Awesome. I saw Rainbow at the Suffolk Forum on Long Island in 1977. Still have my ticket stub. I couldn't hear for a couple of days, but it was worth it. LOL
1:46 "Kill the King" 8:10 "Mistreated" Blackmore thrills us with his virtuosity...and we check our watches...Richie, play a song....sigh.... 21:20 "Sixteenth Century Greensleeves" 27:36 "Catch the Rainbow" 45:52 "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" 53:39 "Man on the Silver Mountain"...no wait...Blackmore has to go off on yet another tangent. 56:02 Richie ACTUALLY begins to play, "Man on the Silver Mountain". 1:04:37 Ronnie launches, "Lady Starstruck" to everyone's surprise, including Richie Blackmore who was about to read, "Oh, For a Voice Like Thunder", by William Blake while seated in the Comfy Chair having a spot of tea. 1:08:11 "Man on the Silver Mountain" returns to the set list now happily married with two lovely children and has vowed to quit drinking. 1:10:04 We've apparently been transported to an Emerson, Lake & Palmer gig. 1:13:53 Rainbow returns to the stage to play "Still I'm Sad". 1:20:00 Something resembling early Tangerine Dream has come over the lads. 1:24:14 Cozy Powell reminds us of the impact Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa had on drumming. 1:26:34 What Metal gig would be complete without the William Tell Overture? 1:30:06 Apparently we're not done with "Still I'm Sad". 1:38:07 Riche Blackmore tunes his Stratocaster to the delight of men, women and boys and girls of all ages. This is what it's all about, folks! Blackmore plays a solo wherein he's also screwing with Tarus Bass Pedels and a LOT of tape delay. I mean A LOT of tape delay. 1:40:09 "Do You Close Your Eyes" 1:48:06...Ronnie James Dio packs his personal belongings and leaves to join Black Sabbath even as Richie Blackmore procedes to destroy a perfectly good Fender Stratocaster. Then Judy Garland sings "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".
@@christheghostwriter Blackmore: Never has one guitarist managed to squeeze so few songs into so much time. no "Stargazer", No "Tarot Woman", no "Smoke On The Water"...ruins a decent Strat.
One of the best Rainbow lineups - the late great RJD & CP, with David Stone, Bob Daisley and the greatest lead guitarist of rock 'n roll, Mr. Richie Blackmore. Followed Blackmore from the days of DP (1968+), Rainbow & Blackmore's Night. An incredible catalog of diverse musical directions!!!❤
Love this.. I had the pleasure of seeing this line up myself in the UK (BEST Rainbow line up in my humble view) How terrific to hear that humming Hammond giving such depth and resonance to the sound? RJD- sublime.
Привет из Белоруссии! С этого альбома я узнал о Дио ! Он просто лучший! Как и Ричи! Я вырос на их музыке,Мистритэд- моя любимая песня,всем мира и добра,божьей ласки и светлого пути! Рок жив!!!
No Sir! Best line-up of 🌈Rainbow was from the best Album of all Time: On Stage. Blackmore, Dio and Powell completed with Tony Carey and Jimmy Bain. Sometimes Tony played the hammond better than Jon Lord, although this was impossible.😇God bless all of them!🙏
Wow, a lesson in how a rock band is supposed to catch the audience and sound? Blackmore also seemed to be in a good mood. And Dio, he knew how to sing and charm the audience. Todays rock bands doesn't even come close ... so for those ... just watch and learn.
I’m reading Bob Daisley’s autobiography at the moment and I’m on the chapter where Blackmore was arrested in Austria at the show right before this one. This show was held up and started late, waiting for Ritchie and Bob’s bass tech to be released from jail. 😮
I had the pleasure of seeing Dio/Rainbow 4 times, including their first tour with the Elf band. They were excellent, but once they added Cozy Powell, it was a whole different band! What a great band this was. Are they in the R&R HOF...of course not.
Diving direct from prison in austria to munich, the show starts late this evening in 1977... Richtie still had his stagecloth on, just checking his health, everything was okay and than the hammershow started, vs an bursting kill the king, protometal/ heavy rock. All 5 kicking some butt, strong rythm, astoni Keyboards, sharp guitar, amazing vocals. Blackers using an tape delay, phaser, also distorted sound, vs the taurus bass pedal. Great sound, great concert, great musicians.
I saw this tour in 78 at the Saint Paul Civic Center. Believe it or not, the two warm up bands were Cheap Tricks second US tour, followed by Pat Travers before Rainbow. At the time, had no idea who Dio was, but Blackmore, it was his birthday the night we seen them. He opened up with Somewhere Over the Rainbow on his guitar, threw it up in the air and never came down. I was 13, what a blessing to be at that show. And it only was 8 bucks for a ticket, I took 5 people. Thank you Scott for this amazing video and bringing me back in time. I turn 60 in 5 days. This is my present.
Doesn't anyone ever question why Ritchie Shuts down the soundboard(blows it up)?. Most see it as smashing the guitar, but even then, I never hear mention of that--All I know is all stage clowns did not get Ritchie's guitar frequency recordings this particular evening, and many others as well--10/31/2024
Really a shame that this isn't the video from the On Stage gig released on LP. This show, Richie had just been released from jail for fighting and wasn't a happy camper hence, changing the arrangements. Still a great show....but.
This October '77 Rainbow concert is MY runner up after the FANTASTIC Led Zeppelin concert at Madison Square Garden in July '73. Purple at California Jam in April '74 comes in at number three. The 1973 Zeppelin U.S. tour & set list simply cannot be surpassed by anyone. Not even Zeppelin themselves. Led Zeppelin 1969 - 73 were THE SHIT! From 1975 Zeppelin lost their superiority to Rainbow. I don't think so...

Cozy's playing is just other worldly. Absolute piledriving. Awesome performance and line-up. Kill the King is still an absolutely kick-ass rocker.
In those days a Vocalist only had 2 monitors in front of them. So absolutely his vocal capability 💪🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What a tight band !

Blackmore "The Boss".
I heard snippets of the 1812 Overture, but not William Tell.
