People don't use logic and common sense to get them to look right. I made sure to do research on different techniques before I attempted crochet braids and then kept adjusting my approach (trial and error) until I got the look I desired. You will NOT see me looking crazy with a 3 inch part in the middle of my head. No sir.
I don't see anything offensive about his video. He stated what he doesn't like about chrochet braids. I agree with it and will consider what he said when doing mine. What is offensive is all those rude comments made to him. When you read the title or heard the beggining, you should have checked out. Not watch the whole thing and get offended.
Rockzy311 OMG THANK YOU!!!!!!! I can respect the fact that I don't share an opinion with someone but it's no reason to get upset or hurl insults because someone doesn't share your opinion. Just because someone doesn't agree doesn't make them a hater. I have complemented many people that I have seen rock nice crochet styles but lets not act like we ain't seen folks wit some raggedy crochet braids. IJS
We just gonna act like we don't see that huge ugly part 😂😂😂😂 I agree. I'm tired of seeing the perm rod. I hate when you can still see the braids. And the women in Cali don't curl them at all. With five packs of hair
Why did you talk about "the gap"? LOL.I mean it's one of those things you see and you pretend not to. Some of these people's parts look like the Grand Canyon. Good rant.
Love crochet braids! Best thing ever for me. I use a curly hair that is close to my curl pattern. Don't have to curl or re curl. I don't cornrow tight and have had no issues with my edges. Like with sew in, if you do not install properly and don't take care of your own hair you will have damage. For two hours and just $24 I have a six week protective style that I didn't have to pay someone hundreds to do. I get compliments all the time and requests for install. With the right braid pattern I don't even have a wide part! I will never do a sew in but everything is not for everybody.
I used to hate crochet braids on other people. I thought the wide parting looked so fake & too much hair was being used looking too heavy, but after I tried them and modified the technique I LOVE THEM ADDICTED! You should see my straight hair tutorial!!!! it came out BOMB & very Natural looking!!!!- love you though (-: -Habiba
I hope you enjoy your crochet braids, they are great if done well! I find it is not as tight as getting a weave and more flexible. Make sure some one helps you take out the hair later so you don't cut off your own hair. God bless. Please subscribe to my hair channel: Hair by Habiba
I thought I was the only one who disliked them. I feel like UA-cam has made it seem so easy that people are walking around looking crazy. I'd say about 9/10 times on my campus, the hair doesnt look good and it rarely looks natural. Between the parts and the visible beginning of the braids I can't deal! Like you said, some look natural and very nice but it's usually not. I will GLADLY pass on this trend.
The some people you suscribe to and like there video do chrochet braids anf they look like it's there own hair anf the hair ste can do in a crochet style its only bad if people dont take care of it and make it look old so ya lol.
Lol i agree with u on the making it look easy part. Im like this looks like the most difficult hairstyle 2 do ever! That has put me off alone. I have seen good and bad examples but thats the same with every hairstyle i guess. I too am not a fan of the visible braiding with these but sone ppl either like em like that, dont care or its been done badly but generally this method isnt for me. Looks painful too :/
I can agree and relate on the "2 hour installment " i have done them on others and myself and the devil is a lie lol! I do not wear them anymore due to the pulling on my edges, just didnt make me feel my hair was being "protected". Thanks for speaking the truth on this hair style, it works for some and to each their own!
I leave my edges out, do singles around perimeter, so that nasty part ISN'T in my hair, I hate that look so much! And you can't put that ish up at all! You just can't, too bulky, and just no boo no. And I agree with you, 2 hours, that is a bold faced LIE! Why you do that? Why you lie so dang much?? That ish never took you less than 2 hours, don't lie boo dun lie ta us, that ish took at least 5 hours for every dang thing! You make a GREAT point! Weave and crochet braid... THEY THE SAME!! You braid yo hair too dang tight, put them up in there, too much weight, and ya'll leave em in for too damn long... just like a weave, just the more "natural kinky" weave, that is all. Also the more "at home weave for even the most beginner of people". Loved this, and yup this is all TRUTH! Never stop speaking, when people are ready to listen, they will actually hear what you are saying, and not just want that want to hear.
***** they did it wrong it shouldn't cause damage I kove crochet braids and wigs so ha ha to you go learn this style ok go do a video of going to an african hair braidibg salon or a salon that does this style and you will change your opinion
yoooooo I laughed so hard. I love crochet! leave us alone. hahahahahahahaha but this video is too funny. I'm not mad. everyone is entitled to their opinion. I mean, this video is too funny. like, you're serious but it's funny. newly subscribed! p.s. can you PLEACE make a video about lace fronts/lace closures!!!???!!!! please. I know you see the Foolery. you can ALWAYS see the line of demarcation. I don't care how much concealer/foundation you use. lol maybe it's just me who thinks that way. haha lol
+beauty4kicks Yes!!! I would love to hear his opinion on the lace fronts/lace closures. The hairline looking like a helmet and the concealer on the parts should make for a hilarious video.
I know I'm late but have you checked out BeautyCanBraid's channel? She does awesome crochet work. I'm not trying to change your opinion; I just think her's come out VERY nice. How and ever.....I have seen some awful, cheap looking crochet braids. Hilarious video! You kept it all the way real.
I have to agree with your entire video!! All the middle school girls are wearing the crochet twists and it's way too much bulk for their small heads and faces. Then some are way too long. I guess with me, the more NATURAL my wig, kanekalon bun or whatever style I choose to wear, aside from my OWN hair, needs to look as closely to my own hair as possible!!
