Riddick is a 2013 science fiction action film written and directed by David Twohy, based on the character Richard B. Riddick by Jim and Ken Wheat. It is the third installment in The Chronicles of Riddick film series and a sequel to both Pitch Black (2000) and The Chronicles of Riddick (2004). Vin Diesel reprises his role as the eponymous character alongside Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Dave Bautista, Bokeem Woodbine, Raoul Trujillo, and Karl Urban. In the film, notorious murderer Riddick is betrayed and left for dead on a desolate planet and uses his instincts to survive. He eventually teams up with mercenaries arriving to capture him to escape from a larger threat. Riddick was released in the United States on September 6, 2013. Critics considered it a return to form for the series and it became a moderate box-office success compared to its predecessor. A fourth film, entitled Riddick: Furya, is in development.
Five years after Kyra's death, Riddick has become uneasy in his role as Lord Marshal of the Necromonger fleet. His refusal to swear into the Necromonger faith has caused dissent among his subjects. After the latest attempt on his life, Riddick strikes a deal with Commander Vaako: the location of Furya and a ship to take him there, in exchange for Vaako succeeding him as the next Lord Marshal so that he can achieve transcendence. Led by Vaako's aide, Krone, Riddick and a group of Necromongers arrive on a desolate planet. Realizing that it is not Furya, Riddick kills most of his escorts when they attempt to assassinate him; Krone causes a landslide and buries Riddick alive.
Riddick emerges from the rubble with a broken leg, which he sets and splints while fending off native predators: vulture-like flying animals, packs of jackal-like beasts, and giant venomous scorpion-like water-dwelling Mud Demons. Needing time to heal, Riddick hides himself within some abandoned ruins. After he's fully healed, Riddick notices a vast savanna beyond some rocky cliffs, but the only passage through is impeded by several muddy pools infested with Mud Demons. He begins injecting himself with Mud Demon venom to build an immunity and constructs improvised melee weapons, as well as raising and training an orphaned jackal-beast pup. He kills the Mud Demons blocking his entrance and reaches the savanna. After finding a mercenary station, Riddick notices a series of approaching storms and concludes they will unleash a dangerous threat. Riddick activates an emergency beacon at the station, which broadcasts his identity to mercenary groups within the area.

Pitch Black was excellent but the story in Chronicles was dumb as f**k. They lost the run of themselves with the increased budget and tried to retcon the character. Riddick went from getting his night vision from a vet that was working as a doctor in a max slam to 'space ghost Judy Dench gave him night vision so he can fight the army who worship death and the under verse.'
They took a fantastic, gritty and grounded sci fi universe and tried to convert it into a space opera as soon as they got more money.
Riddick worked because they returned to the formula from the first film.

Wow, that's the exact opposite of how I felt about the series. I always LOVED Chronicles & hoped they'd make another sequel like it, not the whole lost on a dead planet type thing.
What I didn’t like about the second one is the production design of the first set up a very specific style of a future that was 180 degreed into a fantasy setting. I almost imagined a cyber punk style aesthetic they were going for. Didn’t hate the second one just felt jarring seeing two totally different styles.

Chronicles of Riddick is very underrated, despite it's over-the-top flaws.
I liked chronicles of Riddick the most. That necromongers storyline was so cool. I wish they did a spinoff, with only the Necromongers. For instance set in the past and showing how the first lord marshal, Covu the Trancended came to be. It would be super interesting

It's those over the top flaws that kind of make it as good as it is. Because it doesn't care... it just plows ahead and forces you to accept them. Amd the visuals for it are astounding.

it's always been my favorite too. the way he manipulates the bounty hunters to take him to crematoria so he can rescue kira is awesome.
i've seen many people complain that ir was too confusing, which i never understood. it's a pretty simple plot, not sure how it managed to confuse so many people.

i haven't gone to see a movie in theatres in years, i always just the the movies i like. not sure why bluray/dvd sales never seem to factor into a film's success. seems to me if a movie barely breaks even in theatres but sells a few million bluray/dvd, that's a success.

Those games were awesome! Stealth and puzzle with Riddick voiced by Vin.
I loved every movie, and was I was quick to go to the theaters.

Dark Fury should be in conversation too. Fills the gap between Pitch Black and Chronicles. This could’ve been a great cartoon series if it followed the movie timeline.
I really enjoyed Pitch Black and so was quite happy to see the others. I really quite enjoyed them all, so after all this time im quite looking forward to the next installation ❤.

Every character has to be vin diesel in different costumes interacting with a greenscreen mannequin which will later be superimposed with footage of his other costumed performances.
Female vin diesels will not have any sexual dimorphism or verbal variation - all are vin diesel. Some just have lipstick on.
We also need a Vin Diesel strip club of vin diesels stripping for vin diesel while vin diesels stop the more rowdy vin diesels from touching the vin diesels.

Riddick is a great action antihero character. Pitch Black was nearly perfect, Chronicles was OK, and Riddick was pretty badass.

Ibwill doe on this hill, all 3 of these movies are just way to much damn fun. Incredible world building. A complex world. Some crazy ideas for various peoples. The visuals are amazing. Love the music. The mythology created by it all. Long have I wanted more in this universe.
Furya was already greenlit A LONG time ago......It's already in production.
I enjoyed all the films but Riddick really stepped it up, movie was entertaining whole way through. Excited for this one, can't wait to see the fauna on Furya.

Chronicles was a fantastic movie. Far better than the other two. He needs revenge against the necromongers!! The third one fell short on that and instead repeated pitch black ideology.
