It’s such a fucking wonderful feeling to be surprised at this late stage of my life , and in this cold and shallow age we are suffering through …. Never heard of these guys! What a fantastic, fantastic band! This 56 year old American professional musician, just found his new favorite band!
If it is a shallow age then that is fine, we don't drown. The Undertones were supposed to do a concert once in my home town but it was cancelled at the last minute as the drummer broke his arm and they were replaced by Bagatelle. A load of Athlone lads were none to happy and wrecked the town.
Hi tim, This isn't the undertones at their most lively say. There's some fantastic early clips of them worth checking out from 1978 on Sadly fergal became somewhat of a recluse after his 3 album solo deal. He can be found on y9utube as he works with the river trust in England. The undertones continue to tour with another singer
Saw them in Sept. 1979 open for the Clash in St. Paul. Only now looking back 40+ years later realizing how lucky I was to see them in their prime. Never got their due in the States.
I think "It's Gonna Happen" is very strong as well. It may not sound as good as those you listed because the mix isn't great on that one, The other instruments drown out the trumpet and baritone sax. And I suspect that it's a really hard song to sing, not out of his range, but the phrasing on the studio recording is so "tight" that I suspect that Sharkey recorded it on two tracks. Good or bad, this recording is most likely taken from the mixing board which can be a good thing, but it can also fail to capture the excitement of a song like "It's Gonna Happen". I'm biased; that and Julie Ocean are far and away my favorites. Cheers from Boston area, USA.
I agree. I grew up in socialist Yugoslavia, POSITIVE TOUCH was a big record for me. We had a pretty decent records in stores, Stranglers, Ian Dury, Specials, Buzzcocks...i liked them then, still love that shit
Undertones were simply brilliant, the number of great (short) songs is something to behold...and its all over in under 40 minutes.I love this concert. Imagine being there 🤯 Thanks
They'll always be remembered by this Canadian guy as one of the top pop bands ever. Every single was magic and the albums were godlike from beginning to end.
Completely agree that it's such a shame that they didn't release official live recordings. This video really takes me back to my teens when I would pinch my older brother's All Wrapped Up album and play it repeatedly. I cannot think of any record that they did that I didn't like.....not even one.
Legendary Alabama Halle in München. Saw so many wonderful concerts there. Every Monday it was broadcasted in a show called "LIve aus dem Alabama". This concert sure is from that broadcast, too. BMW demolished the hall in the late 1980s/early 1990s to expand its factory.
Ah.... Such fond memories.... I must have been one of about 10 people in Indiana who knew about The Undertones.... Such a complete shame.... One of the most underrated bands of all time.
They had fun by the looks of it Every video they did was packed with humour Looks like they influenced a few start ups in the 80s One mob from Hull in Yorkshire The name I can't remember Took a leaf from their book Amazing how a few young lads not following any kind of image or style Did their thing, be interesting to see how they did it.
I understand every bands sound has to evolve. For me, by the 3rd. album the frenetic vibe was gone. Perhaps understandably. Fair play to the boyz…To this day the early work remains treasured.
Audience - When are you fkers gonna play Jimmy Jimmy? Band - Get fked we're sophisticated now! Good but I preferred 1980 Undertones where Feargal was all energy and the songs were more raw and innocent. It looked like he'd had enough by this point.

Keep Up lol!!😎

The most underrated band of them all. So good!
Saw them in Sept. 1979 open for the Clash in St. Paul. Only now looking back 40+ years later realizing how lucky I was to see them in their prime. Never got their due in the States.
The Undertones were an incredible band and their evolvement musically over 4 albums was amazing. Different era, different class.
19:34 Fergal takes a tumble, but like the true professional he keeps singing on HIS back! Legend.
Happens all the time
Its going to happen
I think he did that every show.
What a great band. They had an amazing evolution from their first album (punk) to their second (pop). Both are brilliant. Feargal has a unique voice.
Wonderful versions of When Saturday comes / Julie Ocean and Tearproof
Love Julie Ocean song!