Lol but crochet braids don't have to be curly you can do it any way you like. My crochet braids are straight and they are amazing. I don't think people should lie about the time that's true and I say so. It takes me 5 hours from 0-100 start -finish. Less time than me actually braiding or putting in my weave. But mine lasts for 2 months I wash it and it's really is easy. 2 my parts are not bulky at all. I think it's your opinion and your entitled to it lol l. I agree with some if your comments lol but not all ...mine definitely does not look like that. You can go see for yourself. Also crochet braids are just much more of a protective style and easy to install and take out than a weave.....in my opinion
Lol. I promise you, you would change your mind if you can see the options available for crochet braids now. It's amazing. The most natural I've seen. I've been doing it for almost 3 years and people can never tell if it's not mine. :)
Yea, I agree. And as for how long it takes, it's usually about 4 hours for me which is still much better than sitting in a chair all day long to get my hair braided. Plus I was never a fan of weaves because I didnt like the fact that I couldnt get to my scalp to treat it while it was "weaved" up. So crochet braids it is for me!
Kimb MargOo Lol. If you're on Instagram follow @hairbeenatural. ***** She's amazing !! She doesn't, however, show her technique. But just so you can see other options. :)
Personable, easy to listen to, comprehensible, a natural speaker, non irritating, actually entertaining, knowledgable about his craft, and brutally honest. The best UA-camr I have seen thus far on the subject. Well Done sir.
I love my crochet braids, I don't care about the knots showing, I'm not trying to make it look like it's my natural hair. Just like when people get braids and leave some of the hair loose. I always tell people in my videos that it took me hours or in some cases days to do my hair, and I've wondered what I was doing wrong when I saw people say it took them 2 hours. lol
WE STILL CALLED THEM CROCHET THEN ALSO. THEY'RE CALLED CROCHET BECAUSE OF THE LOOPING ITS A CROCHET STITCH SINGLE STITCH WE USE A LATCH HOOK FOR EASE & CONVEINCE. I KNOW BECAUSE I DID MY SHARE OF THEM ON '90's & THE CROCHET HOOKS WERE MURDER LOL. I MISS THOSE STYLES
I don't get the video. Lol! It took me 1 1/2 hour to do mine and they came out great and it was my first time doing them. Everywhere I go people ask me who did my hair and how much they charge. When I say I did and I don't do hair they think I'm lying. So it does take 1 to 2 hours. Well for me it did. :)
Lol! Literally laughing out loud as I'm sitting getting my crochet done! This is funny. It took me forever to find someone to do then that didn't have that big ass part! Keep up the good work!
I AM SOO HAPPY YOU MADE THIS VIDEO!! now I am going to just guess here but I remember in the 90's there were girls that went to my school that wore crochet braids. They had cornrows and the hair that was crocheted were these pre braided braids...so I think thats why the name just stuck becauase the style is based in that. I have been wearing Crochet braids with uncurled marley/puff hair off and on for about 4 years and I remember when i didnt see this style anywhere.. only a few of my friends and I would do it. I have been pissed when I see videos and people are saying that the COMPLETE style has taken them 2 hours. For me on a rush job I can do the cornrows, sew the cornrows up, install, and cut and style in 3 hours. When Im taking my time about 4 1/2 Im also sick of seeing the huge parts. I normally do 8-10 braids and whereever I want my part, i braid them very close together, and because my hair is kinky it looks like its coming from y roots. I also end up cutting A LOT of the hair out...So many womebn are walking around wht 5 and 6 packs of hair in their heads...I use no more than 2 1/2 packs. The hood girls done takin another trend and made it ratch. people forget when you're looking at a tutorial..that person is doing the style in a way that works for them...so you have to take the style and do it in the best way that works for you..also I have never attempted a ponytail.hahahhaa that shit looks ugly the most ive done is put a scarf around the front. Great video!!
I agree, we wore "crochet braids " in the late 90s and there was definitely no "Marley" hair in existence. We had the "pre-braided" hair "crocheted" into our own hair, that was in cornrows, with a latch hook. Great video!
micarae right! I think even brandy did this...when i look back at certain pics of her I think they did it with just wayyy smaller cornrows to give her micros...i never even saw marley or puffy hair sold in regular stores until right before highschool which for me was 2005....I remember girls would have the curly micro braids..the tiny straight braids with blunt ends lol.
EclecticFlavor. Yes, you are right! Brandy did it. I remember noticing the difference in her individuals vs the crochet. Folks started getting them because they took less time to do and were not as stressful on the scalp as micro braids. #Deathtomicros lol
Lmfao this had me cracking up, I love my crochet braids and they sure do take forever, and I've mastered my part. Lmfao I cracked up again at the bulky part.
you do have a lot of valid points the key is to have the braids very close together, and to implement the invisible technique when looping the hair in the part areas and around the hair line also using smaller braids and smaller portions of the bulk hair, and starting the latch hook method very close to the edges of hair line will give you a flawless and no very versatile hair weave and yes it takes at the very least 3 hrs. P.S when doing this method I only purchase- CURLED or PRE-BRAIDED bulk hair cause I have no time or patients for rods and boiling water, not to mention the "LIABILITY" if it spills accidentally!😉
I def agree about the technicalities. However, crochet real takes 1-3 hours it isn't that long. I just got mine done and it took 2.5 because I had to get another pack of hair. Likewise a lot of these UA-camrs videos are hilariously misleading 😒
lol, this was very funny and informative at the same time. I love when people can have a healthy debate and give their own opinion on a topic. You just got a new subbie. Please keep up the good work!
So many really good, valid points, comparisons and observations. Thanks for that...taking good notes. hair line, part, proportions, leave-out, no deep parts, no bulk, don't think your better than a girl with a weave, don't be mislead on installation time, try different curling rods with the marley hair.... got it!!!! :) I shall 'up my game'.
