      I wear pull-up pants because my hips are smaller than my waist. I prefer drop waist. The wristbands roll and cut into my hips. I wear it with tunics or mini dresses.

      What is wrong with pull on jeans? I found them when I was pregnant and ever since I just love them. I have a pair that is lined with a layer of fleece and wow they kept me warm during winter too! Since my tops are usually long they cover over the elastic band. So convenient for a very busy mum like me! Practical too! They look cheap? I really am not sure what you even mean.

    Pull on jeans are actually to accommodate different waist to hip ratios and are usually created with the idea that the wearer will not be showing the waist line. It will be hidden under clothes. It’s actually quite difficult for some body shapes to find jeans that fit.

      Thank you for mentioning that! My dad was a textile company rep and he taught me the same thing. Also, woven vs. printed patterns - woven (higher quality) has the pattern on both sides of the fabric and printed (cheaper/lower quality) has the pattern on top while underneath it's plain white. He also had me inspecting fabric content labels and checking seams to look for any puckering.

      @@essemmgee idk about this… maybe it’s just preference because I am curvy, have a belly pooch and I find that those jegging pull on styles have no support for the stomach and your belly pooches out. I find styles with zippers better for keeping tummy in

    • @essemmgee
      @essemmgee 7 місяців тому +1

      @@Msstarstruck12It’s definitely personal preference AND depends on the jeans! I totally agree with you that a lot of the pull up leggings have zero support. I wish I could find a pair of zip up jeans that worked for me but I seem to be an odd size. I carry my weight around my hips and mid section, and if the jeans fit my mid section it’s WAY too big in my butt and legs, and if it fits in the legs I have a total camel toe 🤣 I also prefer the leggings that have back pockets and look like actual jeans, not the pocketless ones. That definitely helps the look! Would love some good recs on zipped jeans brands if you have any!

  • @allisonroberge2022

    FYI…. The silly loops on garments with tie belts are only there to minimize the chance of losing the belt from the time the item leaves the manufacturer to when it’s purchased. Just like labels on a mattress or pillows, you CAN remove them. Just clip the thread loops as close to the seam. It’s likely the garment will look better when you tie the belt where ‘your’ waist is.

    Dresses with ties or stretchy sections are actually a great way to shop more sustainably. Most people’s bodies fluctuate in size a bit and it ensures your clothes fit you longer and means you don’t have to buy new ones as often. There are definitely good quality brands with this intention. (Probably not amazon’s intent though, admittedly)

      It doesn’t look cheap. In fact, it helps accentuate and give the illusion of a more defined waist for smaller women who have a shorter torso, smaller hips, or slender build overall will get a more hourglass look. That elastic usually extends a little so it gives the appearance of a longer torso as well.

      its so much simpler to buy the pattern and make it yourself, you get high end patterns and it reflects itself, you buy a quality fabric n you wind up looking like youre a rich girl,,,,, but you made it yourself n saved approx 2 G......... plus it fits perfectly or take apart an old dress that fir perfectly n make your own pattern size etc

    • @SarahAnneStuff
      @SarahAnneStuff 4 місяці тому

      @@lydiaragonese4768 That is correct. Belts and ties come with very lovely, high-end clothing because while "too tight" is never flattering on anybody, fitted is, and everyone looks best with fitted clothing, and often times the style is intended to be loose both up top and on the bottom, but still intended to accentuate the waist. Affluent women wear items like these all the time :)

I have digestive issues & pull on pants have been a life saver for me sitting in an office all day. My top covers the top part of my pants so nobody even knows they are pull on pants. I deleted my comment because another viewer told me that I should just go watch plus size clothing videos because Shea can’t please everyone. If I may, this is not in any way intended to sound "uppity" but rather to ease your mind a bit. I am a person of means who lives alongside affluent people, and we love our pull-on pants. Yes, I'm sure we may be paying more for thicker material or what have you, but honestly jeggings and other pull-on pants are perfectly fine. Part of living in luxury is just that - being comfortable. I never wear jeans
      The key is to find nice pieces that fit properly. In a perfect world everyone would be able to get the best fabrics, but just do the best you can with what you have and make the most of it
      This is a bit of a side rant, but one thing affluent people tend to not really engage in is jumping on trends all the time. For the most part, we just don't. We get some trendy accessories, but we also don't pay a lot of money for them because there's no point with trends
      Ladies, keep doing you. With the exception of the zippers showing on dresses, these are really matters of personal opinion and taste, and I really don't agree with her on most of them