Brilliant. They were a marvel, weren't they?
Perfect gig with nothing but perfect songs. Brilliant!

A fabulous singer and a great band !!! One of the best i ever seen!!!
I agree. I grew up in socialist Yugoslavia, POSITIVE TOUCH was a big record for me. We had a pretty decent records in stores, Stranglers, Ian Dury, Specials, Buzzcocks...i liked them then, still love that shit
Thanks so much for this. I've just spent forty minutes reliving my carefree youth. What a fucking tremendous, joyous, uplifting racket they made!!
Thank you.

better than I expected
!!
"You're Welcome" is absolute class.
They'll always be remembered by this Canadian guy as one of the top pop bands ever. Every single was magic and the albums were godlike from beginning to end.
Hard to believe they never released any live concert DVDs in their prime!!!
Brilliant concert.
Spot on mate, they should have then and still should now.
@@doinacrancher8412 Same with The Rezillos..nothing.

@@thomasgray5406 Always on the lookout for "unofficial" DVD concerts, concerts that were on other countries tv like this one.
We were only just getting used to video recorders back then!
Feargal's voice is brilliant.
From Punk to New wave! Still wonderful...
Saw them twice in Bournemouth late 70s......Totally and utterly brilliant live band.
Thanks for posting I'm a huge Undertones fan!!!!
Super to watch that , great songs and Feargal had a great distinctive voice
Duke Albert Thank you so much for uploading this. They were f*cking brilliant weren't they? Only 20 likes!!?? How quickly people forget.
Brillante!! impecables, sin duda una de mis bandas favoritas.
32:21 teenage kicks 🤘
I might even like the song before that even more! 🤯

its gonna happen, HAPPEN till the end of time!!
such a brilliant band!!
Crazy gig,awesome people,undertones very superb
Saw them at Lafayette club,Wolverhampton in 1979...absolutely brilliant!
Never seen any video footage of them. They're so young!
Wish I'd been there, but alas, I was just gone 7 years old. Legends particularly John O'neill.
Fabulous memories and tunes. Can still see the dress curtain slowly rising at the start of the H'smith show after they'd kicked off.
Love this! Thanks for posting!
When Saturday Comes is awesome!
Pretty good sounding performance!
YOU'RE WELCOME is amazing
Wow blessyou
Ah....
Such fond memories....
I must have been one of about 10 people in Indiana who knew about The Undertones....
Such a complete shame....
One of the most underrated bands of all time.
I’m probably one of like 3 Alaskans that know of them 😂
Teenage Kicks. On John Peel's gravestone. Man broke 'em and loved them.
Thanks for this. Great quality for being nearly 40 years old.
Love Wednesday week love get over you.
Great recording
THANK YOU!!!
Fantastic. Great to see. Thank you for uploading.
if they were starting out today they'd be making millions.. Brilliant.
heh I wish good musicians made millions
They had fun by the looks of it
Every video they did was packed with humour
Looks like they influenced a few start ups in the 80s
One mob from Hull in Yorkshire
The name I can't remember
Took a leaf from their book
Amazing how a few young lads not following any kind of image or style
Did their thing, be interesting to see how they did it.
29:57 was hilarious 😂👌
saw them that year tiffanys glasgow, don't remember the date, orange juice and tv21 support acts.
Brilliant. Great to see David Baddiel on guitar.
Jello Biafra sounds like an evil twin of Feargal Sharkey
32:24 just the one kick for tonight
I saw them in summer of 1980 at the Punch & Judy Theater in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
They played more straight ahead rock than this.
Por cual razón el vocalista dejo la banda?
Tearproof is superb. Those lyrics are not quite as innocent as there earlier tunes.
I understand every bands sound has to evolve. For me, by the 3rd. album the frenetic vibe was gone. Perhaps understandably. Fair play to the boyz…To this day the early work remains treasured.
Need a bigger riser.
The drummer looks like Larry Mullen Jr of U2.
Munich? Schwabinger Bräu?
Where did punk rock go? This is way too nice to be the real The Undertones.
Iron Curtain Days.

Joachim Löw is a punk rocker