This had me rolling! I tried crochet braids ONE TIME and was adding too much hair and looked like the lion queen when I was only half done so I took that mess out. Not to mention how much time it took just to braid the hair. You speak the truth my friend. Speak it!!
Just did my first "crochet braid" install about four days ago. After I watched this video, I was afraid of how it would turn out based on your opinions. I am glad I didn't let this influence me 😂. I absolutely LOVE the way it looks. I left my natural hair out around the perimeter and the side (for a side part). I am not a professional by any means but it took me about 2 1/2 - 3 hours and it was my first time ever braiding my own hair. I used the freetress deep twist. I am very surprised it came out as nice as it did and I am thrilled. I do agree that it can look VERY unnatural on some people but I feel like the tutorials are partially to blame for that LOL. They are [almost] all the same. I am tempted to start making videos of my own (most likely will). I feel like some of the things I've learned in the last few days alone were never been mentioned in the videos I watched before installing my crochet/latch hook style so I'm sure sharing my tips would be beneficial.
FLASHBACK to um...1998? 1999? The hair was pre-braided and a crochet hook was used to achieve the style (even though the technique is actually latch hook). Now it has evolved into using un-braided hair, but the name "crochet braids" is an old term that stuck. For some reason, "latch hook" braids sound like a Girl Scout project for a patch ghettofied. Sometimes they look really good, and sometimes it looks horrific. But to each his own.
I have been rocking crochet braids for over a year.. and the ONLY person at work that knew it was not my hair was my former hairdresser (once she walked up on me and checked me out-closely). He is so telling the truth! I have very thin cornrow braids from my hair line to approx. 4" back -no less- than 18 braids; then the entire back of my head is braided in a 'swirl pattern'. This takes 2 hours for my sister to braid... and she is fast! For the crochet (latch-hook) part takes another 4-5 hours. The hair must be divided 'thinly'-the thinner the more natural looking and It controls the 'bulkiness'. This cannot be rushed ladies or you will look "fake". Once done I have to curl it with BIG ROLLERS to achieve the bump-and upon completion my hair style resembles "Angela's" (the character from the Tyler Perry Movie-"Why did I get married?") This is an all day thing...with taking breaks. This time does not account the 'take-down', washing & conditioning. Take your time!
I get the actual braids. My mom does mine in like 2-3 hours. The middle part depends on your braid pattern underneath. I love crochet braids cause my hair has grown a lot in 4-6 (I did take them down and wash my hair in that time period) but I love them and I get tons of compliments on it. And from a distance it looks like my real hair
OMG. You just listed every reason why I am terrified of getting a crochet. lol. But I want one but rarely see them look better that what you have mentioned! LOL!
idk...I love my crochet braids. currently I'm wearing my second install. I follow a lot of expert stylist who are the best in the crochet game. Like with anything it's a lifestyle. I don't do my own hair but finding the right stylist is key. Most importantly I have my own esthetic and it is flawless! I'm asked all the time if it's my hair. This technique is a great protective style and your only limited by your imagination, just do your research on the hair and choose the right stylist. No shade. But if I knew my stylist hated doing a style I loved. I'd find some one who was just as passionate about the style as I am. Again...no shade.
Can you also do a video on these people online that do hair straightening videos and make it look SOOO easy and quick but they are clearly doing it on a persons hair that has less than the slightest curl to it? ughh those annoy me...like the example is never a girl with type 4b-c hair..lol
EclecticFlavor. You know why, cause no one wants to admit that some hair types just silk out better with heat than others. If a persons hair isn't silky/shiny, full of "white girl flow" and down to their hips, then nobody really cares. And that is just the truth.
***** Thank you for being real....people are always soo fake with these vids...im like...dont think i'ont see through the bull..lol and that is also the reason why most of these "natural hair vloggers" are popular...some of these curly girls BEEEENNNNN curly before the boom they just realized they could make a coin by pretending products helped their hair maintain a certain curl pattern..lol people only care about natural 4type hair if its ridiculously long. Thank you I live for your answer!
Yes, you said a mouth full... people kill me trying to make it seem like no matter what the texture everyone will get this silky amazing blow out with 1 pass through . .. I know my hair and I'm not falling for they hype
Its not free its all.different kinds of synthetic hair textures for braiding that can be crocheted into to braids it look simliar to tree braids or micro braids. Better way and less tension your hair than weaving
I’ve been watching you for years, and I had to come back to this legendary video lol. They really came for you over this. I’d love for you to react to your old videos!
FINALLY!!!!!!!!! From start to finish, somebody telling the TRUTH!!! Very seldom, do I see an acceptable crochet. N where I live, it's just TRAGIC!!😂😂😂
Lol I enjoyed this and understand your point of view. My hair is relaxed but I was considering this crochet braid style, leaving it straight like a weave because i saw someone on youtube do it. After listening to your comments though I'm thinking twice. Really, why not just get a sew in then?
OMG im just now realizing your located in ATL!! I'm ganna big chop soon and want a cute natural slick down style for prom. Definitely come to you Hair God!
It clearly says "I" in the title, meaning "the person who made the video" personal opinion..meaning you did not have to watch nor comment. (im just saying) but I totally agree with you. personally dislike crotchet braids of all styles.
you had me cracking UP watching this video! Specially when you emphasized on "THAT BIG O'L PART" in the middle! Man, I truly feel you! Thanks for keeping it real, because you said everything Ive always thought abt the braids! Most of the time, it is NOT a natural look, and yes...it looks very awkward with rows and wide gaps going dwn your head.
lol you are sooo funny and you have alot of points... but i think you hat crochet braids because you see them done the wrong way too often.. but for the record you can make crochet braids look like a sewin if you have leave out
THANK YOU!!! I was doing it in '97. And now it's like people think its new. It has its pros and cons. I never like the hairline. But it doesn't feel as heavy as a weave. Its just as limited as a weave. Now the only time I can say I like it is if I do a prebraided style and do my perimeter with regular braids. Cuz I don't have a week to do micros.