    Pull-on jeans have saved my sanity. As a neurodivergent person, I have sensory issues with tight waistlines and especially with the button on jeans and trousers waists. The “annoying little strings” that come with tie belts are meant to be TEMPORARY!! CUT THEM OFF !! Their sole purpose is to keep the belt with the dress ~ once you buy the dress, no need for them. You don’t keep the plastic, cellophane wrap on a lamp shade. Same thing. It’s temporary!!

      As a tall person I always long for the “puddleng” (skinny) jeans. To me they actually do look expencive as most of the regular and affordable stores only ever had skinny jeans that reached my ankles when I used to buy them and I always felt like a child who had outgrown her pants… you could only get longer ones from the more expencive stores where there were different length options so to find skinny jeans that puddled was always a jackpot for me (not to mention that it is -20 degrees Celsius where I live during winter and I do not want my ankles exposed in this weather 😀)

    Thanks for the video Shea! But I have to hard disagree about the elastic waist on dresses. They make dresses so comfortable and versatile for all the body stages that a woman can go through in a month, let alone in life! Nearly all my dresses have some sort of shirring - some around the waist, some in the chest or back - but it's saved me from having to buy new dresses when I fluctuate in size. I think it's smart for brands to do this, even if it feels like a shortcut. They're accommodating wonky body types that don't perfectly fit in numbers or letters. I use Madewell as an example, who do elastic-waist dresses in really classy designs.

    Shirring is a little tricky...too much is definitely too much but for us curvier body types elastic shirted panels or accents are a great way to gather and smooth comfortably to accentuate lovely curves. I agree that a tailored look is more appropriate for a formal-type setting but especially in a casual summer style shirring adds a flirty and feminine touch without being to binding 😉

    • @StephanieGraska
      @StephanieGraska 8 місяців тому +3

      Well, I came here to comment on the same, somewhat...
      Shirring, depending on the quality of the work, fabric, and of the items' design, can be beautifully flattering or horribly cheap looking.
      The stitch that Shea was referring to is actually called "smocking."" This is something that I personally associate with childrens dresses, pinafores and aprons.. ( you might have heard of smocked dresses, etc. referenced in old timey childrens books)
      My Mother wore this style in childhood dresses the 50's (though it dates much further back), but then it was more of a ridgid stitchery rather than the cheap elastic they incorporate on today's ready to wear..
      Unless you have a Bridgerton ( et al) style function or preference, then skip it. It is a juvenile look and comes off as cheap and unflattering.
      Likewise, the huge buttons are a travesty and should be avoided at all costs! I understand the function, but none of us live in Arctic climates requiring that, especially on cheap sweaters.
      Love you, Shea, and thank you!!

    Cheap to me are unlined dresses made out of lightweight fabric or dresses that show their lining. Other cheap-looking garments are ripped jeans, crooked stitching, unhemmed pants (too long), obvious polyester/ plastic looking fabric, unmatched plaids, and long stichting length. Usually, the more construction details a garment has: pintucks, darts at the bust, darts in the back, interfacing, and understitching, the more expensive the garment looks. Also, a good fit makes a garment look expensive. By the way, I am a hobby garment sewist, so I pay a lot of attention to details.

    There's a lot to unpack here my dear.
    Exposed zips are a style choice within the deconstructed genre. The metal teeth zips are actually costly, especially in dresses (longer length), as are the construction techniques necessary to finish them well at the bottom of the zips.
    Now the garments they are typically used in are "cheap" sexy from a style perspective as compared to more elegant sexy.
    Elastic shirring is stitched with a more expensive elastic thread and is also a style choice that is not necessarily less expensive. It conveys romanticism with a higher comfort level and is only less costly in construction than a structured waistband or added belt.
    The button thing is more about the contrast in color than size, it is true that buttons that blend convey a more classic and elegant feel than high contrast. For me though the material of the button is most important. Shell, wood, metal, anything natural over plastic is better.
    Pull on jeans are meant to be worn like leggings which require a longer top to cover the butt. They are not pants, think of them like heavy tights.
    As for white stitching on jeans, an abundance of top stitching is more costly no matter the color of the thread.
    I agree on the faux leather and half lining.
    My advice, ditch the polyester/synthetics, focus on natural fiber fabrics and spend a bit for fit (alterations).

