Excellent beginner video, Sony should commission you for these. The other Pros often go through setup videos so fast that it is hard to follow them, a waist of time. Your timing though is right on point. Well done, godspeed for your channel growth.
I'm in minute 4 of the video and I'm already impressed with the clarity of how you explain things! thank you so much and you can already count with my 90 minutes view contribution! hahaha
Thank you so much Jason. I just upgraded all my camera and workflow from Canon to Sony and was super intimidated by my new FX30. This video was so helpful taking it step by step through the cameras functions and modes. All makes much more sense now and I look forward to getting out there and filming.
Good Job Jason a year ago . Just sold my FX6 today was a real complicated one and waste of money so I decided to go to the cheaper and hope it will be more simple to use . Will watch you video a few times till it works for me even my fx3 that I’ve bought Six times and never worked for me so I’ve decided to buy the fx30 with the handle . Glad it was helpful and yeah its really hard to keep track of all the different settings. I have some notes I refer to from time to time, because I can't remember everything from all these different cameras... lol
Damnit! If I'd found this tutorial when I first bought the camera, I wouldn't have spent the last year tearing my hair out. Awesome! Keep up the great work.
I cant afford an fx 30. However, i love cameras, so watching a master class on one of the top end cameras has been a joy. Thank you for your experience and expertise in this area.❤❤❤ 😊😊😊

Thanks to this video I have found new wheel for iris :) I haven't noticed that before. Abilty to change shutter.iso, aperture without using menu is sooooo good to have.
This is the most thorough tutorial of FX30 in YT. I only have the Sony - AX43A 4K Handycam with Exmore R CMOS sensor camcorder. But what is “Log shooting?” What’s it for?? Now, I have to buy this camera 😂.

If you have a PD Power Source that will power the camera with the battery inside for a long while, but in my opinion what I would recommend for a studio environment is a Dummy Battery solution like this: geni.us/KfnlFY
This FX30 is optimized for video and has a built in cooling fan for longer form recording in warm environments. It can take photos, but I would not recommend this camera for photography. The A6400 geni.us/L75omA is a great option, or the A7 IV geni.us/ZlYsk is what I have and is full frame... The A7C geni.us/N6UyGd would be a more affordable option similar to the A6400, but a full frame version...
Thanks for this usefull Guide, really well explained. I have a question though, I see your frame rate goes from 24p to 120p and you also have 30 and 60... on mine, I only have 25, 50 and 100p, do you have a specific setting ?

Hi Jason, I'm looking for the optimal settings on the Sony FX30 to eliminate motion blur when shooting moving cars on the street. Currently, setting the shutter speed to auto seems to be the only way to achieve some clarity and smoothness. However, the general rule is to set the shutter speed to double the fps. When I shoot with auto shutter speed, it often goes to 1/800 or 1/1000, which doesn't align with the rule, and there are still clarity issues with moving cars.
This issue also persists when I'm stationary in a chair, moving the camera in a circular motion. Even large letters on a cereal box appear blurred. I've tried adjusting the shooting mode to Flexible Exposure Mode and even manual mode. I've set the focus to Continuous AF and also experimented with manual focus. Additionally, I've tested different auto focus transition speeds, such as 5, and AF shift sensitivity settings, ranging from 5 to 1. I've also played with focus area settings, trying both wide and spot focus.
Despite these efforts, I haven't eliminated motion blur or the slight shaking of objects. It's as if the letters aren't entirely clear when I'm shooting. Can you please advise me on the settings I need to adjust to resolve this issue with the Sony FX30 camera? Thanks in advance
To illuminate motion blur you will need to increase the shutter speed. I don't see any way around that fact. I agree about the rule, but that also depends on what you are doing. Filming high speed moving subjects is much harder than slow or non moving subjects as we know...

Hey @Jason, love your work, you are my go to, for every new camera.
I have the fx30, and I was wondering why my camera shows Frame Rate with: 59.94p / 29.97p / 23.98p / 119.88p instead of 60 /30 / 24 and 120 ?
That is normal and yes a bit odd I agree... You can look into frame rates for a few hours if you really want to know all the weirdness that goes into it... I honestly do not recall off the top of my head why, but I have looked it up in the past out of curiosity and at the ned of the day it has no noticeable effect on anything I do...
Hey Mate! These must be incredibly intensive to shoot and edit, but curious if you're planning an A7RV beginners guide?

Is this camera good instead of the A6600? I never use burst or action photography. I also saw that this camera is good for photography....