LOL, omg, I thought I was the only one who realized that shit takes forever. You're right, it's way too big and bulky and the whole knotty thing in the front,,,,,I can't. This video was freaking hilarious and your weren't even lying LMAO!!!!!!!
it takes a long time yes. but there r ways to do it no leave out and it actually looks good. also you are correct about the part VERY difficult to make look natural but I find that using very curly styles parts sent necessary. I wish I were brave enough to make a tutorial on a natural crochet braid hairline cause I know how to do it.
I am really like dying of laughter cause you sound like me explaining why I don't care for crochet braids. But on my defense I actually gave crochet braids a try twice with 2 different types of hair and Hated both times. like I don't find it cute give me a good sew in with a closure and if I want braids I'll sit and get them done. LMAO
I remember those braids! My cousin would get them in the summer when we were little. Thats what I immediately think of when I hear the term 'Crocht Braids'
Just earned a new subscriber ! This video had me cracking up. I always wondered the same thing!... Like are we supposed to pretend like we don't see that huge part
LOL hilarious to me. I dont agree with everything he say but some of the things he say is kind of true. but he is very funny in some of his descriptions. Remember everyone, WE ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOICE OUR OPINION. Remember he may not know y'all personally so DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONAL. #FREEDOMOFSPEECH. #THICKSKIN .... KEEP DOING YOU AFRIKANHAIRGOD
Okay, no, this is just petty. Crochets braid can look bad...yeah, and so can sew-ins, braids, and any other type of hairstyle...I mean you're a hairstylist...the twist out/braidout can look bad...people come to you to teach them and inform them how to make it look good not knock them down something because "it can look bad". And true, It doesn't take two hours to do BUT the POINT IS that it doesn't take 50 PLUS HOURS like other hairstyles and can last for weeks at a time. And don't throw black people under the bus without knowing your history first. We weren't "late" to anything...we were heavily and STILL are heavily discriminated against for our natural hair. Because of this we had and some of still do have to assimilate and straighten our hair. That's why this movement was started.. that's why we call our hair "natural" when others don't...(what are you Raven Symone little brother?) smdh
peopleaintshit duh If I don't favor this particular hairstyle, chances are, there isn't much that I can offer to make it look better. If I wouldn't wear this hairstyle why would I get on here and offer advice for it. That doesn't make sense. Also, I hate to say it but in my opinion this natural hair movement is nothing but a trend, just like it was in the 70s. I could be wrong, but from what I have seen, this movement lacks one essential aspect: people accepting and embracing their natural hair for what it is AND ISN'T. More and more I see naturals more concerned with having "bomb definition", going above and beyond the universe to avoid shrinkage, minimizing frizz (even though afro hair is, by definition, frizzy hair), enhancing curl patterns, hiding their hair in a "protective style" 365 days a year, buying every new natural hair product that comes out, reaching length goals to prove that they are another black woman that can break the short hair stereotype.... EVERYTHING, except loving and embracing their natural hair the way it is. How many people with natural hair do you see everyday walking down the street with an afro (as a style, not cuz the rain got to their twistout)? When you really examine this movement, it carries a lot of characteristics of a trend or compilation of trends. My point is that everyone seems to be more investing in making their hair something that it is not or doing everything possible to coax their hair to act, look, or behave like someone else's hair. That's why there is texture discrimination within our community, that's why, many are having trouble accepting our hair for what it is, that is why you are lashing out at me for not being a part of this crochet braid trend, and that's why this natural hair movement is just something that is "trending".
***** Aaah...so THIS is the real reason you hate crotchet braids. Way better than what you were talking about in your video. I run a natural hair 4c blog and people HATE it when I talk about the max hydration method because of this same reason. But what ya'll are spewing is hate and a very narrow minded view point on black hair. Let me say that for ONE. I don't believe in texture discrimination. People are crocheting kinky hair..not silky Brazilian hair. Second "frizzy" hair by definition is also dehydrated hair. "We're not doing what our hair is naturally intended to do" but tell me what is our hair naturally intended to do? Be dehydrated? Our hair was made to adapt to it's environment. African hair is the way it is because of the environment it adapted to which was sub-Saharan africa...a very hot place with low humidity. Our hair stayed short and dry in an attempt to adapt to it's environment but change it's environment and it adapts to that as well that is why black babies have silky soft hair when they are borned...because of the moisture environment it was borned in. And also why you see hair evolve and change out of africa and in place with humidity. I mean the natural hair movement isn't even 20 years old yet. But ya'll already want to hate. We're still learning about our hair. We don't know all there is about black hair...we barely know anything substantiated by facts and not google searches, hearsay or forum gossip...so you CANNOT tell me or ANYONE ELSE for that matter what black hair is "naturally intended to do". I mean what studies have you done on black hair to say black hair is this and black hair is that? NONE ZERO ZILCH.
peopleaintshit duh Frizzy hair can be dry or moisturized. When your hair experiences humidity, doesn't it frizz? I said nothing in regards to what our hair is naturally intended to do. I have done my research on hair and hair care I assure you. If you are familiar with my channel you will know that I have broken down hair into the amino acids that are the building blocks of hair: hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and sulfur. I may not know everything there is about hair. I am learn just like everyone else but I base my approach to hair care on facts not subjective experiences and opinions.
