    Is this still the best fishing kayak if I’m only looking to spend $500?

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX 5 днів тому

      Sorry for the late reply! I’d say it’s a great kayak for $500, but it also depends on what kind of water you’re planning to fish. Some other good options to look into are Ascend Kayaks or I just saw Magellan released the Pro Angler Kayak which looks pretty promising. Sometimes you can find used kayaks for a great price too.

      Thanks! I’ve debated on a cooler seat too. That way you can sit up higher, and also hold more cold beer 😂 but it’s probably harder to paddle for longer distances. Let me know what you end up using and how you like it! Thanks for watching

    I just bought the Slayer Max like you did. You've been the guy that has the setup I would wanna use but I do have one question regarding the sonar underneath the Slayer Max. Could I leave the sonar underneath the boat and it be safe against putting in a river? I was afraid of something like rocks or something in a river and ripping the sonar apart.

      Congrats on the new yak! I'm assuming you watched my other video on the install? ua-cam.com/video/wTcfGb-z77U/v-deo.htmlsi=F__A_b8b9bsJJGN0 It will sit down a little but it's protected by the front hull section somewhat. I haven't tried it on a river with lots of shallow rocks and rapids though. One guy told me he cut the Native mounting block to make it shorter. I've heard there's also adapters that let you sit it higher, maybe something like this: ua-cam.com/video/wTcfGb-z77U/v-deo.htmlsi=F__A_b8b9bsJJGN0 Let me know what works!

    Good video man. I saw this kayak on Dick sports Good. I was wondering how is this kayak. This is the first review of this kayak I have seen. This is a nice kayak. I just wish that it had dry Storage but you can at it on to the kayak. I have a question? How did it feel on your feet 🦶 being barefooted 👣 on the kayak & how did the molded in foot Brace ? I have never owned a kayak with that kind of foot brace before & was wondering about them because I have to kayak barefooted 👣 style because I have big very very Extremely wide feet sz15 6E wide ( which is very very extremely wide feet 🦶 ) with very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across making my foot very very Extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. My foot outgrow shoes , socks , & boots when I was young & I am a chubby fat dude with very very extremely wide feet 🦶 & toes so I need something that comfortable for me. Thanks you for sharing this video buddy.

      Hey man, first off I really appreciate you watching my review! Glad you enjoyed it. It has a small dry storage hatch, but a dry bag would definitely be great in the front straps. As far as the foot rests, they are basic molded in spots. I think a wide foot would be fine. However to be honest, if I was a bigger guy, I’d look into a 12 ft kayak that is wider for better stability and comfort, with an upgraded high seat. They will be heavier and less easy to transport, but you might be more comfortable in it.

    Are you ever fearful of your hooks puncturing the board ?

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX 3 місяці тому

      Not really! I’ve had a swimbait fly back at me when a bass jumped and it stuck into the board a little but didn’t puncture. The material is pretty hard so you would have to set the hook hard into it for it to happen. And most are dual layered to prevent punctures. I’ve also nailed sharp sticks and rocks with no issue, but you need to make sure it’s a good quality board.

      There’s a few decent ones in the area of this video! I just use Google maps satellite and look for ponds that don’t have a fence or gate to access. Especially ones that are darker green/blue to know it has some depth.

    That is a very nice kayak and at a great price too! I'm looking for something exactly like this for my wife. She doesn't want a peddle or flipper drive so this light weight 10 foot would be perfect for her. This is also an excellent choice for someone wanting to get into kayaking / kayak fishing without jumping into the top tier prices of a Native Watercraft, Hobie, etc. The Crosswater 100 seems like a perfect entry level kayak and when/if someone is ready to upgrade in the future it would make a perfect "buddy" kayak!

      Hey man! Sorry I took a while to get back to ya, currently in the process of moving houses so it’s pure chaos! I appreciate you watching as always brother. It’s definitely a great entry level kayak if you’re not wanting something decked out for fishing, and just easy to get on the water for a short trip. I agree the seat could be better, since for fishing a higher up frame seat is preferred for a long day on the water. But this is still a fun easy simple kayak to own for sure.

      Agreed for a SUP in moderate winds. Lately we’ve had 15-20mph winds, and I use it for my kayaks too, so might as well get a good one that’s gonna hold in all conditions!

      Could a guy use the paddle as a anchor pole? I made a set of anchor poles and was wondering if I could use that?

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX 2 місяці тому

      @@erichanson7261 I've done it, but most of the paddles float so they don't like to stay down. I'd love to have some type of anchor pole on the SUP and kayak though. I usually just tie to a limb or sit next to the bank if its windy.

    • @erichanson7261
      @erichanson7261 2 місяці тому

      @FishATX the poles I made are 1.5" diameter fiberglass rod. They have a couple threaded caps on them so I can have them at 7' all the way up to I think 15'. I think that would work good. It would just lay on the board. I'd like to figure out a way to attach it to the side of the board. Then I would just slide it through a ring attached to a d loop.

  • @Nate28752

    Been looking into doing something like this. My biggest concern it the fin on the bottom getting taken out by rocks. The river I typically float has some light rapids that I think would snap the fin. Any issues with that?

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX 4 місяці тому

      We don’t really have any legit “rapids” in my area so I haven’t tried that yet. I can say it definitely scrapes in shallow spots and hits underwater trees, but it’s been fine. I’d be more concerned of nailing a big rock in rapids and getting tossed from the SUP honestly! The skeg on this one has a screw system so it’s locked in tight and pretty tough plastic material.

    • @Nate28752
      @Nate28752 4 місяці тому

      @@FishATX in your opinion is this more or less stable than your average 12 foot kayak like a Lifetime or Pelican?

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX 4 місяці тому

      @@Nate28752 It's a little tough to compare since they handle differently, and I've only fished out of 10 ft kayaks. My Pelican Catch was wide and fairly easy to stand on, but I guess the SUP might be less likely to tip since it's flat contacting the water everywhere. My Native Slayer Max is sturdy as hell, but it's heavy so I often still take the SUP out instead if I'm fishing smaller bodies of water. Against a 12 ft kayak, I'd think the kayak would be more stable overall, but the SUP is just so easy to get out and if you have the balance to stand on it, it's a ton of fun to fish on. Hopefully that helps a little lol

      Atoll boards make river fins that are hard rubber and made to flex. The paddleboard just needs to have a universal fin box.
