Quotes like, "Like how my nipples are hard after I watch the notebook", and, "Don't bump the tripod Baxter, or you'll be going back to the pound", are the reason I keep watching.
So calculation was 10^1.3 ?Is the Power of 1.3 a solid number for color film? It's insane. a 69sec exposure becomes 4 minutes? Hot damn! Sounds to me like a blown out image.... This is the calculation also for fresh color film? ^1.3?
Dang, can't believe some of the shots you got with an AE-1 and expired film. Well done dude. Also saw that you were wearing Adidas Sambas...into soccer back in the day?
fascinating film stock, and photos! I recently picked up a 135mm Lens, the Makinon f2.8 M42 Macro, and am looking forward to testing it out. You should definitely try some Ultramax 400 at night - I've had great results with it, and it's damn cheap
Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time! Around 10 years ago when I was just beginning I randomly got one roll of this stuff and without knowing much I wasted it on whatever without making any use of its tungsten nature. Good times.
High saturation and high iso... Sounds like the unfortunatelly discontinued Fujifilm Pro 800Z? I remember a chart on Fuji Pro pack a couple of years ago, comparing their 4 different types of professional colour film.
Also you’ve got to shoot Portra 800 man! It’s got the nice Portra colors but a bit more earthy and considerably less grain than CineStill 800T. 800T has my favorite colors out of any film. But Portra 800’s colors are really nice and the film actually meats 800 ASA. While 800T sits still squarely 500 ASA. Portra 800 has actually enough latitude that you can shoot it at 1600 without pushing it and still get nice results.
Given how lights flare with long exposures I think some of the shots could have looked better without the Promist filter. Also, Ektar is pretty great for long exposures especially with the type of shots you took.