***** I don't doubt that your hair care regimen is based on facts but I think it's hard to form a complete idea of black hair care when you don't have all the facts. Not just you but I think everyone. Also you didn't say "naturally intended to do" I paraphrased but you did say "everyone seems to be more investing in making their hair something that it is not or doing everything possible to coax their hair to act, look, or behave like someone else's hair." and "from what I have seen, this movement lacks one essential aspect: people accepting and embracing their natural hair for what it is AND ISN'T." The reason that hair frizzes when it comes in contacts with humidity is because your hair maybe too dry when it meets humid air. Hair is composed primarily of lipids, water and a protein called keratin, important for hair strength and structure, Alterations in these components affect the quality of hair. People with dry hair are the ones who mainly experience the frizz in humid weather. When it’s humid outside, dry or porous hair soaks up the excess water in the air, which alters interactions between keratin proteins. The outcome is swelling of the hair and breaks in its outer layer, called the cuticle, resulting in the appearance of frizz. This is of course *somewhat new information but none the less individuals attempting to "tame their frizzes are not "coaxing their hair to act, look, or behave like someone else's hair". If that's the case then individual who oil their scalp/hair are attempting to do the same thing.
***** that's funny cause I had just washed my hair and I had to make a beauty supply run before I detangled, so I had a full afro. When I say everybody stared! Young , middle age, I became a little self conscious, not gonna lie, but what could they say, it's my real hair. Here in Memphis where the population is mostly black, in the beginning I saw everybody for the most part wearing natural hair. But now that crochet braids are out, you dont see the natural hair being worn out as much anymore, which makes us right back to covering our hair, which means this indeed will probably be another fad. I feel it because it's already starting to play out here. I dont know if they are still natural under that weave but I see less women already wearing just not messed with natural hair. But on the contrary I'm not against crochet braids. As long as we dont use it as an excuse not to show our real hair. Taking a break is cool, cause I'm in school and my daughter is natural so sometimes protective styles cut time. But if you're doing a protective style cause you're ashamed of your hair till it grows out, then no I dont think that's cool. But to each their own. Not going to lie I just took my crochets out last night but there is nothing like the lightness and feel of your own hair.
This is a style that was popular in the 90s and back then it was called "latch hooks". The only thing new about this style is an update in the type of hair used. Even back in the 90s I had latch hook twists. Pretwisted and all. Purchased from the beauty supply. You braided hair in a circular pattern and didn't see any cornrows underneath at all.
Yes aqua lily that's what we called them back in the day "latch hooks" my mom kept them in my hair as a kid I'm 32 now so yea I still call them latch hooks..lol
Hiiii!! How are you!! First, you have great points. I wore LATCH HOOK braids from 98 until hmmm 2008 then I was just a WEAVY WONDER! It is not CROCHET because IT'S NOT A RUG OR BLANKET!!😆😆😆 Next, you're right again. It took my hair stylist 5 hours. And she's a REAL STYLIST LIKE YOURSELF. You're right again about the "Red Sea" part. That is the work of amateurs!! The videos with no parts are done by stylists. Your point about natural hair though. I get what you mean. But we are the only group who gets severely penalized for wearing THE HAIR THAT GROWS OUT OF OUR HEAD!! Check any policy of a school or corporate office. It's deep So it's a movement to stop subtle racist ways of controlling Black folks. Next, the big hair!! It's diva hair baby!! I'm going to a Diana Ross concert! I'm rocking the big hair tonight!! In a month, I'm going back to my regular short straight weave style. Finally, you do have to maintenance LATCH HOOK hair! Every night or after one week you have a serious tangled mess! Loved the video!! It cracked me up!! Hope I didn't offend!! Thanks and take care!
I guess some people are salty on here because your saying straight truth. I was looking into chrochet braids for convenience of being able to do it myself because i cant do a sew in...but i always got turned off by that wide gap part and the hairline thing you mentioned.
I hate big bulky hair too, I tried the crochet style and took it out the same night. I couldn't make the part work, and yes every video I watched said it would take two hours, it took 5 hours for me.
LMBO yoooooo this video is hilarious, when I do my daughters hair it only takes me about 21/2 hours from start to finish and I'm new to crochet. You have to make it look natural though I agree. Back in the day they were called interlocks (I dont know if you remember) and I hated them back then, but I guess with a unique braid pattern they can look good! Anyways, good video lol!!!!!
I like the crochet braids cuz to me they're like the next big thing to weaves n I rarely wear weaves... I don't wear reg braids n twists as much cuz of my edges, so I prefer cornrows as opposed to a single braid pulling on my edges, but that's jus me, I love them tho 😍
You are funny but you made a lot of good points. When I did my own crochet braids, it took 4-6 hours because I had to wash/ conditioned my hair and braid it. Then after installing the hair, I had to cut it to shape my face because it was so bulky. I realized when you do the part, your braid had to blend in....I found out the hard way😬.Thank you for being real.
I was really disappointed after watching this video because I thought I was going to hear some legit reasons on why he doesn't like crochet braids from maybe a bad experience. But his opinion seems a lil biased based on some of the worst case scenarios when it comes to crochet braids. I've been wearing crochet braids now for about 4-5 months, and before crochet braids I've been wearing sew-ins for almost 10 years consistently. I don't have any chemicals in my "real hair" and it's about 12 inches long so I think I can speak from experience on all these subjects. I agree it does not take 2 hours to do crochet braids. If the hair is pre-curled it take me close to 3 hours. If I have to curl the hair myself it takes about 6 hours. Depending on how u style crochet braids depend on how big the hair is just like weft hair. I never had a big braid or big part showing when I wear crochet braids or a far back hair line even if I don't leave my hair out. It depends on how the hair is installed and the technique just like weft hair. And crochet braids are just as versatile as any other hair weave so when he says they all look the same I gotta disagree with that. Crochet braids cost at most $50 using synthetic hair and $200 using human hair and they last for crochet braids they last 3-4 My Sew-ins with new hair that's I don't reuse cost $300 - $400 and it lasts 2 1/2 months. Both protect your hair if installed right and they both can damage your hair it done wrong. Both can look natural if done right and both can look hideous if done wrong. So if you're stating why u hate crochet braids u should also mention that those same reasons can apply to any type of weave.
