- A new bioactive enclosure paradise for some Hawaiian Mourning Geckos. Most reptiles suffer when cohabitated but these gals cant relate; Lepidodactylus lugubris thrive in groups. They are parthenogenetic and reproduce without a mate, but feel more inclined to do so when in good company. I designed a terrarium style jar for them to get settled in but they're quickly out growing it. So today, we are making them a much larger plastic tub style setup decked out with substrate, leaf litter, wood, springtails, hardscape, uvb, and basking spot they need to thrive in their teenage years. Oh, dear goddess, I love mourning geckos. I've been trying to set up a terrarium for a couple years. Gad a real nice ferny environment set up but my isopods ate it 😱Now I'm going to use pothos and stuff hoping it'll last longer. Anyway, yeah, what everyone else said, it's treat to see this and keep on keeping!
I would loooveee to have some of these little cuties in the distant future!! They're so precious, but i don't have the time or space for them right now 🥺
keep an eye out for when they become mothers next year! These guys take up a very tiny amount of space and all homes in the country should have at least 3 mourning geckos

The jaramium being the "wrong size"... That looks to be around similar size to what cliff's reptiles suggestsr babies for same reason... Along with other videos of experienced reptile keepers on here. and you clarified in the video that it was for their young stage only... New to reptile community but really over the folk in community who crap on others like that 😵💫

Nice set up! I have six of these. Three adults in a five gallon tea dispenser that I turned into a terrarium. The babies are growing out in a gum ball machine turned terrarium. You do you and try to ignore the negative!

@@leafystreet Yes, the adults are laying. I am building them a new tank. 20 gallon that had a busted side which will soon be a paludarium. But I really loved what you built because these little ladies are escape artists. Keep up the cool builds!

It's best to keep them with a at least one other little friend.. they are actually pretty neat creatures my boyfriend had 2 juveniles when we met a little over 2yrs ago and we've got at least 20 now.. they don't need a mate/male to reproduce and they are supposed to be all female except for about 2% of all morning geckos might be male.. I know that number isn't spot on but it's a very low number.. I used to think they were called morning geckos bc they liked mornings best or something 😂.. but turns out that it mourning geckos bc they are mourning the loss of not having a mate or so they say 😁.. get yourself a few I'd say I'd be happy to share a few but I don't think we are supposed to talk about that.. not sure 🤷🏼♀️

@@nawtygi I totally understand I didn't have anything to do with them before I met my boyfriend about 2 and a half years ago.. he's got a corn snake and I use to be terrified but I'm finally getting used to her.. but like the mourning geckos are kinda weird but cool.. I am not afraid of them or anything but like if I am moving things around in the tanks and one jumps on my hand I'll scream but only bc I'm not expecting it 🤣.. but when you get them and they lay eggs and hatch finally it's like awe.. and you kinda grow a different relationship with them 💙

What is their maximum size? As tiny and fast as they are, I'm really confused as to how you keep them under control. How do you keep them from escaping you when they can run up your arms and jump around like superheroes?
these guys only get about 3 inches. Tbh, they're very tough to handle so I take them out over another container to catch them in. Although they actually calm down a lot after a few min

If you put a piece of tape before you drill through the plastic, it’ll help with the cracking and you can also use like a wood burner gun, the tip of it to melt the holes just an idea

Soooo... I have these geckos in my condo building. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE! My cats catch them and when I get a few they go to our local animal shelter; they have a reptile guy who takes them.

The jar was perfect for the youngsters ..all bio active too ..ive seen theese geckos kept in plastic boxes with kitchen towel and a piece of fake ivy :((((
I can testify theese little ladies will and do escape from convential tanks ...I moved mine from a big jar to a brand name ...the tank was fine for a crestie etc ..but the ventilation and cable holes need covered ..
BEWARE of the lips on the top of the lids ..they will hide and bask in the space and are easily hurt or worse !!! and doors

I used the zilla jungle mix as substrate for my leopard geckos but I don't know if it's very good for them. Is there a different substrate I should use or it the jungle mix good?
That's a great substrate for them. Just don't soak it. You could also mix the jungle mix in with some play sand for a better texture.

I personally think that you’re giving a more than adequate enclosure for these geckos, I see people who keep colonies of adult geckos in what you call their juvenile setup or even the baby enclosure.
yea I dont mind sommmeee. the big thing for me is struggling to provide a hot spot and UVB in some of those setups. the adults in jars bothers me for sure
78 still seems a bit hot too be comfortable if I've done my math correctly.
they like a range of mid 70sF up into the low 80s. Their range is really broad, but this locale is from Hawaii so climate data is a good place to start
I want to get day geckos so bad, but I'm worried they will reproduce too much and ill end up with hella geckos. Does that even happen?
no not that I'm aware of. I don't have personal experience but I'm 95% sure they need to be paired with a male to really get things going

You don't. They can get preggy by themselves if they wanted too. You can however collect the eggs after they're laid and dispose of them.
