I remember seeing this performance on telly in my teens and being struck by 3 things; Firstly, that John Maher was not only a fantastic drummer but possibly the coolest man on the planet. Secondly what a unique stage presence and voice Pete Shelley had (who bizarrely I always thought looked like a slightly camp version of Peter Gabriel here). But mainly I was just struck but what a great band they were, with every song they play here being an absolute corker. This is the first time I've seen this since then, so thanks for posting!
He does look very cool 😎 with the shades ! He's now a photographer of some renown ! One of the Scottish Islands , don't remember which one , but he takes beautiful atmospheric photographs of the Island ! Check them out , they are quite stunning !
I had a chance to see them with my buddy before he passed but something came up and we couldnt go. Never saw them and I will resent this for the rest of my life, I am sure my buddy feels the same.

I can still remember being so embarrassed asking for their Orgasm Addict single at a market stall in a time that seemed like everything was in black and white. If anybody asked me what a punk guitar band sounds like this is where I’d direct them.
first saw live Buzzcocks in 1979 age 14 supported by Joy Division & saw them lot's over the years always Brilliant & probably the most important punk band ever more the the Pistols were etc R.I.P Pete Shelley
I saw the buzzcocks live supported by the slits in 1978 then joy division 1979, always brilliant live, such a shame we lost Pete Shelley at such a young age. 2 years passed and still the music will a.ways live on RIP
Love how you can see Pete look up the moment Diggle misses a note at 12:56 and then they seamlessly jam their way into giving him a do-over, which he does flawlessly. No band has ever sounded better than this.
Keep searching out these fantastic live Buzzcocks gigs as if i ever needed convincing they were just the best ever! Im 70 next year and hope to see them at them playing live again soon.
People are complaining cuz our beloved Pete is gone. As wonderful as he was, he wasn't the whole band and I'm for giving em all a lil love by showing up!
I'll go as well. I love, love, love Pete but all the old punk bands are coming back. This may be our last hurrah guys; pay the other musicians a bit of respect and love. Show up.
Ah, how fine it was! Saw them once in this era, 1979-1980, again in 1991 when the Greatest Hits CD came out, and a year later for "Trade Test Transmissions." Equal parts Mersey Beat and white noise is how I described them, then. Shelly's XL-1 solo album fits in nicely too. I was delighted when my daughter enjoyed"Telephone Operator". Got your "Dad Rock" right here!
My God dude ! What are you talking about ? They can barely play their instruments but I love them ! They're known for their lyrics and being the 1st pop punk band, remember their first chance to play before the Sex pistols they turned down the oppo because they had no confidence in their musicianship !
@@jessiecruz9290if that’s barely playing your instruments then bring it on. I’m a guitarist and we don’t all have to play like Steve Vai or Yngme Malstreim
Great performance, memories of the 70's flooding back..... now 57, so I'd go back in a half heartbeat!! To be a teen again.... Dunno why, but Rick from The Young Ones (Rik Mayall) always reminded me of Pete Shelley. I've always wondered if it was intentional.
Would have been late 1989 in the first reformation with the original line up which only lasted a few months . I saw them in January 1990 and they already had ex Smiths drummer Mike Joyce .
Fuck me, how can you fuck up the solo on Pulsebeat ? Always used to laugh when watching the Stranglers cuz Hugh would always fuck up at least one solo and you were just waiting for which one it would be, most embarrassingly normally Golden Brown but don't think even Hugh could fuck up Pulsebeat
John Maher one of the best drummers ever

Maher so underrated. Who’s Peter Gabriel? Shelley leagues above mate. 😀
Johns a bloody machine. This my third time viewing this show Absolutely brilliant!Been a fan since 77.

This video changed my life.
Same here. I don't know how many 100's of times I've watched this since March 1990, when I first seen it on ITV's Nightbeat.
Eran de mis favoritos en los 80', y ahora que tengo 56 años los veo por primera vez en directo en este vídeo.
Jodida maravilla del universo.

Full coolness in how you said well hey here is a prime example of punk.
When Britpop and Madchester came along, I heard Buzzcocks' influences everywhere.

Explain the importance when the Pistols were before them 😂😂😂😂

I noticed that too and I'm glad you mentioned it.
That fuck up took him another 30 seconds to recover from, he's playing one note after that for 30 seconds 🤪
Diggle broke a string, so he had to improvise. He got a replacement guitar during the drum solo.
Come on, i love them, but they aren't exactly on the top of their game here. Their playing is not on par with their best performances.
Keep searching out these fantastic live Buzzcocks gigs as if i ever needed convincing they were just the best ever! Im 70 next year and hope to see them at them playing live again soon.
Not without Mr. Shelley

Magic mood on stage that night.
where was this gig //?
those snares hit that guitar riff right in the delicates
This is great, great stuff!
Shelley was super cool! A true ART-ist.
Insane musicianship. This is my formative music, never realised how technically adept they were back in the day and ahead of their time.. Good god.
watching it at almost 58 yrs old and every song is unreal, i think i am enjoying it more now than back then be/c their was so much music to consume.

40:25 is ever fallen in love. The best song I have ever heard. It gives me the chills. Boredom is also a good song.

Love buzzcocks great music from the eighties
Wow! This is fantastic!
BUZZCOCKS RULE!
This is the slowest tempo I have ever heard them play these songs live! 🔊
Drummer was pacing himself , for the later parts of the show.
@@FractaliteI think his monstrous drumming on "Getting Away From the Pulsebeat " took it out of him. Amazing performance
Harmony in my head.....😂😅❤
John Maher hadn't played the drums in 6 years before this tour.
1990 seems longer ago than the 80s to me. one of my favourite bands.
Lol. Same here
Strictly magnificence!

Wow!!!
Does anybody know the precise date/venue of this performance? It's not even labelled on the CD/DVD that's available.
where was this filmed and what year you just forget how good this band was

When and where was this gig? '89, '90?
Wich year please ?
Steve Diggle is consummate.
Was this around 1980?
Ice got jealous.. coz they so cool
What's the name of the song, they start playing at the beginning? It's driving me crazy!
First song is "Nothing Left" off the Love Bites album
The Buzzcocks
The FN Balls.
Pete has a slight look of a young Johnny Marr about him in this.
Year please?
When?
Details on this show? Seems well into the 80s. The band is so locked in and looking so fit.
I first saw this in 1995 on BBC so I think it must have been filmed in the early 90's