+Erica Rucker But this video is about crochet braids and not weave, so why would he talk about the issues with weave? He made some very valid points. Of course what he said is not going to apply to 100% of people who wear crochet braids, but he was very truthful. About 95% of the ones that I have seen fit his description. I too wear crochet braids, and I like them, but the very reasons he listed is why I was fearful of getting them in the first place. The part, the hairline, the identical curls, and the overall bad look. I had to learn various braiding styles and the different types of hair in order to make mine look natural. I took no offence to this video because he was right!
+Dawn Ins she never said he should have said anything about sew ins. What made you think that out of all the stuff she said ? But anyway i do agree with the made he made some valid points, but i agree with this woman as well because i thought this would be a bad review on crochet braids. 😕
+Dawn Ins Thank you, That was all I was saying. Can we stop acting like we don't see these gaping parts and basketwoven hairlines? Thank you for taking the video for what it was. I was just pointing out the flaws in hopes that it would make others more aware.
Lmao! I wear crochet braids & it does NOT take me 2 hours. My mom braids hair & it takes her longer that 2 hours. That is one thing that irritates me when people state that in videos. Plus with my kinky hair it takes awhile for me to get it braided.
I'm new to crochet braiding..I thought I'd check out your video. Of course with me being new to crochet braiding I bump into several things you mentioned in your video..the lumps of the braids the unnatural parts...etc. I do it because I feel it's easier than putting in a weave which I have no clue about. Or attaching a braiding hair to short hair. I've did crochet braids twice one curly hair which came out fantastic and the straight hair which could have been better. My question to you is since I assume you are a stylist...isn't the crochet braiding technique a "protective style". A way to do your hair with minimal damage while still rocking weave like hairstyles? That's another reason I do it. My daughter s hair was short so I felt by doing this it could grow her hair while still covering up or adding bulk to her short hair. Just curious. Straight hair definite no no but the curly hair is quite forgiving as far as hiding parts and braids etc..anyway. enjoyed video tho I felt self conscious as you pointed out all the obvious flaws of crochet braiding all of which I'm guilty of. :)
LOL! You have some good points especially about the part and the amount of time it really takes. I'm curious to know what would be your solution to the extra wide unnatural looking part? Post a technique that solves the problem rather than throwing shade at us for trying. I challenge you to come up with an alternate solution so that we can all jump on that bandwagon :)
lol! Portion control is key , because some folks walk around looking like mufasa.
I laughed too hard to your comment lol.
i cried at your comment
MiMi Jordan 😂😂
girl im dying !!! LMAO I saw a chick at Walmart who's hair was so big she could of hid a small child in it ! A KUNA MA TATA
I ain't gonna lie. I do want that big ole Diana Ross afro lol
he aint lying about that Red Sea part loll #letmypeoplego
yesssss
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
just in time for Easter!
love
MIZ MOOKEY THE RECESSIONISTA invisible crochet braids part is a thing...
ha ha that's the first thing I thought about Moses parting the red Sea😂
People don't use logic and common sense to get them to look right. I made sure to do research on different techniques before I attempted crochet braids and then kept adjusting my approach (trial and error) until I got the look I desired. You will NOT see me looking crazy with a 3 inch part in the middle of my head. No sir.
I see you everywhere lol
This is my 3rd time watching this. I have no regrets. 💁
lol me too. ;) We must like alot of the same type of videos you comment on almost every video i watch :)
Lashanda Rapp ive seen her on a talk show video comment section recently 😂
IJS
LMAOOOO!!! Pretend we don't see that huge part!!! I'm dying. I feel the same way, but I really want them.
We just gonna act like we don't see that huge ugly part 😂😂😂😂
I agree. I'm tired of seeing the perm rod. I hate when you can still see the braids. And the women in Cali don't curl them at all. With five packs of hair
+junia jade lmfao!!
What braid pattern do you do, straight back, in a circle?
jada smith Yes, I was. Thanks!
Kenton & Habiba Hey I'm 14 and im getting crochet seneglese twist on my head this weekend how does it feel and what's the best part on having them ?
I hope you enjoy your crochet braids, they are great if done well! I find it is not as tight as getting a weave and more flexible. Make sure some one helps you take out the hair later so you don't cut off your own hair. God bless. Please subscribe to my hair channel: Hair by Habiba
i’m subscribing to your chahbel
I am cracking up at the people who are butthurt over your opinion. Lol. I despise the style too.
Tell them!!!! So true! You got me tripping over here!!! 😂😂
I will GLADLY pass on this trend.
.
Looks painful too :/
You had me dyin over here! 😆😀😂 HE SAID THAT PART THOUGH!
♥DeNae'sMama♥ I agree. I have seen it cause damage to some people's edges due to pulling and combing the hair to constantly curl every 2 weeks
***** they did it wrong it shouldn't cause damage I kove crochet braids and wigs so ha ha to you go learn this style ok go do a video of going to an african hair braidibg salon or a salon that does this style and you will change your opinion
lol "you're not getting out this chair in 2 hrs."
Man forget what y'all talking about. I was laughing through the whole video.
I am here in 2020 getting my life.
yoooooo I laughed so hard.
