    Sweet setup man and so neat & clean! I hate builds with wires all over the place, you did a great job! Too bad the transducer couldn't sit just a tad higher but like you said, you should be fine with the front keel sitting lower.
    I'm working on a 4 part tutorial on installing a switch panel, duel USBs, bow / stern lights, interior lights and a spotlight. I'll post a part every week beginning next week. You might want to add a few more goodies to that power source.

    I know I’m late to the party but could you cut the top of the mounting bracket off and then drill 2 new holes through the sold area of the Garmin bracket to allow more clearance? Also, is it not easier to remove the plate on the Slayer, mount the bracket, then reattach? I’m performing this process this exact Slayer Pro Max10/Garmin install this week so I guess I’ll find out soon enough. Lol

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX  Рік тому

      Yeah you could probably cut the bracket to make it a little shorter, but I don't think it would give you a ton of extra room. I don't have the tools for that so it never crossed my mind! I heard there's supposedly an adapter that lets you mount it recessed inside that cut out too.
      And yes if you have a table clamp to secure the plate while you drill holes, it would probably be easier that way. I just moved into my house so I basically have a drill and that's it 😂 Good luck om the install and let me know if you have any other questions!

    It's been a year since I watched this video and i'm back! I'm buying a Humminbird Helix 10 with all the goodies of 2023 technology. I cast equally on the left and right sides but i'm planning on mounting the bird on the left due to all the free space. My question is, are you happy with the finder on the left and are you left or right handed? I'm guessing if it's on the left and you're right handed like me, it may be a bit cumbersome. If you're right handed and have no problem with it on the left, that's where I will drill my mounting hole.

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX  7 місяців тому +1

      Welcome back! Hope all is well man. Congrats on the Helix 10, that thing is a beast! We just got the helix 12 on our boat and it's awesome. I'm right handed, so I like it on the left side out of the way. I tend to set the hook to the right side more often, which I realized when I had it on the right side on my Pelican. I do cast both sides though and have only hit it a couple times lol. Good thing about the side plates on the Native, you could always swap the plates if you realize you prefer it on the right! That's why I only drilled in the plates and not the kayak just in case.

      @@FishATX O' sweet, you have a Helix too!
      Bought it yesterday from BassPro for $999 which is $600 off! MEGA SI+ & MEGA DI+ is going to rock! I never used a fish finder before and never wanted or needed one. I moved last year to NW Florida and went from fishing the Everglades to large, deep lakes. I need to find the structure, otherwise i'm just playing the guessing game and wasting my time. I really didn't want to use a finder but it's absolutely necessary here.
      Thank you for the information! I will be mounting it on the left side and i'm certain I will be happy. Worst case as you said, just get a new plate.

      @@HomesteadOnThePreserve Mega Si and DI is a game changer for sure! I fish creeks and rivers 90% of the time so I'm still figuring fish finders out too, but the new Helix is amazing. That USB socket lights are constantly drawing on your battery, can they be disabled??? Correct me if I'm wrong but transducers can shoot though plastic, therefore you could've flush mounted that transducer.

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX  Рік тому +1

      You could just unplug the USB socket from the Y connector if you're worried about it. But after a full day of fishing (7-8 hours), with my garmin running and charging gopro batteries on the usb charger, I still have like 75% power left on the battery. It's a beast!
      Yeah most transducers can read through plastic but it's not as accurate and clear as straight in water, and since the Native have the transducer cut out anyways it's super easy to install there. I've heard now they have an adapter that pushes the transducer up into the hole for protection. I need to check those out still!

  • @chuckmatses6803
    @chuckmatses6803 2 роки тому +1

    That transducer will take a beating because it is not recessed enough. Florida Fish Hunter makes an appropriate bracket. Native should redesign that.

      Yeah there’s SO many good options, it took me a lot of researching and talking to the local kayak shop about what to get. I love my Native so far, but I was also looking at Old Town and Jackson. Hobie is of course super popular but I wanted something different, and they are pricey!
