      thats 100% not true a vast majority of actors are definitely not rich and often just scraping by. Some (not all) of the major popular actors do get to come into money once they succeed enough times to have a popularity or awards bait bargaining chip but most actors are not those actors, most actors are career actors playing background characters in law & order and getting supporting roles in their friends low budget indie film while struggling to pay rent. Even actors you like in big shows dont have as much money as you think, its just that the rich ones really get talked about.

      My favorite detail about the ending is when we see Andy in her final outfit. Stylish, sleek, yet simple, and it's a symbol that Andy was no longer a fashionista but a more mature version of herself. She no longer felt the need to over-dress but understood the power of what one puts on their back. She wanted to be something, and her time at Runway taught her to dress for it.

    The movie's ending is so effective because it's so subtle. In the car, Miranda commends Andy for her ability to "look beyond what people want and choose for herself", and then a minute later, Andy does exactly that: she looks beyond what Miranda wants (i.e. a competent assistant for Paris fashion week), and chooses for herself. And instead of going "wait, no, not like that", Miranda ends up respecting her decision and they part as equals. It's such a complete and satisfying payoff to their relationship, I can't imagine any follow-up to feel like anything other than contrived.

    Anna Wintour is a HUGE tennis fan, and I used to work at the club she played at. Anna booked the club an hour before it technically opens, so she'd have the place to herself.
    The day before, my boss, Jen B., told me NOT to look or talk to her; as if that woman and I were completely different species.
    I was very young... 24 at the time. But that didn't feel right to me.
    So, the morning comes, I'm at the desk, and I see her walking up the stairs as she enters, in her signature glasses. I look DIRECTLY at her, inviting, and she takes off her glasses. I say, "Good morning!" and she says firmly, but cordially, "Good morning." The way she said it to me almost felt like she was saying, "FINALLY. Someone with a backbone".
    I was lucky to man the desk at that time, because the person who usually did was out sick.

    I would like to point out how this channel points out the legitimacy of fashion. I believe whole heartedly that no matter what you wear, it is a reflection to a degree of your psychological state and identity. This channel has given such validation to why fashion is an important part of every single person's lives, from using it to sell a story in costuming or analyzing time period trends. Fashion is a way that we either consciously or even unconsciously identify ourselves as a part of a group of people we identify with as well as offers cues to what we are going through (there's a reason costume designers have a job). This channel has done such a good job in breaking down fashion to the point where I ask myself what message m y clothes convey everyday, as if I would be featured on this channel. It's more than 'looking' a certain way, its about identifying the underlying themes we see in an outfit- much more meaningful than football, in my opinion (I'm also a guy)

    • @lulupomegranate
      @lulupomegranate 2 місяці тому +6

      In the book, Miranda came from a huge lower class family and saved up small amounts of money her older siblings were able to treat her with, and started her career at 17, running off to be an assistant to an important fashion magazine person just a few months before she was supposed to graduate highschool. She also schooled herself out of a "lowbrow" accent and taught herself french. Imo, if they ever do a prequel, it would be smart to focus on how ballsy she is (and how loving her family probably was, and supportive) instead of how cutthroat she can be.
      (in the book she also changed her name slightly to sound more posh but eh I didn't like that tbh.

    While the sequel plot synopsis, examining the downfall of traditional magazine etc. sounds really topical and interesting, there’s no reason it has to be THIS IP. The need to revisit every story for a modern update is suffocating and shows that studios are unable to craft new narratives and characters. Relying on characters we already know often feels like a way to shortcut writing new stories with nuanced personalities.

    The devil wears Prada is responsible for two things: my respect and admiration to fashion industry and my unhealthy lore to Meryl Streep as a actor, i remember as a young kid in 2006 the massive sensation it caused I remember it first premiering on VOD me and my entire family watched it and I loved it instantly. For a boring and bland fashion dresser, it’s responsible for why I take clothing and sense of style more serious, and as for Meryl, this is the movie that I believe not only cemented Meryl as the greatest actress of all time but the greatest actor of all time PERIOD go argue with the wall or your grandma,

    The problem with the Devil Wears Prada sequel is that Miranda would immediately be running that shit. Working as a fashion editor for one of the biggest international titles in the industry, I have to say that the story for the sequel definitely feels worth telling. Advertising has always been the main pillar of our universe and this potential sequel will definitely give perspective to that. A lot of people want to work for magazines thinking they will live "The Devil Wears Prada" lifestyle, but so much has changed since then. Although I do think a sequel, showing Miranda in harsh conditions, could 'end' the fairytale aspect of the story, it could also help shed light to the publishing world's current situation. Having said that, I'm torn between wishing or not for this sequel, but am most towards 'yes'.

    I remember hearing someone (Matt Damon, maybe?) talk about how streaming is the cause of all these sequels and franchises. Used to be that even if your movie bombed in theaters, it would likely eventually make up sales later on in VHS, DVD, or Blu-Ray. It might take years, but it was likely to happen eventually as small groups of people chatted about it or someone came across it in a store.
    But Netflix isn’t paying big money to have a little movie that didn’t find its audience to be on their service-they want it tossed in for a few pennies-a fraction of the total income of physical media. Sure, it’s less expensive to make them, but not by enough that they aren’t making a profit over time. Stores don’t want to take a loss on physical media; they’ll put it in a discount bin rather than chuck it. Netflix only pays big money for big films that will draw people to sign up; no skin off their teeth if they don’t renew rights on a little film.
    So small films that aren’t based on an existing IP with an existing audience are riskier to make these days. Unless you’re a company like A24 that is drawing in audiences to new projects based on brand loyalty (like Miramax did in the 90s), there’s a lot of risk involved in the current movie model.
    I’m really curious to see what happens when audiences get so burned out on sequels that they stop spending money-that’s honestly the only way we’re getting out of this franchise mess.