I know right
omg yaaaaaaassssss!!!!! He should DEFINITELY talk about them.
that would be a good video he should definitely make o e
that would be a good video he should definitely make one
The RED SEA PART is a result of thin hair or big cornrows. The smaller the cornrows and crochet hair pieces, the better the style
I know I'm late but have you checked out BeautyCanBraid's channel? She does awesome crochet work. I'm not trying to change your opinion; I just think her's come out VERY nice. How and ever.....I have seen some awful, cheap looking crochet braids. Hilarious video! You kept it all the way real.
pinkchocolate305 Exactly! Luv her channel! She is boss with the crochet!
Beautycanbraid is a BRAID BEAST!
Freedomstyle they both are good
I have to agree with your entire video!!
It's their life not yours
-
Aliyyaa you should make a video
Kimb MargOo I've thought about making videos for a while. I just never have the time. Lol.
=] just wanting to see another technique.
Kimb MargOo Lol. If you're on Instagram follow @hairbeenatural. ***** She's amazing !! She doesn't, however, show her technique. But just so you can see other options. :)
"I ain't disclaiming shit."
This is going to be my new motto for life.
I always tell people in my videos that it took me hours or in some cases days to do my hair, and I've wondered what I was doing wrong when I saw people say it took them 2 hours. lol
20 years ago they were called Latch Braids.
it should be called that
Sure was! I had 'crochet' braids in the mid 90s. I had the hair that was already braided like micro braids & curly.
I remember
Oh it take 2to 4 hours to do it
When Im taking my time about 4 1/2
Im also sick of seeing the huge parts.
#Deathtomicros lol
micarae ok so my eyes were not deceiving me!! lol :)
micarae So true Ain't nobody got time to be braiding for a zillion hours I'm doing my "latchhooks" right now!
I don't even do hair, but when I crochet mine or my daughter's hair, it doesn't take long at all. That's one of the conveniences of crochet hair.
you're sooooo funny " just going to ignore the huge ugly part right."
Lmfao this had me cracking up, I love my crochet braids and they sure do take forever, and I've mastered my part. Lmfao I cracked up again at the bulky part.
Omg yes...I hate them tacky shits too!!!! From them ugly parts to those thick ass bulky twist...every time I see them I want to get a mop bucket.😂😂😂
you do have a lot of valid points the key is to have the braids very close together, and to implement the invisible technique when looping the hair in the part areas and around the hair line also using smaller braids and smaller portions of the bulk hair, and starting the latch hook method very close to the edges of hair line will give you a flawless and no very versatile hair weave and yes it takes at the very least 3 hrs. P.S when doing this method I only purchase- CURLED or PRE-BRAIDED bulk hair cause I have no time or patients for rods and boiling water, not to mention the "LIABILITY" if it spills accidentally!😉
I want this video to resurface sometime before the summer because some of these crochets.... 10:35 .... LOL
I def agree about the technicalities. However, crochet real takes 1-3 hours it isn't that long. I just got mine done and it took 2.5 because I had to get another pack of hair. Likewise a lot of these UA-camrs videos are hilariously misleading 😒
Guess I am the only one who laughed! LOOOOOL
I too found it to be hysterical 😂 you are not alone
Michelle Ludwig, Nope ur not. Dude is HILARIOUS!!!
lol, this was very funny and informative at the same time. I love when people can have a healthy debate and give their own opinion on a topic. You just got a new subbie. Please keep up the good work!
I’m watching again in 2019 and still crying like the first time. 😂😂😂😂😂
So many really good, valid points, comparisons and observations. Thanks for that...taking good notes. hair line, part, proportions, leave-out, no deep parts, no bulk, don't think your better than a girl with a weave, don't be mislead on installation time, try different curling rods with the marley hair.... got it!!!! :) I shall 'up my game'.
lol when he said they got the nerve to pull it up in a ponytail #truth
This had me rolling! I tried crochet braids ONE TIME and was adding too much hair and looked like the lion queen when I was only half done so I took that mess out. Not to mention how much time it took just to braid the hair. You speak the truth my friend. Speak it!!
Lol I like the video! I like crochet braids because it's easier to get to your scalp when it's time to moisturize than weaves
so true
Congrats!
LOL!
The HUGE ugly part LMAO!
Yasssss. I'm so glad I found this video😂 #truth. Side note: what are you using to slick back your hair? Bonus points!!!
Yasss you are on point. I personally like them but your views were TECHNICALLY right !!!
idk...I love my crochet braids. currently I'm wearing my second install.
Amen..lol
Amén 😳😒
EclecticFlavor. You know why, cause no one wants to admit that some hair types just silk out better with heat than others. If a persons hair isn't silky/shiny, full of "white girl flow" and down to their hips, then nobody really cares. And that is just the truth.
***** Thank you for being real....people are always soo fake with these vids...im like...dont think i'ont see through the bull..lol
and that is also the reason why most of these "natural hair vloggers" are popular...some of these curly girls BEEEENNNNN curly before the boom they just realized they could make a coin by pretending products helped their hair maintain a certain curl pattern..lol
people only care about natural 4type hair if its ridiculously long.
Thank you I live for your answer!
Yes, you said a mouth full... people kill me trying to make it seem like no matter what the texture everyone will get this silky amazing blow out with 1 pass through . .. I know my hair and I'm not falling for they hype
"...like, I'm sorry boo boo. You gon have to reschedule the date." LOL!!!!! Vid is hilarious.
Oh Lord this was Hella funny. Soo true though.. why can I see weave hanging off cornrows? SMH. too much volume, 12 tuns of weave on yo head 😑😒
Omg lol lol!!
Hahaaa!
