I don’t think they lied. They gave us options.
We never considered natural oils before. Grease works for some and not others. Coconut oil is not the messiah for everyone.
If grease works use grease. If natural oils give us long lustrous hair then use that.

👏🏾👏🏾 Yes! We're all different. I only occasionally used grease before going natural over 20 years ago. Back then I relaxed my hair and it was super-thick & long. When I first went natural I found that grease & most oils just sit on my hair & jack up my curl pattern! Yes, my scalp needed moisture and maybe oil, but my hair does not like it at all. If it's mixed into a product it's a little better but my hair will protest every time. *Sigh* my search continues for a grease or oil that will stay on my scalp on not get on my hair OR that my hair likes.

@@kailabrown1446, @Michelle Gil : Thanks for your answers. My problem is on "day 2": basically I wash once a week, then spray water (my hair dries really fast) and apply shea butter. Then on day 2, I re-hydrate and reapply shea butter. But, although my hair grows fast, I have not been retaining any length. So I tried petrolatum grease, but on day 2 I can't spray water on any more (it's messy sticky), and if I don't spray water my hair is not easy to style (into a bun). I'll try using it only on the ends.

When I first went natural 18 years ago, before there was a movement or videos, I used what my dad told me to use- grease and water. He would hate it when my mom permed my hair and would be like, "I don't know why you're doing all that! All she needs is grease and water". And babyyyyy when I used grease on my natural my hair, it was so lush! I never had knots, and barely any dandruff. Then the natural hair movement happened, all the girls were talking about how bad grease was, so I listened and tried something new, you know, the butters and oil combos, etc. Then multiple combinations of cowashes and deep conditioners. My hair started to knot up so bad and I had dandruff after like day 2 of wash day (and yes I oil my scalp, what you think this is).
Anyway, long story short, I found this old jar of grease in my cabinet a few months ago and was like, what the hell. Babayyyy, when I tell you!! When I slicked that grease onto my scalp, my scalp literally SCREAMED, "HALLELUJAHHHHH!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 My scalp caught the holy ghost and got delivert, ya'll. It felt so much healthier, I don't have to apply it as often and my hair stays juicy. Plus I have like 90% less knots. Now I do use this natural ingredient grease, but I'm happy I went back!

Davinci sullivan you are completely right. I know plenty girls with her hair types that don’t have her issues.
The scalp produces it’s own sebum and if ppl just leave their scalp alone it’ll be fine, unless they have a medical condition determined by a MD or NP. This is basic biology lol. Grease is over drying ppl just don’t stop long enough to notice the difference and aren’t use to their scalps working the way it’s suppose to. Any oil will seal in moisture, a good one being, Argan or pure jojoba oil. She didn’t post any scientific resources to these claims either. Or even just basic chem to connect the dots.
Haven’t used grease in years and my hair is producing plenty of oil. I invest in good deep conditioners as well. I don’t use a lot of coconut oil because that’s straight protein and you can give your hair a protein overload, just like you can give your hair a moisture overload.
If someone does use grease you only need it on your ends and there are PLENTY of oil based products that aren’t expensive that are non-comedogenic and blue magic isn’t one of them, the first ingredient is mineral oil. Plus companies can slap anything on a bottle as say it doesn’t clog pores.
She also contradicts herself when she says dermatologist (as if all) recommends petroleum for extremely dry skin but they also say avoid clogging your pores, every skin type is different so everyone isn’t getting prescribed the same medication from the MD. Or just make your own and put a preservative in it, it’s not that hard.

I'm for anything that works for your hair. Don't use grease because of the heaviness and it has the tendency to get all over every thing. I use coconut oil and Shea Moisture. Ni La I soo agree. People are getting it out of context. I don’t believe natural hair community lied. I think they just told us some products would yield better results - that is not wrong. Different strokes for different folks and everyone has to find out what works best for themselves.
If grease works it’s okay too. We are all trying to get the best results. Whether it be natural products or man made.

I went back to grease myself. The last time I used grease was back in high school when I used to press my own hair. My mom used to do just water and Blue Magic or water and Vaseline and brush my hair and put it in two ponytails. I had long hair when I was a kid and my mom for whatever reason took me to a salon and they gave me a perm and cut all my hair off! I just went back to my beautician about a month ago now and had her trim my ends because I had health issues. I thought my hair was jacked up. Nope she blew it out and it was long! She cracked open the Blue Magic grease and the smell took me back! My natural hair is so long and it didn't lose moisture at all. I had it straight for over 2 weeks. It wasn't greasy at all. That's what sparked me to come back. Also my hair grew 1/2 an inch in 2 weeks. I've never seen it grow so fast. So I'm back in the grease game. 😁

I love how grease made my hair feel, I just hate how grease feels when its gettingon everything else! Everybody remembers being embarrassed by touching your hair or scratching your head and then leaving grease marks on everything! Your pillow is greasy, your clothes get grease on them. I wish there was a product that did what grease did for hair but without getting everywhere.

I love that she owns her natural hair. It's so beautiful. I don't know how i feel about Grease but I think for certain hair textures its necessary.