    Agree with all of these except the shirring/stretch/elastic simply for practicality and comfort. Tailored pieces that fit exactly are perfect for formal events, but for every day our clothing should have enough wiggle room that we aren't afraid of eating too much or our weight fluctuating with salt intake.
    I've also noticed on a lot of pieces that are cheaper that the shoulder seam is too long and the arm hole is too large and shows undergarments.

      I am naturally thin but when I gain weight, it’s in the tummy area. Pull-on jeans are great for not adding bulk, ie. belt loops, zippers, & buttons, at the midsection. Admittedly, there are some really bad looking pull-on jeans out there but there are some great ones, too. Plus, if you are wearing a top that comes down over the waistband, you can’t tell they don’t have a zippered fly. The older I get the more comfort matters more than fashion.

    I’ve been sharing your videos with my mother who grew up modeling and wearing high fashion, and she taught me what classy looks like, how to find a sale, and not to follow cheap trends. You are so spot on and you have a great eye! I’m especially impressed that you found so much of this stuff on Amazon, which makes you even more awesome. 😊
    Also, Wal-Mart got in some high-waisted flare-leg jeans and they’re the most comfortable AND flattering pair I’ve ever had for my shape! I’m about to go get three more pairs like I did with my Iugas from Amazon, rofl!

    B, I totally agree with you about seams not matching up for stripes or print. Shea, I’m with you on tie belts. I have a dress I just love that came with the little string belt loops and a tie belt. The dress was a check pattern of white and pale blue. I cut off the strings and replaced the belt with a wide white leather one. It really elevated the entire look of the dress

    I agree with all these. Ruching is the elastic fabric, which I like. I normally take the fabric belt off dresses and use a regular belt.

    I agree with the yellow in jeans. It does look really cheap. Exposed Zippers, I despise. I'm not a fan of the bulky belt of some items. Some people can pull it off, but I'm still not a fan of it. The elastic, I'm not sure about. I have one item that has it and I always get compliments on it. The other item I stopped wearing and donated it. It didn't fit me correctly nor looked good on me.
    Thanks for sharing with us. May you have a Blessed evening.

    Concerning the smocked, elastic waists and tie belts. Wear a good belt with the dress and the look is elevated.

    The “trend” that has always looked cheap to me are hi-low hems….I will never own anything with that type of hem, even in designer dresses I just hate them.

    I 🧡LOVE LOVE LOVE my pull on jeans. They shrink a little belly pooch, are super comfortable, my shirts lay flat against my stomach (no button/fabric sticking forward), easy off/on, so flattering. Don't knock it til you tried it. I love the clean look and the functionality. I loathe wearing non-pull on jeans now because it's the same old problems that the pull on jeans solved.

    I love pull on jeans. When you have a belly buttons don’t pop out. It’s difficult to find a Jean with button that fits in the waist is extremely difficult. You don’t have this to deal with as in post menopausal women 😊

    I feel like the pull on pants are great for people with arthritis or other people with disabilities that may make fastening buttons or zippers difficult/impossible. I get where you’re coming from, as someone who loves fashion and thinks details are very important, but I just wanted to throw this out there

    I have the problem with pants always being too long. I’m 5’3. I do the same thing. I order the “short” or “cropped”length and that usually works. Sometimes it will actually be a little cropped and then I look taller! I don’t like “vegan” leather at all. I have found that it frequently peels. I also find that natural fabrics just look and feel better.

    I you sewed, you would know that with any given button design, the big size costs more than the same button, smaller size. With knitting, the button size needs to balance the weight of the yarn, visually, and chunkier wools make for a larger button hole so hence a larger button. But hey....whatever floats your boat.

    Pull on jeans or pants are a go-to for seated body types. I'm a wheelchair user, and I wear both. Most time's people wear a top that covers the waist. If the cut of the jean is good and the length is good with the the right shoe or boot. When a person knows how to style: it can work.