I
Its not free its all.different kinds of synthetic hair textures for braiding that can be crocheted into to braids it look simliar to tree braids or micro braids. Better way and less tension your hair than weaving
Plus its more healthier and makes hair grow and if I do I keeep it in about 4-5 months long
I’ve been watching you for years, and I had to come back to this legendary video lol.
I wear crochet braids, the why I braid my hair it does look very natural. To each they own, because ur puff looks very tired.
DAMN ARE YOU MAD
yup lol
Lily Tear yo face look tired
Lily Tear oop. That escalated quickly lol
triggered...
OMG im just now realizing your located in ATL!! I'm ganna big chop soon and want a cute natural slick down style for prom. Definitely come to you Hair God!
Just call the number in the description when you're ready to make your appointment and I'll have your hair slaying for prom!
It clearly says "I" in the title, meaning "the person who made the video" personal opinion..meaning you did not have to watch nor comment. (im just saying) but I totally agree with you. personally dislike crotchet braids of all styles.
I'm pre-curling my afro twist Marley hair on yellow and blue rods and laughing at the same time. You are very entertaining 😂😂😂😂😂
you had me cracking UP watching this video!
Love it! Love the honesty. But I;m just curious, how long do the Kanekalon Latch-on Braids last?
lol you are sooo funny and you have alot of points... but i think you hat crochet braids because you see them done the wrong way too often.. but for the record you can make crochet braids look like a sewin if you have leave out
#hate
I agree! As far as the name. Growing up we called it latch hooks... Where did crochet braids come from????
it takes a long time yes. but there r ways to do it no leave out and it actually looks good. also you are correct about the part VERY difficult to make look natural but I find that using very curly styles parts sent necessary.
LMAO
Back in the 90s they were actual braids that you used an actual crochet needle to put in...the style evolved and the name stuck. Funny Vid
You're talking about tree braids ?
no...the same crochet braids but they were really basic looking...Wish i had a picture but I wore them all thru my undergrad
I remember them.
I remember those braids! My cousin would get them in the summer when we were little. Thats what I immediately think of when I hear the term 'Crocht Braids'
Yup all my cousins used to wear them all the time
Just earned a new subscriber !
I've been seeing them a lot lately.. Oh my GOSH this video is effing Hilarious.! I haven't had something tickle me this bad in a long time.
Would you. Recommend. Micro brading marley hair in as a better. Alternative? ??? Im curious. Please. Get back. To. Me
Okay, no, this is just petty.
Also you didn't say "naturally intended to do" I paraphrased but you did say "everyone seems to be more investing in making their hair something that it is not or doing everything possible to coax their hair to act, look, or behave like someone else's hair." and "from what I have seen, this movement lacks one essential aspect: people accepting and embracing their natural hair for what it is AND ISN'T."
The reason that hair frizzes when it comes in contacts with humidity is because your hair maybe too dry when it meets humid air.
I love this ND I live in Atlanta and I will definitely be coming to you soon to slay my "natural" hair!!
Aqua Lilly i remember everybody callin it crochet
Yes aqua lily that's what we called them back in the day "latch hooks" my mom kept them in my hair as a kid I'm 32 now so yea I still call them latch hooks..lol
Teresa McNeal maybe it depends on where y’all from cuz we always called em crochet
@@jessicab331 I'm from ohio and the older people call them latch hooks and the younger generation calls them crochet no harm I like the style..
Teresa McNeal I’m 28 and from Cincinnati... but true 🤷🏾♀️
I hollered when you said your disclaimer. LMAO! And yes to the whole name! I totally agree with that!
Still a classic video in 2018.
This rant is hilarious. I'm still about to put some in tomorrow, though. I want a big ass 'fro with no parts and my hair is too fine for all that.
Hiiii!! How are you!! First, you have great points.
I wore LATCH HOOK braids from 98 until hmmm 2008 then I was just a WEAVY WONDER!
It is not CROCHET because IT'S NOT A RUG OR BLANKET!!😆😆😆
Next, you're right again.
It's deep
So it's a movement to stop subtle racist ways of controlling Black folks.
No, no offense taken at all. I appreciate different perspectives. I can agree with many of your points of view. Thank you for watching!
You're welcome!!
Yesss, I love your sass. I actually use a crochet hook and it took me 2 days to do my hair.
I guess some people are salty on here because your saying straight truth. I was looking into chrochet braids for convenience of being able to do it myself because i cant do a sew in...but i always got turned off by that wide gap part and the hairline thing you mentioned.
You make a few very valid points, and your funny. Love it. Keep doin' what you do, Boo.
hahaha 'you aint getting outta this chair for two hours!"
I hate big bulky hair too, I tried the crochet style and took it out the same night. I couldn't make the part work, and yes every video I watched said it would take two hours, it took 5 hours for me.
they don't take more than 2 hours to crochet the braids in
LMBO yoooooo this video is hilarious, when I do my daughters hair it only takes me about 21/2 hours from start to finish and I'm new to crochet.
+Dawn Ins *man
👏👏
+Dawn Ins Thank you, That was all I was saying. Can we stop acting like we don't see these gaping parts and basketwoven hairlines? Thank you for taking the video for what it was. I was just pointing out the flaws in hopes that it would make others more aware.
I stumbled across this and I just lmaoff.... I can't stand you for this. Too true, but I love them.
I love your honesty
LOL! You have some good points especially about the part and the amount of time it really takes. I'm curious to know what would be your solution to the extra wide unnatural looking part? Post a technique that solves the problem rather than throwing shade at us for trying. I challenge you to come up with an alternate solution so that we can all jump on that bandwagon :)
it takes me 7 hours, including washing, condish etc....too much work at the end of the day
